1.22 East meets West

"Oh?" Liu Bei asked, "Wenhe also knows Prince Anxi?"

Jia Xu said: "Xu is just a hearsay. Rumor has it that Luoyang Baima Temple came to a Western Region vassal monk during the reign of the late emperor. Before becoming a monk, he was a prince who had inherited the throne. In order to come to the Central Plains to preach, he gave the throne to his uncle and became a monk. He arrived at Luoyang Baima Temple and devoted himself to translating scriptures. He left Luoyang ten years ago and traveled around the world. He was missing. He heard that he had gone to Jiangnan."

An Qing, whose courtesy name was Shigao, was originally the prince of Anxi Kingdom, so he took An as his surname. He was the first person to pass on Abhidharma's learning and Zen method into the Central Plains. It is said that he had inherited the throne of Anxi, but in order to preach to the Han Dynasty, he gave the throne to his uncle and became a monk and converted to Buddhism. He arrived in Luoyang in the first year of Jianhe (147). Later, he settled in Baima Temple and was proficient in Chinese soon. By the third year of Jianning (170), more than 20 years, according to the later generations' "Catalogue of Sutras", An Shigao translated thirty-five Buddhist scriptures, including the "Catalogue of the Path of Practice", and 115 volumes. The existing twenty-two types and twenty-six volumes are all belonging to the Hinayana sutras, focusing on the Theravada Zen method.

After that, I traveled to Yuzhang, Xunyang, Kuaiji and other places in the south of the Yangtze River. I didn't know where to end.

Liu Bei thought it was wrong: "Since you were on a trip ten years ago, why did you say, 'I ordered my brother to live in seclusion in the White Horse Temple and devote himself to translating scriptures, but I haven't seen him for many years'?"

"I thought Yunyou was just a remark from him who stayed in the door and stopped seeing me." The female shop owner sighed: "Until the month ago my brother returned to Baima Temple. He sent someone to send a token three days ago to meet him. I would also be skeptical."

"So that's it." Whether you travel around the world or not, the person who returns home is already in the White Horse Temple. Liu Bei asked again: "Why do you still sell this wine shop since your brother has returned?"

"Thirty-four years, the winter and summer festivals are common. My brother doesn't want to see me. Now... Now..." The female shopkeeper paused slightly and said again: "Now I don't know how to meet each other. Therefore, I want to sell this tavern and return to rest with the caravan. From then on, I'll be separated by thousands of miles, so it's better not to see you."

"..." This is the brother-sister version of "neighborhood-like timidity"?

Compared to Liu Bei, Jia Xu, who was considered an experienced person, heard the implicit voice: "Your Excellency wants someone to do it for you?"

"That's right." The female shopkeeper nodded gently: "Since you are destined to be together, can you go there for me?"

"What's wrong?" Liu Bei smiled.

The female shopkeeper first looked directly at Liu Bei's eyes. After a while, she gently lowered her eyes. She took out a slightly yellow curved bone piece from behind and placed it on the table.

Looking at the curved curve, it looks like a fragment of ivory. What surprised Liu Bei was that the relief on the fragment was actually several of the twelve main gods of Olympus.

What is the origin of Rest and Ancient Greece?

Looking closer, although the subject originated from Greece, the carving skills were mixed with obvious Han style. Western myths and Eastern techniques were indeed the product of the combination of East and West on the Silk Road.

When picking up the bone pieces, Liu Bei asked again: "Do you have something to tell me?"

"There is nothing to say, and there is no need to say." The female shopkeeper shook her head slowly, with her expression on her face.

This brother and sister are surprising.

After leaving Hu Ji's restaurant, Liu Bei couldn't help but smile.

Jia Xu asked, "Why is the lord laughing?"

"I laughed at the kindness of the ancient road. I was here to buy a wine shop, but when I was not careful, I became a messenger." Liu Bei replied with a smile.

"Then I will accompany my lord to be enthusiastic. Let's meet the Taoist monk." Jia Xu also smiled. Let Jia Xu believe in Buddhism? This is more difficult than letting Bai Qi not dig a hole.

The two ministers went to the same car.

White Horse Temple is located in the west of Luoyang. It is located three miles outside Yongmen and north of the Imperial Road. It is a spectacular complex of buildings.

