550 Tank Assault (Part 1)

September 1917. It was a dull month, and World War I was coming to an end and the end. This month, the Bolsheviks in Russia were still discussing the possibility of armed seizure of power. This month, Britain and France urged Americans to speed up the deployment of troops. It was also this month that the US Army established the first tank unit.

Speaking of this tank unit, one person must be mentioned - to be honest, many people are familiar with this name, but it is still necessary to mention it again. First of all, there is actually a suffix after this name. The Patton we are familiar with should actually be called Patton III, because his father, his grandfather also called this name, and even his son called this name (if this family gathers together, it should be quite happy).

Back to the topic, for example, the first generation of Patton (for convenience, it is called Patton I), this old Patton was killed in 1864. Comrades familiar with American history will know that this old man died in the Civil War.

Patton I graduated from the Ferginia Military Academy (Padton III attended this academy in order to get through the back door). He was a heroic cavalry colonel in the Civil War. After his death, his saddle was kept in the Patton family. This was also the beginning of Patton III's relationship with the cavalry and with tanks.

However, when it comes to Patton I, I have to mention that this patron of Patton I was also an amazing figure. During the American War, he became a brigade general. However, it was probably the beginning of the curse of this family. The brigade general was unfortunately sprinkled blood on the battlefield.

And this unlucky man set a flag for the Patton family: "Fight bravely! Go forward! Go forward! Never insult the honor of the family! Never tarnish our ancient surnames!"

The Patton family behind them are all fierce people. By the way, except for Patton's father. This Patton II is a standard American politician template. He is a lawyer and is good at speaking. He has a law firm and has worked as a district attorney. His wife is the third lady of the Wilson family in the Ganyfornia.

Of course, the Wilson family is also very awesome. For example, Patton III's grandfather was the first mayor of Los Angeles!

In short, compared with other famous American generals in World War II, Patton III was an absolute rich second generation and an official second generation. Even Patton III was tall and mighty when he was young, and he was a bit tall and powerful. He was a bit tall and handsome (but to be honest, some people said that Patton was handsome when he was young, and he said his heart. After seeing the photos of the old man when he was young, he really didn't think he was handsome. That person could only be considered tall and powerful).

Moreover, Patton was not only strong in his ancestors, but also in his own strength. His son was also very strong. His son, Patton's fourth son, inherited his father's business and created a historical record of two generations of father and son serving as the highest commander of the same unit (Second Armored Division).

Let me put it this way, prominent family affairs are the basis for Patton's success. To put it bluntly, without the help of the Patton family, Patton III may have been lost in the crowd (or else he would not be qualified to enter the West Point). Why do you want to say this? It is just to tell some students who like to talk about the system that there is no absolute fairness in the world here, even the Lighthouse Kingdom has a backdoor and nepotism relationship.

Okay, let’s get back to the topic. This chapter is obviously about the story of Patton III. As the first tank player in the United States and the commander of the first tank unit in the United States, Patton seemed to be very brilliant in various encyclopedias and biography!

But, I want to say, this is nonsense! Most of them are gold-publicized, based on the counter-inferiority of Patton III's victory in World War II. Ordinary people think that those geniuses are always different from ordinary people. Patton's victory in World War II is brilliant, so naturally the battle will not be much worse.

The question is, is this true? Can anyone tell us what decent results Patton III achieved in World War I? Did they destroy countless tanks, armored vehicles or fortification bunkers like Karlyus and Weichmann? Or did Patton III siege the city and penetrate the German defense line?

To be honest, such a record cannot be found. Patton III had no results in his battle. The only thing worth mentioning is that this person established a tank school in France to train tankers, and it is said that his teaching is quite strict.

As for what he said, Patton became the first-class tank expert at the time, creatively established a new army, invented epoch-making new tactics, and created an invincible and invincible heroic unit. He also said that his courage and military leadership were fully demonstrated on the battlefield. If you believe these nonsense, you can only say: "Young man, you are fooled!"

Let me put it this way, if Patton and his troops were really invincible and invincible, they should have had a lot of brilliant results mentioned above, but unfortunately there were no results. There were no results to testify to invincibility and invincibility. On the contrary, what we can see is that in June 1920, the US Senate passed the National Defense Act, which directly abolished the existence of tank troops as a service branch and directly disbanded the tank troops.

That's what? If Patton's tank troops are invincible and invincible, will the Senate eat too much and do things that make the relatives feel happy?

Obviously, Patton did not have many outstanding performances in World War I, and his tank troops performed very normally. How ordinary is it? When he arrived at the Senate, he felt that there was no need to retain the existence of this army.

