297 Demonstration in person
There are many ways to teach performance. One of them is to personally go on stage, show the performance, posture and essence, and then let students understand it. △ Many directors are also keen on using this method during the directing process, telling the actors the most directly and effectively the specific effect they want, and then the actors present it according to their own understanding.
The advantages and disadvantages of this method are very obvious. The advantage is that you can clearly tell the actors their own requirements. As long as the actors follow the example, they can meet the shooting requirements; the disadvantage is that they restrict the actors' self-development space and also limit the actors' understanding of the script.
As for Lance personally, he doesn't like this method very much, because his consistent experience tells him that the reason why actors are unique is that each actor has his own way of understanding the role, script, and performance. Therefore, different actors can burst into different sparks when playing the same role, and different actors and the same director can also produce different chemical reactions.
However, now Tom is clearly facing a bottleneck, and Lance has to try a different approach.
Tom folded his hands on his chest and looked at Lance's back towards the taxi in surprise. "Borrowing a knife to kill" has been filming for five days. Lance showed his deep understanding of acting skills, and after he was involved in the performance, he showed sufficient skill. His solid basic skills and outstanding understanding were impressive. But objectively speaking, the previous scenes were not difficult, and the actors in the entire crew did not encounter much challenge, so Tom was still skeptical about Lance's performance strength.
It is not easy to believe in an unknown actor who jumps out of an inexplicable corner.
Now, Lance actually wants to demonstrate? Tom thinks this is a very interesting thing, because Vincent and Max are two completely different characters. The ability to excel in Max's role does not mean that he can digest Vincent's role. As for the previous explanations - it is one thing to say, but another thing to do.
Lance sat in the taxi and waved to Hayden who was standing behind the trailer. Hayden was already watching the situation here with Percy, Albert nervously, and saw Lance's gesture. He ran over quickly. Lance whispered to Hayden, and Hayden walked behind the camera, picked up the light controller, and began to fine-tune the light.
Lance took a deep breath, closed his eyes and began to calm his thoughts.
If the method-subject performance is adopted at this time, Lance needs to completely enter Vincent's world and carefully recall the establishment of the entire role. Obviously, time is not enough, and Lance has been building Max's life recently. Suddenly, he will be replaced with another role, which will inevitably disrupt his performance rhythm - the method-subject acting requires time to prepare and brew, and it is definitely not that easy; but at this time, Lance is preparing to present it in a performance style, mainly to present Tom with a performance context and express emotions and connotations accurately. This is not a difficult task for Lance.
In the movie "Becoming Julia", the dialogue between the protagonists once depicted a scene: the heroine Julia performed in a state of grief on the stage. She burst into tears and almost suffocated. The realistic performance was amazing. Julia took advantage of the gap in her position to walk to the edge of the side stage, and then her eyes were still flashing with tears. She turned her head to scold the stage staff, "What is that damn light!" After the reprimanding, Julia turned her head and entered a state of sadness and despair again. She continued the performance, but the audience did not feel any difference at all.
This is the performance acting skills.
In the orthodox academic performance classes in the UK, they always emphasize that performance is a state, and actors can enter or leave this state at all times. They can also interpret countless different roles in the same way. An actor must play hundreds or thousands of roles in his life, which is called an actor. For example, the method-based acting skills, they cannot survive without being crazy, and they cannot extricate themselves after entering the role, and even cause mental breakdown. In the eyes of the British academics, they cannot be called an actor - because they only play one or several roles alive.
Although Lance cannot reach the level of being the protagonist in "Becoming Julia", the performances that can be easily performed are not difficult, and this is the basic skill of going deep into the blood. It is like a sudden audition in Paramount's office.
Tom saw Lance open his eyes and raised his hand to make an "ok" gesture. He thought he was talking to him, but when he looked back, he saw Hayden standing up with the script in his hand. He then turned his head and then saw Lance's state change little by little - the whole process seemed very long, but everything seemed to happen in the blink of an eye.
Lance's head tilted slightly to the right, his jaw raised slightly, and his face was hidden in a very delicate position. Two-thirds of his face hid in the darker part. Only one-third of his cheeks came out from behind the backrest of the passenger seat. Even his left eye could only see half of it. The whole face didn't seem to have too many expressions, but the changes in light and shadow make people feel that his thoughts were quietly surging.
