309 stalemate

It was not the first time that Buluheer arrived in Milerovo. He had inspected the city's defense a week ago. At that time, the scenery of the small town left a deep impression on him - two important railways passed through the city, bringing a strong sense of industrial and commerciality to the small town. The chaotic tree-lined paths in the city, classic stone houses, majestic Orthodox churches and the bustling Ukrainians at the market, and the Tatans outlined a wonderful picture.

Now, these picturesque beautiful scenery disappeared without a trace, the city was filled with smoke, fierce gunfire and cannon sounds one after another, and houses and other ruins were bombarded by artillery telling the cruelty of the war. There was no living person on the street, but dead people could be seen everywhere.

The upright and upright Buluheer looked like a soldier's life. Looking at the chaos of Milerovo, the two brushed eyebrows under his forehead were twisted into a ball.

"Have you contacted Kurnikov?"

"Contact," said the correspondent quickly, "Comrade Kurnikov and his troops were compressed by the enemy in a small area of the railway line in the north of the city, and were fighting against the enemy around the railway station..."

Buluhell raised his telescope and found the direction of the train station through the heavy smoke. Then he ordered with a strong force: "Enter the city!"

Half an hour later, when Bulukhel found Kurnikov's command, the battalion commander, who had not closed his eyes all night, was napping while fighting, and even the rumbling sound of cannons could not wake him up.

Bulukhl's arrival made Kurnikov breathe a sigh of relief. His troops fought with the enemy all night and were really unable to hold on.

"The southern city has been completely lost, the enemy's troops are too much more powerful than us, and the most conservative one is probably a brigade. If you come later, I can only take the guards to the front line in person."

Buluhel nodded, without saying anything extra, but just silently examined the situation in the city. Many years later, the marshal wrote in his memoirs: "In Milerovo, a few shovels of soil were shoveled out of the ground and a few sandbags were considered a fortification... The sudden attack of the enemy did not leave much time for our comrades to build positions. Although the trenches that were urgently excavated were spread all around the city, the depth was obviously not enough. The large-sold Slavic man squatted into the trenches, and sometimes he would expose half of his head outside with his waist..."

When Buluker arrived in Milerovo, a new round of attacks by the White Army began. Under the cover of flying shells, a large number of White Army lowered their bodies and attacked the railway station. The battle here was fierce and even almost cruel!

The fierce battle made the long-lost train station even more unrecognizable, and the waiting hall had to change hands almost every hour. The white soldiers rushing into the building often got into a group with the Red Army that was fighting back before they could gain a foothold. When the Red Army had just repelled the enemy and was about to pursue the victory, the machine guns and artillery fire outside the building would push them back again.

Of course, the tenacity of the Red Army left an indelible impression on the White Army battalion commander Yakovsky, who was commanding the battle. In his words, "We have been fighting fiercely around this bean-sized building. My young man and I met a group of Bolshevik bandits with extremely high combat qualities. These damn bastards made me think..."

However, as Buluhell's main force arrived, the White Army's offensive was obviously curbed, and the future Soviet marshal used his unique personality charm and tactical qualities to teach the White Army commander a lesson, and used a beautiful roundabout encirclement to send Yakovsky and his friends to hell and prisoner war camp respectively.

As the railway station was stabilized, Buluheer's troops gradually regained several important strongholds around them and firmly controlled the north of the city in his hands. Moreover, the marshal did not blindly expand the results of the war and recover lost territory. He knew that the number of enemies far exceeded his troops, and increasing the defense area could only weaken the defense power.

"Have the enemy sent reinforcements again?"

When he heard this news, Krasnov wanted to throw his cup again. Yesterday, he finally crippled the defending troops during the day. He thought he would take Milerovo to the evening, but he suddenly had to come out again. After the war was halfway through, he could not retreat, so he had to increase his investment. He originally expected that everything would be fine if he defeated the battalion, but he thought that at least two battalions of red bandits came around the sky.

Damn, what's this going on?

Krasnov didn't know whether he should continue to increase his troops or stop his troops. He invested in the army. If the Red Army sent another division to reinforce, what would happen?

But he was not willing to give up, and the transportation line was not opened, so his treasures could not be lucky. Isn’t this a frustration!

Just when Krasnov was scratching his head, his adjutant reminded: "Your Excellency, General Jijielihus is here!"

The Czechs came? They finally got to know each other. The news made Krasnov overjoyed and hurried out to greet them. But to his disappointment, Tydierihes came alone and did not bring the Czech legion he wanted.

"God General, I heard that your attack was frustrated?"

Krasnov was very upset when he thought the Czechs were just here to come to see the joke, and he said angrily: "This is not a setback in the attack. After two days of fighting, I have eliminated thousands of Red Bandits. However, the Red Bandits have repeatedly increased their troops to defend to prevent them from being destroyed... But it is only a matter of time to eliminate them. My troops will quickly open up the traffic route and advance towards Moscow!"

