Chapter 4: Railway Bento

It was the first time in her life that the young lady stepped out of the village. Everything she saw felt new.

After the train started, she looked at the scenery outside and became even more excited.

"Yi Xing, look, there is a big river over there!

"Hmm, there are also fish."

"Yi Xing, there's such a big plain over there! You can already see the city! I've never seen such a distant horizon in the mountains!"

"Haha, after all, we are surrounded by mountains."

"Yi Xing, over there..."

Yi Xing took the trouble to reply to the eldest lady in a soft voice, and from time to time his gentle eyes moved from the window to the white-haired girl sitting next to him.

For the first time, he saw Erina's eyes shining with such vitality - just like the sunlight reflected by her long snow-white hair.

This made Yoshiyuki couldn't help but smile.

"Miss, do you still remember? The plain with the big river we are passing through now is where the surname Maekawa originally came from."

Yoshiyuki looked at Erina with a smile and said.

"The first guard of the Yida family was picked up from here. Because it was not far from the entrance of the Yida family's territory in ancient times, the child's surname was named Maekawa."

"Yeah, of course I remember it! When I heard it for the first time, I thought this surname was a bit too casual." Erina leaned on Yoshiyuki leisurely and said this enthusiastically.

The next moment, her stomach suddenly growled.

This reminded Maekawa that Erina had always wanted to experience what it would be like to eat a bento on the train.

Fortunately, soon a steward pushing a trolley entered the carriage.

It contains many snacks, drinks and limited-edition railway bento boxes in the train.

The lunch box is shaped like a torii gate.

It is filled with colorful dishes: egg rolls, mushroom slices, beef covered in black sauce, roasted chicken drizzled with mustard sauce, shredded seaweed, green peppers...

Because it looked so good, Erina couldn't bear to eat it for a while after buying it.

She stared and admired it for a long time, then reluctantly moved her chopsticks with a sigh of relief.

"Yi Xing, why don't you learn from others? The bento you made for me is all poorly presented. It's just piled on top of each other, like a garbage heap."

"Miss, you are such a picky eater. It's not easy for me to get up early every morning and cook for you in different ways. Let's not worry about such minutiae, okay?" Yoshiyuki watched as the eldest daughter prepared most of the side dishes.

Clip it directly into his food box, making him laugh and cry.

"Humph, what excuse are you looking for! This is a matter of attitude. The bento I make for you is carefully arranged every time!"

"But..." Yi Xing couldn't help complaining: "You do it just once a year on my birthday! And you don't even know how to use gas! I'm not the one coaching you throughout the process."

"Then I'm above average. Normally, how can a master cook for his servants? You have to be content, Yixing?"

Erina said this with a little pride, stretched out her little hand like a prank, and poked Yoshiyuki in the face.

The soft and slippery finger touch always makes Yi Xing feel a little itchy.

After that, the eldest lady tasted the beef, and then put half of the beef in the lunch box to Yi Xing's side, making his side dishes pile up like a mountain, almost overflowing.

“Is there something wrong with this beef too?”

"That's not true. You like to eat beef with a strong black pepper flavor, so I'll give you some more." Erina chuckled, then took a sip of her drink and complained again.

"What, this juice doesn't taste good, it's so sour! I gave it all to you... If I had known, I would have asked you to make a bento for me before I came out! I am still used to eating the food you cooked. If I didn't take you to Tokyo,

I'm afraid I'll starve to death."

"Okay, okay." Yi Xing reluctantly pushed his drink to the eldest lady: "You want to try mine? Orange soda, it's very sweet."

"Hmm, this is not bad!" She took a taste and was very satisfied, so she stayed.

Since the Yida family forbade Erina to eat out at restaurants, and Erina was very picky about food, she almost grew up eating Yoshiyuki's cooking.

In order to ensure that the eldest lady will not get tired of eating and have balanced nutrition, he spends a lot of time thinking about what to cook every day.

Yoshiyuki sincerely hopes that Erina can find a restaurant she likes in Tokyo.

It’s best to be near home and school.

In this way, he can finally free up part of his time to spend on more meaningful things.

Such as practicing swordsmanship and sleeping with nothing to do.

This train journey didn't last long.

Soon, they arrived in Yokohama and transferred to the Shinkansen.

Although the city of Yokohama also interested her greatly, Erina decided to go to Tokyo as soon as possible so that she could visit Akihabara before dark.

Erina had never seen such a dense crowd in her life, so she felt a little uncomfortable and at a loss.

Seeing this, Yi Xing proposed this.

"Miss, the Shinkansen won't arrive for a while. How about we go to the bathroom and change our clothes? The miko uniform is too eye-catching."

"That's right!" When the eldest lady said this, her tone suddenly hesitated: "Uh... wait. Forget it! I just remembered that I didn't bring any spare clothes."

"Ah?" Yi Xing was stunned for a moment: "You didn't throw all the clothes out just to get into the box, did you?"

"There's nothing we can do!" The eldest lady pulled out a stuffed dumpling that took up a lot of space from the box, held it in her arms and said confidently: "For example, I can't leave behind this beloved peripheral, right?!"

After hearing this, Yi Xing was speechless.

He just complained: "If I had known you were leaving today, I wouldn't have washed those piles of COS clothes for you in the morning! It exhausted me to death. Miss, you should bring some change of clothes. Isn't that a necessity?"

"What, other than you, do you have any other necessities? I brought a gift and that's enough!" Erina put her hands on her hips and said triumphantly: "Just buy a change of clothes now! Anyway, I have plenty of money."

This act of righteousness cannot be refuted. Although her family has always restricted her freedom, they have never given her less pocket money.

However, Erina never thought that it should be considered pocket money.

After all, a lot of important income for the family every year comes from the underworld witch, so it can only be regarded as business dividends.

For example, every year on the spring and autumn equinoxes, Erina casts a spell on a special Noh mask that she made in advance, and its price can reach hundreds of millions of yen.

The reason why it is so expensive is that this kind of noodle can be used in major ceremonies to ward off evil spirits and pray for blessings, and only two can be produced every year. Therefore, many famous families will rush to buy it, raising the price very high.

This Noh mask not only has special functions, but also has an extremely unique appearance.

An ordinary Nomian looks like a face that is difficult to tell whether it is crying or smiling.
