Chapter 143 Eating Phases

Many Hollywood film companies have North American distribution capabilities but are unable to distribute movies overseas. Polykin Pictures is the opposite.

This British-registered film company was founded in the early 1990s and was originally mainly used to produce films. It was not until 1993 that it truly had the ability to release movies. The scope of the initial release of movies was limited to the UK.

Thanks to Polykin's mature record distribution system, Polykin Pictures established a film distribution channel very quickly. Before Polykin was acquired by the Seagram Group, Polykin Pictures already had the ability to distribute films in Europe, Australia, East Asia, Southeast Asia and Latin America.

But Polygon Film has no distribution channel in North America. The North American film market is the most xenophobic film market in the world. It is too difficult for foreign companies to enter the North American film market, and even British companies will find it difficult to do it.

In the past few years, Polykin Pictures has relied on two companies, Sony Columbia Pictures and Gramessi Pictures, to release videos in North America.

In the conference room, Garcia asked: "Those people from Polygon Distribution Department are very familiar with Sony Columbia Pictures?"

Ronan found a document, handed it over, and said, "Sony Columbia has released seven movies for Polygon."

After reading the information, Garcia gave it to Robert again and said, "We don't know people from Polykin, which will become a big obstacle."

Ronan recognized what he said: "It would be much easier if someone familiar is recommended."

Robert immediately responded: "Sony Columbia Pictures?"

Ronan nodded and continued: "From the data collected, Polykin Pictures' distribution department is headed by Allen Albert and Danny Donald, Allen Albert is the director, and Danny Donald is his deputy. The two have a high prestige in the distribution department. If they handle them, they can basically attract their distribution team. With this distribution team, it means that they can get distribution channels outside North America, the Middle East and Africa."

"We have North American distribution channels." Robert said: "In the Middle East... and Africa, these two local markets are smaller and can be slowly built on the original basis."

Garcia reminded: "The premise is that we can get it."

Ronan looked serious: "It's right. If Universal Pictures really dismisses Polygon Pictures' staff, this group of people may attract some people's attention."

Companies like DreamWorks and Lionsgate Pictures dream about having overseas distribution channels.

Especially DreamWorks, as long as it establishes overseas issuance capabilities, it will truly have some capital to confront the six major companies.

Ronan asked Garcia: "How are you asking about Universal Pictures?"

"The news within Universal Pictures." Garcia replied: "Just like the news you got, what Universal Pictures really wants is Polygon Pictures' film library, and it is not interested in employees who need a lot of human capital. Moreover, Universal Pictures' overseas distribution system is much more complete than Polygon, and it does not require Polygon to build a channel that has just been formed."

Ronan asked again: "Have you heard that other companies are interested in Polygon?"

Robert and Garcia looked at each other, and said by the latter: "Not yet."

Ronan knew the attractiveness of distribution channels for film companies that wanted to grow, and said, "Inquiry more about this, especially DreamWorks and Lionsgate Pictures."

Most Hollywood production companies are doing production in peace and quiet. There are actually many companies that want to grow bigger, but very few are really put into implementation.

Funding and risk alone will stump 99% of small companies.

Relativity Entertainment is now relatively sufficiently funded. Even if the commission for the distribution of Embassy Pictures has been taken, "Blair the Witch" has a large revenue.

North America's box office revenue was $79.5 million, the sequel copyright was sold for $12 million, the videotape and discs were $7 million in the first week plus the revenue in the following months is $9 million, all copyrights overseas are $50 million, the TV station's first round of playback rights of $3 million, and the subsequent two rounds of playback rights of $1 million.

The current total revenue of the movie is US$161.5 million, and TV broadcasts, video tapes and discs can continue to generate revenue in the future.

Of course, the net profit is not that much, such as videotapes and discs need to be paid to channels, etc.

As for those in the Taxation Bureau, Ronan never wants to provoke him. Tax avoidance is also legal means, and investment tax deduction is the best way.

Currently, "The God of Death is Coming" is still released in North America, with a total box office of US$65.5 million. It won't take long to bring in this film a lot of revenue.

Only with funds in hand can Luo Nan be confident, otherwise he will not even be able to satisfy others' salary. How can he poach people?

Ronan called lawyer Dinah and investigators in London to ask them to help collect more and more detailed information. If Universal Pictures really do what they know and he is well prepared, he can formulate targeted plans and attract people more easily.

