Chapter 14 Doors and Windows
In order to shoot, the crew rented two rows of independent apartments on the front and back streets, so that they could not only be used as a shooting venue, but also serve as the residence of crew members. It has to be said that Miramax has not had a good financial situation, which has made them stingy to a certain level.
"Harvey gave an investment of 20 million US dollars, and the funds have not yet been fully in place. Apart from the crew's remuneration, the money can be used for shooting is very small. I want to spend a cent in half now!"
A dinner was being held in the restaurant where the crew's main creators lived in the apartment. Because investment was not a secret matter, David Finch sat at the dining table and complained about the tight funds.
"Twenty million dollars are indeed a little less."
Ryan echoed, and he vaguely remembered that the investment in this movie in his previous life was about 60 million or 70 million. Of course, the US dollar ten years later cannot be compared with the present.
"Even so, Harvey told me that it would be better to save the publicity expenses, God! He might as well sell me directly."
It seems that David Finch is really troubled by financial trouble. Others can't help with such things, so they can only make a good laugh.
"Nicole's bacon omelette is not ready yet? I'll go to the kitchen to check it out." Ryan remembered that Al had just entered the kitchen. Although this guy was both funny and easy-going, he was an old-fashioned playboy.
Sure enough, as soon as Ryan walked to the kitchen door, he heard Al's voice, "Nicole, your cooking skills are really good. This bacon fried egg has a unique flavor."
"Is that so? I didn't cook much, but I gradually trained because I had to take care of Ryan in recent years." Nicole's laughter also came.
"Your relationship is so good. Haven't you ever thought about finding a father for Ryan?"
"Stop kidding, Al, Ryan is just my brother."
Ryan simply walked in, first looked at Nicole who was making bacon omelettes, then looked at Al standing next to him, and said without hesitation, "Hey, Al, don't think about hitting Nicole! Otherwise I will give you a good look."
"Hey, Ryan, you are a little guy." Al widened his eyes funnyly, looking like a blind colonel among women who smelled fragrance.
"What I'm telling the truth is, Al, I know Chinese Kung Fu!" As he said that, Ryan made an inappropriate Tai Chi starting style.
Al Pacino laughed loudly, patted his head gently, and walked out of the kitchen first.
"Okay, Ryan, stop making trouble, help me take a plate out." Nicole unbuttoned her apron and handed Ryan a white porcelain disc filled with bacon fried egg.
Although the dinner was not rich, it was better because it was crowded, especially when the meal was halfway through, Harvey Weinstein, who was the producer, drove from New York. The fat man's career was barely on track now, and it was not as swelling as it was later. Coupled with his versatile nature, the atmosphere in the living room became even more lively for a while.
"It's too troublesome to deal with people from the Children's Association. They not only have to stipulate Ryan's working hours every day, but also ask the tutor's situation and study progress, and send someone to check in a few days. I'm going crazy." Harvey Weinstein sat at the dining table and complained to Nicole and Ryan.
"That's not my business." Ryan shrugged.
"It's not your business? Ryan, you can't say that. You didn't let us arrange tutors at the beginning, and you told me that I'll let the bullshit children's association go to hell."
"Have I said it? I don't remember it." Seeing Nicole's face turned a little dark, Ryan denied it without thinking.
"Uh..." Harvey Weinstein was stunned for a moment, and then said, "Well, when the children's association come, I will throw the movie script to them and let them see. Does the children who can write such scripts still need a tutor?"
"Don't worry, Harvey, it's time to find an extra to pretend to be a tutor." Ryan was completely giving a bad idea, "It's just a little bit to deal with them at my level."
"Wait!" Al Pacino suddenly waved his hand and interrupted the conversation in the field. "Script? Is this script of this movie? Ryan? Jenkins...No!"
Al looked over in surprise, his eyes staring like a copper bell, as if he had seen a Martian, "Harvey, do you mean the Ryan Jenkins behind the scriptwriter, is the same person as the little guy sitting opposite me?"
"Yes." Harvey Weinstein nodded and asked strangely, "Don't you know? Has no one told you?"
"Oh, God!" Al Pacino covered his forehead, "I always thought it was two people with the same name and surname, hell! Ryan, why have you never said that you wrote the script?"
