451 Advanced Power Fighter (Part 1)
Modesh died and was shot dead in the cockpit before the crash. His body was soon found by nearby Red Army soldiers. At first, the Red Army soldiers did not know that they had found a "big man", but his colonel uniform attracted the attention of the soldiers. Soon the body was handed over to NKVD who rushed to the news, and then Modesh's identity was revealed to the world.
Soon this news attracted the attention of the Military Commission. After all, Modes is a big star that the Germans continue to promote, and in the words of later generations, he is also considered a superhero. Killing the enemy's superhero is undoubtedly a major benefit. It can not only boost morale but also attack the enemy. It is worthy of a big book!
But a problem soon broke out. Who shot Modes killed? The Germans firmly refused to admit that Modes was killed by the Red Army, and they did not even admit that Modes was dead. The Red Army was fighting over the fat piece of Modes. The Army believed that Modes was shot by their field anti-aircraft guns, and made up a story in a serious way.
The Air Force scoffed at this, and they directly exposed the army's trick: "Within a radius of twenty kilometers in the Motex crash site, your army does not have a single anti-aircraft gun, and witnesses on the ground have proved that Modez was shot down in air combat, so this result belongs to the Air Force!"
The Air Force soon announced that they had found the hero who shot down Modes, the son of a senior Air Force general. The young man was handsome and stylish. Coupled with his old man's background bonus, this was the most suitable candidate for the Air Force.
Well, the Air Force actually couldn't figure out who shot down Modes, because there were many air combat in this airspace at that time, and there were also many records of shooting down, which was a mess anyway.
Soon the Air Force reported this great victory to ask for merit, but what they didn't expect was that the criticism and ridicule of the Military Commission was bad. Li Xiaofeng said directly: "The Air Force wants to grab the credit because he wants to be crazy!"
Why? I didn’t say that Tariel’s organizational relationship has been transferred to the Lone Wolf Squadron under kgb. It has no relationship with the Air Force, so the result is kgb!
Of course the Air Force was not convinced. They retorted: "A group of cancers and thorns who fought alone could shoot down Modes, which is simply a joke. It's obvious that you kgb wants to grab the credit!"
However, when Li Xiaofeng threw out the evidence, the Air Force and the Army did not dare to speak. The so-called evidence was the photo taken by Tariel's camera gun in the air battle, which clearly recorded the complete process of the shooting down of Modez's landline. This is impossible to fake it!
But the next question comes again. How to promote Tariel? One of the children is sensitive to identity, and his devil is a thorn in the hearts of ******* and *************. They don’t want to mention it at all. On the other hand, this maverick personality and past history with a wide range of bad deeds. If everyone learns from him, it will be a nightmare for the Red Army.
Once, **************** had the idea of erasing Tariel's achievements. It would be better to admit that it was shot down by the Air Force and find a real role model to promote it. It is so simple and convenient. However, this opinion was firmly resisted by Li Xiaofeng, Lenin and Trotsky. These three people thought it would be better to seek truth from facts. Anyway, Tariel had changed its name, so it would be fine without mentioning his background. As for his personality, can he not accept praise even if he had bad personality and credit? What is this?
Under the strong opposition of these three, ************* had to surrender and awarded Tariel the title of Soviet hero and the Medal of Venus against his will. However, their original "Advanced Deeds" report meeting on how to blow the snail was announced to be cancelled. Tariel's personality is really not suitable for this set.
Tariel finally won the honor he deserved, and his glorious record is worthy of writing, but Li Xiaofeng was not interested in it. He was not even particularly happy. The reason was very simple. After entering October 1943 on the air battlefield, he showed more and more bad signs. The fighter jets of the Red Air Force were gradually losing their technical advantages, and the German army had gradually caught up and completed the overtake.
Since October, Red Army pilots cannot rely on the gap in flight performance to overwhelm the Germans. The new B-109 and -190 are gradually overwhelming the Red Army's Lager and Jacques. Soviet aircraft designers must work harder.
It was this month that Li Xiaofeng specially held an equipment work meeting of the Military Commission, calling for the acceleration of the research and development of new fighter jets and that better fighter jets must be produced as soon as possible. Otherwise, the Air Force will fall into a passive position in the future.
This conference sounded a wake-up call for the Soviet aircraft designers, especially Lavochkin and Yakovlev. These two were the most active fighter jet designers in the Red Army. Li Xiaofeng was dissatisfied with the technical performance of the active fighter jets. It was equivalent to being dissatisfied with the two of them. The dissatisfaction of the boss of **** was a disaster for a design bureau.
Soon the two started their actions. Lavochikin had the fastest move. He had just finished the design of La-7, and immediately designed La-9 based on La-7. Using all-metal structure and laminar flow wings, the Bila-7 has been improved overall, especially the range has been greatly improved.
In November 1943, the prototype of La V9 began to test flights. The Air Force was quite satisfied with the La V9, but the La V7 had just started mass production, so it seemed too hasty to switch to production of La V9, so the Air Force decided to let La Vocchikin continue to improve the La V9 and strive to squeeze out the final potential of the La V9 series.
