Chapter 1 The Villa
In the early morning, a fat middle-aged woman carrying a backpack walked along a country road to the door of a single-family house.
She stopped, looked at the address recorded on the paper in her hand, then opened the door and walked into the garden, and rang the doorbell.
The fat woman wiped the sweat from her forehead, straightened her messy hairstyle for the camera, and waited until the host opened the door.
"Mrs. Jenny, are you at home?"
The fat woman approached the intercom and forced a smile: "I am Susan, the housekeeper you hired, and I will come to serve you today."
Before arriving, Susan had roughly learned about the family's situation from the company: the male owner, James, was a famous surgeon and now worked in a hospital in the town.
Because of his wife Jenny's health, the family moved from Los Angeles to this rural town called Frame last week to recuperate. They also have a ten-year-old son, Alvin, and their youngest daughter, Leah.
The town is located on the banks of the Song En River. Although it is not as prosperous as the city, the air here is fresh, the environment is beautiful, and it has a unique flavor.
The town has a population of less than 2,000 people, but all facilities are available, from star-rated hotels to museums and art galleries.
The single-family villa bought by James' family is located in a somewhat remote location. It takes thirty or forty minutes to drive from the center of town. There are only about five or six households in this area, and they are hundreds of meters apart from each other.
.
More than ten seconds passed, but still no one in the bungalow responded to me.
Susan couldn't help but ring the doorbell a few more times. After waiting for about a minute, she took out her mobile phone and wanted to make a call to the other party's home.
At this moment, the door suddenly opened.
What appeared in front of Susan was a blond girl who looked to be no more than seven or eight years old.
The girl has a pair of blue eyes. Although there are some small freckles on her cheeks, they add a bit of alternative beauty.
At this moment, she was standing by the door with her long hair disheveled, barefoot, staring at herself expressionlessly, her expression looking a little indifferent.
"Hi, sweetheart. Is your mother home?"
The girl in front of her should be Leah, the youngest daughter of the employer's family mentioned in the information. Thinking of this, Susan greeted the girl in a friendly manner, and her inquiring eyes were already looking towards the living room behind her.
Unexpectedly, the girl turned around without saying a word, walked back to the living room, and climbed up the stairs to the second floor. Seeing this, Susan froze in embarrassment.
Just when she was hesitating to enter the house, a young woman's voice suddenly came from the second floor: "Is that Susan? Wait a minute, I'm getting up. Please go to the living room and take a rest first."
"Okay, Mrs. Jenny!" Susan breathed a sigh of relief, thinking that it was the little daughter who just went upstairs to inform her mother.
After putting on a pair of clean slippers at the door, she walked into the lobby of the villa. After looking around at the furnishings, she sat down on the sofa obediently.
"It's very hot today, how did you get here?" Mrs. Jenny's voice came from upstairs.
"Oh, there is a shuttle bus in the town. Take it to the suburbs and then walk. It will take about ten minutes to find your home." Susan wiped the sweat from her forehead and responded hurriedly.
Today's outdoor temperature is as high as 35 degrees, but the doors and windows in the villa are closed, and the air conditioner is not turned on.
Not only that, there was a strange smell permeating the room, and I couldn't tell where it came from.
"The room may be a little stuffy. I've been sick these days, so I didn't turn on the air conditioner. I'm really sorry. By the way, there's juice in the refrigerator. Please help yourself." Jenny's voice sounded a little hoarse, and she coughed intermittently.
Said to Susan.
Information shows that Mrs. Jenny was originally a teacher. She accidentally miscarried due to a traffic accident. Since then, her health has also suffered from illnesses.
At this time, the other party's voice sounded very weak. Out of worry, Susan quickly got up and walked to the stairs. She raised her head and said to the bedroom on the second floor: "Madam, if you feel uncomfortable, just lie down and have a good rest."
As she spoke, she opened the refrigerator, glanced at the ingredients inside, and raised her voice and said, "I'll prepare breakfast for you and the children first, and I'll bring the food upstairs later."
After getting Jenny's response, Susan quickly took out the eggs and bacon from the refrigerator, and then took a bottle of iced drink.
After pouring a glass of juice, she drank it down in one gulp as her mouth was already dry.
"Is the juice spoiled?"
