975 Actor's Dream

In the work "Old Nowhere to Belong", the Coen brothers pushed their stylization to the extreme. The vast and grand mirror, sharp and straightforward editing, strange and wonderful atmosphere, and unexpected black humor, can be said to be a comprehensive production. The whole movie has almost no soundtrack, but instead amplifies the empty background in the west. The sound of gunshots, wheels, breezes, and footsteps creates a kind of depressing, dull but terrifying and fearful psychological projection, which is amazing. Tianlai Novel | 2

Although the Coen brothers have produced many highly praised works, why is "Old Nowhere to Belong" called the pinnacle? It is not because this work won the Oscar-best film Little Golden Man, which made people realize the excellence of this work, but should be reversed. The excellence and outstanding brilliance of this work, and the Little Golden Man Trophy is just one of the footnotes.

"Old and nowhere to be supported" caused an uproar among the judges of the college, but for many Chinese audiences, it seems that they cannot understand the connotation and height of the movie. The main reason is that the Coen brothers have a strong western style, which is a unique American culture. What they are best at is digging out the vast loneliness, loneliness and narrow sins of the western region. This unique temperament is something that others cannot imitate and is also something that many people cannot understand.

The reason why "old has no place to rely on" is called a classic is not because of its distinctive style as "From Bloody", but because the whole movie reveals a kind of despair and a deep despair towards human nature.

In modern society, the warmth and kindness of human nature seem to be disappearing. Greedy desires, cold indifference, vague morality silently stifles all hopes. This is similar to Lance's criminal trilogy, but the Coen brothers are more cruel than Lance. Whenever the audience has a beautiful illusion, they will directly stifle this hope, lifting their hands and falling, killing them decisively, and the loss and confusion are hidden in the movie.

In the casual and idle shots, they even reveal their ambiguous attitude towards the government, the system, and even the justice, and the carnival of breaking free from the bonds vaguely revealing the wanton and unruly of the demons dancing in the era of ungovernment. All of this is perfectly consistent with the title of the movie, "old has no place to rely on", the disappointment of giving up resistance, the boring casualness, and the cold and bone-blooded despair make the whole movie come into contact with a gray temperament.

At this point, "Old Nowhere to Belong" is one step closer than the crime trilogy. The Coen brothers penetrated their bones of resistance and disappointment towards the government, and even satirized it. This is something that Lance had not been able to dig.

The three main characters in "Old and Nowhere to Belong" represent three different groups, conveying their position and situation in society.

Hunter, he is the follower of social laws, but he wanders on the edge of breaking taboos and knows how to use some loopholes to seek benefits for himself. He always has some greed for small gains in his heart. Maybe he occasionally makes some minor mistakes, but he has never really broken the shackles of the law and is always a law-abiding citizen. Therefore, when he found the corpse of a gang fight and the Hai Luoyin worth up to two million US dollars, greed gained the upper hand. He took away the poison, but later he could not bear the torture of his conscience and chose to go back to save people, but he handled it too clumsy to cause trouble. If he insisted on the indifferent choice that he ignored at the beginning, then perhaps there would be no bad experiences later; but he was unwilling to rely on the burden of the system and chose to deal with it with difficulty alone.

This is a common situation in society. I have resisted but finally gave up. But I still have a hint of kindness, sticking to the glory of human nature, and staggering forward. However, many times, even they themselves do not know what they are sticking to, and how long they can persist for. The last glory of human nature is getting weaker and weaker.

The killer, he is a rebel who wanders outside the law, despises all the constraints of the rules and challenges the bottom line of all the rules. He has no soul. There is a detailed description of him dealing with his own wounds in the movie. It can be seen that he has no mercy even for himself. He has no concept of law, government, or morality. He just acts with his own ability, just like God, easily determines the life and death of others, regardless of chain reactions, and does not worry about subsequent influences, and destroys all "normal" social relations.

This is another common situation in society. Social destroyers, who either achieve their goals for the sake of interests, selfishness, or without reason, do not care even if the world collapses. But ironically, in order to maintain superficial stability, society even needs to respect them, so that they collude and cover the sky with one hand. Under the calmness of the surface, they have begun to rot. This rebel who destroys order but masters a higher order is causing the entire society to fall apart.

