The first thousand nine hundred and twenty-two chapters [Buddhist famous sayings (2)]

8. Obstacles

Forty-five, every crime will harm the perpetrator itself much more than the victim.

Forty-six, don’t underestimate small evils, thinking that I will not be retribution. The water bottle is filled with small drops of water. A stupid person keeps doing small bad things. Over time, his whole person will be filled with evil.

Forty-seven, there are five obstacles to spiritual perception: greed, hatred, sleep and drowsiness, anxiety and worries, doubts.

&nb~~~msp;Forty-eight, when the sinful acts have not yet matured (and have not yet produced results), the stupid man regards the sinful acts as sweet. But when his behaviors have matured, he feels sad.

Forty-nine, those who have no faith, are unfaithful, love to lie, and do not consider the afterlife will likely commit all kinds of evil behaviors.

Fifty, before evil deeds mature, people who do evil always think they are doing everything perfectly, but when evil deeds mature, people who do evil deeds will taste bad consequences.

Fifty-one, killing, stealing, lying and adultery, smart people will never appreciate these four evil things.

Fifty-two, lying is the root of sin. It causes a person to live in a bad state, and his mouth smells bad. His words are not liked by others and are despised by others.

Fifty-three, all sentient beings desire happiness. Those who kill sentient beings with a murderous rod in order to obtain their own happiness will not be at peace in the future.

Fifty-four, imperfection is the dirt of women, and stinginess is the dirt of alms. All bad words and deeds and thoughts become the dirt of this life and in the future.

Fifty-five, greed, hatred and ignorance are the three major dirts of the psychology. Killing, theft, and adultery are the three major dirts of the body. Provoking discord (playing right and wrong) swearing, lying, and sweet words are the four major dirts of the language.

Fifty-six. When a person does evil, his mind will be dirty. When a person does not do evil, his heart will be pure. Purity and dirt are completely in yourself, and others will not be able to help.

9. Sorrow

Fifty-seven, those who are obsessed with themselves will be disturbed. Those who only consider themselves everywhere will bring sorrow to themselves.

Fifty-eight, those who are not greedy for anything will have no distress. So I say that in this state there is no sorrow, no intense, and no disappointment.

Fifty-nine, if you love a hundred things, you will have one hundred troubles. If you love a hundred things, you will have ninety, ten, five, and two things, you will have ninety, ten, and five.

Sixty, the world is constantly changing, not for a long time.

Sixty-one, anything will be destroyed in life.

Sixty-two, birth, old age, illness, death, sadness and disappointment, being with people you don’t like, never satisfied, these attributes of existence are all suffering!

Sixty-three, aging and death drive away the lives of all beings, just like a shepherd driving herd to the pasture with a stick in his hand.

Sixty-four, change and impermanence are the characteristics of life.

Sixty-five, impermanence is a kind of (very subtle) suffering. Anything that is not eternal will eventually cause deterioration, change, and disappearance. Therefore, only those with keen senses can perceive its imperfection.

Sixty-six, even when a person has happiness, this happiness still cannot last forever.

Sixty-seven, ‘All conditions are impermanent.’ When a person observes this truth with wisdom, he begins to be disgusted with all kinds of distress, which is the way to reach purity.

Sixty-eight, if you can truly understand the truth of suffering, you will be able to know the source of suffering, without the state of suffering and the way to eliminate suffering.

10, treat others

Sixty-nine, treat others with warmth and elegant manners. As long as you are filled with joy every day, your distress will disappear without a trace.

Seventy, emotions are produced by past fate and present life's love, just as lotus is born from two things: water and soil.

Seventy-one, if you build happiness on the pain of others in order to pursue happiness, you will be troubled by resentment and cannot get rid of resentment.

Seventy-two, treat everyone equally, regardless of their wealth or wealth.

Seventy-three, visiting patients should make them full of hope and happiness.

Seventy-four, people love those who are loyal to the truth, have good attitudes, are trustworthy in their words, and are responsible for their positions.

Seventy-five, the husband should treat his wife in the following five ways: first, praise the other person's strengths. Second, never underestimate the other person. Third, be loyal to her. Fourth, grant the right to bury housework. Fifth, often give her exquisite clothes.

Seventy-six, a wife should treat her husband in the following five ways: First, handle housework in an orderly manner. Second, help her husband’s relatives. Third, be loyal to her husband. Fourth, manage and save her husband’s salary and income smartly. Fifth, be diligent but not lazy.

Seventy-seven, there are four principles to serve the society: generous gifts; considerate speech; mutual cooperation; behaviors are in line with the season and polite. These four principles are like the axle of a car, which can turn the wheels.

Seventy-eight, people who serve society are prone to getting along with others, are willing to help others, understand the needs of others, and teach others generously and patiently. Such a kind person will definitely receive good rewards in the future.

Seventy-nine, you must be patient, loving, and enthusiastic in service.

11, state of mind

Eighty, when a person's words and behaviors are motivated by good intentions, happiness follows him like a shadow.

Eighty-one, all realms are guided by the mind. The mind is the master, and all realms are caused by the mind. If a person speaks and acts in a dirty heart, then the distress will immediately follow him, just like a wheel following the foot of a cow.

