Chapter 33 Manhattan Project

"Dr. Jones, what happened?" Seeing Indiana Jones leading a group of superhumans into the carriage in a hurry, the leader of the Allied guards reached out to block everyone. This carriage rested with important figures, and even the Justice League could not get involved at will.

"It's okay, Captain Locke, let them in!" an old scientist with a rigorous face stood up from the sofa and frowned, "Jones, you are in a hurry. Can you tell me what happened?"

"Dr. Robert, Captain Locke, an enemy attacked the army, and I'm afraid we must concentrate everyone in a safe place." Jones said briefly.

"Is the situation serious?" Dr. Robert asked nervously in a slight shock.

"We will guarantee everyone's completeness, please rest assured!" Jones took off his cowboy hat and said comfortingly.

"No, Jones, you don't understand. What I'm worried about is not my own safety!" The old doctor still grabbed Jones' arm nervously.

"Dr. Robert, you..." Jones frowned slightly at the doctor's expression. In his impression, the old scientist had never lost his calmness, even on the night when Casablanca was attacked. "...I don't know if there is anything?"

Dr. Robert, to be precise, Dr. Robert Oppenheimer, another plan of the Allied unconventional war forces, the head of the "Manhattan Project", hesitated for a moment and looked carefully at Captain Locke beside him.

"Indiana Jones is a patriot, and I believe in his ethics!" Locke whispered to Dr. Oppenheimer, tilting his head towards Jones, "Come with me, Jones, you are the only one."

"No, Doctor, although we don't know the identity of the enemy of the attacking army, we believe it should be the German gentlemen's alliance. I alone cannot protect you and all the scientists in the car. If you can't believe us, it is the Germans who succeeded." Jones glanced at the superhuman companion behind him and shook his hand to stop Captain Locke.

"Well, it's much better than letting that thing fall into the hands of the Germans!" Dr. Oppenheimer shook his head with a wry smile, "Please come with me, gentlemen, wait for this to pass, and hope you will forget what you see here. This may be the only hope to end the war as soon as possible."

The entry of Jones and others caused the old doctor to argue with several other scientists in the car. However, as the old doctor shouted angrily, they finally stopped arguing and agreed to the existence of Jones and others.

"Sorry, gentlemen, our work is very important and may have a significant impact on the world. They are not ready to let outsiders touch this... Pandora's Box!" Dr. Oppenheimer turned around and said to the superhuman behind him with a very bad expression.

With the old doctor's instructions, Captain Locke took out a silver aluminum can from the safe in the car, like a large thermos.

"What is this? Doctor!" Jones looked at each other with the superhumans behind him. They didn't know this thing.

"Jones, you know, they and I have been in charge of a separate military plan!" Oppenheimer looked at his fellow scientists and stammered in a little hesitant manner.

"The Manhattan Project, like the Super Warrior Project that created Captain America, has mentioned it to me once!" Jones nodded cautiously.

"In fact, this plan has been...successful at the beginning of the year, only the last loading tool!" Oppenheimer bit his lip nervously. At his age, it was already a very disobedient expression, "But..."

"But Einstein stopped us, and it has to be said that as a pacifist, Dr. Einstein realized the dangers of this plan earlier than we did!" said an old scientist behind Oppenheimer.

"Yes, Albert is right at this point. If the results of the Manhattan Project were handed over to the army and politicians, they would use it immediately on the European battlefield in order to end the war as soon as possible!" Oppenheimer said with a sigh.

"Isn't this our common expectation?" Indiana Jones asked in confusion.

"Of course, this is our common wish! But... it depends on what we are willing to pay for this result!" Oppenheimer seemed to have finally found a catharsis for the first time in a long time, and said in a heavy tone, "The whole process of the Manhattan Plan is to create a big bomb, with unprecedented power, you can't imagine it at all!"

“How powerful is it?”

Although the threat of the Gentlemen League was imminent, the superhumans of the Justice League subconsciously noticed something more dangerous in the doctor's words, and couldn't help but listen.

"You have already felt the main gun shelling of Gneisenau in Casablanca. The loading of the 283mm battleship high-explosive bomb is about 300 kilograms. The bombs planned to be made in Manhattan are equivalent to... the power of the 40,000 Gneisenau main gun shells!" Oppenheimer stared at everyone expressionlessly.

