891 Blocking the gap

The world is big and small, and what happens here will also happen in other places.

While the gunfire sounds on Oahu Island are endless, Moscow's artillery continues day and night.

Unlike the distant Pacific Ocean, the battle in Moscow lasted for quite a while. Everyone here has become numb and is irritated against this war.

"The Soviet army has some shortcuts to penetrate using sewers. Our soldiers have to clean up the occupied neighborhoods every day, which is a uncomfortable job." An officer reported to General Manstein, who was standing in the command center with his hands behind his back.

Although the urban street fighting training was repeated and practical experience was accumulated in the Smolensk area, the street fighting in Moscow was still exhausting, and Manstein had no good idea.

Street fighting itself is not an easy problem to solve. The US military in the 21st century often suffered losses in street fighting, so the German army now has no good solutions.

"Two newly established divisions in Belarus have been mobilized to the front battlefield. On the first day, one division was forced to withdraw from the battle because of too much loss." Another officer raised his chin and reported on the defeat of the Belarusian troops.

"The Soviet army lost about 1,000 people in the counterattack. Although they regained the block, they had not yet established a stable foothold and suffered heavy losses. In fact, we did not lose much." A general pointed to the prominent block that the Soviet army broke into on the map and said to Manstein.

"They made a breakthrough here, occupying a block, about 10 buildings, and the ruins of 10 nearby buildings, forming a protrusion near the breakthrough." He said, using a teaching stick to draw a circle on the map, indicating the location of the protrusion.

Several combat staff bent over and were carefully watching the map of Moscow and analyzing how to capture the blocks occupied by the Soviet counterattack.

During the defeat, a reorganized Belarusian division was consumed by about 1,000 soldiers, half of which were lost during the collapse and retreat.

This incident left a Belarusian general present with a look of shame. His troops were indeed defeated by the Soviet army, but before being defeated, he killed more than 500 soldiers.

"Sir, we have tried our best... the enemy has concentrated at least 3,000 people to fight back at the position where I am... and the support of cannons." The Belarusian general explained helplessly.

His troops were not well equipped, most of the soldiers were equipped with Mauser 98k rifles, with few automatic weapons.

In addition, there are almost no heavy artillery, and being able to fight for one day and one night in the battlefield environment like the Ghost Prison in Moscow is already considered to be a superb performance.

"They are simply devils, holding explosives packs to blow up our tanks." Seeing that Manstein did not interrupt his explanation, the Belarusian general plucked up his courage to explain.

The Belarusian troops were considered relatively loyal troops, so the German army was still thinking about it even though they could not provide them with automatic weapons and advanced heavy equipment.

This Belarusian infantry division has 90 T-26 tanks, which is not much smaller than the tanks equipped by some Soviet armored divisions.

However, these tanks encountered Soviet suicide squads during the counterattack. The two sides fought desperately between the ruins, and eventually the Belarusian troops were defeated.

More than 20 T-26 tanks were destroyed by the Soviet army, and at least 20 T-26 tanks painted with iron crosses were discarded and they were naturally seized by the Soviet army.

"God General, I know the losses of your troops, but I hope you can hold your position next time." Manstein finally spoke and interrupted the other party's defense.

"Yes! Sir!" the Belarusian general stood attentively and replied with his chin raised his head: "Next time my military headquarters will be placed on the front line."

"It's a good thing to be determined, but you have to be safe." Manstein waved his hand, then looked at the others after giving instructions.

The Belarusian troops were defeated in a block, which had a huge impact on the entire German front.

Manstein wanted to assemble troops to fight back, and then clear out most of the Soviet infiltration forces in most blocks and block holes in the defense line.

The entire offensive plan may have to be re-planned, because the Soviet army that broke through the Belarusian military defense line is likely to stick to some areas and cause trouble for the subsequent German offensive.

"I need to let the two subsequent divisions take over the defense line of the Belarusian troops. I need to let them rest and then enter the battle." Manstein pointed to the gap on the map and ordered the generals behind him.

"In addition, to apply for army-level artillery suppression, I want to clear the depth of the Soviet army and nail the enemy's follow-up troops to the spot." When he said this, he pointed to the back of the Soviet army's defense line.

When an army attacks, it must be the first to hoard subsequent troops and materials and ammunition. These things cannot be advanced to the designated position with the offensive troops as soon as possible.

They are often placed in a safe place close to the front line and then deployed after the front line is solid.

If these materials can be restricted from entering the gap opened by the Soviet counterattack, then the German counterattack will be twice the result with half the effort.

"In addition, apply for air force bombing, the Soviet army has become active recently." Manstein looked at the map and ordered the air force liaison officer.

"As for orders! General! I will submit an application and let the Air Force bombers be dispatched as soon as possible!" the liaison officer stood attentively and said.

"Press their arrogance! Let them stay on the position and defend passively, and they can only be beaten... that's it." After Manstein finished speaking, he stopped issuing new orders.

Although the Soviet army's breakthrough caused trouble for the German army, according to the head of state's attack plan, it seemed that Belarusian troops would still be reused to fight the tough battle.

This kind of consumption is a good thing for Germany and for the German troops on the frontline.

They don’t have to worry about the endless street fighting to consume their elite troops, because most of the Soviet army consumed were “foreign corps” in the German army.

In the future, the German army will increasingly use foreign corps, such as Lithuania and Estonian troops, Belarusian troops, and Hungary Romanian troops.

Of course, it also includes Italian troops, French troops, or local British troops.
