I heard that only when you die of thoughts can you be born in the Dharma body. It is not easy to look at the words to death. Anyway, Brother Wan and I have the problem of being too active, just thinking too much.
"Take me as a person, I first came to live in the meditation hall for a few years, but I felt it was not very good for a few years, but I worked hard and could not say that I didn't work hard. During those years, I was also working hard and not being able to be effective. Look at the time I left the meditation hall later. That was before liberation. After liberation, I lived in the meditation hall for a few years, but the years were different. There were too many things, and I just told them that I didn't have time to take care of myself. If I work hard, I would interrupt it. I can't say that I have made progress and can't be maintained. If I can keep it, I will lose my foundation. In short, I have talked more and do less. Although I was like that, I was in the meditation hall for a few years. I have also called the influence of this over the past few years. If I have worked hard, I won't chant who it is. I will use other kung fu."
This mage is already in his eighties. With such a healthy life today, what he says is almost honest. Moreover, his experience can be written as a historical history of modern Zen, which is worth our careful savoring.
"Oh, it's okay to use it normally. When you encounter some states, it won't work. You still need to chant the Buddha's name. So I often say: Sorry, who is this state of chanting Buddha? Once you have illnesses and sufferings, you have to use it. No other method can do it. It's still unavoidable to chant the name of the Bodhisattva every time. Because you haven't put in effort and don't recite it frequently, it's not that the Bodhisattva is not effective, but that your mind is not effective. But those who have used some skills will be useful when they encounter states. You say that it's not very useful, but that it's useful when they should be used.
Once I can’t change it again. This time, when I get rid of the disease, I must use this skill, but after I get rid of it, I have to do it again, chant this and that. This is clever and high, and I am busy with delusions. When I encounter a certain state, I have to chant the Buddha’s name again, and I don’t have anything else, so I always feel that it is really not a disadvantage for people to chant this Buddha’s name. But we ordinary people always have too many delusions, and the words of chanting the Buddha’s name are not merit, and there is no such thing as the sutra. If we do, we don’t believe it and don’t want it. But it’s not OK to not use it at that time. If we don’t give it up, we won’t get any benefit.”
When the scar is healed, it forgets the pain, and does not recite the Buddha's name until the illness is urgent. It is also a common human nature. The so-called Lao Shen is actually an ordinary person. What he says is ordinary, and the life he understands is not separated from the word "normal".
"You just use our ten years of isolation. Whose virtue is said to be the virtue of chanting Buddha's name? It is truly virtuous. When you have no worries, it is easy to say it. This skill, that skill, and that skill, when the state reaches its peak, it will be difficult for you to work hard. A few people around you all day long, forcing you to explain this and that nonsense, either yell or scold. After they left, someone secretly looked at you in the small window. Look at the state of mind. Think about what mantra to use, but nothing can be recited. This trouble comes to mind. Ordinary troubles are different from this trouble. They are real troubles. Then I don't know when I will look for you. That trouble is really troublesome. Sometimes I want to open it. Although that doesn't work, I know that troubles are gone if I let go. Your thought of working hard is forced, so how can I resist it?"
We have all heard of that history, or seen it in books. But this is the first time I have heard of a monk recalling that history.
"So there is really no way, so you should use the Buddha's name to recite. Just look at who the Buddha's name is. No matter whether it is suspicious or not, will this suspicion caused by intention still work? If you grasp whoever is chanting Buddha's name, you will follow it! Alas! No matter how much trouble you are or how sad you are, whoever is chanting Buddha's name will follow it for a while, and your mind will be calm immediately. That is really affliction, Bodhi! Only then can you realize that afflictions are Bodhi. Once you have skill, when you mention your skill, the afflictions and delusions will turn around and turn into kung fu. This is called Bodhi. It is not the time of afflictions, Bodhi is wisdom, and awareness. It seems that whoever chants the Buddha's name is really useful."