Police/Police, he is the abandoner of social laws. He once tried to follow the constraints of the laws and become the guardian of justice, but the cruel reality repeatedly hit his efforts. Time and again, society changes too quickly, and the decline of human nature and the decline of laws made him sigh that human hearts are not old. With his own power alone, he cannot shake the entire society. The feeling of powerlessness that loses control made him depressed and finally chose to give up. It is difficult to say clearly whether he abandoned the laws or the laws abandoned him.

This is another common situation in society. Social abandoners miss the beautiful era of not closing their doors on the eve of decades and not picking up their leave of absences. However, reality has severely hit their enthusiasm and eliminated all hopes. So they gradually became numb and watched coldly.

If Lance's Crime Trilogy explores the "social process" and gradually presents the process of hope being extinguished, then "old has no place to rely on" discusses the "social status quo". The despair that penetrates deep into the bone marrow is gradually penetrated, making people shudder, and there is no possibility of any change.

At the end of the movie, the three characters left in different ways, allowing the sin to disappear without realizing it. This came to an abrupt ending, and the so-called ending really defeated people's residual fantasy of justice, and the collapse of faith was full of powerlessness. What's even more terrifying is that is the future of society? Everyone began to give up slowly, admit their mediocrity, accept the darkness of society, hide in the corner alone, and spend their rest of life quietly, but they found that they were already alone and had nowhere to rely on.

It is no exaggeration to say that "old and have no place to rely on" brings the feeling of powerlessness and confusion in the real society to the extreme. Unlike the criminal trilogy, they have no discussion of the problem, no attempt to find a solution, and even no intention of criticism. They just calmly and indifferently state a fact: this society is dead.

From this point of view, "Old Nothing to Belongs" is indeed better than Lance's crime trilogy, because Lance's crime trilogy is relatively limited, telling a certain aspect of society, which shows the big picture from the small; while "Old Nothing to Belongs" intercepts three different groups representing different levels of society, puts it in a special criminal case, and digs deeper.

For Lance, playing "Old Nowhere to Belong" will undoubtedly be a special experience, not only because he will simply work with the Coen brothers as an actor, and during the filming process, both parties' understanding of the movie and interpretation of the characters will inevitably spark, which will also have a driving effect on Lance's directorial perspective; but also because the character of Killer is full of challenges, it is much more difficult than Jeff who is "hard fruit candy".

Lance chose to play Jeff himself because this role inspired Lance and her desire for performance was completely released. So what about the killer Anton? If he were to play Anton, how would he perform? Compared to Javier Baden in the previous life, could he make a breakthrough?

This was really an interesting thing, and Lance couldn't help but start to describe it in detail in his mind.

This is a contradictory character. He has almost no expression and is completely paralyzed, but at the same time, he is filled with strong tension. It can be said that the tension of the whole movie comes from Anton. When people first saw him, a kind of crazy chaos and madness burst out from the expressionless zombie face. This thriller temperament almost freezes everyone's breathing. This powerful aura crushed by the soul has become the most important footnote of the whole movie.

Lance showed that he had too many thoughts in his mind, complicated and chaotic, which meant that his performance would be very rich. Even if he had no expression on his face, the aura revealed by his eyes and actions would affect people's impressions. But as Lance discussed with the Coen brothers last night, Anton should be a God character above humanity. He had no unnecessary thoughts in his mind, only single-line decisiveness. The coldness brought by this paranoia can often bring condescending nature, which looks real, but feels illusory, creating a kind of alienation that is free from reality.

This is a paradox, isn't it?

An actor's mind cannot be blank. He must think about the lines, the position, the camera, and the performance. Even if he enters a state of selflessness, his mind cannot be completely cleared; but this performance requires that this kind of obsession that eliminates messy obsessions, besides killing or killing. In addition to performing tasks, he seems to be a robot, which is performed completely according to programming. These behaviors can lead to death. These behaviors can be missed a code-the object is not good people, bad people, men and women, but behaviors that meet the standards and behaviors that violate the standards.

Only when such a powerful aura truly bursts out from the inside out can the character be fully interpreted.