Krasnov lied to protect Quanzi. After these two days of fighting, he had no courage to develop northward. With just his troops, the Red Army, who had a battalion, had to work hard. It would be better to go east and make plans after getting support from the Allies.

"I must remind you." Jijielihs said worriedly, "The activities of the Red Bandits in Slaviyansk and North Donetsk in the past two days are extremely fierce, and they have frequently begun to harass our army. It is said that there are also signs of a large number of Red Bandits mobilized in the direction of Kharkov, and we must pay attention!"

Krasnov looked at him and asked, "Add to pay attention?" He said, sneering, and asked, "How to pay attention?"

"Your troops should no longer act alone, we must be in a group... without orders from superiors, we should not take risks anymore!"

Krasnov thought to himself, "Go to your grandma!" You told me that the Red Army in the direction of Kharkov was not honest. What does this mean? It means that the Red Army has begun to tighten the encirclement. How could I continue to stay in Donetsk and Lugansk for death?

Before Jidrihus said this, Krasnov was really hesitant and considered whether to retreat. Now, he had no intention of hesitation at all. He was determined to take Mirerovo and run away quickly.

So is the Red Army really tightening the encirclement and tying its pockets? It should be said that it is not. Although from the overall strategic concept, it does have this intention. However, it is obvious that the situation does not allow it. The food and ammunition of Fu Longzhi's troops are not enough to support combat-level military operations, and the Red Army recruits lack training and are not fully concentrated in Moscow. In this case, even if Fu Longzhi wants to tying his pockets tightly, he is still willing but unable to do so.

The military mobilization in the direction of Kharkov and the large-scale activities of Voroshilov were more like to share the military pressure of Milerovo. After Buluhel arrived in Milerovo, the first telegram sent to Fulongzhi was for help, which clearly pointed out that the enemy he faced was quite powerful, far more than one regiment, and there might be one division or more. It would be difficult to hold on to Milerovo just by relying on the strength of the First Machine Gun Regiment.

Moreover, the telegram sent by Buluheer to Fu Longzhi also pointed out the most critical point - the enemy has a lot of troops. Even if his troops can defend Milerovo, they are unable to prevent the enemy from escaping to the east. If this happens, he can do nothing.

This article made Fu Longzhi very nervous. The task assigned to him by the central government was to annihilate the White Army in the areas near Donetsk and Lugansk. He also emphasized to him that the enemy must not be allowed to escape to the direction of the Volga River.

If Buluheer made the decision and the White Army ran away like this, then Fu Longzhi really couldn't bear the responsibility. However, he couldn't invest more troops in Milerovo. Even if there was one, it would take time to rush over. In desperation, he could only let Voroshilov come forward to disrupt the situation.

He held the White Army as much as possible in Luhansk and distracted them as much as possible. This is the only one he could help Buluheer.

At that time, the telegram sent by Fulongzhi to Voroshilov seemed so helpless and tragic: "...The comrades in the Red Ten Army fighting in Lugansk and Donetsk, you must play a more important role in the attack of the White Bandits. As the first barrier for the Red Army to fight against the White Bandits. It is your duty to stop, delay the advancement and transfer of the White Army, restrain as much as possible, and weaken the enemy. The Soviets and the Party need you to prove your value with courage and sacrifice!"

Of course, Fu Longzhi was not just trying to find a solution in other directions. The regiment of Buluheer was indeed too few. The most fundamental way was to immediately draw troops to support him. From receiving the telegram for help, Fu Longzhi waited restlessly by the phone all day long, and asked his staff every now and then: "How is it? How long will it take to reinforce Buluheer's troops to set off?"

The central government's orders and Mirerovo's severe situation put him on a heavy psychological burden. The direction of the battle was largely in his hands, and it was impossible to be careless at all!

At the Paveletsk Railway Station in Moscow, a total of 100 tons of ammunition, food and medicine were piled up there, and the only thing to wait was the rescue troops. Fulongzhi decided to send his best troops over, and the Peterpapulov regiment was coming from the direction of Lezhev, and as soon as they arrived, they immediately headed to Milerovo.

At three o'clock in the afternoon, Grigori Ivanovich and his young men finally arrived in Moscow. Vronzhi personally met him: "...Comrade Grigori Ivanovich, Milerovo is waiting for your troops, which has become a key node that determines the direction of the battlefield... I ask you to move forward at full speed and cooperate with Comrade Buluhell to guard it for me, and do not let the White Army escape in the direction of the Volga River! I wish you a victory to complete the task, and I look forward to your good news!"

After listening to Fu Longzhi's bitter nagging, Grigori Ivanovich took his troops and set off along the railway, and his troops were transported directly to Lisky. The railway line was not easy to go further. After Karekin fled, Krasnov took his remnants to the lower reaches of the Don River, destroying the railway line along the way. This journey could only be achieved by horses and legs.