I have read some information before, saying that you must hold a chore to death by meditation. If you have the heart, you will die in the heart of this chore. This is a stupid way to hold on to the rope and not let go, and then it will eventually work.
"Then the skill I used in isolation is really a day and night trouble. After more than five months, I can't get the skill I used in that state, because I let it go at that time, and I won't let it go anyway. If I lock the door a day, it is an evil gate, not a good gate. Someone is watching you and causing trouble for you all day long, then you can't let it go. So you have to believe in "Who is reciting Buddha's name" and don't think it's clever. You have to be the one who has just started to have a mind, whether you recite or ginseng or pursue it, you must protect it. When you ginseng it, you don't have to work hard. As long as you take care of it, you will come. No matter how you raise it in your heart, it will not hurt your energy, and it will not hurt your energy, and it will be useful. If you dare to use your strength, you can let go of your hands and use force."
When I was at home in Beijing, I occasionally learned to try to chant the Buddha's name by Yanzi, but I was chanting the Six-Syllable Mantra at that time, and I still remember it when I was meditating. When people came, they forgot the mantra. It can be seen that the method of chanting mantras by myself would not be used at the critical moment and would not work.
"In our daily work, we are all about doing things. At that time, we have no time to do things. Therefore, those who have just started to work hard, we must always work hard on this thought. Don't listen to people saying that it is different from your state. For me, working hard is like this, so I will try my best to make "Who is reciting the Buddha's name" for several years. Although I have not used it seriously for many years, it is not difficult to mention it at any time. Sometimes I don't mention it or use it. When I have a state, I still want it and nothing can resist it. If I put other thoughts in my heart, you say that the thought is fast, and my heart will get angry; if I am slow, I can't resist this delusion and trouble, it is not easy. You say that it is easy to rely on this thought. Look at who is still useful."
What he said is plain, but real experience is useful.
"We first learned to study hard with Master Zhenkong in Beijing, and we were before our parents were born. Then I would not participate before our parents were born. The old master also agreed. As long as you work hard, I saw how I was my true face before my thoughts were born, which was my personal solution. The old master also agreed. I don't necessarily mention my parents, because when I mentioned my parents, there were some things that seemed to be a little different in my heart. Because my parents did not approve of our becoming a monk and escaped, so I didn't mention my parents. I told the old master: I felt a little different in my heart when my parents mentioned my parents. I was turned by it. How do you think I worked hard? I 'see how I was my true face before my thoughts arose'." The old master said: Yes, it's enough to use it like this."
It seems that as long as he can control his mind, no matter what kind of talk it is, he can be used as a rope. He mentioned the Vacuum Mage for the first time, but it flashed by.
"But when I arrived at Gaomin Temple, Mr. Lai did not agree. He said: Now, only who is able to recite the Buddha's name is effective. Then I will study who is chanting the Buddha's name. Who is chanting the Buddha's name is the most suitable for today's people. Why should we study the Buddha's name? Mr. Lai said: Because many people today chant the Buddha's name, they all know that the Buddha is the highest in the ten Dharma realms. But I don't know what the mind that can recite the Buddha's name is, who is chanting the Buddha's name, where does this thought come from and where will it be destroyed. I don't understand, I must study the topic of "who is chanting the Buddha's name" to be chanted."
Both masters make sense, probably because they are not good at people, but they have their own aspects.
"So you have to find who is chanting Buddha's name, and who is chanting Buddha's name. It took a lot of power to turn around. People who have never used it don't know. Don't look at this word, this word should be put into your heart. Its nature is different. For example, who is chanting Buddha's name is different from who is chanting Buddha's name before your parents are born. What is my original face before your parents are born? I have a lot of drowsiness when I first chant. Who is chanting Buddha's name has more delusions and fewer drowsiness when you first chant. Because the original face is the basic sound, the downward sound, so there is more drowsiness and less delusions. Who is the upper sound? How can this person who doesn't care about it know?"