Lavochkin made a good start and took the lead, which was quite proud. Because he heard that his old rival Yakovlev was not satisfactory in improving the Jacques-3, it seemed that there was no progress at all. Apart from preparing to replace the VK-108 engine with a larger power, there was almost no action in the aerodynamics.
This made Lavochkin a little proud, feeling that he would fight a turnaround in the next round of competition, but Lavochkin couldn't laugh after a while. The reason was simple, and Alqueznis told him a very unexpected news: "The new generation of high-end fighters must use jet power!"
This news shocked Lavochkin. His pull series has been holding the ash-82n engine tightly since the pull-5, and to the pull-9 and even the pull-11 behind it, they are improved versions of this engine. They have never intended to use a jet engine, and now this sudden request caught him off guard because it means he has to overturn all the original design and start from scratch.
The worse news is that Lavochkin also heard that his old rival Yakovlev did not continue to explore the potential of the Jacques-3 because he is designing a brand new jet fighter Yakov4.
Well, Lavochkin knew that he was behind again. He quickly threw away the La-9 and began to develop a brand new La-10. In fact, the La-10 cannot be said to be a brand new fighter. It is actually a hybrid freak, that is, a Vrdk ramjet engine is added to the La-9. To put it bluntly, this is a hybrid fighter.
In fact, it was not only the Soviet Union that used this so-called hybrid engine, but the United States also used it, such as Ryan's R-1 Fireball Hybrid Fighter. However, unlike its American counterparts, the Soviet Union's hybrid fighter was quite special. The Vrdk ramjet engine of the L-10 did not have the ability to use it alone. It had to rely on the front ash-82n engine to do work and use a slender transmission shaft to input the power to the Vrdk. It was only its function that it could drive its work.
The La-10 equipped with this hybrid power cannot be considered a pure jet aircraft, and its performance is quite reasonable. So why did Lavochkin do this? The reason is very simple. On the one hand, it is so simple that it does not need to overturn the basic design of the La-7. It can be used just by installing a Vrdk engine at the rear. Second, it is that the Soviet Union's jet power was actually not mature at the time, and there were a lot of problems.
For example, the old rival of Lavochkin, Yakovlev, had encountered a lot of engine problems, and in the end, its pre-installed engine simply dismounted, forcing Yakovlev to install another jet-powered Jakov5.
This taught Lavochikin a lesson. He felt that the steps were too big and it was easy to get the ball, so he simply took small steps and seized the "market" with a simple and mature engine. He first took a good position.
In fact, there were many people who had the same idea as Lavochkin back then, such as MiG Design Bureau, Migoyan and Glevic were unlucky before and did nothing. Now, they heard that the new generation of fighter jets were about to be replaced, so they quickly followed. For the same reasons as Lavochkin, they also chose the Vrdk line and developed the La-10 twin brother MiG-13 hybrid fighter.
In this time and space, the battle for Soviet jet fighters first started between Lavochikin and MiG. Of course, there were no follow-up competitors, such as Yakovlev and Sukhoi.
The battle for advanced fighter jets was going ups and downs, and it was once full of twists and turns. Let's talk about it slowly. As mentioned earlier, Yakovlev was pitted by the engine and had to give up the original Jacques-4 and instead develop the Jacques-5 using the rd-1 engine. At that time, Yakovlev also found that his progress was lagging behind his old rival Lavochkin, so he also thought of a way to save money and develop the Jacques-5 based on the original Jacques-3.
Let me put it this way, the so-called Jacques-5 is to replace the Jacques-3's VK-107 engine with the rd-1 turbojet engine, which is the product of a new wine in an old bottle.
Don't say that you are the simplest and fastest, it's almost impossible to make it so easy. Yakovlev saved up the Jacques-5. The prototype test flight was even faster than the La-10 and MiG-13 in the front. The Jacques-5 was still quite stable. After changing to jet power, its performance was greatly improved than the Jacques-3. The maximum speed can reach 786 kilometers per hour, and even the cruise speed is 700 kilometers per hour. The only thing that is dissatisfied is that its range is even more tragic than the Jacques-3, and it looks only 600 kilometers. It is considered a veritable defender of the airport defender.
When this plan was put on Li Xiaofeng's desk, a certain immortal was also amused and laughed, because this Jacques-5 was simply the Jacques-15 in history, and it was exactly the same. The Jacques-15 back then was the first jet aircraft of the Soviet Union, and this Jacques-5 was also the no.1 of the current Soviet Union.
Li Xiaofeng did not like the Jacques-15 in history, nor did he like the Jacques-5 now. In his opinion, this short-legged thing is useful? So at the beginning, he did not approve the Jacques-5's service, but ordered Yakovlev to take out his real skills and not to go around the place.
Just as Jacques-5 was testing, another designer, Sukhoi, who was not particularly lucky, also devoted himself to the research and development of new fighter jets. But what is interesting is that Sukhoi also fell into the hybrid pit at the beginning. The Sukhoi designed it uses the VK-107a engine to drive a je ramjet engine, which belongs to the same path as the MiG-13 and the La-10.