In April, the Don River thawed as the land came. With the arrival of the spring flood season, it almost turned into a marsh country. The road that had just experienced the baptism of the light rain in the morning made the soldiers of the Peter Papulov regiment miserable. Every now and then, a carriage was trapped in the quagmire. After working hard to get them out, in less than ten minutes, I had to continue this extremely wasteful physical labor.

While Grigori Ivanovich and his young men were fighting against the muddy roads, Milerovo's battle continued, and the battle around the city center continued until the evening of that day. The Red Army and the White Army conducted repeated tug-of-war near the square before the railway station. Kurnikov's troops were twice broken through the defense line and were almost driven back to the railway station. Fortunately, Buluhell drew a reserve team in time and used several fierce and timely counterattacks to stabilize the already precarious front.

However, the good luck near the railway station did not pass to the Red Army troops west of the city. The 2nd Company of the Third Battalion, which was stationed in the area, encountered considerable trouble. At five o'clock that afternoon, 10 white armored vehicles rushed in with infantry near a battalion and began to attack the first battalion from the side to defend the railway station.

When Bouluheer heard the news, he slapped the news and said, "Why did you put the White Army in? Where is Alexander (the commander of the Third Battalion)? I want to shoot him!"

But even though he was angry, Buluheer immediately calmed down. He knew very well that he must stay awake at such a critical moment. Panic in encountering trouble is the biggest taboo of a commander!

Buluhell immediately ordered the reserve team to turn to the third battalion, ordering them to repel the White Army and ensure the safety of the flanks of the first battalion. The sound of artillery in the west of the city did not stop overnight, and the two sides fought repeatedly around every street and every house. The extremely cruel street battle that was only found in the Stalingrad defense battle was staged in Milerovo more than 20 years in advance.

Krasnov was surprised to find that his opponent was becoming more and more tenacious and good at fighting. Even if he invested a whole division of troops, he could not gain the upper hand. His enemies occupied the corners of the streets and the ruins of the houses as defense support, and used cold guns, cold cannons, grenades and unexpected roundabout tactics to make his troops dizzy.

The White Army soldiers were very uncomfortable with this fighting style. They were more accustomed to squatting in the trenches and shooting, or waiting for their artillery to destroy the enemy's defense line and rush up to get a bargain. Now, they could only watch their opponents move forward secretly at the other end of the block, digging the trenches and preparing for the next counterattack.

Anywhere can be a battlefield, anywhere can be a position, and even enemies may suddenly come out. Such a battle makes them nervous and makes them panic.

When the battle went to the morning of the third day, the victory that Krasnov expected still did not come, and what's worse, with the consumption of two days, the greatest advantage he had - the artillery, was greatly weakened.

First of all, the ammunition was almost over. Every shell of the White Army was counted. Without the support of the industrial base, their ammunition was cut off by one shot and one shot less. After two days of consumption, Krasnov's cannon basically became a decoration.

What made Buluheer happy was not only the opponent's cannons dumb, but also the excitement was that the fierce battle allowed the soldiers to grow up quickly. Their combat methods were no longer limited to the shallow things in training. They understood a lot... The soldiers were no longer satisfied with being passively beaten. They penetrated many reconnaissance teams in the direction of the main attack of the White Army. They were usually young and strong veterans with rich combat experience. They used night or buildings as cover, approached the White Army's defense line without showing any silence, and observed and harassed the enemy at a very close distance. For these brave Red Army scouts, no praise would make people feel that it was too much.

However, the stalemate and tug-of-war continued. Krasnov was determined to take Mirerovo. He continued to throw his troops into this small town, and the battle was increasingly developing in a cruel and bloody direction.

The two sides compete for each house one by one, and more often they can fight in the kitchen and bedroom of a house. White soldiers holding cigarettes and Red Army men holding daggers in their arms often meet inadvertently. Next, it depends on who is quick. Those who can raise their guns first may not survive. Only by throwing out grenades first is the king!

Overall, the battle situation was still unfavorable to Buluheer. With its great military advantage, the White Army adopted a step-by-step oppressive style that made it difficult for Buluheer's young man to continue for a long time, and could only gradually shrink towards the north of the city.

Alexey, a somewhat self-righteous regiment political commissar, kept criticizing this kind of "coward" behavior, believing that the soldiers were not determined and strong enough, which embarrassed the Red Army. However, the commander on the front line replied: "Comrade Political Commissar, as long as you can find a young man in my army who is not injured or can jump around, I will shoot him with my own hands right away!"

Many years later, the guards of Buluhull recalled the situation at that time and said, "Comrade Buluhull and we all know that it is very difficult to maintain the existing position. If reinforcements do not arrive faster, our collapse will only be a matter of time."