If Patton's tank troops were really dazzling and brilliant in World War I, that would be a real ghost. The American soldiers used the French FT-17 back then, so there is no need to say more about the performance of this thing? It would be nonsense to expect this guy to use the effect of tank armor assault in World War II!

At that time, even the British and French who actually used tanks on a large scale did not dare to say that they had mastered the usage of tanks, let alone that they had just come into contact with American recruits in tanks?

Of course, Patton was indeed ready to use the tanks at hand to show off, and this was also the beginning of the story of this chapter. In the previous chapter, it was said that the Allies' attack on Szczecin was frustrated and could not open the situation at all. Faced with this painful situation, in order to break through the Russians' strong position, Patton's tank brigade was transferred to Szczecin for battle.

"Occurrence! We must immediately attack, attack at all costs, and kick the enemy's crotch hard until they are broken!"

This is the Pattonian speech. When the tank brigade commander arrived in Szczechin, the first thing he said was attack. At this time, his temporary superior, Major General Greg, the commander of the 23rd Division of the British Expeditionary Force, was stunned by these words.

The very British-style major general wrote in his diary: "Col. Patton gave me a bad first impression. He was like a rude and rude cowboy... and the suggestions he made were even more shocking. Attack? What kind of attack? When the Germans do not cooperate, we will blindly invest and will only be hit by the Russians!"

But Patton's other temporary superior, Colonel Clement, the commander of the French Brigade, admired the too young American colonel, but the reason for appreciation was not because of Patton's military talent, but because Patton could speak fluent Parisian French. And Patton highly praised French and French-style life, which made the Gaul rooster with a strong national self-esteem very comfortable.

After some argument or argument, Major General Greg was forced to agree to Patton's plea and agreed to launch an armored rushing operation the next morning to open a breakthrough for the subsequent troops to the Russians' defense.

For this moment, Patton had been waiting for a long time. He couldn't wait to show his strength. In this attack, he invested in a whole tank battalion. At the same time, Li Xiaofeng was also actively preparing. He was preparing to attack the convoy team. Interestingly, Triandafilov selected a breakthrough point that was exactly the direction of Patton's attack the next day. In other words, two geniuses in mechanized combat were about to collide for the first time.

But unfortunately, Triandafilov did not have tanks, and even had few armored cars. This collision looked more like a confrontation between infantry and tanks.

After turning around, at 7:30 in the morning, when the sun had just risen and there was still a faint mist on the battlefield, Patton took action first. In order to achieve the effect of the raid, he canceled the preparation for artillery fire and directly invested about 60 tanks.

Accompanied by the rumbling gasoline engine, the ft-17's tracks ran through the weeds and launched an attack on the Red Army positions two kilometers away. It has to be said that the performance of the tanks in this year is too good, and this speed is a little faster than that of humans. What's more, the maximum itinerary of this kind of iron can is only a pitiful 35 kilometers (such as electric vehicles today are not as good as). After arranging and waiting before the attack and the fuel consumption of the warm-up car, the ft-17 is almost a one-time weapon.

However, Patton, who personally directed the battle, did not think his car was too bad. He was tall and mighty and poked out most of his body from the turret, held a large telescope and observed the Red Army's position two kilometers away, and from time to time he pointed the driver's shoulders or head with his toes.

At the beginning, Patton's offense was very smooth. The Polish plain was indeed suitable for the use of armored troops. The ft-17 pressed forward without any obstacles, which felt a bit overwhelming.

Major General Greg also watched Patton's attack from behind. After putting down the telescope, he said to Colonel Clement beside him: "The American driving skills are not bad!"

For the proud Frenchman, Major General Greg's words were automatically translated as: "The performance of French tanks is pretty good!"

Yes, compared with the British water cabinet, the ft-17 is more like a tank in the true sense. The British's creativity is always the same as their dark food, and it is easy to go off the line.

Back on the battlefield, Patton's tank troops rushed forward steadily and orderly for about a mile. During this period, the Russians acted extremely calm, without firing fire, and seemed to be frightened by these rumbling steel monsters.

To be honest, both Major General Greg and Colonel Clement loved this scene very much, because this scene reminded them of the Germans who had faced tanks for the first time. The Germans were frightened at that time. They even felt that if everything went well, Patton's tank troops could really open a breakthrough.

However, they only lasted for a few minutes with such a good mood. When Patton's tanks ran forward for nearly a mile, the silence on the battlefield was broken!

