Chapter eight hundred and eighty third silkworm
In history, foreign merchants traveled between the East and the West to traffic in silk produced in China, gradually forming a communication between the Eurasian continent and the "Silk Road". Later, China's silkworm breeding technology was introduced to the West, and it was spread to Central Asia in the 4th century, West Asia, and the Byzantine Empire established by the Eastern Romans in the 6th century. There are different opinions on the spread of silkworm breeding technology in the West.
Zhang Nan knew about this, but what Zhang Nan knew even more was that there must be no silkworms in the current Dashi. According to historical materials, the silkworm seeds had already flowed out during the Southern and Northern Dynasties, but they did not flow to Dashi.
Zhang Nan was just a gambler. The caliph who bet on this big food was just a time traveler, but he had no system, so he was not clear about these historical materials.
According to historical records, several Indian monks came to Constantinople, the capital of Byzantine in the 6th century. At that time, Persian merchants sold silk there at high prices and made huge profits. These Indian monks offered advice to Emperor Justinian, saying that they had a way to prevent Byzantium from buying silk from Persia and other countries. They had lived in a place called Selinda for a long time and found that the silk-producing insect was a kind of insect.
The silk was spit out of the worm's mouth and it was impossible to take the insects away from the country, but it was possible to bring the eggs laid by the insects to hatch. Justinian promised to reward them again afterwards. Later, the Indian monk did get the eggs and hatched them according to law. He got many insects and fed them with mulberry leaves, so silkworms could be raised in Byzantine.
Similar to this, there is also a historical document that Persians took silkworm seeds for Justinian. In the 7th century, another Byzantine historian, Tieronés, recorded that the emperor summoned the Persians who had lived in China. They promised to find silkworm seeds for Justinian. They detoured to China through the Southern Caucasus region.
Two years later, about 553 years later, he returned to Byzantium with silkworm seeds. The silkworm seeds were brought in hollow canes. Under their guidance, Byzantium successfully raised silkworms and cocoons. So far, the Byzantine Empire used silkworms spitted in the West for the first time as raw material for textile silk.
Zhang Nan felt that it was unlikely to be these two stories. First, the silkworm eggs were kept in the hollow cane for more than a year, which was inconsistent in silkworm breeding technology.
The second point is that China's technology for silkworm breeding has not reached the point of blockade, otherwise this would not explain that Japan and all the Far Eastern countries' silkworm breeding technologies were passed down from China.
However, Zhang Nan felt that this was also very likely to be the Byzantine thieves calling for catching thieves. They used the lie of blockade technology to ensure the uniqueness of the silkworm seeds in their hands, so that they could monopolize them. In other words, the method of raising silkworms will be blocked when they arrive at them, and they will naturally not be able to spread it as a state secret.
Compared to these two unreliable statements, Zhang Nan actually prefers to believe that this silkworm was taken out by the Chinese.
A story recorded by Xuanzang in "The Record of the Western Regions of the Great Tang Dynasty" is that in today's Hotan, Xinjiang, it was called Yutian. In ancient times, there was a country called Qusatanna. The country sought silkworm seeds from the eastern country, but the king of the eastern country did not give it secretly, and he also ordered the border to prohibit the export of silkworm seeds. So, King Qusatanna came up with a clever way to propose to the princess of the Eastern country with humble words and generous gifts, and obtained permission.
When marrying the princess, King Qusadan told the envoy who married the princess, "Tell the princess of the East that there is no silk cotton in our country, she can bring the seeds of sericulture and make clothes for herself in the future. After hearing the envoy's words, the princess secretly made some sericulture seeds and put them in her hat. When she arrived at the border, the officials searched carefully, but they never dared to check the princess' hat. The sericulture seeds arrived at Qusadan, and the locals began to raise silkworms.
In this story, the Eastern Kingdom is China.
The story was also unearthed in the end to prove it, and Zhang Nan prefers this statement.
But no matter what, Dashi should not have silkworms now. If Dashi had even silkworms, Zhang Nan felt that Dashi would not have much need to trade with Dashi. First of all, in terms of technology, Dashi is not much lower than Dashi. Moreover, Dashi did not have so many high-yield crops that could give Dashi.
Comrade Li Er had to believe what Zhang Nan said so convincingly.
"Okay, since that's the case, you can hand me your memorials over there. I will look at it carefully. If Dashi really wants to do business with us, I will order this thing to be strictly guarded." Li Erdao.
"Then there is no big problem." Zhang Nan said with a smile.
After a meal, Zhang Nan took Li Lizhi away from the palace.
On the way back home, Li Lizhi looked at Zhang Nan with admiration, keeping Zhang Nan until she was embarrassed.
"What's wrong? Is there any flowers on my face?" Zhang Nan asked embarrassedly, touching his face with his hand.
"Your husband, you are so amazing." Li Lizhi said with a smile.
"Awesome? What a powerful method?" Zhang Nan asked strangely.
"I haven't seen many ministers who can talk and laugh with my father for so long. For example, those officials of lower ranks can't speak when they see him. They are not like you, your husband. If you have any questions, you have to ask your opinions." Li Li said.
"What's this? You didn't see the way the emperor was trying to marry you to me." Zhang Nan said with a smile.
After hearing this, Li Lizhi's face turned red, and then she smashed Zhang Nan with her hands.
"You still said! If Yue'er hadn't pulled us that day, I don't know how long it would take for you to marry a few of us miserable women." Li Lizhi also sighed. In order to wait for Zhang Nan to marry her, Li Lizhi waited for five years, and changed from watching Zhang Nan and Cui Yue's world into a family of four.
If there wasn't a Jin Shengman in the mansion, Li Lizhi felt that she would have to be driven crazy, and this was the legendary love that could not be obtained.
"Then have become a family now?" Zhang Nan smiled and stopped Li Lizhi in his arms.
"Langjun, I don't want to have the same status as Yue'er in your heart. As long as I know Langjun, you have me in your heart." Li Lizhi also said in a low voice in Zhang Nan's arms.
"Silly, since I married you, I will naturally be the same for you." Zhang Nan also touched Li Lizhi's head and said.
Before they knew it, the two of them returned to the gate of the mansion. Li Lizhi grabbed Zhang Nan and said, "Wait for a while." After that, Li Lizhi hugged Zhang Nan and hugged her while saying, "When you go back, your husband will become your husband. Now they are not here, let me hug you alone for a while."
