Aircraft flight test refers to various tests conducted by an aircraft under real flight environment conditions, referred to as aircraft test flights for short.

The purpose of aircraft test flight is to verify the results of theoretical and ground tests, identify design indicators, airworthiness and usage performance. The design and ground test of aircraft are carried out under theoretical assumptions and non-comprehensive simulation conditions, and need to be verified through test flights.

So from the beginning of construction of the aircraft, all parts need theoretical verification and simulation, they will experiment with their own. Otherwise, with such a high cost, how could it be built?

However, no matter how comprehensive theories and simulation experiments are, they are not real flights, so the actual flight is still real flights.

Test flight is different from ordinary flight. It requires some large-scale actions that test the aircraft. Therefore, test pilots must have stronger psychological qualities and skills than ordinary pilots.

The test flight content includes nine major items:

1 Assess whether the seating can enable the pilot to work safely, effectively and comfortably.

2 Instrument calibration test: Analyze and determine the position error of the static pressure system of the airspeed tube and the recovery coefficient of the atmospheric temperature system.

3 Flight quality (static and dynamic) tests: including aircraft stability, maneuverability, maneuverability and stall-related tests.

4 Performance test: Determine the best flight parameters based on the aircraft design performance, including maximum speed, minimum speed, climb, range, flight time, ceiling, maneuverable flight and take-off landing performance and other tests. The test is carried out at various altitudes and speeds.

5 tail rotation test: Through the test, find out the conditions for entering the tail rotation, determine the model of the tail rotation, find out the method of changing the tail rotation, clarify the status of the engine and aircraft in the tail rotation and the situation of sharp drop in the height in the tail rotation. When conducting the tail rotation test, sometimes add large loads to the aircraft or increase the aircraft strength, add modification devices, etc.

6 Flutter test: Determine whether the aircraft has flutter in various usage states or whether it has sufficient attenuation characteristics. Generally, sudden manipulation, detonation of small rockets or excitation methods are used to apply disturbances to the wings to measure their response.

7 Flight load test: Test flights are carried out according to design conditions to identify the design load. The measured values ​​are compared with the results of the intensity test and intensity calculation to identify its safety.

8 Engine test: Identify the working performance of the engine and its adaptability to the aircraft in the flight state. Measure the thrust and fuel consumption, test the acceleration, deceleration, matching of the intake duct and engine, air starting performance, and engine handling, etc.

9 Airborne equipment tests: including tests such as communications, navigation, control and life support systems.
