Chapter 1923 [Buddhist famous sayings (3)]

18, happy

One hundred and twenty-four, those who do not indulge in debauchery, do not be greedy for the enjoyment of the senses, and those who are passionate and often contemplate the truth can obtain great happiness.

One hundred and twenty-five, life can be happy only if you don’t have any hatred among the resentful crowd.

One hundred and twenty-six, there are two extremes that practitioners should not do. What are these two extremes? The pleasure of "greed for the senses" is low-level, vulgar, vulgar, vulgar, and vulgar, and it leads to physical and mental damage; "self-torture" is painful and despicable, and it will also cause harm to the body and mind. However, the "middle way" discovered by the perfect saint avoids the above two extremes, and brings you keen insight and knowledge, guiding you to a state of peace, wisdom, enlightenment and eternal happiness.

One hundred and twenty-seven, those who maintain good moral character in their old age are happy, and those who have strong faith are happy. Those who have wisdom are happy, and those who do not do evil are happy.

19, Happiness

One hundred and twenty-eight, happiness lies in the realization of wishes, and only noble wishes exist.

One hundred and twenty-nine, trust yourself, who can rely on you besides yourself?

One hundred and thirty, man is the master of his own destiny.

One hundred and thirty-one, health is the best interest; satisfaction is the best wealth. Trustworthy friends are the best relatives; no worries is the greatest happiness.

One hundred and thirty-two, a person's thoughts are extremely subtle and difficult to detect, but smart people are good at protecting their thoughts that are about to move. A guarded heart can lead to happiness.

One hundred and thirty-three, ah! Without all greed and worries, our lives can be happy, just like the gods of the Light and Sound Heaven feed on joy.

One hundred and thirty-four, generously give alms, behave in a timely manner, help relatives without shame - this is the greatest happiness.

One hundred and thirty-five, respecting parents, loving their wives, and having a stable career is great happiness.

20, Wisdom

One hundred and thirty-six, understanding of divine and eternal things can be appropriately called "wisdom", and understanding of worldly things is nothing more than "knowledge".

One hundred and thirty-seven, the formation of every thing in the universe has its own reasons. The perfect saint not only explains the cause of generation, but also explains the elimination of every thing.

One hundred and thirty-eight, not knowing the truth of distress, the cause of distress, the state of eliminating distress and the method of eliminating distress - is called "ignorance".

One hundred and thirty-nine, there are three forms of training in mind: the first is training of noble morality, the second is training of superb thinking, and the third is training of advanced comprehension.

One hundred and forty, let your old age live as innocent and romantic as your childhood, and let your childhood live as calm and steady as your old age. This means: don’t mix arrogance in your wisdom, and don’t make your humility lack the element of wisdom.

One hundred and forty-one, wisdom is produced from meditation, and great wisdom cannot be produced without meditation.

One hundred and forty-two. If a person lives for a hundred years without real wisdom and cannot be self-regarded, it would be better to live for only one day and have the skill of wisdom and tranquility.

21, Tolerance

One hundred and forty-three, if someone says bad things about you, you don’t need to be malicious, resentful, contemptuous or dissatisfied with them.

One hundred and forty-four, if you have resentment, it will not only hinder the development of your mind, but also make it impossible for you to judge whether the statement is right or wrong.

One hundred and forty-five, at the same time, if someone wears a high hat on me and praises my teachings and monks too much, you should not be too proud, because this will also damage your inner (mind) development. You should accept the facts and show them the actual situation.

One hundred and forty-six, Padmasambhava still emits a pleasant fragrance in the abandoned waste and sludge, just like a Buddhist disciple born in a crowd of people with strong desire for love. It can exude the light of wisdom.

One hundred and forty-seven, not from today, it has been said in ancient times that people who are silent are slandered; those who speak too many will be slandered; those who speak too few will also be slandered; there is no one in the world who is not slandered.

22, contentment

One hundred and forty-eight, don't expect improper achievements.

One hundred and forty-nine, health is the best gift, contentment is the greatest wealth, and confidence is the best morality.

One hundred and fifty, live a life of coarse clothes and simple food. Control yours and reduce your needs. In this moderate life without worries, you will be able to find satisfaction.

One hundred and fifty-one, even if there is a golden rain in the sky, it still cannot satisfy the senses. There is no happiness at all, only pain.

One hundred and fifty-two, people always give alms according to their own faith and preferences. They are jealous of other people's diet and everything, and they do not get peace during the day and at night.

23, Health

One hundred and fifty-three: Greed, hatred and ignorance are the three major elements of disease.

One hundred and fifty-four, there are two types of diseases, what about the two? Body diseases and mind diseases. Some people seem to be able to not get sick for a year, two years, or even one hundred years or more years, but in this world, there are too few people who can not get sick for a moment except for the saints whose minds are free from dirt.

One hundred and fifty-five, those who are emotionally unstable, cannot be trusted and do not treat their friends well will have a significant reduction in their health.

One hundred and fifty-six, a good man is not greedy for anything. He only talks about noble things, but does not pursue love and enjoyment. No matter whether he encounters happiness or pain, the wise man is always too proud or sad.