"Hiss~~" There was a sound of air conditioning in the crowd. The superhumans of Justice League are not ordinary people. Most of them have firm minds and minds, but they are still shocked by the doctor's words.

Everyone suddenly understood why Captain Locke would rather have a gap with the Justice League than let superhumans, except American Jones, enter the car.

The superhuman in the Justice League is not the only one. They come from all over the world. There are also English, Canadian, French, etc. No one can guarantee that any superhuman will have a patriotic spirit and take advantage of the situation in the military for their motherland.

"Dr. Oppenheimer, if it were just because the bomb was too powerful, I could not imagine why Dr. Einstein would stop you. If this war is not ended as soon as possible, I am afraid that soldiers from all over the world will have to bear more than 40,000 artillery shells on the battlefield!" Jones's eyes flashed and he said in confusion.

"I said that ending the war is the common wish of everyone, but it depends on what price we need to pay!" Oppenheimer said with some annoyance. "Our research is absolutely successful in military technology, but it is opened with Pandora's Box. There is a flaw in this kind of bomb that we have not solved yet."

Oppenheimer frowned and said nothing, but the old doctor who had just spoken behind him took it.

"When this bomb explodes, it will release light and heat comparable to the sun. Even steel will be instantly gasified, and its energy is equal to 40,000 battleship shells. Of course, the actual effect is not as large as 40,000 battleship shells.

However, the most terrifying thing is that the land after the explosion is radioactive and has very serious pollution. It is possible that no grass will grow for decades. Even if the humans living on this land are not killed on the spot by bombs, they will gradually become ill and die in the future. The descendants will have mutated deformities, and the number of casualties may reach hundreds of thousands, or even be counted at all."

The Justice League is silent in the carriage. The Justice League is different from the Gentleman League. Most of the superhumans are based on noble purposes to help the Allies end the war. If the Allies use this inhuman weapon, then how can justice be spoken of?

"Dr. Einstein is right. This kind of thing should not appear!" The crowd was a little turbulent, and the superpowers were all a little worried.

"Dr. Oppenheimer, I don't understand, since Dr. Einstein opposes the use of this kind of bomb, why does this thing exist again!" Indiana Jones said with a frown at the silver "big thermos".

"This thing is not a bomb, it's just its raw material, which contains 50 kilograms of highly enriched uranium 235, which is the result of the efforts of all scientists in the institute over the past few years." The old scientist behind Oppenheimer explained. "It can not only make bombs, but also serve as nuclear fuel, providing us with an efficient and clean energy, such as electricity!"

"I'm ironic, right? The most polluting elements can produce the cleanest energy." Dr. Oppenheimer said with a wry smile. "In fact, not all scientists agree with Dr. Einstein. I am one of them. I hope to end the war at all costs."

"Dr. Oppenheimer's opinion was once a minority and was not recognized by everyone. Although he was the head of the institute, other scientists only agreed to use these uranium 235 for peaceful purposes!" Another old scientist said a little embarrassedly.

"Once a minority?" Jones keenly noticed the words used by the old scientist, "that is, now..."

"Now Dr. Einstein has become a minority!" Oppenheimer said with anger without a victory on his face. "The thousands of homeless Muslim civilians in Casablanca and the bodies of innocent people covered with streets and alleys have allowed all the scientists present to witness the cruelty of the Nazis."

"We suddenly realized that if the war was not ended as soon as possible, countless civilians would be sacrificed under the iron hoof of the Nazis. Compared with hundreds of millions of civilians in Europe, the sacrifice of hundreds of thousands of people seemed insignificant."

The old scientist behind Oppenheimer's face twitched slightly, "The Nazis turned life into a number. If it was a sin, we scientists were also ready to bear it. We all have made a decision that once the war is over, we will devote the rest of our lives to the humanitarian rescue work of hundreds of thousands of nuclear bomb victims."

The carriage was silent again. In these few minutes, the Justice League members led by Jones seemed to have experienced a baptism in their lives. They had never realized before that while the Justice League was fighting the life and death battle, these scientists were also fighting the devil in their hearts.

It is obvious that these scientists have become winners before them. No matter what the Manhattan plan will look like, these people understand what they are doing and are ready for the final result.

"Einstein still insists on his point of view, but he no longer stops us, but just boards the plane back home!" Oppenheimer waved his hand tiredly, "Gentlemen, you all understand now. What I want to remind you is that no matter what happens, you must first ensure that this thing cannot fall into the hands of the Nazis!"