Even Ronan received news from Polygon Film, and of course these situations were on the desks of some big shots in the circle.

In a small conference room on the top floor of DreamWorks Film, the three giants gathered together, and there were several core senior executives of the company.

"I have worked with Universal Pictures for many years and have just contacted Ron Mayer." Spielberg's relationship with Universal Pictures is quite complicated. "Ron Mayer confirmed that Universal Pictures only has Polykin Pictures' library and others are not interested."

David Geffen asked with a bald head, "Steven, can't Universal Pictures acquire Polygon Pictures first and then transfer the distribution department to us?"

Spielberg smiled bitterly: "David, there is no possibility of this, my relationship with Universal Pictures..."

David Geffen is a record industry after all, and he is not particularly familiar with some of the situation in Hollywood. Spielberg knows this, but he doesn't want to explain it. His love-hate entanglement with Universal Pictures is really hard to explain.

In the early 1990s, in order to raise funds for the filming of "Schindler's List", he had to accept the directorship position of "Jurassic Park" under pressure from Universal Studios. His relationship with Universal has taken a sharp turn since then, which is one of the reasons why he decided to create DreamWorks.

Jerryfor Carsonberg said: "The rise of DreamWorks will touch the interests of inherent forces. The six major companies are the people who are least willing to see DreamWorks establish complete channels. Will Universal Pictures sell us overseas distribution channels?"

With some questioning, David Geffen glanced at Jerryfor Carsonberg with a displeasure.

Jerryfor Carsonberg snorted in his throat, and it seemed that David Geffen was not very happy.

DreamWorks has been established for five years. The three giants that were still united at the time have already had rifts due to various interests and power disputes.

But in the general direction that is beneficial to the company, the three of them are still consistent.

Spielberg interrupted in time: "Overseas distribution channels are very important to DreamWorks! It is not just the film and television production department." He first looked at Jerry Verksenberg: "The animations in the animation department can also enter the global market through DreamWorks channels." He also looked at David Geffen: "We can also learn Polygon and use the film channels as the basis to establish global record channels."

David Geffen and Jerefer Carsonberg both nodded and expressed their support for Spielberg.

After secret struggles and compromises, these three giants have now formed a situation where Spielberg is in charge of live-action film and television and related industries, Jerefer Carsonberg is in charge of animation production, and David Geffen is in charge of recording and music businesses.

In a way, the three giants stand together.

This may stabilize the top-level power structure, but the three-legged situation is actually not good for a startup company.

Spielberg said again: "Ron Meyerk revealed this news because of personal relationship with me. It is impossible to ask Universal Pictures to help DreamWorks."

Jerryfor Carsonberg asked: "Stephen, this news will spread soon. Overseas distribution channels are too important to us and must be taken down as soon as possible."

David Geffen didn't say anything, but looked at Spielberg with concern.

He is the one who is most familiar with the film industry here.

Spielberg said: "I have never had contact with people from Polygon Pictures and are not familiar with their management. Currently, people from Polygon Pictures are in London, England. We must send people to London as soon as possible to contact them, and strive to get the entire team of Polygon distribution department to join DreamWorks."

He looked at a big nose: "I have asked my acquaintances in London to learn about Polygon Pictures, and news will come soon. Albert, if you go to London, you must take over Polygon's distribution team."

Facing the Big Three, Albert said confidently: "You are waiting for my good news."

David Geffen reminded: "The news has not spread in full, so be sure to keep it confidential so as not to attract more competitors."

Spielberg also said: "Yes, keep it confidential."

"Yeah." Albert nodded cautiously.

Spielberg was also more at ease with him. He was his confidant and might not be very capable, but his loyalty was commendable and would never betray the interests of DreamWorks.

Due to his ability, Alberg's position is not very high. If he can do this, he can openly bring up his position.

Some details were discussed later. After the meeting, Albert left DreamWorks and prepared to go home to pack his luggage so that he could rush to London early tomorrow morning.

As soon as I arrived at the front hall, a familiar entertainment agent came over.

"Mr. Hoffman." The agent came to Albert and whispered: "The character I mentioned last time..."

Albert left the office building and said, "Let them all go to the Binhai Hotel tonight, and I will discuss the role with them myself."

The meaning of this sentence is clear, but the agent immediately said: "No problem, it will be delivered on time at 7 o'clock in the evening."

Watching Albert Hoffman leave, the smile on the agent's face disappeared and he spitted: This person is a pervert and his eating habits are too ugly!