One hundred and fifty-seven, a smart person, whether happy or painful, will not over-express his feelings.

One hundred and fifty-eight, the wise should clear away the dirt of their own soul, abandon the enjoyment of their senses, and make the heart free of worries.

One hundred and fifty-nine. If there is no wound on your hands, you can use your hands to hold poisonous things, and toxins will not invade the wounded hands. By the same token, people who have not done bad things will not be punished.

One hundred and six, those who are energetic, think frequently, behave purely, distinguish right from wrong, restrain themselves, live according to the truth, and those who are alert but not negligent will definitely be healthier.

One hundred and sixty-one, prevention is better than treatment.

One hundred and sixty-two. Doctors must first determine the condition before prescribing or treating the medicine.

24, House

One hundred and sixty-three, the fields are deserted because of weeds, and people are harmed by greed; giving things to those who do not have greed will bring fruitful rewards.

One hundred and sixty-four, there are three types of donations: the first is alms on property, the second is donations of truth, and the third is to eliminate the fear of sentient beings.

One hundred and sixty-five. When a noble person gives alms, he does not have any intention or purpose in his heart. The merits produced by such donations that do not seek retribution are difficult to measure.

One hundred and sixty-six, not the real me. Because if it were me, the body would be free and not sick.

One hundred and sixty-seven, when the belief in selflessness is deeply embedded in a person's heart (when a person deeply believes in the truth of selflessness), he can thus reach a state of tranquility, calmness and more calmness.

25, Friendship

One hundred and sixty-eight, sincere friendship, excellent taste.

One hundred and sixty-nine. If you don’t find a better or equal partner than yourself when traveling, it’s better to walk alone and not be with fools.

One hundred and seven, the flattery of a friend will corrupt a person's character. By the same token, the insult of the enemy can sometimes correct your mistakes.

One hundred and seventy-one, you should know that the following four types of people are true friends: first, helping and supporting your friends; second, friends who share the joys and sorrows; third, friends who can benefit you; fourth, friends who are caring.

One hundred and seventy-two, those who are tolerant and patient will receive friends, property, reputation and long-lasting happiness.

26, Wealth

One hundred and seventy-three, the stupid man said, "I have a son, I have property." This is troubled. Because he himself does not really belong to him, let alone his son or property?

One hundred and seventy-four, owning a lot of property, a lot of gold and food, but only greeting for your own luxury enjoyment - is a major factor leading to depravity.

One hundred and seventy-five, wealth will destroy stupid people, but it cannot destroy people who want to eliminate troubles; when a stupid person longs for wealth, he not only harms himself, but also harms others.

One hundred and seventy-six, family members should divide their property into four parts: one for daily use, two for savings or alms. The other for emergency backup.

One hundred and seventy-seven, a person should use money reasonably and proportional to his income. He should not be wasted nor stingy. He should not be greedy for wealth or squander the luxury.

27, Confidence

One hundred and seventy-eight, faith is the foundation of wisdom. It can produce good virtues.

One hundred and seventy-nine, people who are uneasy in their hearts, do not understand good teachings, and whose beliefs are shaken, cannot achieve perfect wisdom.

One hundred and eight, smart people are not shaken by praise or slander, just as hard rocks are not shaken by the wind.

28, Relieve

One hundred and eighty-one, eliminating selfishness can cure pain.

One hundred and eighty-two, this is the way to achieve freedom and liberation - help others without greed for fame, wealth and retribution, without the intention of hurting others, and doing things based on reason.

One hundred and eighty-three, just like a palm tree being uprooted, it will never grow again; when a person's behavior (including thoughts and words) is not greedy, hatred and ignorance, he will no longer be tortured by birth, old age, illness, death, or torture in the future.

One hundred and eighty-four, ways that can lead to tranquility and wisdom:

A legitimate understanding

Legitimate thinking

Right words

Legitimate behavior

A legitimate career

Legitimate efforts

A legitimate thought

Justice meditation

One hundred and eighty-five, meditation is not born in people who lack wisdom, and wisdom is not born in people who do not have meditation. At the same time, meditation and wisdom are approaching the state of no worries.

29, diligence

One hundred and eighty-six, from today on, a man should work hard to improve his mind, because we never know when to die.

One hundred and eighty-seven, not reciting is the dirt for reading the scriptures; not diligence is the dirt for housekeeping; laziness is the dirt for skin; debauchery is the dirt for inspiring the mind.

One hundred and eighty-eight, those who work hard, work diligently, and are not afraid of danger will be rewarded.

One hundred and eighty-nine, stupid and ignorant people are unscrupulous and unrestrained; but smart people keep working hard and regard diligence as the supreme treasure.

One hundred and ninety, you are your protector and your dependant. So you must control yourself well, just like a horse merchant who controls a good horse.

One hundred and ninety-one, you should work hard to do good, because the perfect saint can only tell you the path you should take.

One hundred and ninety-two, even as perfect as this view without burden, if you are greedy for it, you do not understand it. All teachings are like a raft, used to cross rivers, not for people to grasp. (To be continued...)
