Section 33, Hiring
The bald mercenary looked at Rudolf in front of him. He could tell that the young noble was the real employer. However, although most of the mercenaries worked hard for money, they also had to find a good employer, otherwise it would be a bit unworthy to die for some inexplicable reasons.
"My name is Rudolph von Habsburg." Rudolph showed his identity to the bald mercenary. He did not advise the other party to be vigilant. In fact, if the other party agreed immediately, Rudolph would hesitate.
"Ha, the Habsburg family?" However, when Rudolph reported his name, the bald mercenary and his companions looked at each other in surprise, and quickly stood up and looked respectfully.
"What's going on?" Rudolph was very puzzled. He probably didn't know these mercenaries.
"Is it the Habsburg family from Eagle Fort in Algoyle?" the bald mercenary asked Rudolph again.
"Is there a second Habsburg family?" Rudolph said to him with a smile.
"Dear sir, please forgive us, because you did not show your family's emblem." The bald mercenary hurriedly said to Rudolf.
It turns out that they are from Algoyle. The so-called Algoyle is Bern, which is a part of Switzerland in later generations. It is located in the mountainous area, and there are not many lands that can be cultivated and forests that can be hunted, so men like to go out to work as mercenaries during the slack farming period.
The ancestors of the Habsburg family built a castle in Argau, named Eagle Fort. As a prominent family in Argau, the Habsburg family was undoubtedly highly praised by the Argau people. Later, after a hundred years, the Habsburg family gradually developed into Schwarz County and eventually became the ruler of Schwarz County. However, the foundation of the Habsburg family is still in Argau's Eagle Fort.
"Then we can have a drink together." Rudolph sat among the bald men. Rodney did not sit down, but he stood behind Rudolph.
"What an honor to drink with the Habsburg family." The bald man and his companions were flattered. The waitress quickly walked over with a pot of wine and placed it among them.
"Why are you in Lorraine?" Rudolph was curious about these mercenaries. Although most of the mercenaries were wandering around, they were definitely scavengers. Mercenaries only appeared there when there was war.
"Uh, in fact, we originally thought Lorraine would have a big change, so we came here with our companions to try our luck, but only a little bit of robbers or something happened." The bald man picked up the cup and finished the wine inside, sighed and said to Rudolf.
"Will there be major changes in Lorraine?" Rudolph asked curiously.
"Yes, the Duke of Lorraine seems to have the intention to surrender to the Kingdom of France." A companion of the bald mercenary said mysteriously in a low voice.
"How is this possible?" Rudolf heard that the Duke of Lorraine actually wanted to transfer the title. This was simply impossible. You must know that Barbarossa is an extremely tough Germanic king. If he knew that the Duke of Lorraine wanted to transfer the title to the Kingdom of Frank, he might have a great fight.
"That's why you are considering coming to Lorraine. If the Duke of Lorraine fights with the king, then choose to surrender to one of them?" Rodney understood the mercenaries' thoughts very well. He smiled and said to the bald mercenaries and his companions.
"That's right, but I didn't expect that Barbarossa to give in." But the bald man sighed deeply, looking a little depressed. He thought he could make a fortune, but he was ruined.
"Give up?" Rudolf couldn't help but ask while drinking wine. This Germanic king, who was famous for a plan, was said to have tough methods in order to conquer Italy. Because he was too bloodthirsty, his beard was dyed with the blood of the Italians. Therefore, he was called Barbarossa's red beard by the world. Will such a tough ruler actually give in?
"Yes, not only did the Duke of Lorraine give the reconciliation property, but it is said that it promised to give the Duke of Lorraine a piece of land to the heir of Lorraine. Tsk, is this brave king old too?" The bald mercenary shook his head and said to Rudolf.
"Well, it's really strange." Rudolph also fell into deep thought, but the king was thinking too far away from him, so he cut into the subject and said to the bald mercenaries. "What skills and equipment do you and your partners have?"
"Ah?" The bald mercenary did not expect Rudolph to suddenly mention this question, but he quickly understood that it seemed that Rudolph was really planning to hire them.
"Each of us has a certain simple helmet, a cotton armor, a spear and a short sword." The bald mercenary said to Rudolf.
"Then offer a price, because I need to increase the manpower for some reasons." Rudolf said to the bald mercenary.
"Each person has fifteen ten sons (small silver coins), and then pay each person a commission of five ten sons every week. Although you are from the Habsburg family, mercenaries have mercenaries' rules, if you can accept this price." The bald mercenary said to Rudolf seriously.
"Trade." Rudolph nodded and said to the bald mercenary.
"Oh." The bald mercenary didn't expect Rudolph to agree so readily. You should know that this price is quite good for mercenaries, but since Rudolph agreed, they looked at each other and nodded.
"Ph." The bald mercenary stretched out his right hand, spitted into his palm, and then pointed at Rudolf.
"Uh?" Rudolf looked at him for no reason, not understanding what it means to suddenly spit into his palm?
"Sir Rudolph, please high-five." Rodney leaned down and said in Rudolph's ear.
"Oh, okay." Rudolf quickly stretched out his left hand, and the palms of the two collided with each other and made a snap. The bald mercenary and his companions both smiled.
"Now we are yours, Lord Rudolph." The bald mercenary said to Rudolph.
"Ha, what's your name?" Rudolph asked the bald mercenary after hiring these people.
"My name is Lanbert, but everyone calls me Iron Arm Lanbert." The bald mercenary said to Rudolf.
"Welcome to join the Iron Arm Bluebert." Rudolph picked up the wine glass, clinked glasses with Bluebert and others fiercely, and welcomed them to join their team.
Five mercenary soldiers were hired in the tavern. Rudolph, Rodney and others went to the town and the surrounding villages to find young people who wanted to take risks. Twenty young farmers were hired. Although these farmers did not have the baptism and training of battle, they were fortunately strong and were completely different from the old, weak, sick and disabled brought by Rudolph from Schwartz.
The five mercenary members joined Rudolph's team, as Rudolph's personal guards, followed him and accepted his dispatch at any time. The others mainly protected property and undertake camp guards and other tasks. However, their first mission was to deal with Lorraine's robbers.
"Sir Rudolph, we may need to think about it carefully." But just as Rudolph was about to deal with these Lorraine robbers, Taylor hurriedly ran to him and said to him.
"What does it mean?" Rudolph was puzzled. He has hired five experienced mercenaries and added twenty strong young farmers, but Taylor told him that he could not implement the plan.
"Sir Rudolph, I got a piece of news from many people in the town that those bandits are not ordinary bandits." Taylor frowned and said to Rudolph. Although he wanted to kill Rudolph, it was obvious that now was not a good time. Before that, he would play the role of his adjutant.
"Oh?" Taylor's words made Rudolph think, and signaled Taylor to continue.
"They said that the bandits were not a mob. They advanced and retreated in moderation and defeated the sheriff's troops sent by the Baron. Some people also said that the one who commanded the bandits was a knight." Taylor said to Rudolf.
