Prologue The Day of Advent

This is the second month of "Dark Season".

During the three-month dark season, there will be no trace of sunlight projecting onto the earth. Without sunlight, crops cannot grow. On this extremely barren land, the word "dark season" is basically equated with the slack season.

In the only tavern in Lijin Town, there were crowds of farmers who didn't have to work. Most of these illiterate men gathered together, holding a glass of inferior foam beer in their hands, listening to a storyteller sitting on a high stool and telling those strange stories with relish.

"Ahem... Today, let's talk about the story of the 'Day of Arrival' in ancient legends..." Mr. Storyteller is one of the few "cultural people" in Lijin Town. He usually relies on teaching the children in the town to read and make a living. In his spare time, he will go to the tavern to tell these idle men some hearsays, edit them casually, or use a curious story from an unknown cheap book to exchange for a few wine money.

The old steam engine in the boiler room made a huge noise, pumping warm steam intermittently into the vestibule of the tavern to resist the coldness brought by the three-month dark season.

Perhaps the stingy tavern owner should have taken out some copper coins to repair the steam engine that was as big as his grandmother, who had passed away for more than ten years. Especially in the past few days, the noise of the steam engine has become increasingly huge. The content that regular customers in the tavern joke about every day is always indispensable to this old steam engine and the time prediction of the scrapping of the steam engine.

The Storyteller had to raise his volume again in case his already husky voice was completely covered by the noise of the steam engine.

"Legend... it was the twelve great apostles who created human beings... In that era when human beings were just born, every day and night reincarnation was exactly twenty-four hours, and the saying that twenty-four hours were called one day was also decided at that time..."

"Old man, you really can make it up! He can make it up for twenty-four hours a day and night. If that were the case, the world would have been messed up long ago!" A strong man who was drunk in the corner suddenly started to yell in dissatisfaction. Four or five empty wine glasses were piled up beside him.

In this world, there is never a shortage of such guys who like to find fault and show their own sense of existence, and these guys are often called "barrier".

"Ahem... this is not what I compiled... That's what the ancient books say..." Mr. Storyteller wanted to justify the lieutenant, but the others who were waiting to listen to the story had already urged impatiently.

"You keep talking and ignore that drunk!"

"That's right, we are here to listen to the story, not to argue about this thing!"

"Talk quickly, speak quickly, I'll invite you to drink if you're right!"

...

"Okay... where did you say just now... Oh, yes, the twelve great apostles created humanity, but not long after, a war broke out inside the apostles... The scale of that war was so great that we can imagine now..."

"How huge is it? Let me tell you, when I was young, I saw the elite army of the Iron Dragon Duke... Tsk tsk, do you know how powerful that army is? Hundreds of steam tanks larger than this bar! Thousands of knights riding on ground dragons and wearing steel armor! They could easily shake all the houses in our Lijin Town with just one stomp in their feet!... By the way, is the battle between the apostles so powerful? How many tanks did they use?" A drunkard in his fifties suddenly interrupted.

His exaggerated tone with a hint of show-off, he really scared the group of inexperienced farmers in the bar for a moment - not to mention hundreds of steam tanks larger than the house, many of them had never seen even the most ordinary steam locomotives.

The Duke of Iron Dragon in the mouth of the winemaker is the lord of the Iron Dragon Corps and the brother of the Emperor of the Rhine Empire. Lijin Town is just a barren town located on the border of the Iron Dragon Corps.

"The army of the Iron Dragon Duke is very powerful." Mr. Storyteller nodded, "But compared with the war between the apostles, that's far behind... That battle was a collapse of heaven and earth, and the lives were tragic..."

The Storyteller tried hard to describe the magnificent and vast war scene, but his own cultural level was not much higher. He was already exhausted after saying a few words. The drinkers below were just confused and had no idea what the so-called "Apostle Battle" had reached.

"Anyway... since that battle ended, the world has become what it is now, day and night, and it has become a three-month-long "bright season" and a three-month-long "dark season"... In ancient times, people called it "polar day" and "polar night".

"Oh... So that's the case... It sounds really amazing... At least he will definitely not be able to change the duration of a day and night to twenty-four hours now." Everyone nodded half-understanding.

"The war is over, and no one among the twelve apostles can decide a victory or defeat, and they retreat, and the humans who remain on this land, that is, we, have become a group of abandoned people." Mr. Storyteller took a sip of water and continued to say slowly.

"Where did those apostles go?"

"No one knows...but just over 220 years ago, the traces of the twelfth apostle first appeared in people's sight, and the story of "The Day of Advent" I am going to tell today also has a crucial connection with the twelfth apostle."

The storyteller stopped talking and coughed a few suggestively. Soon, someone below took the initiative to throw half of the copper coin on the bartender and shouted to the bartender behind the bartender: "Give me a glass of wine!"

A small cup of cheapest inferior beer can only be bought with half a copper coin. This drink is sour and astringent, and has a faint musty smell, but it is enough for the storyteller.

Holding up the cup pushed by the bartender, the storyteller took a big gulp greedily, then smacked his lips and continued:

"When it comes to this 'Day of Arrival'... it was a terrifying disaster. It was a big city with a population of more than 500,000. But when the light that broke through the sky enveloped the entire city... time seemed to have stopped. No one knew what happened at the point of Arrival. But when the light column disappeared, the entire city had been destroyed. More than 90% of the residents in the city evaporated directly from this world. Less than half a century survived the ruins... But there was no memory left in their minds about everything that happened on the day of Arrival."

"Is this...is this true?" The clear sound of swallowing saliva sounded among the drinkers. With their poor imagination, it was hard to imagine that kind of scene that seemed to be the end of the world, but the 500,000 people all evaporated in one day, and it sounded creepy just enough.

"Of course... the ruins of that city still exist in the northern border of the empire, but they were controlled by the Rhine Empire's army, and idle people could not get close to it." Mr. Storyteller replied.

"What's the name of that city?"

"O'Connell, the capital of the first empire on the mainland, "Shenluo", was once the capital of the mainland. However, that empire has been destroyed with O'Connell, and its vast territory has been included in the territory of our Rhine Empire."

...

Just as the drinkers were discussing the story of the coming day, the drunkard sitting in the corner suddenly stood up, pointed out the window, shouting "Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

Everyone turned their heads one after another, and saw dazzling white light pouring in through the gap between the wooden boards through the window - which surprised everyone to the extreme. It is dark season now, how could there be a bright light like daytime outside?!

No, no, even at noon tomorrow, the sun is not so dazzling and bright!

After several seconds, the people who were closer to the window woke up like a dream and pulled off the wooden slats that sealed the windows. Only then did everyone see clearly the source of the light-

It was a huge light column that broke through the clouds, reaching directly between the sky and the earth. Its momentum, even tens of thousands of kilometers away, was enough to make people suffocate.
