Chapter 359 Arish(1/2)

Roger's team walked all the way to the Mediterranean coast.

Then they walked along the avenue, towards the southwest.

Roger looked at the "road" under his feet. This was actually just a dirt road trampled out by the business travelers.

The area where the road is located is the boundary between the desert and the ocean, with extremely flat terrain. You can see that the road extends to the southwest to the end of the sight line and disappears on the horizon.

It seems that you can run along this road to the horizon, rush out of the earth, and walk into space.

However, Roger knew that what he saw when he was riding on the horse was actually only a distance of about 5 to 6 kilometers.

Roger withdrew his gaze from afar.

He looked at the two sides of the road, with a little green vegetation, mostly low plants, and occasionally one or two date palm trees.

A little further away, there are rolling yellow sand dunes to the south and the blue sea to the north.

Although the waves in the sea are constantly rising and falling, the sand dunes that should be still seem to be fluctuating constantly under the sun, and even the "water surface" is reflecting.

Roger licked his dry lips, and he knew that there was almost no wind now, so the dunes were actually motionless.

What fluctuates there is only the heat wave caused by uneven air density on the ground after the surface is heated.

There is no water there at all, but the light is refracted in the heat wave, giving people the illusion of reflection on the water surface.

Roger and his party were moving on this road. After walking for two days, the scenery on both sides of the road seemed to have not changed at all.

There are still yellow sand dunes to the south, the blue sea to the north, and there is still a thin middle, which seems to be coordinated by these two colors, sparse green, and a dirt road connecting the horizon.

Roger even thought that he had just walked on the spot for two days.

However, the sun told him that he had turned from facing southwest to facing west without realizing it.

Then there were three days, a constant, boring march.

Roger felt that he had solidified in a painting, and he even had an illusion that he had not moved forward at all and was always standing still, so he could never get out of this painting.

Until he saw a large piece of date palm.

The vast grove of date palms suddenly appeared in front of him as if it had emerged from the ground.

Roger felt that when this date palm forest appeared on the horizon, he should have seen them.

However, his eyes were already numb to see the monotonous scenery.

So it was not until this date palm forest occupied half of the width of the horizon in his field of view that he suddenly discovered it.

This situation does not seem to be unique to him, as does the soldiers accompanying him.

Roger heard the soldiers start to cheer, as excited as sailors wandering on the sea to see the island.

The accompanying merchant shouted: "That is Arish, the capital of Sinai."

As he approached, Roger saw a winding river, reflecting rippling waves in the sun shining west.

The water in the Arishi River is very clear, almost transparent, and flows slowly. You can clearly see the flat and shallow bottom of the river. If it weren't for reflection, it would be possible for people to ignore its existence.

On both sides of the river are large exposed riverbeds, with yellow sand and stones as white as the surrounding soil.

On the other side of the river, there is a simple castle, roughly quadrilateral.

The castle has a circle of walls formed by date palm trunks side by side and formed into the ground. A two-story stone house is slightly northeastern.

The Egyptian three-crescent moon flag floated on the roof.

Outside the castle, a little further west, there is a square building with white exterior walls painted close to its cylindrical minaret, demonstrating its mosque’s identity.

In addition, there are chaotic houses scattered on the land outside the castle in disorder.

A simple town with few residents and few garrisons.

Roger rode "Gift II" across the shallow Arishi River.

On the stone roof of the castle, there were enemy soldiers shouting loudly to call the police.

Soon, behind the not-high wooden wall, an archer leaned out half of his body.

Roger looked carefully and found that the archers had no armor, were wearing yellow cloth robes, only equipped with bows and arrows and short swords. They should be some archers and archers gathered from the lower class people.

The soldiers who were alarming on the stone roof were equipped with short-handled battle axe and small round shield, as well as extremely simple leather armor, without helmets.

The man's half-bare forehead was like a bare stone on the river beach, reflecting a soft white light in the sun shining west.

This level of defense is simply a side dish for Roger, who has experienced several battles.