Eighty-two, if you come into contact with worldly things, you will not be tempted, have no sorrow, have no flaws, and have a stable heart. How happy it is!

Eighty-three, smart people often remove dirt from their hearts, just like craftsmen cleaning up impurities in silver mines.

Eighty-four, prevent the anger of your heart, control your mind and be distracted, abandon evil thoughts, and sincerely follow the right path.

Eighty-five, disciples of Gautama (Sakyamuni's surname): You must awaken well, and always miss the perfect saint, Buddha, whether it is day or night.

12. Do good

Eighty-six, do good deeds in time to avoid bad thoughts in your heart. Anyone who does good deeds will not be easily inseparable from evil things in his heart.

Eighty-seven, life is inevitable to die. You should do more good deeds during your lifetime, just like making many wreaths from a pile of flowers.

Eighty-eight, don’t underestimate small goodness, thinking that I will not be retribution. Small drops of water keep falling down. Finally, they can fill the entire bottle, so smart people gradually accumulate small goodness, which makes them full of blessings.

Eighty-nine, tolerate it in an impatient crowd, gentle it in a violent crowd, and generous it in a greedy crowd.

Ninety, do not do any bad things, cultivate all good deeds, and purify one's thoughts. This is the teaching of the Buddha.

13, implement

Ninety-one, it is fruitless to say only good things without practice. This is like a beautiful flower, with only color but no fragrance.

Ninety-two, although not many readings and reciting the holy scriptures, but following the teachings, eliminating greed, hatred and ignorance, having the right wisdom, having no worries in the heart, and not greed for this life and the next life, is the practitioner of inspiring the mind.

Ninety-three, teach others that you should set an example first. Only by restraining yourself can you restrain others. It is really difficult to restrain yourself!

Ninety-four, do not speak crudely and evil words, do not harm all sentient beings, implement the precepts according to the Buddha's warnings, and eat in a moderate manner. Live in a quiet place and concentrate on noble awareness. This is the Buddha's teaching.

Ninety-five, a foolish person gaining knowledge and reputation will not only harm his happiness, but also make him stubborn and self-righteous.

Ninety-six: It is better to just hear one useful sentence and bring peace to people if you read a thousand words without any use.

Ninety-seven, bright and beautiful flowers without fragrance cannot bring much happiness to the person you wear; it is not very beneficial to hear good words but not practice them.

14, save

Ninety-eight, you should not criticize others’ faults or criticize what others have done or not. You should always reflect on your own faults and consider what you have done or not.

Ninety-nine, the wise man reviews his own words and deeds every day.

One hundred, conquering millions of powerful troops on the battlefield is far better than defeating yourself. Those who defeat yourself are the greatest conquerors.

One hundred and two, it is easy to detect other people's faults, but it is difficult to detect one's faults. It is as easy to spread other people's faults as if they were abandoned. However, hiding one's shortcomings is as cunning as a gambler hiding dices.

One Hundred and Three, recognize your own weaknesses and strive to improve.

One hundred and four, if a person changes his past and starts to do good deeds, it is like the bright moon not being shrouded by dark clouds and can illuminate the earth.

One Hundred and Five, you should have the courage to admit your fault to others!

One Hundred and Six, Repentance includes correcting one’s mistakes!

15. Words and deeds

One hundred and seven, bad results are caused by one's own behavior, just like the rust that will be corroded by rust.

One hundred and eight, behavior makes people have different differences between lowly and noble. Translator's note: The so-called "behavior" here includes three types: thought, speech, and body movements.

One hundred and nine, good behavior can help people to be born to a better place in the future, and bring them closer to freedom and liberation.

One hundred and ten, those who have good moral character and superb knowledge, live according to the teachings revealed by the perfect saint, and understand the truth, and those who are serious and responsible will always be loved by everyone.

One hundred and twelve. When a person speaks, he should avoid criticizing others with sarcastic words.

One hundred and thirteen, if you speak in a proper manner, your conversation is gentle and your words are reasonable, then your words will be wonderful and beautiful.

One hundred and fourteen, don’t say bad things about others behind their backs.

16. Learn

One hundred and fifteen, those who do not study are like old beefs, although they have a lot of meat, they have no wisdom.

One hundred and sixteen, always be close to wise people, wise people, knowledgeable people, loyal and enthusiastic people, responsible people, and saints - always interact with these wise and virtuous people.

One hundred and seventeen, sleepy, love to chat, not interested in what you have learned, lazy and impatient doing things, impatience and impatience are major factors that lead to degeneration.

One hundred and eighteen, if you don’t study hard in time, you will be lazy when you are young and strong, and you will have no goals or ideas in life. Slack people will never discover the path to wisdom.

17, Education

One hundred and nineteen. Before explaining, teachers should first study students’ psychological tendencies.

One hundred and twenty, education should cooperate with the teachings’ aptitude and appropriate time!

One hundred and twenty-one, a man should use earnest and compassionate words.

One hundred and twenty-two, a good teacher should speak in a pertinent manner and avoid talking about irrelevant things.

One hundred and twenty-three, of all gifts, the broadcast of truth is the most precious. Among all tastes, the taste of truth is the best. Among all joys, the joy of truth is the greatest. If you remove greed, you can conquer all suffering. (To be continued...)