In the seventh year (64th year), Emperor Ming stayed in Nangong overnight. Meng was six feet tall and the golden man shining above his head came from the west and flew around the palace. The next morning, he told the ministers about this dream. Doctor Fu Yi reported: "There is a god in the West, called Buddha, just like what Your Majesty dreamed of." Emperor Ming was overjoyed. So he sent more than ten people including Cai Yin, Qin Jing and others to the Western Regions to seek Buddhist scriptures and Buddhist Dharma.

The following year, Cai, Qin and others bid farewell to the imperial capital and embarked on a journey of "Yongping for the Dharma". After going through hardships, they finally met the eminent monks Shemoteng and Zhu Falan in the Dayuezhi Kingdom. They also saw Buddhist scriptures and white felt statues of Sakyamuni Buddha. They begged the two eminent monks to go east to spread the Dharma and preach the teachings. In the past ten years, the two eminent monks and the Eastern Han Dynasty mission to carry Buddhist scriptures on white horses, and the Buddha statues returned to Luoyang together.

Emperor Ming was very happy and respectful to the two high-ranking monks. Not only did he meet him personally, but he also arranged to live in Honglu Temple for a temporary residence. In the eleventh year, he ordered a monk's house to be built on the north of the Sanli Imperial Road outside Xiyong Gate of Luoyang. In order to commemorate the white horse carrying scriptures, he named it "Baima Temple". The word "Shi" originated from the "Shi" in "Honglu Temple". From then on, the word "Shi" became a common name for temples.

The "Forty-Two Chapters of Sutra" translated by Shemoteng and Zhu Falan here is the first existing Buddhist scripture to translate Buddhist scriptures. After Shemoteng and Zhu Falan, many eminent monks from the Western Regions came to Baima Temple to translate scriptures. In the next 150 years, a total of 192 volumes, a total of 395 volumes of Buddhist scriptures were translated here.

It should be noted that.

Nowadays, all the monks in White Horse Temple came from the Western Regions. No Han people cut their hair into monks.

It was not until the fifth year of Ganlu of Cao Wei (260 AD). A believer named Zhu Shixing came to the altar to receive the precepts and became the first monk in Han. His Dharma name was Bajie, and he was called "Zhu Bajie".

This grand building complex is full of the style of Zhendu (Tianzhu) architectural style and is integrated into the Han-style pavilions and towers, and is full of a conflicting and harmonious beauty.

There are many believers in Luoyang, but no one is ordained.

Passing through the street and passing through the city. As soon as we entered Xiguo, a temple is more than 500 feet high. "The pearl palace is deep, looking at the light of six feet apart, and it is vaguely above the five feet apart." It is as straight as a mountain stands, and the relic tower called "Qiyun" stands tall under the sky. It is called "Qiyun Pavilion". "Qiyun Tower" is a later name. The word "Ta" has not appeared in the Central Plains except Linxiang.

He handed the token to the monk in the temple. He returned soon and asked Liu Bei to come in.

Walking along the main hall, entering the west courtyard, stop in front of a wing room, and lead the monks of the vassal state to leave by themselves.

Liu Bei signaled Jia Xu to knock on the door gently.

"Please come in." The official Gyeonggi dialect with a straightforward character.

Shi Huan stepped forward and pushed open the door for Liu Bei. He swept over quickly, and then retreated silently.

The walls of the wing room are empty and there is nothing else. Only a bed in the center is placed and a shorter one is set in front of it.

The old monk with white eyebrows and shoulders, eagle-eyed eyes and nose was sitting on the couch.

Liu Bei took off his shoes and saluted solemnly: "Liu Bei greets the monk."

"Danapati (Danapati), donor) does not need to be too polite." The old monk replied with the Buddha's ritual.

Liu Bei then walked closer to Jia Xu and sat down a few days later.

The old monk's compassionate eyes all fell on Liu Bei. He had never looked at Jia Xu, who was sitting next to him.

"When I saw Tanna, the old monk understood the cause and effect." The monk said first: "I have already had my wish, so I will no longer worry or bother me."

Liu Bei was stunned: "I haven't met the eminent monk Su, so how can I get the cause and effect?"

If you don’t see me, you will pass away!

"You come for her, it's cause and effect." The monk sighed: "The old monk is afraid that he will not be able to eliminate Tan's obsession."

"My obsession does not require the trouble of the monks." Liu Bei smiled slightly.

"Remember, the cause and effect in the world are all in me." After the monk chanted a Buddha's words in Sanskrit, he no longer had a sound.

After a long time, Jia Xu stretched out his hand and had no breath.

"Is this time I passed away?" In addition to being surprised, Liu Bei felt a trace of inbreakable anger.
