Chapter 15 Deterrence (8)

The Duke of Brittany is dead.

The news spread wildly inside the city at a speed that no good horse could match, outside the city. The lords who were preparing to evacuate at the same time all left their troops and rushed towards the Duke of Brittany's residence.

Just a street and alley from the official residence, the three Counts of Cornoye, Pontiyefour, and Nantes had secretly gathered together. The four most powerful lords under the Duke of Brittany had gathered here.

While they slowly rode towards the official residence, they pressed their voices and discussed the future of the Principality of Brittany.

"We are being attacked by demons, and now it is time to work together. The Duke died at this time, and a pillar has fallen." The Earl of Conoye looked heartbroken. "The territory must not be without a master for a day. We vassals must determine the new lord as soon as possible and be loyal to it."

"Originally, the position of the duke should be left to his eldest son. The eldest son inherited the richest capital, and the other territories were all divided into other sons. But the duke was not formally married, although he had two sons... they were both illegitimate sons." The Earl of Pontiyeforer looked at the Earl of Nantes on the side meaningfully, "At this time, it should be inherited by the Duke's brothers. The entire principality and all his private territories should be assigned to the Duke's younger brother, that is, the Earl of Rennes, right?"

Earl Nantes coughed.

"The Earl of Raine didn't come this time. Haven't we all converted to the Orthodox Church of Abraham now? Can he, a pagan, really lead the Principality of Brittany?"

Count Conoye laughed sarcastically: "Earl Nantes, a few days ago, you were still cursing about the conversion."

Earl Nantes coughed again: "One time and another time. Now we still have to rely on the reinforcements invited by the priests of the Abraham Church to repel the demons. Isn't it troublesome to let a pagan lead the principality? In the worst case, we must submit our lives to the order of the annoying Earl Rennes to exchange for the demon."

"Yes, yes, yes," said the Count of Pontiyefour, and "excluding Earl of Rennes, the remaining candidates are the sister of the Duke of Brittany, your wife of Earl of Nantes, right?"

The Earl of Nantes was about to nod, but the Earl of Conoye suddenly shook his head: "This is not suitable, it is not suitable. The inheritance of men has always been higher than that of women. Our inheritance law does not stipulate that pagans cannot inherit titles and territory, right?"

Earl Nantes frowned: "There is no regulation, because there were no pagans in the country before. In this special period, it is necessary to handle special matters. How to explain the inheritance law, isn't it still up to us, the group of living people?"

Count Conoye continued to shake his head: "No, no, many lords don't want to believe in this Abraham church. The Count Rennes who has not come here is more popular. If you really let your wife take power, there will probably be many lords turning to Count Rennes, and the Principality of Brittany will break out in a war to seize inheritance?"

"What can we do if the three of us counts agree that the remaining Earl of Rennes can make a fuss? He rejected the Duke's proposal and refused to change his belief. He was already rebellious, and morality was on our side." Earl Nantes looked at Earl Connoisy meaningfully, "If he really wanted to rebel, he would defeat him. Look, his territory... is very large."

"What territory is not territory? We just want to reduce casualties against demons. Those short-sighted lords cannot understand our good intentions at all." Earl Conoye laughed, "There is no way, put the overall situation first, I will support your Earl Nantes' wife as the next duke."

The group agreed on an idea, then rode their horses and rushed to the official residence.

The lords who arrived first consciously made way and invited these three high-powered counts in.

The Count of Ile de France and his party are surrounded in the garden of the official residence.

"We are in a dignified duel, and your Duke took the initiative to propose. Two nobles were witnesses on the scene. No one used inferior means during the duel. Your Duke had no doubts about the result of the duel before he died. What else do you want to say? Are the nobles of the Duke of Brittany so unaffordable?"

Red Knife held the big sword and stared at the nobles in front of him. White Bow and the Earl of France also held their weapons tightly in their hands, looking like they were ready to fight at any time.

Earl Nantes laughed and stepped out.

"Calorin, your duel with the Duke is your personal grudge, and we don't want to care about it. But, what you did in the theater a few days ago, do you want to just forget it?"

As he said that, he pointed his hand at a nobleman behind him:

"Look, that day, you threw our nobles from the Principality of Brittany down the balcony. He is still wounded. Is this a bully too much? The Duke protects you and does not let us attack you. Now the Duke is dead. Do you still want this to be over? I don't agree!"

"So, are you trying to stand up for him and have a duel?" The Earl of France stared at Earl Nantes coldly, "Or, do you want to treat this matter as a diplomatic incident and formally dealt with? But do you have this authority?"

"It's a coincidence." Earl Nantes tidied up his collar. "Just just now, we lords discussed it and prepared to let my wife, the sister of the former Duke, succeed the new Duke of Brittany. And now, naturally, I am the acting Duke."

As soon as these words came out, the nobles present suddenly became furious! Some people questioned loudly, some whispered, and most of them were extremely puzzled by this decision.

Earls of Conoye and Earls of Pontiyesford also stood up: "We have the same opinion. At present, we must rely on the support of the Church of Abraham to eliminate these demons. Earl of Rennes is a pagan and is not suitable for successor Duke."

Seeing that the two important lords held the same opinion, the voices of doubt suddenly became much smaller. The lords had already understood what was going on, and most of them lowered their heads and began to observe their expressions. Only a few jumped out in anger and pointed at their noses and yelled insults.

"Since someone questioned, how about we vote?" Earl Nantes glanced around, "who agreed to let the former Duke's younger brother succeed him, stand on the left, and the others stand on the right."

Earls of Conoye and Earls of Pontiyefour took the lead and walked to the right. As they took the lead, some lords leaned to the right. Seeing this, the remaining lords looked down and thought for a while, most of them leaned to the right. Only less than one-third of the people left on the left.

"This matter is not over!"

The lords on the left walked out of the official residence cursed and cursed.

"Yes, it's not over. But let's come to an end first." Earl Nantes tidied up his collar again, "Now, let's deal with this Caroling first."

"Calorin, take me as a hostage." Princess Navarre whispered behind the Earl of Ile-de-France. "Most of these new nobles do not know the confession of the Duke, and they all thought I was the Duke's fiancée."

"well!"

The Count of Ile de France smiled at the sky. Suddenly, he pushed Princess Navarra towards the group of lords.

"The princess of Navarra has nothing to do with this matter. Let her leave first, and then let us come and fight a war quickly!"

"nature."

Earl of Nantik waved his hand, and his men dragged her out of the official residence despite Princess Navarra's opposition.

The Count of Ile de France and his group even tightened their weapons and stared at the enemy in front of them.

But at this moment—

"Not good! Nothing good!"

A rushing cry came from the corridor.