The Red Flag Baltic Fleet anchored in Dongbe Lake began shelling at the request of frontline observers. A "heavy bullet" with a caliber of more than 150 mm fell around Patton's tank. Each explosion could cause a "stone rain" nearly ten meters high. Patton, who was tall and powerful, was poured hard on half of his body outside the turret.

The raindrop-like soil and sand almost buried it. If the driver hadn't been shocked, he slammed the accelerator hard and shook it hard with the tank. Poor Patton would have been buried alive by the mud and stone rain.

Of course, Patton's experience was pretty good, but he was harassed by the soil. The unlucky crew directly met God in the shelling. For example, Patton had just shaken off the mud and sand on the tank cap and saw another tank dozens of meters away hit by a large-caliber grenade.

Let's put it this way. The grenade drilled into the body of the car without any obstacles, and then the body with the turret was blown apart. The turret flew over Patton's head with the half of the unlucky car captain, and the fragments of the car body made Patton's car jingle.

As I said, this is not the worst. When the main gun of the battleship also joined the shelling, the small ft-17 was really like a leaf in a storm. A 305mm grenade landed more than ten meters in front of a tank. Just when the captain of the car was still delighted to escape the disaster, the explosion occurred.

The earth was trembling, as if an earthquake was coming. Then the shock wave and air wave swept across like a typhoon. The car leader exposed to overpressure seemed to be hit by a 50-pound hammer. A mouthful of blood was spewed out, and his driver was not much better. Under the action of the shock wave, the ft-17 was really just a can of iron, and he died of blood in seven holes in minutes.

The violent shelling lasted for ten minutes, and these ten minutes of shelling destroyed nearly one-quarter of Patton's tanks. To be honest, when I saw this scene, Patton's heart was bleeding. After all, these tank players were all trained by him, and they all had his efforts. These young men disappeared on the battlefield before they met the enemy!

But Patton is not a woman who is kind. On the contrary, he is very strong and has a hard heart, and does not have much emotion about casualties. Soon he got rid of the sadness, and for him, he continued to move forward and keep moving forward, and eliminated the evil Bolsheviks and could repay his blood!

Patton thought so and did the same. Under his leadership, the American tankers stepped on the accelerator and charged forward at full speed, which meant to tear the enemy's defense line into pieces in one breath.

At this time, Major General Greg put down his telescope again and said to Colonel Clement beside him: "The Americans performed really well!"

This time, even the proud Frenchman dared not take all the credit on himself, because the Americans did act bravely, and there was nothing to say. So he nodded in a cowardly manner to agree.

Major General Greg said again: "Look at what we can make some progress today, inform the young men and prepare for battle!"

Yes, at the beginning, Major General Greg did not give much hope for the American tanks and tankers, and it could be said that he was not optimistic about them at all, so he was not prepared to give the infantry to attack at the beginning. But now, if the Americans maintain this courageous attitude, they are likely to make progress, and Greg's cold heart will be alive again - join the infantry, occupy the Russians' positions, and let the Germans see how powerful the Allies are!

Patton didn't know that Greg and Clement behind him had changed their mentality. He was devoted to the battle and seemed to be possessed by the first generation of old Patton. At this time, he was like Patton I who rushed and beaten in the Civil War, transforming into the sharpest sharp blade, ready to bleed the polar bear!

There seems to be nothing to stop the crazy Patton. He is a little indomitable when he is so excited about his fight. Not only him, but even Greg and Clement also feel that the Russians are in danger. They believe that the Russians cannot stop the tank that "storm the rushing"!

Is this really the case? Anyway, after hearing that the Allies launched a new round of attacks and put into tanks, Triandafilov rushed to the front line to watch the battle. To be honest, the tactical genius was a little annoyed. As mentioned earlier, he was ready to take action first, but now the entire plan was disrupted by the enemy, which made him feel a little regretful.

However, Triandafilov's regret was soon dispersed because of Patton's charge. As the founder of the later deep combat theory, he began to study the future war model, especially the combat methods of mechanized war.

What is more regrettable is that the backward Russia restricted Triandafilov from experimenting with his theories immediately. Even if he met Li Xiaofeng, he could only talk about it on paper. At this time, facing the impact of tanks or mechanized troops was undoubtedly a very valuable experience.

For Triandafilov, this valuable experience will help him improve and deduce the mechanized combat theory belonging to the Red Army in the future. Based on this, he inevitably became excited again.

Poor Patton did not expect that there was already a fierce opponent on the other side of the battlefield who was ready to treat him as an experimental combat theory. If Patton knew that he was just a test piece in Triandafilov's eyes, he would be so angry that he vomited blood... (To be continued, please search for Astronomy, the novel is better and faster!
