Chapter 8 "Rebirth"

The story of "Rebirth" is not long, and it is easy to write short science fiction novels for Xu Zhou.

The story takes place in 2130, an era that will be in the next ten years than it is now. The protagonist Jonah works on the moon. If you want to talk about Jonah’s most troublesome thing, it is the commuting back and forth.

Because the moon's living conditions are limited, peripheral employees like Jonah must travel from Earth to the moon once a week, and each time it takes a whole day.

"I really want to vomit when I sit in this public spacecraft, man, I can't hold on."

"There is no way, you can't lose your work, so stick to it."

Similar complaints happened almost every commute until one day when a spacecraft full of employees exploded and hundreds of people died in the accident.

After this accident, more and more people began to oppose this inefficient commuting method, and Jonah was still scared. If he had been queuing one day late, he might have died in that accident.

In response to the protests of the employees, the boss finally decided to invest a huge amount of money in the long-distance commuting method and develop new equipment. From now on, the disgusting long-distance commuting that took a whole day was replaced. Jonah only needed to enter a closed secret room at the beginning of the earth. When he opened his eyes the next second, he would come to the moon.

"This is really great, ultra-time travel! Can our technology already use space wormholes?" Jonah asked another colleague beside her who had just walked out of the secret room with surprise.

"Who knows, maybe it's a wormhole, otherwise why would we arrive at the moon in an instant?" The colleague spread his hands, and he didn't know the principle of teleportation.

Although the employees were puzzled, they also liked the current efficient commuting method, but the principle of traffic is highly confidential. No one knew how this machine connecting the instantaneous passage of the earth and the moon operated.

Jonah didn't care. For him, it was the best thing to do if he didn't have to ride the ragged and disgusting public spacecraft.

Until one day, a whistleblower revealed the truth, and Jonah's worldview collapsed at this moment.

According to the leaked content, when Jonah enters the secret room on Earth, the transmission device will scan his whole body, from hair to toes, from cells to genes, and even the number and sort of all the atoms that make up Jonah are recorded.

Then, the collected data was transmitted to another secret room of the moon through a quantum computer, and then the moon's carbon and hydrocarbons and other elements were used to restructure Jonah's body from head to toe.

This is not a wormhole at all, but a bioprinter!

After the birth of the new "Jona" on the moon, Jonah, who was originally on Earth, was instantly evaporated.

This machine kills Jonah and resurrects Jonah!

"This is impossible...man...this is impossible! I am still me, even if they kill me, how can they copy my consciousness?"

Jonah squatted on the ground with her head in her arms, her eyes widening, and he couldn't believe it was the truth.

"It's true, Jonah, you must have felt the incoherence of consciousness as much as I do. After the initial debilitating shock, consciousness will doubt the 'self'. This is the response we have been killed and reborn thousands of times!"

"It has been trance and confusion... impossible... impossible!"

"Jona! We are just a group of atoms arranged in a specific combination. Even our thoughts, feelings or memories are composed of different arrangements of neurons. After we resurrect, the arrangement of atoms is exactly the same, and the memories are exactly the same. We can even vividly recall your first love, every word she said to you."

"Then am I still me?"

"I don't know guy..."

Jonah began to question himself and the whole world. He didn't even know what way he was now in life, or strictly speaking, he could not be called natural life, he was just a complete clone of "Jona".

As for the work, there was no way to continue. His life was trapped in the biggest scam in history. This time, the deception was not to deceive his money, but to conceal his life and death state.

Jonah was hysterically angry. He felt dizzy and nauseous, his body was numb and unconscious. His past memories were his, not his. He was just a soul without belonging in this body that was exactly the same as himself.

Jonah picked up the knife and stabbed it into his heart, the coldness brought a real sting and the darkness drowned out the chaotic mind.

When he opened his eyes again, Jonah was already lying in the hospital and his wound had been healed. The first thing he said when he saw the doctor: "Who am I?"

The doctor said, "You are Jonah."

"But I was killed and reborn thousands of times! Can you understand how I feel!"

"Do you know..." The doctor said while injecting Jonah with sedatives: "Our body is undergoing cell replacement at all times, like a ship. I will change a nail today and a wooden board tomorrow. Ten years later, will that ship still be the same?"

The doctor looked at Jonah and smiled: "Clone your body and eliminate your mother's body is no different from replacing your body parts bit by bit. The difference is only the length of time. What you perceive that you have continuous experiences and memories is just a lasting hallucination, and in fact, you are no longer the one you in the previous second."

After saying that, the doctor left the ward.

Jonah gasped, perhaps the effect of the sedative, or the doctor's words, and he gradually calmed down.

Jonah accepted the fact that he was constantly killed and then reborn, and his life had to continue. The boss still retained this way of commuting, and most employees, like Jonah, could calmly accept the fact that he was killed and reborn.

Years later, Jonah's lifespan came to an end. Looking at his children beside the bed, he was not panicked about his upcoming death.

"Don't worry, death and rebirth are just a commute."

Jonah closed her eyes, her mouth slightly raised, and her smile was gentle and natural.

...

That's all the general content of the story. Xu Zhou spent about 10,000 words to perfect the script. For modern people, many emotions are not easy to feel. He must spend more writing on details and enhance the sense of substitution through details, including the dialogue between characters and the rendering of the environment. The overall style will probably be black and red tones.

Especially in the secret room, players can definitely feel the strong sense of "deception" in the play, which brings hysterical anger.

The theme of the story is deception, doubt, self-existence, and thinking about death. Jonah's emotional changes are also quite rich. She is dissatisfied with the original way of commuting and joy with the new way. Finally, she finds that it is a scam. He begins to be angry, confused, doubts himself, and finally accepts it happily...

"How is it, my story is OK." Xu Zhou said with a smile.

Ellie's emotions are richer than many modern people. After reading the script, she shrank her neck.

"My heart is pounding. After watching it, I have to doubt my existence..."

Ellie quickly forgot the script, "Xu Zhou, if it really becomes a movie world, I think you will be chased by players, it will destroy your outlook on life too much!"

Xu Zhou blinked, modern people are not so fragile...
