Chapter 117, The Alchemist's Puzzle

The black cat made a threatening sound, but because the back of fate's neck was pinched, he could only slash his limbs weakly. Tracy was a little funny, and she hurried forward to stop the hotel owner.

"Stop it and give it to me, and I believe there is a place next to my bed to let it sit." Tracy said to the boss.

"But my respected lady, the black cat is the messenger of the witch. They will perform evil and terrible witchcraft in the late night." The boss said in a fearful voice. These people in the countryside will always tell you vivid stories about witches and witchcraft.

“放心好了,这不过是个普通小猫,我看它还没有本事施展什么巫术.”特蕾西微笑着接过黑猫,将它抱在怀中,在特蕾西的怀抱中黑猫顿时安静不少,并且发出了舒服的呼噜声.

"Well, may Virgin Mary bless you." The hotel owner could not say anything anymore. He put the candle in the guest room and left with the mercenaries.

"Miss, this black cat is not really the apostle of the witch, right?" Angela looked at the cat covered in darkness with some fear. She always felt that the black cat was a little scary.

"How could you believe the words of those foolish countrymen?" Tracy said with a smile.

"I hope I can arrive in Schwarz County earlier." Angela mumbled, there was only a large wooden bed in the house, which could only be used by Tracy. As a maid, she laid a thick layer of hay on the floor at the end of the bed, and then spread the linen list, so she could do it for a night.

"Get a break early!" Tracy yawned, and she felt sleepy. She bumped all day long, and her bones seemed to be disintegrating.

When Tracy and others fell asleep, the servants and mercenaries sat downstairs drinking and chatting. As men, they were full of energy, and there was nothing to do. The mercenaries who had been wandering all year round took out dice and started playing. The dice was made of the kneecap of the cow and were exquisitely made.

"Ha, I'm really unlucky." One of the mercenaries lost several bronze coins and said in anger and annoyance.

"Don't say that, your luck was jealous two days ago. You must have used up your luck, haha." The servant smiled and shook the dice, with a lot of pieces of copper in front of him.

"Hey, boss, do you want to come and play together?" The mercenary felt that he could not play with the servant, so he turned around and said to the boss standing next to the counter.

"Am I?" The boss pointed at himself. He didn't expect the other party to invite him.

"Yes, are there anyone else here?" The mercenary waved. Anyway, the few of them were bored. The boss thought about it and looked at the empty house, so he wiped his hands and came to their wooden table to sit down.

"Gululu~~." The dice was jumping on the wooden table, and several people were staring at the points of the dice. When the dice stopped, some people beat the wooden table and howled, while others laughed loudly.

"Boss, I feel something strange?" After playing for a few moves, several people became familiar with the boss, so the servant asked the boss curiously.

"What's the matter?" The boss also won a few bronze coins and was in a happy mood, so he added a beer to everyone and replied.

"It seems to be next to the road, and there should be many travelers coming and going, but why is your business so bad?" The servant expressed his doubts.

"You are from somewhere else!" the boss sighed. He touched his thick brown beard and picked up a glass of beer and said.

"Yes, we are Lorraines." The servant nodded and looked at the others and said.

"This is the border between the Principality of Burgundy and the county of Neuchettere. Caravans and travelers used to pass here. At that time, my hotel's business was indescribable, but after the new Earl Neuchettere inherited the title, something very bad happened." The hotel owner said with a dejected smile.

"What happened?" The night wind blew in from the window, the candlelight swaying in the wind, the servants and mercenaries looked at each other and couldn't help asking curiously.

"That's right. When Count Neuchettel took office, everything was calm, but soon he fell ill and almost died several times. Later, an alchemist from the south came. He brought Count Neuchettel a dose of potion. The Count recovered after drinking it." The boss slowly told the matter, and the servants and mercenaries were stunned. The legendary alchemist could turn lead blocks into gold and refine the secret medicine for immortality, but most people encountered liars.

"That's how the alchemist must have won many rewards from Lord Earl!" the servant said to the boss.

"Of course, but our suffering has come." The boss said frowningly, as if things were not that simple.

"How could such a thing happen?" The servants and mercenaries were stunned when they heard it. They could not understand how such a ridiculous thing could have been.

"So travelers and merchants are unwilling to pass by here because no one can answer the puzzle of the alchemist correctly." The boss said helplessly. It was precisely because of this damn puzzle that the originally prosperous border gradually became deserted, and his hotel gradually lost business. If this continues, he can only close his hotel.

"It's so bad. We have to go through Neuchetter to Schwarz County!" The servant couldn't help but wipe his face. Their journey was through Neuchetter. If this were the case, it would have to take a detour, but if it detoured, it would have to double the itinerary.

The next morning, when Tracy had just finished washing up, the servant reported the bad news to her.

"Puzzle?" Tracy sat on a wooden bench at the chair. The maid Angela was combing her hair with a wooden comb and braiding her hair. The black cat was stretching in the corner.

"Yes, Miss Tracy, it seems that we can't pass through to Neuchâtel. If we take a detour, we will have to walk a few more days." The servant said regretfully with a frown.

"I'm interested in the puzzles of this alchemist." But Tracy opened her eyes wide. She was curious about what puzzles the alchemist would have. She had heard that there were many mysterious things in southern Italy, but she didn't expect that she would encounter them in person, so why not go and see the fun.