"Hey, Al, you've never asked!" Ryan looked wronged, "Do you want me to run in front of you and say with your tail up, Mr. Al Pacino, I created the script "The Sixth Sense". Please praise me quickly, please praise me."
Ryan's words, combined with his movements and expressions, looked very funny, which made everyone laugh at the same time.
After laughing, Al still looked incredible. He first looked at David Finch, then Harvey Wienstein, then Nicole Kidman, and all the three of them nodded and confirmed that this was the truth.
"Are you surprised, Al?" Harvey Weinstein seemed to have the same feeling, "David and I were no better than you when we heard the news, and..."
He looked at Nicole, Ryan, and Jinsley sitting together, "You are so indifferent, you've kept such important news from me?"
"Important news?" The three of them looked at each other, obviously not understanding what Mr. Fatty was talking about.
Harvey Weinstein simply stopped talking, and quickly took out a New York Times weekend supplement from his briefcase and turned directly to the bestseller rankings. "The latest issue of bestseller rankings, fifth place "Jurassic Park", 31st place "Ryan Story Collection", and a "Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone" that did not make the rankings."
"If I hadn't bought a New York Times last weekend, if I hadn't seen the writing style of these books so similar to the script of "The Sixth Sense", if it weren't for the names behind these authors Ryan? Jenkins..."
"Come on, Harvey, I admit that those three books are my works." Ryan spread his hands. This was not a shameful thing, and there was nothing to admit.
"Oh, God!" Although I had thought of this answer for a long time, with Harvey Weinstein's determination to work in business for many years, I couldn't help but exclaim in a low voice.
Al Pacino and David Finch on the other side were not much better, especially David Finch, who was holding a fork and putting a bacon omelette into his mouth, but at this time, he was sitting there blankly, without moving as if someone had pressed the pause switch.
Al simply snatched the supplement from Harvey Weinstein, as if he would believe it only after confirming it with his own eyes.
It was not until a few minutes later that the rest of the restaurant calmed down, but the eyes of Ryan all changed. If he could write a script like "The Sixth Sense" and could also explain it with inspiration and combined with his own experience, what about these works?
"Jurassic Park" was published in 1986. How old was he? He was over six or seven years old. Other children were still playing houses and fiddling with Transformers and Barbie dolls, but he started writing books.
If it were someone else, they would doubt whether someone was representing it, but he was still an orphan in the welfare home at that time. He had no money and no power, and someone would have been in the head and went to his pen to him?
What's more, since the start of the filming, the boy's performance has fallen into their eyes. He is a precocious, intelligent and whimsical child. They even often feel that they are talking to an adult, and the outstanding acting skills he showed during the filming. What does this mean?
Could it be that while God closed a window for him, he also opened a door for him, and this door was still the Arc de Triomphe!
At this time, except for Ryan and the other two, the others had no food to eat, and they were discussing what to leave the restaurant.
Even though there were interludes of this kind, the filming still had to continue. At the request of Ryan and Harvey Weinstein, the others tacitly did not pass the matter outside.
But after Ryan cooperated with the crew to deal with the people from the Children's Association, he always felt that Mr. Fatty was planning something, especially looking into his eyes, it was like a hungry wolf seeing fresh meat.
As mentioned before, the actors always have ups and downs. An old actor like Al is the strongest in self-regulation, followed by Ryan, and Nicole is ranked last among the three main actors.
"Ryan, you're a natural actor." It sounds like Nicole is praising him, but the following sentence reveals her true intentions, "There is no trace of lying to others!"
Obviously, Nicole recalled some past experiences. Now I think this little guy was fooling her at that time, but fortunately it was all small things that were harmless.
"Is that? Nicole." Al Pacino came out of nowhere, and was very graceful and said meaningfully, "Do I need to help you discipline this little guy who breaks out?"
"Oh, hell." Al suddenly felt a chill in the costume he had just changed into. He quickly took a moment of sucking in his abdomen, and a thin green object appeared in his hand. "What is this?"
When Al bowed, Ryan had already jumped to the distance, rolled his hands into a trumpet, and shouted, "Hey, Al, stay away from Nicole, otherwise the next time he wouldn't have cut off the thorned cactus leaves."
