313 Two Visions

To be a head coach of an NFL professional team, there are two ways to do it:

The orthodox channel is the step-by-step promotion of professional teams, from assistants to specific positions to offensive/defensive coordinators, and finally the head coach.

Currently, mainstream NFL coaches have completed their upgrades in this way.

The narrow channel is to be promoted from the NCAA to the NFL, and through the wonderful command of the university arena, the great achievements are appreciated, and then win a job.

However, the NCAA relies more on talent and tactics to be second-hand in the game style, which makes coaches not have much room for performance, and they often don’t adapt to the local environment after entering the NFL.

Nick Shaban, a legendary coach who has been in the NCAA for decades, served as defensive coordinator for Cleveland Brown from 1991 to 1994; from 2005 to 2006, he served as head coach of the Miami Dolphins, but he did not have much achievements in the NFL coaching experience and performed mediocrely.

In 2007, he returned to the NCAA to serve as the head coach of the University of Alabama.

Jim Harbaugh, Chip-Kelly and other head coaches are the same. They started the NCAA field and won the opportunity of NFL head coaches with their wonderful offensive tactical dispatch. They have indeed proved their abilities.

Among them, Hubble won the league's coach of the year honors after leading the San Francisco 49ers to the Super Bowl in 2011.

But the novelty of magical magic lasted only a few seasons, and their tactics were thoroughly studied by the league, and then they fell sharply, and were soon eliminated by the NFL and returned to the NCAA coaching.

There are countless similar cases.

Since 2000, only five coaches have been promoted directly from the NCAA to the NFL head coach, and only Nick Shaban has a season-winning rate of more than 50%.

Even when counting the end of history that Lu Yiqi knew, only twelve coaches have completed leapfrog promotions, and only four of them won more than 50% of the first season, including Nick Shaban, Jim Hubble, Chip Kelly - and all three coaches have returned to the NCAA.

The other is Bill O’Brien, who started coaching Houston Texas in 2014, and he successfully stayed.

In addition to tactical challenges—

"Player contracts, free markets, hard salary caps, etc., these strange topics are all swarming in. This is a completely different level. The head coach needs to deal with more messy and trivial things outside the court; even if it is focused on the game itself, time management, game rules and interpersonal relationships, these things are definitely not that simple."

In the NCAA, prestigious universities with outstanding financial resources and sharp admissions have unique advantages. In addition, they rely more on talent to complete the game, and they often win with their victory. This is also the incredible reason why Kansas State University won the entire season - they defeated the impossible; it is also the core of Kansas State's internal interests - the admissions link can often bring unexpected effects.

However, in the NFL, the existence of hard salary caps and reverse drafts has brought the competition at the professional level very close, which has forced the coaching team to make more updates and adjustments at the tactical level. Every season is a new beginning, and similarly, every offseason must be overturned and started over again.

Most importantly, commanding a group of young people with nothing is enough to rely on their passion; but commanding a group of millionaires with families and careers is another matter.

For the head coach, the test is in all aspects.

It is precisely because of this that the mainstream view of the league always believes that the way to advance from the NCAA to the NFL is "not the right way". It is inevitable that some people look down on those head coaches who take the wrong steps. No matter how brilliant the NCAA has achieved, they will inevitably encounter discrimination and exclusion after entering the NFL.

What's more, are chicks like Lu Yiqi who only has one "magical" season?

Orthodox promotion channels are still mainstream in the league: only after gradually accumulating from assistants and being promoted to coordinator position can you see the qualifications to control the overall situation, and finally see whether the coach has the ability to become the head coach of a team. Experience and ability are irreplaceable keys in the entire process.

Of course, Lu Yiqi also has his own advantages and strengths.

The reason why Kansas State University was able to create miracles in the 2007 season was ultimately because Lu Yiqi opened the way with dazzling and complex tactics, truly transforming the game into a game of Go masters.

However, in the amateur environment of college, "student athletes" only have three days of training, and they cannot train more than three hours a day. Some schools even allow only five hours of training per week. It was in such a difficult and hard environment that Lu Yiqi polished such a wonderful tactic.

In the NFL, it is a professional environment. The head coach pulls the players to get up at 5 a.m. to train and watch game videos. This is not news at all. The training time is guaranteed for four days a week. Moreover, the only job of all players and coaches is training, and the game is game, which also means devoted.

So, can Lu Yiqi take enough time to study and train carefully? Can his tactical talent and on-site scheduling go to the next level?

Advantages and disadvantages coexist. Next, let’s see whether the advantages have the upper hand or the disadvantages have dragged the back.

Despite this, the mainstream idea of industry insiders still believes that Lu Yiqi can win the top spot only because he is "too lucky", and the so-called "playing like a professional game" is just a self-proclaimer from local media in Manhattan - after all, NCAA game videos are not popular in the NFL.

In addition, the Green Bay Packers were killed by Favre in the offseason and made a "stupid choice" in a panic. Lu Yiqi was more like a scapegoat in the transition period. After all, the training camp is about to open, and it is not possible to have a team led by the head coach. This hastily led to a situation that has fallen below everyone's glasses. The entire decision of the Packers' uniform team is not considered.

Industry insiders all revealed a kind of contempt and ridicule inside and outside, and did not take it seriously at all, and then regarded it as a joke. "Fafu is indeed unkind."

From the professional perspective of the industry, Favre's untrustworthy repeated behavior not only disrupted the off-season layout of Green Bay Packers, but also disrupted the future market of Green Bay Packers.

Rodgers symbolizes the future of the team, and Farfer's selfish considerations triggered internal strife in the team, step by step causing the Green Bay Packers to fall into a dilemma. In desperation, they could not think carefully, slowly consider it, and make mistakes in one step.

They were following Favre, Rogers, and the Packers Uniform Group, but no one paid attention to Lu Yiqi himself. The lackluster resume did not have much to discuss. Even if the entire NCAA resume was found, you could still see the head at a glance.

"There is basically no hope in the 2008 season."
