182 The Solution to the Czech Legion Problem (Part 1)
Thomas Masarik, this person's status in Czechoslovakia's history is not very important. As the head of the founding three founding fathers of Czechoslovakia, he was respected as the founding father of Czechoslovakia, gained independence from the rule of the Austro-Hungarian Empire and made outstanding contributions.
From the perspective of the Czechoslovak people, this person is a hero of the nation. But from Li Xiaofeng's perspective, Masarik is not so cute. His efforts to strive for national independence and independence are undoubtedly commendable, but the means he used in it greatly harmed the interests of the Russian people.
As the chairman of the Czechoslovak National Committee, he arrived in Petrograd from Paris in May 1917 and was unanimously welcomed by the Czech Legion. In July, he requested the Russian Provisional Government to let the Czech Legion leave Russia and go to France. This move should be said to be without any problems, and it can be regarded as far-sighted.
Because he clearly saw that the situation in Russia may undergo major changes, and it is very likely that the Russians will withdraw from this world war. Once the Russians withdraw from the war, the fate of the Czech legion that stays in Russia to participate in the war will be very difficult to say. Therefore, the wisest way is to quickly jump out of the mud pit of Russia.
Unfortunately, for various reasons, Masarik's proposal was not realized. By the outbreak of the October Revolution, the Czech Legion remained in Russia. This was an important turning point!
In January 1918, negotiations with Germany were underway in Russia. And at the most noisy time, the Bolsheviks had contact with Masarik. For Lenin, the right to self-determination was his important revolutionary idea, so he understood the wishes of the Czechoslovaks and was willing to let the Czech Legion leave Russia smoothly.
However, it was obvious that Masarik was not very concerned about this at that time. Before the negotiations with the Bolsheviks on the way the Czech Legion left Russia were over, he hurried to Vladivostok with a pseudonym and then went to the United States through Japan.
Why did Masarik leave so hurry? Why couldn't wait to leave Russia before the negotiations were over? There was only one answer. The Czechoslovak National Committee headed by him had already smelled a little other smell. They had already realized the hostility of Britain, France and the United States towards Soviet Russia. This hostile attitude is an opportunity for Czechoslovakia!
Why do you say so? The reason is very simple. As an oppressed nation in the Austro-Hungarian Empire, if Czechoslovakia wants independence, it must look at the faces of Britain, France and the United States. Especially when the United States participates in the war and the allied group is defeated. If Czechoslovakia wants to gain corresponding political status after the war is over, it must prove its value.
The Russian revolution is the best opportunity to prove the political value of Czechoslovakia. Masarik believes that catering to the needs of Britain, France and the United States and using the Czech legion as a pawn of the anti-Bolsheviks can bring enough political benefits to the future reborn Czechoslovakia!
This has also been proven in history. After the Czechoslovak National Committee and Soviet Russia reached an agreement in Penza that the Czech Legion traveled through Siberia as a civilian and then went to France to participate in the war through Panama. Masarik and Benes, among the founding three fathers of Czechoslovakia, secretly reached a political deal with Britain and France, and agreed to the Czech Legion to carry out an anti-Soviet coup while traveling through Siberia.
On May 14, Benes, who later succeeded Masarik as the second president of Czechoslovakia, signed an agreement with the British government, claiming that "the Czech Legion's actions in Siberia were part of the Allied Group of Interference in the Soviet Union and an extension of their obligation to participate in the war on the Western Front." In return, the British government promised that after defeating the German-Austrian group, the Czechoslovak Republic had a say in the peace meeting to resolve the Russian issue.
Look, how interesting things are. The political elites who have been pursuing independence in Czechoslovakia have achieved their goals without hesitation by harming the interests of other people's people. This is simply a natural difference from their previous cry of injustice and grievances. If one word is used to describe these grandchildren, it is not moral.
What is the problem with Russia about Czechoslovakia? Did Russia have hatred with Czechoslovakia in history? Anyway, Li Xiaofeng despises the Czechoslovak political elites led by Masarik and Benes.
Of course, it is not an unscrupulous way to despise them. After all, according to Lenin's point of view, the purpose of these goods can be considered noble. For the sake of national independence and freedom, many people with lofty ideals can sacrifice their lives. What is shameless?
What Li Xiaofeng really despised these guys was that they completely pinned their hopes for national independence and freedom on a group of robbers. The statement that later generations evaluated the revolution in Guofa Sun in his early years was to use warlords to defeat the warlords, and the final result was that the fruits of the revolution were stolen by warlords.
The experience of Czechoslovakia also illustrates this point. They used the three major robbers in Britain, France and the United States to defeat the Austro-Hungarian robbers who were powerful in their early years. However, when the new Nazi German robbers grew stronger and began to threaten the interests of British and French robbers, poor Czechoslovakia was given to the new robbers as gifts by Britain and France, and without any resistance, they became slaves of the country.
