Chapter 1 The Late Owl
It is August 27, 1991, at 4:40 pm.
The hottest time of summer day has passed, and the number of pedestrians on the streets is gradually increasing. Northampton, a small town in central England between the two major cities of London and Birmingham, finally becomes more lively as dusk approaches.
The green lawns on Weedton Road are now yellow, which is caused by severe drought and insufficient water supply some time ago. After more than two months of repeated discussions, the local council finally formulated a temporary pipeline from the Severn River 30 miles away in the last week of summer to ensure water use in local residents during the drought.
Of course, even if the lawn is no longer lush, it will not affect the boys lying on it.
For example, Matthew is doing this at the moment.
Matthew Wakefield, eleven years old, has dark hair and brown eyes and a thin figure. He just graduated from a local preparatory school in Northampton a few months ago and is about to enter high school.
At this moment, he was lying on the withered lawn, looking at the sky, muttering to himself:
"I've been waiting for three days and three days, and it's already the end of August... If Hogwarts doesn't write to me, I'll have to go to Eaton!"
The breeze blew the neat hedges around, and the leaves swayed in the wind, and the boy suddenly sighed.
...
Matthew is a time traveler.
Three months ago, when he first came to this world, he thought he had just traveled thirty years ago to England in the 1990s.
But as time goes by, he discovered more and more things that were wrong-
First of all, there are frequent owls.
In just one month after the journey, he witnessed it with his own eyes three times. Different owls flew over his sight. Compared to his previous life, he had lived for twenty or thirty years, he saw wild owls more.
The most impressive one was when he was having dinner one morning, through the window, he saw a beautiful big bird with snow-white feathers and black spots, and stayed under the eaves for a while.
After he went to the local library to consult relevant information, he concluded that the big bird he witnessed was an owl called "Snowy Owl". This owl is accustomed to inhabiting frozen soil and tundra areas, and is generally more common in Siberia, Alaska and other places. In 1979, it was listed as a Class I protected animal by the Washington Convention (CITES).
In other words, in general, it was impossible for him to encounter such creatures in central England.
Then by chance, he noticed several weird men wearing cloaks.
At that time, he was on Charing Cross in London. He was buying books there and met those weird guys... a few guys in strange costumes looked sneaky and completely ignored the passers-by around him. Then, Dennis blinked and suddenly disappeared from the street.
(Note: Charing Cross is a famous bookstore street in London.)
Matthew, who was already confused, specially bought a detailed map of "Surry County".
After staying up on the map for a night, he found a place name called "Xiaohuijin District" on it and a street called "Liuveau Road".
It is impossible to find these two places on any normal British map in 1991 - because these two place names are both authors named Rowling, who made up her own creation when she wrote her work "Harry Potter".
The situation seems to be clear at a glance!
After further exploration, Matthew was surprised to find that there were some "special abilities" in him.
Very unstable, uncontrollable, but truly special abilities.
For example, when he was having a meal, a few yards apart, his eyes made a glass break himself up...
Looking at the broken glass slag, Matthew realized something-
There seems to be some unexpected gains during this time travel?
...
So since July, Matthew has been waiting patiently for letters from Hogwarts Magic Academy.
Because he firmly believed that he had traveled to the wizard world in the Harry Potter plane, and his real identity was a Muggle-born wizard.
I originally expected to rely on the advantage of time travelers to be foresighted, and to work hard in Britain for more than ten years and live a life of a latecomer.
Now that I have come to the world of wizards, I just need to go to Hogwarts Magic Academy to learn some magic and quietly master the confusion curse, forgetful curse and illusion body curse. At that time, I can return to the world of Muggle, and can I struggle for a hundred years less?
Ideals are beautiful, the future is bright, and reality is cruel.
Then there is the beginning scene.
Poor Matthew waited hard from early July until the end of August. Unfortunately, he did not receive any letters related to keywords such as wizards, Hogwarts, and magic.
At first I thought it was just an owl that was late, but later I waited for a little doubt on my life—
The things I experienced before were all illusions, and this was not a magical world at all.
The snowy owl was just a lost unlucky guy who got the wrong direction, so he flew to England from Siberia and happened to see it for himself.
And those weirdos on the Cross of Chaling are actually just a few hippies who are curious about dressing up in disguise, and are not wizards at all.
As for the blown glass, the truth is that the thermal expansion and contraction reaction caused by the heat of the weather has nothing to do with magic...
Forget it, even if it is not a wizard world, it is actually not bad.
After all, I am also a time traveler from thirty years later. Let’s continue to rely on the advantages of foresight and strive hard.
Recently, Matthew has been comforting himself and adjusting his mentality.
...
At this moment, a red postal car stopped by the road—
"Is Mr. Matthew Wakefield?" the postman who got out of the car shouted: "Here is a letter to you."
After slowly getting up from the lawn, walking to the postal car and picking up the letter, Matthew was suddenly stunned.
The envelope of this letter is made of heavy parchment paper and there are no stamps.
The address was written in emerald ink, and it was written very clearly: 226 Weyton Road, Upton District, Northampton City, collected by Mr. Matthew Wickfield, who was basking in the lawn.
"Is it really an owl late?" He flipped the envelope over incredible.
There is a wax seal on it, a shield heraldry, capital "H", and a lion, an eagle, a badger and a snake around it.
However, this long-awaited letter is much thinner than I thought.
The boy took a deep breath and tore the envelope open. Somehow unexpectedly, there was only a thin piece of paper inside with extremely short content:
“To Mr. Wakefield:
Please inform us that you have been allowed to attend Hogwarts Magic School, and the semester is scheduled to begin on September 1st.
