Chapter 001 Disappointment

February 21, 1989, the lunar calendar was a very ordinary day.

The northeastern lunar month is not warm yet, so you have to wear a cotton jacket when you go out. The ground has not yet melted. There are ice on the soil blocks brought out by a pickaxe.

Ju Wenqi spent a morning digging out five ridges, his arms were sore and his forehead was covered with sweat.

He didn't dare to take off his cotton jacket, for fear that he would catch a cold and have a fever and delay the problem.

He walked home with a pickaxe and wiped his sweat. As soon as he entered the village, he was stopped by his own sister Ju Ying, who lives at the head of the village.

Ju Ying pulled him and looked around like a thief. Seeing that no one looked at them, she lowered her voice and said, "Third brother, I've given birth. I gave birth to it at around 10 o'clock in the morning. My third sister-in-law is very good. Go back and make some porridge and send it to me."

Ju Wenqi's handsome face showed a little smile.

"Male or female?" he asked nervously.

Ju Wenqi's generation has four brothers and sisters, three men and one woman. He is the third one, and the first two brothers are the only sister.

Their four brothers and sisters were not born by the same mother. The eldest son Ju Wenlin and the second son Ju Wenxin's biological mother died early. Ju's father lived in widowhood for many years and married a crazy woman who came from somewhere. Later, he gave birth to Ju Wenqi and Ju Ying.

Ju Wenqi and his two brothers in front are quite a bit older than Ju Wenqi. They are like father and son when they go together. Ju Wenlin's eldest son Ju Changfu is only three years younger than Ju Wenqi.

Mr. Ju didn't have it seven years ago. At that time, Ju Wenqi was twenty-six years old and had been married for more than four years.

Before leaving, Mr. Ju took Ju Wenqi's hand and breathed in his breath, saying, "Wenqi, you three brothers and three have no children yet. You are concerned about it. I will take your wife to the county hospital tomorrow. I can't close my eyes even if I didn't see you giving birth to a son."

After saying that, Dad Ju, who couldn't close his eyes, closed his eyes and died the next moment.

Ju Wenqi is a filial son and always thinks about this. His father took his wife to the county hospital for treatment just after the seventh day of the year. He spent a lot of money and had trouble with his family. He drank Chinese medicine until he vomited. His wife Zhang Yongmei finally got pregnant.

I have been hoping for the first time and I am a girl.

The couple was a little disappointed, but this was the first child they gave birth to after so many twists and turns, and they still loved each other.

In less than two years, they gave birth to another one regardless of the above policies. They had a good plan. If the son had a fine, it would be worth it. If he had a son, he would have suffered less sin.

Unfortunately, the weather didn't go as expected, and the second child was still a girl. The cow at home was taken away, and the newly made bedding was not left behind.

In the past two years, the policy has been tighter. More pregnant women have been taken away and aborted children, and those who have given birth have been directly treated for birth control.

Zhang Yongmei hid in hiding and avoided childbirth and was pregnant with children. The family planning office in the village came to the house every few days to arrest people. Zhang Yongmei never dared to go home. She has been hiding outside for more than a year.

If a child is born, he will definitely not be able to escape punishment, so just punish him. As long as the son is punished, Ju Wenqi will recognize it.

Ju Ying sighed before speaking, with a look of regret on his face, and replied, "It's still a girl."

Ju Wenqi did not hide his disappointment at all. He reached out to touch his pocket of clothes, took out a cigarette bag, tremblingly, and rolled out a paper and shriveled from old newspapers. After rolling it, he remembered that the match was gone.

"San brother, don't get angry either. You and your third sister-in-law are only in their early thirties, so you will have another child in the future," Ju Ying advised.

Ju Wenqi sighed and waved his hand: "Okay, okay, I'll go home to cook first. I'm not relieved to see our mother watching the child."

Ju Wenqi lived in the old house left by Mr. Ju. The small thatched house was very short and looked a little crooked from the front, as if the wind could blow it. Fortunately, the old house was in a good location, and it was convenient to visit anyone in the middle of the village.

I was afraid that the crazy mother would run around and throw stones at other people's children and cause trouble. Every time I went out, Ju Wenqi would lock the door and leave a blank in the middle of the two doors. It would be possible for the adults to get out of the child, so that the crazy mother would have something to do. The eldest girl Ju Min would come out and call someone.

Just as the lock was unlocked, the cry of the child came from the room. Ju Wenqi almost poked the key in a hurry.

The second girl Ju Jing was crying.

The little girl is only three years old this year and doesn’t know anything. She doesn’t care about her biological mother for more than a year. She cries all day long when she is hungry, thirsty, cold, hot and cold.

"What's going on? Are you bullying your sister?" Ju Wenqi asked Ju Min, who was sitting on the kang and playing with tumbler.

Ju Min replied dissatisfiedly: "Who bullied her? She cried because she wanted to eat the milk powder in the jar but couldn't reach it. It was the milk powder I bought for my younger brother, so I can't give it to her."

One sentence happened to Ju Wenqi's heart, so it was so depressed.

"It's not my brother, it's my sister," Ju Wenqi said in a muffled voice: "I'll cook some porridge and go to pick your mother back. You can burn the kang in the east room."

When he heard that his mother was coming back, Ju Minle didn't even play with the tumbler, so he ran out to hold the firewood without wearing a cotton jacket.

The child, who is only five years old, is about the same height as Chai, but she holds her steadily, which shows that she often does this job.

After cooking the porridge, Ju Wenqi asked Ju Min to cool it and serve it to grandma, and then took two aluminum lunch boxes out.

When he walked past the east end of the village, he left a lunch box of thick millet porridge for the old man of the Sun family and borrowed a ox cart from his house.

The ox cart squeaked down the hill and walked for more than an hour before reaching the place.

This is a small valley, without the wind, and building a straw shed inside is much warmer than outside.

Zhang Yongmei has changed many places in the past year, and this is the ninth place. She chose to give birth here because she wanted to see that there was no wind here. She could suffer less and not suffer from confinement illness so that she would not delay farming and working to raise children.

Ju Wenqi lifted the broken quilt on the straw shed and bent down and crawled in.

The space inside is not big, it is black and smells bad.

"I brought the porridge, you drink some, and we'll go home if there's nothing to do." Ju Wenqi handed Zhang Yongmei the lunch box that he had been holding in his arms.

She has been struggling during pregnancy. Not only did Zhang Yongmei not gain weight, but she also lost a lot of weight. She looked a little scary when she looked skinny and bone-like.

Zhang Yongmei sniffed her nose with red eyes, looked at the child who was sleeping soundly beside her, and sighed and said, "This child is not lucky. I have breasts on both of my heads, but this one doesn't."

"If there is no, there is nothing, just support it," Ju Wenqi comforted him: "No need to make trouble in the future. You can raise it well when you go home. We are all young. Taking care of the carpenters can always make life better and let our girls live a good life."

Zhang Yongmei was very advised and had no appetite and ate a lunch box of porridge. After eating, she started to pack up her things without rest.

In fact, there are not many things, you can put them in one package.

Ju Wenqi went out of the shed and pulled off the broken quilt and wrapped it tightly around Zhang Yongmei and the child, and placed the mother and daughter on the ox cart.

The ox cart squeaked uphill and downhill, and the speed was slower than when it came. It would probably take more than two hours to get home.

No matter how long the road is, there will always be a time to come. No matter how poor and difficult the days are, as long as you are willing to work hard and struggle, you can always endure it.