Roger narrowed his eyes and looked at the height of the sun, and estimated that there were more than two hours before sunset.

He sent a knight to the castle gate with a white flag to persuade him to surrender.

But the stupid enemy seemed to believe too much in his simple wall and actually refused.

So Roger decided to conquer the castle before dark.

After his order, soldiers went to the date palm forest to cut down thick trunks to make bumps.

The light cavalry scattered and surrounded the entire castle, although it only had a "concave"-shaped doorway to the south.

Roger ordered that the mosques and local people were not allowed to be robbed. He sent his personal guards to guard the entrance of the mosque to prevent greedy soldiers from ignoring his orders.

Soon, the bump into the wood was carried over.

This may be the simplest siege tool, which is a straight and large tree trunk with sharpened tips at the top. Four ropes are evenly tied from front to back on the trunk, and the two ends of the rope are arranged on both sides.

Henk sounded the horn of the attack at Roger's warning.

The eight Turkic people got off the horse, pulled the rope with one hand, raised the bumping wood together, and then held the shield with the other hand, slowly walked towards the enemy's gate.

The rest of the archers stepped forward to cover.

They teamed up dozens of people, and after approaching the range of enemy archers, they turned into a hollow circle formation, and all the men and horses ran quickly in circles.

Half of the hollow circle entered the enemy's range, while the other half was outside the range.

The archers ran to the top of the circle close to the enemy, shot out the bow and arrow, then ran over the top and returned in a circle.

One by one, they kept shooting arrows one after another.

Roger found that these arrows were shooting farther than the normal range of the archers, perhaps because they received the horse speed bonus.

The enemy archers on the city wall also shot arrows at the archers.

But perhaps because they were dazzled by the continuous running of the archers, the arrows they shot were always unable to accurately find the target and could only pierce on the ground in vain.

On the contrary, because enemy archers simply stand firmly behind the wall;

Roger estimated that behind such a simple wall, there might be only a small piece of wooden board for people to stand, and there was not much room for movement;

This led to enemy archers becoming clear targets for archers.

Several enemy archers screamed and disappeared from the wall.

The rest were also curled up and squatted down to avoid bows and arrows, which also made them unable to shoot arrows normally.

So more archers drove their horses forward, approached the city wall, and shot arrows at the wall at a closer distance.

Now the enemy didn't even dare to fight back, and was completely suppressed by the archers and cavalry under Roger.

The Turkic people carrying the bumping wood walked safely to the door at the bottom of the "concave" shape.

Roger heard someone roaring violently in the wall with his sensitive ears, and he guessed that it was probably the enemy's commander.

So on the three walls at the "concave"-shaped door, archers stood up and shot arrows.

The three-sided attack caused some trouble to the soldiers carrying the bumping wood.

A Turkic soldier couldn't resist it, and was shot by a feather arrow and stabbed his body without armor protection. He screamed and fell down.

But more screams came from the archers who took the risk of standing up.

No one had time to shoot the second arrow, and they disappeared behind the wall in the continuous rain of arrows of the archers.

After that, although the commander in the wall was still roaring desperately, no archer dared to show his head.

A candidate Turkic man ran and rushed forward, took over the dead, and took the rope.

He hit the wood and arrived at the door.

The eight Turkic people worked together to swing the rope, and then they were thrown up like swinging the wood.

It carried huge kinetic energy and hit the door made of wooden boards one after another.

With the sound of "dongdong", the entire gatehouse was shaking, and the dust accumulated in various gaps was shaken into the air, like a layer of gauze, wrapping the door area.

Then black smoke rose there.

The enemy ignited the linen soaked in tincture and threw it off the door.

The two Turkic people who were leading the way screamed and ran out of the flames at the door.

They fell to the ground and rolled, trying to destroy the flames on their bodies.

The reserve Turks hurriedly ran up to help.

Some people used a wet cloth to beat their companions on the ground, while others took over the companions, took the rope, and continued to swing and hit the wood to smash the door.