To add, he did nothing, bowed to Nazi Germany, signed the Munich Agreement, and ruined Czechoslovakia like a clown, was the famous founding three founding fathers. Masarik was a little lucky and was hilarious before the incident. The person who signed the traitorous treaty was Benes who had previously reached a secret deal with the British.
Of course, this was not the last time Benes was "forced" to sign a "traitorous treaty". After World War II, he still made the Soviet Union a guarantee country for Czechoslovakia. This elite once again attempted to use a new robber to oppose the old robber.
Is the result? The whole world saw that Czechoslovakia finally became a vassal of the Soviet Union. The puppets supported by the Soviet Union controlled the country until the collapse of the Soviet gangsters. Then Czechoslovakia split into two independent countries, and then once again defected to the British, French, American, NATO group until now.
Li Xiaofeng despised the Czechs who liked to find their godfathers, and even more disgusted with the damage they caused to Russia in order to achieve their political goals. To be honest, if it weren't for their sudden attack, the Russian civil war would not have been fought for three years. It was these troublemakers who caught the Bolsheviks off guard and made the situation uncontrollable.
This is no joke. After the October Revolution, the Bolsheviks once put down a series of rebellions launched by Karekin and the Social Revolutionary Party, and initially controlled the situation in the country. If they proceeded step by step, the White Army's power would not expand so quickly.
It was the Czechoslovak Legion that suddenly launched a rebellion on May 25, 1918, and tens of thousands of troops occupied important cities along the Siberian Railway in one fell swoop, completely separating the entire Siberia or the eastern part of Russia from the western part. It gave the Social Revolutionary Party, the Cadet Party and the old military forces a base for the return of the forces of the forces of the former officers. Then, with the assistance of Britain, France, the United States and Japan, they once gained great advantages on the battlefield, and almost wiped out the Bolsheviks and the Soviets.
So on the issue of the Czech Legion, Li Xiaofeng advocated tough measures. At the enlarged meeting of the Czech Legion held in Petrograd, he said: "Although there is no clear evidence yet. The Czech Legion will act as a pawn for the British, French, American and Japanese groups to interfere in our internal affairs. But from all signs and omens, this possibility exists... So I suggest that in how to deal with the Czech Legion, we must minimize the threat and not let them cause damage to our revolution!"
What Lenin wanted to hear was not such a big speech. What he wanted to know more was whether someone had a definite evidence that could prove that the Czech Legion had such an attempt.
"I can't take out the evidence for the time being," Li Xiaofeng spread his hands, but he immediately said: "But there are many signs and signs that must be worthy of vigilance! According to the information I received, Masarik, chairman of the Czechoslovak National Committee, had left Petrograd, arrived in Japan not long ago, and had contacted the French ambassador to Japan. Although what the two sides talked about was not known for the time being, he soon boarded a passenger ship to the United States."
Speaking of this, he paused for a moment, looked at the faces of Lenin and others, and then continued: "I think he has probably completed contact with the governments of Britain, France and Japan and reached a secret agreement. The reason why he went to the United States immediately was probably to reach the same agreement with the US government!"
Trotsky suddenly interrupted and asked, "Then what agreement do you think they have reached?"
Li Xiaofeng took a breath and said, "I can only think that Masarik is preparing to act as a pawn for the Allies to interfere in our revolution."
"This is ridiculous!" Bukharin stood up and asked with a sneer: "I think you are misleading the central government. I think the reason why Masarik contacted the British, French and Japanese governments was just to let the Czech army leave our country as soon as possible... This is because the central government had agreed to the German extortion and treason for the war, which aroused the vigilance of the Czechoslovak National Committee. Unlike some of our comrades who hold a surrenderist view, the Czechoslovak National Committee was willing to fight against the German-Austrian imperialist group to the end in order to fight for national independence!"
Bukharin really said three words to the bank. At the emergency meeting of the Central Committee held earlier, his proposal was ruthlessly denied. If nothing unexpected happens, the Treaty of Brest will be adopted by the Central Committee and will officially take effect on March 1.
Now, there is really not much time left for him, and Bukharin must seize all time and opportunities to implement his proposals. Therefore, at this specially convened central enlarged meeting, he had to go off topic from the beginning and to bring the topic to the treaty.
However, it was too difficult for him to want a wish. Big guys like Lenin and Trotsky were staring at him. How could he allow him to do whatever he wanted? And it didn't take action either of them. Even Li Xiaofeng could make Bukharin drink a pot.
"I can only say that you take it for granted!" Li Xiaofeng laughed and asked, "If it were just to allow the Czech Legion to leave our country smoothly, would Masarik have sneakily changed his name? We did not restrict his freedom in life, and the party's attitude has always been clear. Respect the right of self-determination of all ethnic groups and are actively communicating with the Czechoslovak National Committee to find ways to solve this problem. In this case, not only did he not actively communicate with us, but he rushed to Japan and the United States behind us. Is this normal?"