This specific experience is really a trick. The sound of sinking and rising can even affect drowsiness, which has never been heard of before.
"This has to be tried by yourself. If you meditate the word "Who" is said, it will be less drowsy and will not be easily drowsy. It is an upper pronunciation, but the mind moves with thoughts. So if anyone meditates the Buddha's name, it will be less drowsy because it is an upward pronunciation. Then try your best to change it and change it before your parents were born. Then, after meditating for a few years, who is it? Who is it? It is really good. I often say: Don't look at the 'who is chanting Buddha', it is really useful, and people who have never used it will not know."
Then, he mentioned that Xu Lao, who we are most interested in.
"Later, when I arrived at Mr. Xu, the old monk said: It is not easy to have doubts like this. I think it is because I read it more often. Just look at the word "who". The word "who" is still said to those who have just started to have aspirations. In fact, the word "who" is still rough. Later, the old monk taught us that the word "who" means it is used, not this person. However, the word "who" has been used for a while in the seventh grade. It is also beneficial. That advantage is the benefit of carefulness. But when you encounter a state of mind, who, who, who, who, can't beat it. Because this
The realm is rough and violent. If you slow down, who can't use it. If you can't use it, the quiet kung fu cannot resist it. If you have this big storm, will you be able to slowly? You say that you can have this concentration normally, but if you have the realm, I will be able to keep it up. But if you don't have this power, you say that you can use the word "subtle or subtle" to raise it. Unless you have a combination of kung fu and use unintentional kung fu, there is no matter whether the realm is not."
I guess Mr. Xu made a judgment and suspicion based on the progress of his disciples. I heard that it is very important, but I don’t quite understand what it is.
"If you say that when you encounter a certain state of mind, when you mention the words, whoever is thicker, how can you feel suspicious? Whoever is a person who is working hard. Therefore, those who are working hard must follow the old method, use it for three or five years, ten or eight years later, and follow the old method of Xu to see whoever character. The person's character is temporary and convenient. If you use it for a long time, you won't want it. Follow the person's character, you must go down in detail, so that you can reach the depth."
Sure enough, there is a difference between the first-time and the old-time.
"The same is true for Lao Lao's kung fu. If you really use it over and over again, who will chant the Buddha's name so earnestly, after you have used it for a long time, who will chant the Buddha's name. It will suck down with its rough delusion, and after a breath, it will be the same as Lao Xu's kung fu. Many people don't use this skill. Just after making a fuss for a while, they say: Oh! You don't work hard, you are chanting the verbal. He doesn't use that careful skill, he doesn't use that time.
After resting the carelessness, you should breathe abruptly. Don’t talk about the true breath, you can see the careful skill. This careful skill is doubt, that is, it is just like Mr. Xu. Look at this martial arts person, he is right at the same time. The same is true for the heart skill. You can use who is familiar with the Buddha’s name, and you can use it anyway, one word or two, with words or without words. You must make a sincere heart when you first make a name."
This is clear. Laying the foundation and enlightenment are different educational methods at different stages.
"If you want to start from this topic, and start with who is chanting Buddha's name, there is no other cleverness. As long as you are eager to live and die, you must seize this idea at all times, regardless of walking, standing, sitting, lying down, and eating, dressing. If you can keep in these places, then you will be able to sit down and keep your work. So when we lived in Gaomin Temple, the old master often told us: You should rest, don't urinate immediately, and practice kung fu. When you get up, "Who is chanting Buddha's name?" When you get up, you should stop calming and sit still. After sitting down, even if you put your hands down, don't move it, and don't move your neck. Just sit like a wooden stake, just pay attention to "Who is chanting Buddha', and you will be mindful. Because you have a little activity, look east and look west, your mind will disperse long ago. If you put it away, you will not have great power."
