Chapter 39 "Plants vs. Zombies" version planning

After sending the recruitment information, Chen Mo planned to check the application emails until the evening.

Now Chen Mo needs to plan the update issue of the version of Plants vs. Zombies.

In his previous life, "Plant vs. Zombies" had a sequel, but its reputation was extremely poor. Although it was good in terms of profit, it was far inferior in terms of player reputation.

Therefore, Chen Mo does not plan to develop "Plant vs. Zombies 2". If it is just for making money, then it is also scolded. Why not make a domestic money-making game? At least it can maintain the reputation and brand of "Plant vs. Zombies".

This version update is likely to be the first and last version update of "Plant vs. Zombies", so Chen Mo's goal is to mobilize the enthusiasm of players as much as possible, so that they can develop new gameplay under the big framework, so that those who like this game can continue to play.

After all, Chen Mo will soon start the development of a new game, and now he does not have so much energy to maintain "Plant vs. Zombies".

After thinking about it, Chen Mo roughly planned the following contents for the new version.

1. In terms of game content, a new [Developer Tool] has been added. Anyone can use this [Developer Tool] and make some attempts under the big framework of Plants vs. Zombies.

You can adjust the numerical settings of plants, zombies, environments, maps, etc.

You can upload new art resources and create new types of plants and zombies.

You can use existing art resources to create new maps, or new levels and gameplay.

These newly created mods (meaning mods, which are modifications or enhancements to the game) will have a special entrance to browse in the "Plant vs. Zombies" game. Players only need to download the corresponding mod to play.

Players can also rate and evaluate each mod. In the mod function, the system will have a default algorithm that sorts each mod through multiple factors such as downloads, ratings, and game duration, and regularly recommends it to players.

2. Build networking and community functions to make players more connected in the game.

"Plant vs. Zombies" developed by Chen Mo has simple networking and ranking functions, but this only meets the players' needs for showing off and comparing, and does not meet the deeper social needs.

Through the new networking and community functions, players can add friends to each other or join the same community (which can be understood as a guild). Friends or players in the same community can watch other players, upload and share videos of their passing levels, and recommend some fun mods.

3. Develop simple multiplayer game functions.

In fact, for players, with [Developer Tools], they will sooner or later make multiplayer games. Chen Mo is just throwing bricks and speeding up the process.

Chen Mo's multiplayer game is currently planned and has two modes, both of which are relatively simple.

The first mode is the multiplayer cooperation mode, each of which controls 3 to 5 paths and supports 2 to 5 players to play games at the same time. That is to say, there are up to 25 paths. The screen can be dragged up and down to freely view the situation of other players.

The sunlight produced by each person is calculated separately, which can help other players grow plants and jointly resist the invasion of zombies.

In multiplayer cooperation mode, a player can be resurrected through special plants after death, and players can also work together to plant some special plants.

The second mode is the multiplayer confrontation mode, which can be 1v1, 2v2 or 3v3. Each player can obtain sunlight and moonlight over time. Sunlight is used to produce plants and moonlight is used to produce zombies.

Zombies are slightly faster than plants.

Players must use plants to defend their lawns and use zombies to attack enemy lawns. Once a player is defeated, they cannot be resurrected.

As for why the two resources of sunlight and moonlight are needed, this is to prevent everyone from planting plants without planting zombies and dragging the game into a bladder game.

If one party controls plants and the other party controls zombies, the balance will become difficult to control, so Chen Mo did not do so.

Chen Mo is not sure whether these two multiplayer modes can succeed, but he is relatively optimistic, because these two modes basically conform to the classic gameplay of the original work. The changes made are some gain changes and will not destroy the core fun of the game.

Of course, it doesn’t matter if you don’t succeed. There will be various mods that players independently research later.

Chen Mo's expected development cycle is two weeks, which is already a very relaxed time. After all, the main function of "Plant vs. Zombies" was only developed in more than a month.

Chen Mo roughly finished writing the summary of the design document, it was already evening.

After the experience store closed, Chen Mo returned to the second floor, opened his designer's email, and began to filter the resumes sent by the applicants.

Most of these resumes are job-assistant applications, with only four people applying for the front desk.

Chen Mo looked through their resumes and was not very satisfied. He either had a superficial understanding of the game, or had basically never played "Plant vs. Zombies", or he had just written two people with perfunctory appreciation.

Of course, it is mainly because of the appearance of these four girls, and Chen Mo has no homage to him.

Chen Mo is not an appearance association, and recruiting a front desk is not an unspeakable purpose, but after all, this is a relatively generous job. Chen Mo has many choices, so there is no need to make do with it.

This is also for their own players. A sweet-looking front desk will make players who come to experience the store and experience the game more happy, so you still have to find a better one.

At least be cute.

Chen Mo continued to look through the resume of the job assistant.

There are many resumes, and Chen Mo checks them one by one, and when they encounter those that do not meet the requirements, they will be wiped out. Currently, he only needs an assistant, so he can be relatively casual when brushing his resume.

If you are too old, I won't consider it for the time being.

People who are too old are mainly relatively conservative in their thinking, not active enough, lack innovative spirit, lack of training potential, and making people older than themselves an assistant will be awkward.

If you have long-term work experience in other game companies, you will not consider it for the time being.

Chen Mo's game design concept is completely different from other companies. People who have worked in other game companies for a long time must have been finalized, and it is very difficult to reverse it.

I won't consider it if I have nothing to do except playing games.

Playing games and doing games are two completely different things. Playing games requires reaction, operation and game IQ, while making games requires good logical thinking, delicate thinking, down-to-earth work attitude and a little inspiration.

It is difficult for a pure player to be competent in game design.

Then I read the game that these people sent to appreciate.

Game appreciation can reflect a person's basic understanding of the game. Chen Mo cannot choose someone who is contrary to his game philosophy as an assistant.

Regarding the appreciation of "Plant vs. Zombies", Chen Mo mainly looks at the applicant's understanding of this game. As long as he can talk about the highlights of this game in any 2 to 3 aspects of creativity, gameplay, system, level, and values, he will be qualified.

Regarding the appreciation of other games, Chen Mo mainly wants to see the types of games that candidates prefer and his vision. As long as you choose a relatively successful game, and then briefly talk about the highlights of this game, even if you are qualified.

This is an additional question for the future prospects of the game.