Speaking of this, Li Xiaofeng suddenly raised his voice and said loudly: "Masarik's behavior can only tell us a message that he is ready to make a transaction with the Allies behind us. And this transaction is definitely not conducive to our party and the revolution!"
Li Xiaofeng's words were loud and loud. Even Trotsky, who was not very good at dealing with him, nodded frequently to agree. Buharin felt even more uncomfortable. He did not accept such a result and continued to resist unnecessary: "This is just your guess!"
Li Xiaofeng nodded and replied with a "generous" attitude, "Yes, it's indeed a guess, but this is a speculation based on objective facts. I think in today's extremely complex revolutionary situation, it is necessary for us to be vigilant. We do not intend to harm the interests of other people, but we must also beware of some sinister enemies plotting against us!"
Bukharin immediately sneered again: "Then tell me, how should you be vigilant? Just because of your random thoughts, we will disarm the Czech Legion and imprison them? Absurd!"
Li Xiaofeng shook his head and said, "I didn't say that. We can't do it for the time being, let alone disarming the Czech Legion for now. And even if we can do it, we can't do it so impatiently. Doing so will only trigger the rebound of the Czech Legion, and under the agitation of some conspirators, it will cause big problems!"
This made Lenin and Trotsky nod frequently. At first they were also wondering whether Li Xiaofeng wanted to take tough measures to solve the problem. To be honest, they would not agree to do this. Not to mention that someone has no definite evidence, even if there is evidence, they cannot attack the Czech Legion in a hurry. This legion is not small (more than 50,000 people) and its combat effectiveness is still relatively strong. Once they are angered, the consequences are unpredictable.
So when someone stated that he was not going to take tough measures, at least not to do so for the time being, Lenin and Trotsky believed that this was indeed a conspiracy. And they also wanted to know what means someone wanted to solve this problem.
"Tell me what you think!" Lenin encouraged.
"My opinion is to focus on prevention for the time being!"
Before coming, Li Xiaofeng thought about this issue carefully. At first, he did plan to take tough measures, but he soon gave up because the mentor would probably not agree. Moreover, with the current military force of the Bolsheviks, it was really impossible to get it. So for the time being, he could only endure it and accumulate strength first and focus on prevention. Anyway, they officially launched a rebellion, and there is still two months left to prepare.
"First of all, we should strengthen our publicity work and explain to the soldiers of the Czech Legion the reasons why we withdraw from this war and prevent them from being instigated by conspirators..."
Don’t underestimate this. In history, the important excuse for Masarik to incite the rebellion of the Czech legion was: “Russia withdrew from the war and sold off its allies, thus threatening the independence of Czechoslovakia… In order to ensure the independence of Czechoslovakia, the Bolsheviks must be overthrown!”
Lenin thought for a while and said, "This suggestion is very good. We really need to explain our ideas to the Czech Legion. We must let them understand the real reason why our country withdraws from this war..." As he said that, he turned to Trotsky, "This work must be you, Comrade Lev Davedovic, I hope you can do the ideological work of the Czech Legion in person..."
It should be said that it is very appropriate to hand over this work to Trotsky. Don't mention Lao Tuo's eloquence. He could make German prisoners of war support him in a convincing manner in Canada. I believe it was not particularly difficult to convince the Czechs.
After the first suggestion was accepted, Li Xiaofeng's confidence became more and more confident. He continued with confidence: "Secondly, we must pay attention to the movements of the Czechoslovak National Committee and be wary of their contact with the Allies. Even if we reach an agreement with them, we must not be careless. In particular, we must pay attention that once they ask to detour Japan to return to Europe through Siberia, they must hand over their weapons before they can pass through Siberia!"
Trotsky asked in surprise: "Why?"
Li Xiaofeng said seriously: "The influence of our party is still very weak in Siberia, or the entire Eastern region. And it must be seen that due to the war, our country's main military forces are all concentrated in the West. The military forces in Siberia are very weak. To put it bluntly, it is simply a vacuum! If more than 50,000 well-equipped Czech legions launch a rebellion there, the consequences will be unimaginable!"
Before Li Xiaofeng finished speaking, he said in a worried tone: "And it must be seen that in the East, the Allies, especially Japan, are relatively powerful. If the Czech Legion launches a rebellion, it will be easy to get the Allies' assistance!"
There was a buzzing sound in the conference room, and the Central Committee members kept whispering to each other. They listened to Li Xiaofeng's warning sincerely, because this possibility exists completely. Once the Czech Legion launches a rebellion and there is aid from the Allies behind it, it will cause a chain reaction.
After a brief silence, Stalin was the first to ask: "Comrade Andre, how do you think we should solve this hidden danger?"
