Chapter 1 A knife in the back

On December 15, in the 13-episode combat command center, Chu Sinan, Meletskov and a group of army staff gathered at the conference table to conduct urgent consultations on the current unfavorable situation.

Starting yesterday, the Finnish army surrounded in the middle of the Isthmus of Karelia suddenly broke the silence and launched a large-scale assault on the defensive fronts of the 13, 37 and 9th Army encircled on the southern front of the Soviet army. Among them, the 13-episode position where Chu Sinan is currently located suffered the heaviest blow.

In the previous stage of the battle, the 13th episode suffered significant losses in the process of annihilation of the entire German military advisor. The 27th Division was forced to temporarily withdraw from the battle sequence and go to the rear to rest. The 29th Division also lost a considerable number of soldiers during the rushing northwards. In this way, the main combat troops that were truly completed in the 13th episode were only two infantry divisions. From this perspective, the defense position on the southern front was definitely a weak link. The Finns obviously saw this clearly, so they put most of the offensive on this line.

This time, the intention of the Finnish cluster to open the pathway on this line was very obvious. Their artillery offensive was extremely fierce, and the cooperation in the air had never stopped. In just one day, the 33rd Division and the 29th Division suffered huge losses. However, the Finns did not take any advantage. While launching an assault on the southern line, they also had to withstand the fierce compressed offensive of the Soviet army encircled from all sides. Therefore, there must be quite a lot of casualties.

"Coax!" A shell falling from the sky exploded not far from the command center, and dust fell on the roof of a temporary wooden shed.

"I think it's decided," Chu Sinan looked up at the trembling ceiling, and then said, "Comrade Meletskov can apply to the Front Command to ask the air force to launch an air strike on the Finnish position in front of us, and then the 30th Division is the main force to launch a counter-charge against the enemy position to destroy their arrogance. As for the mobilization of the Front Army reserves, it will be temporarily slowed down. Now the battle can only be considered as the beginning. If we put the reserves too early, what else can we do to deal with the possible occurrence in the future..."

"Report!"

Before Chu Sinan could finish his words, a voice from the communications station of the command center interrupted him.

"An emergency call from the Supreme Command to Comrade Chu Sinan." The communication decryptor waved a telegram decryption sheet in his hand and said loudly.

"Take it!" Chu Sinan's heart thumped, and an ominous premonition suddenly arose in his heart.

The correspondent hurriedly ran over and handed the telegram in his hand to Chu Sinan.

"Sign up to Comrade Chu Sinan: The main force of the German northern cluster along the Baltic Sea coast broke through the northern position of our Leningrad Front in the early morning of the 15th. The vanguard of its fourth tank cluster has advanced to the front line of Shipinserburg, and speculated that its strategic attempt is to encircle your headquarters. In view of the urgent battle situation, the Command Department decided to compile the two fronts, Leningrad and Volkhov, into the Bereye Lake District Front Army, with you as the acting commander of the Front Army. I hope you can command calmly, defend the enemy on the front line of Volkhov, and crush the enemy's strategic attempt. The Supreme Command Department ordered on December 15th."

The telegram made Chu Sinan dizzy in front of him. Everything he had foreseeed finally happened. The German army had an amazing appetite. Their C-shaped iron clamp attack had probably been conceived for a long time, just to wait until the Northern Front Army completed the encirclement and then suddenly launched an offensive. In this way, the entire Northern Front Army of the Soviet army was in a situation where they could not advance or retreat, and could only wait for the encirclement and annihilation.

Damn it, isn't the intelligence that there is only an 18th Infantry Army on the front of the Leningrad Front? When did a fourth tank cluster run out? Those idiots responsible for enemy situation reconnaissance can't even find a tank cluster of such a large scale. They should be sent to the military court for trial!

Shipinseerburg, where is Shipinseerburg?

Chu Sinan had no intention of complaining anymore. He threw the telegram on the table, then turned around and ran towards the war zone area hanging on the wall behind him. Behind him, Meletskov picked up the telegram and just glanced at it, his face completely changed. He knew that Shipinserburg was located in the Hunan case of Ladoga, a transportation hub connecting Leningrad and Volkhov, and its strategic position was very important. After the German army took this place, its mechanized troops could advance to the city of Volkhov in only half a day. If it advances to the northeast, it would be possible to arrive at the Lodgeinnoyebole, the location of the Northern Front Command, in less than three days. In other words, if the Northern Front could not evacuate the Isthmus Battlefield of Karelia within three days, and at the same time, it could not withstand the advancement of the German northern cluster, then it would be just around the corner.

Meletskov used to believe that as a military member, Chu Sinan was a little too cautious in the prediction and evaluation of the battlefield, and even to put it bluntly, but it was a bit unfair. He had been repeatedly emphasizing the threat of the German army in the direction of Leningrad for a while, but now it seems that his judgment and prediction are so accurate.

Meletskov knew that it was a bit difficult for the commander to appoint Chu Sinan as the commander of the Bereyehu District Front Army at this time. Although I don’t know the situation of the battle in that direction, if I think about it, I can roughly guess some clues. If it is not expected, the Leningrad Front Army today may have been dispersed by the German tank cluster, and some of its troops are still stranded in the enemy-occupied area.

It is really hard to optimistic about how much role the Volkhov Front could play. Their main force was still in the area of the Dihewen area, so it was difficult for them to arrange a frontal defensive front before the German tank cluster advanced, and at best they could only threaten the attack on the German right-wing front. In this case, Chu Sinan served as the commander of the Bereye Lake Front, and he did not have enough troops to arrange a defensive front to resist the German advance to the northeast.

However, at this time, Meletskov probably wouldn't believe that it was the appointment of the Supreme Command at this critical moment that ultimately led to the rapid rise of this striking figure in the military history of World War II. In the offensive and defensive battle in the Bereye Lake District in the next three months, the various tactics that Chu Sinan vigorously promoted were enough to be shocking. Among them, the "Great Avalanche Tactics" that were classified as classic and the "wolf pack tactics" learned from German naval general Denitz became a model war example that the military forces of various countries vigorously studied after the war.

With a Northern siege by the Germans and an urgent telegram from the Supreme Soviet Command, Chu Sinan is finally about to embark on his military battle of honor, and a star in the history of the New World War II needs to rise urgently.