However, this is indeed not a good way. Because the ramjet driven by a piston engine cannot work for a long time (the Vrdk can only work for ten minutes and eight minutes), it is generally only used for takeoff or acceleration for a short time. It is really not very meaningful.
So when the treasures developed by these three designers were placed in front of Li Xiaofeng, a fairy said that they were not disappointed, and that was fake. What's the use of these garbage? So he sentenced Su-5, La-10 and MiG-13 to death with a big stroke and dismounted. Then he set a dead frame for the new Soviet fighter jets, with the maximum speed not less than 800 kilometers per hour, and must be pure jet power.
As the Nazi jet fighter me-262 was put into service and the US military's more and more strategic bombers, the Soviet Union did need a usable jet fighter. Therefore, the Jacques-5, which had dismounted before, was resurrected and increased the fuselage size according to Li Xiaofeng's requirements. After adding more fuel tanks, use it first as the Jacques-15.
The Jacques-15 is a little bigger than the original Jacques-5, with a maximum speed of 730 kilometers per hour and a maximum range of 900 kilometers. It is equipped with an rd-1o engine. It has been produced in August 1944. In terms of its performance, it is much worse than the Me-262 (after all, the Jacques-15 only has one engine). After the production of 150 Jacques-15, the improved version of the Jacques-17 was put into production. After about 300 of them were produced, it was replaced by the winners of the real Soviet advanced power fighter project.
Let me put it this way, it was from that time that Yakovlev became all loose, with fighter jets being developed in an average way, and attack aircraft being equal. The bomber was still average, and in passenger aircraft transport aircraft projects, and in the end, he could only "exploit the remaining energy" in the field of train aircraft that he was best at. Gradually, he was left farther and farther by MiG and Sukhoi.
Continuing to return to the previous advanced power fighter project, after all three hybrid fighters were dismounted, Sukhoi first withdrew from the competition because this person had a new job, which was to develop a newer attack aircraft to replace the Il-2.
In fact, in history, Sukhoi designed Sukhoi also occupied a certain share in the Soviet attack aircraft field, but compared with the Il-2, it was too far behind. The reason why the Su-2 in history was not armored was that its engine power was not enough, Tumansky's m-88b was only 1,100 horsepower. And the Mikulin am-38 of the Il-2 had 1,600 horsepower, which was a fraction of the difference.
However, Sukhoi was not convinced in history or in this time and space. He always wanted to win back. For this reason, he worked hard to develop the Su-6 attack aircraft. In terms of aircraft performance, the Su-6 equipped with the ash-71 engine is better than the improved version of the Il-10 of the Il-2. But why did the Il-10 continue to win in history?
There are two reasons. The first is that Sukhoi offended Comrade Iron. After Petlyakov died in the plane crash, Stalin hoped that Sukhoi would take over Petlyakov's work, but Sukhoi refused to say that he had to consider it. This naturally made the great leader furious and quickly replaced him with Miasishev, and he disliked Sukhoi very much from then on. This emotion naturally brought to the competition between Su-6 and Il-10.
Originally, Comrade Steel didn't like Sukhoi and Il-2 prefer, and Il-10 looked very much like Il-2. Tell me, with the intervention of the leader's will, does Sukhoi have a chance?
Of course, the more important reason for Sukhoi's failure is the engine. The ash-71 engine used by the Su-6 was the star engine with the largest power in the Soviet Union (2400 horsepower), but this unlucky engine is also a huge pit in the history of Soviet aviation. The unlucky people who fell into it include Sukhoi, Polykapov, and Ileutian. Anyway, who touched and died of the ash-71, no exception!
Of course, this is a historical situation. In this time and space, because the intervention of a certain immortal by ash-71 is not so pitiful, Sukhoi's Su-6 was born smoothly. Sukhoi, who is busy with Su-6, naturally has no time to care about the jet fighter project. So the final competition begins between Lavochikin and MiG.
Lavochikin does have two brushes. On the one hand, it is improving the La-9 and pre-researching the final La-11 series of Piston fighters, and it still has the energy to develop the La-15 jet fighter.
Migoyan and Glevic fought against each other. They had failed too many times, and they really had no spare energy and no conditions to fail again, because this was their last chance. After working day by day, MiG, which had fewer tasks, took the lead first. This is the MiG-9 fighter.
However, it is better to laugh to the end than laughing. As a jet fighter, the MiG-9 was not successful. First, the straight wings generate shock waves when approaching the speed of sound, which greatly increases the flight resistance and limits the flight speed. Furthermore, the large-caliber aerial cannon has a small load, and the gun recoil is large and the accuracy is poor. What's more serious is that the muzzle protrudes in front of the air inlet. Each time the engine fires, it will swallow a lot of smoke and cause stopping; in addition, its combat radius is also relatively small, only 400 kilometers, which is to say later: "can only defend the walls of the airport in its own way." (To be continued.)
ps: Bow to thank the waste man, the king of finishing the knife, the glorious charter and comrade Juventus!