Susan wiped the corners of her mouth and felt that the drink she just drank had a strange taste. For fear that the children would be upset, Susan poured the drink into the sink and prepared to make breakfast.
The moment she turned around, she suddenly saw Leah's figure at the kitchen door.
Susan was startled by this sudden scene. There was no movement near the stairs just now, and she didn't know when the child came over.
The girl still didn't wear slippers and walked into the kitchen barefoot.
Susan felt that this little girl was too weird, and everything she did looked a little abnormal.
But after all, I was a new nanny, and it was difficult to say anything. I could only coax patiently: "Lia, I want to make some food for you. You can go to the living room and play for a while."
However, the girl ignored her words and kept staring at the empty kettle on the table with her blue eyes. Vaguely, Susan felt something like resentment in her eyes.
"Do you want to drink juice? Sorry, I just tasted it and it seems to have gone bad. If you want to drink it, I will squeeze fresh juice for you right away." As soon as Susan finished explaining, the girl suddenly turned around and ran away.
Susan chased the girl out of the kitchen and saw her running upstairs quickly, and then there was a sound of opening the door. Soon, a man's voice was faintly heard in a certain room, and the other person seemed to be scolding Leah for disturbing her.
work.
"Didn't Mr. James go to the hospital?" Susan was a little surprised. She didn't expect that the man would be at home today.
If this is the case, why didn't he go downstairs when he came just now? From the beginning to the end, it was Mrs. Jenny who was communicating with him, but except for their youngest daughter, the couple and their eldest son have not shown up yet.
"Mr. James, it turns out you are at home! Do you need to prepare breakfast for you?" Susan asked out of politeness.
However, this time, no one responded to him upstairs. Even the hostess's bedroom, where coughing sounds had occasionally been heard before, became quiet.
Susan suddenly felt that something was wrong. The behavior of this family was too weird.
Out of curiosity, she tiptoed along the stairs to the second floor. At this moment, she suddenly discovered that the smell on the second floor was worse than in the living room.
There are four rooms upstairs, and the two doors near the corridor have cartoon door plates with the names "Alvin" and "Leah" written on them.
The door to the bedroom of the two children was wide open, and it was pitch black inside. The curtains were drawn tightly, and it was almost impossible to see what was there.
"Sir, Madam, are you there?" Susan suddenly noticed that the door to one of the rooms was ajar. After asking twice outside the door, she carefully walked in.
Judging from the layout, this should be the male master's study. At this moment, Mr. James is leaning on a chair with his back to him. There is no one else in the study, and Leah from before is nowhere to be seen.
"Hello Mr. James, I am Susan, the housekeeper you hired..."
Susan walked forward cautiously, and after smelling the smell that seemed to come from the male host, she fearfully stretched out her hand and patted the other party's shoulder.
"Boom——"
However, the next second, the male host's body suddenly fell limply to the ground.
Mr. James's complexion was livid, his eyes were bulging, and there were black blood stains around his mouth and nose. He had obviously been dead for a long time.
"Ahhhh!!!"
Susan screamed and rushed out of the room. She opened the door of the next bedroom, and through the light from the curtains, she saw the long-dead hostess Susan lying on the bed with sunken cheeks and a long mouth.
There is also a boy's body hanging on the fan in the house. Judging from his age, it should be the eldest son of the family, Alvin.
Susan was frightened by the scene in front of her. If this family was dead, then who was the person who was talking to her before? What happened to the little daughter of this family?!
"No, I have to get out of here..." She muttered to herself, turned around and ran downstairs.
However, at this moment, a small white figure suddenly appeared on the stairs in front.
"Where are you going?"
Leah tilted her head and stared at Susan, holding a sharp knife in her hand. What frightened Susan was that the voice coming out of this girl's throat was clearly that of "Mrs. Jenny" just now!
"Don't come here..." Susan backed away repeatedly. In a hurry, she wanted to escape into the bedroom and lock the door, but soon she felt a severe cramping pain in her abdomen.
Susan fell to the ground, her throat felt fishy and sweet, and she spat out a large pool of blood.
"I added some flavoring to that glass of juice. How is it? It tastes good, right?" This time, Leah's voice turned into a deep and hoarse male voice.