The eyebrows on the left frowned slightly, forming a beautiful curve, like the continuous mountains in ink paintings. The impatient mood spread like a dragonfly. Then he leaned on the back of the chair and sat forward slightly. His face slowly moved away from the shadows, revealing two-thirds of it. The light like flowing water flowed on the handsome face, and the irritability hidden between the eyebrows was like ripples, hiding under the water slowly dizzy.
What's even more amazing is that after taking off his glasses, Lance's face was not covered at all, and his handsome facial features were fully revealed, but at this time Tom did not have the heart to pay attention to this, and all his vision was attracted by the half-covered eyes, and his breathing stopped quietly.
It is hard to imagine that just a show can outline so many vivid performance details. More importantly, even if there is no line, the performance rhythm slows down unknowingly, as if every action has been magnified.
"Okay, listen." Lance said calmly, his thin lips opened and closed, and his low voice seemed to float quietly from the shadow on the right, like a ghost, "You originally decided to take me to other places, but..." Lance's voice paused slightly, his eyes drooped down, and the hazy light penetrated the eyelashes like wings, hiding the thoughts in his eyes, but a trace of leakage was revealed in an instant.
Impatient and decisive, like a blade hidden behind me, paused for less than a millisecond, and then Lance continued, "The fat boy walked to the window and performed his diving at a high altitude. We are now going to start planning." There was no emotion in the plain words, but it slowed down the rhythm of speech a little, but created an atmosphere that gradually became tense. The cold-blooded and ruthless understatement was chilling.
Lance moved forward a little further, and his brow leaned slightly in the middle, "Are you still breathing?" The voice rose gently, with a hint of exploration.
Unfortunately, Lance did not get a response. His eyebrows were raised gently, and the emotions under his eyes began to slowly surge. Then the eyes drooped again, covering all emotions. He pursed his lips and curled the corners of his lips. The curve of his smile inexplicably revealed a little sarcasm, which seemed clear under the light. "Now, we must do our best, adapt to the fittest, survive the fittest, Darwin, bad things happen all the time, Yijing." The fragmented words seemed compact and powerful, one phrase after another jumped out in a strange rhythm, as if the dagger penetrated the burlap bag, and the sharp blade appeared bit by bit. Then, his eyes raised again, looking at the driver's seat in front of him, and the voice suddenly became lighter, "No matter what, let it go!"
"Yi Jing? What are you talking about! You threw a person out of the window!" Hayden's slightly stiff voice came from behind.
Lance pulled down the corner of his mouth, and the impatience in his eyes flashed again, which was particularly conspicuous against the hazy halo, which was shocking, "I didn't do this, he fell down by himself." The simple words seemed rigid and firm.
"Then what did he do to you?"
"What?" Lance's voice rose gently and stopped abruptly, but it was like a dagger, short and sharp.
"What did he do to you?"
"No, I'm seeing him for the first time tonight." Lance frowned impatiently, as if he didn't want to continue to get involved in this problem, and then leaned back to the back of the chair. This time, the whole face slowly submerged in the shadow, as if it was a submarine gradually disappeared from the water.
"You first saw him and then you killed him?"
A faint sneer came from the shadows, and Lance's expression could not be seen clearly in his eyes. He could only hear a hint of mockery in his contemptuous voice, "What? Can I only kill those I know?"
The unreasonable counterattack made Hayden stunned, and he just said "No", and then Lance lowered his head - not only did not raise his head, but instead lowered his head, and all his expressions became even more difficult to see clearly, "Max, there are six billion people on the earth. If a fat man dies, you will be in chaos?" The light words were as heavy as a pound and had an irrefutable force.
"Then...who is he?"
"What do you do?" Lance raised his head again, and his hard words showed fierceness for the first time. An impatient emotion burst out between the collision of teeth. "Have you heard of Rwanda?" Lance sat up straight and rushed out of the shadow like a cheetah. The extremely suppressed emotions broke free from all the constraints in an instant and suddenly expanded to the extreme in his pupils.
The heart stopped beating in an instant.