It turns out that this is what I can't understand. Walking, standing, sitting, lying down are all Tao, and eating, silence and silence are all Zen. In fact, it is very practical and specific, not a big truth. I think that listening to the old monk's words, I get more real knowledge than reading ten books.
"This thought is not easy to earn it. You have to use it. From a basic point of view, you must always be aware of it. If you don't know it, you will be sad after all, and your heart will be angry. Then how do you mention it? It is easy to get into problems. After using it, you can do whatever you want. The same is true for chanting Buddha's name. You see, you can recite it anyway. You can read it when you are familiar with it. You have the first intention, your mouth hurts when you recite it for a while, and your mind will get angry when you recite it for a while, so you don't have the skill to work hard. First, you have to be eager to live and die. I want to end your life and death. The sect is the gate of life and death that specializes in doing this thing, and always take this topic seriously. Only when you use it for a while will you know that you will have doubts. Seeing this doubt in your own kung fu, you say that what you learned from outside is not done by your own kung fu, but what you learned cannot change your doubts. It is still one sentence. In short, you must be willing to use it, and practice can make perfect."
Optical knowledge is useless, and sometimes stupid methods are the main road.
"Writing is the same. Look at people who can write, and people who have kung fu can move whatever they want, and they write beautifully. People who do not have kung fu have been writing for many years that are not good-looking, and they have also spent a lot of effort. Because they are not familiar with each other, they are not skillful, and they are the same. To develop a long-term mind, I know that this method can truly make us die and die. This method is true. In the past, from Buddha to ancestors, all the ancestors of all generations have succeeded in this method. So can we still not do it? We are Buddhist disciples, so should we not do it.
Believe in the Buddha's words, we will go straight, no matter whether it is effective or not, it will last for two years, two years, ten years, and thirty years, and another life will be possible if it is not in this life. If it is not in this life, one life will not be in a lifetime, if it is not in a lifetime, the Buddha level will be expected. Master Weishan said: "If you do not retreat in three lives, you will be enlightened and will be able to conquer life and death." Therefore, we must develop a long-term mind and will always be home. My skill does not require others, but only myself, and keep it all the time."
Going into dead ends until you are through. Finding ways everywhere, looking for a path, but sometimes you are actually circling and making no progress.
"People who have just started to have aspirations cannot talk about any doubts or skills. They always have the ability to be careful. Don't think about cleverness. You can't even get enough cleverness. You have to do cleverness by yourself. Just turn over and over the chanting of Buddha's name. Don't forget about it at all times. If you forget, raise it up. If you raise it heavily, I will lighten it. If you raise it too quickly, I will slow it down. If you slack off, I will improve it a little. If you use it skillfully. Always keep it, not hurt your energy, not hurt your body, and be calm. With this topic, this is called hard work."
Moduo thought, just do it.
"What is life and death? This life and death are both rough and detailed. It is said that this is the gate of life and death, so when is life and death? When do you start to meditate on the Buddha's name? You have already started life and death, because when our mind is not calm, it either thinks about this or that. Every thought is life and death. Although we cannot feel the consequences at the moment, this is a seed of life and death, which is the cause of life and death caused by this uncertain thought. So today we must have the intention to meditate life and death, believe in this method of the sect, and the convenient method left by the ancestors, so we will meditate the koan. Let's meditate on a sentence, this thought is this thought, this thought, and this thought, "Who is chanting Buddha's name", then we will not chant anything else, and the greed, anger and ignorance will not be generated."
In a sense, his blind trust is a bit like superstition. But he has a good fortune and has met three saints, so of course he is qualified to be superstitious.
"If you think about "Who is reciting the Buddha's name", you will have no greed, anger, and ignorance every time. There is no greed, anger, and ignorance. If you have less thoughts, you will have less seeds of life and death, because "Who is reciting the Buddha's name", although it is also a delusion, its delusion cannot be affected by life and death. Because there is no poison in it, it is different from greed, anger, and ignorance.
