Chapter 2 Chapter 72 Who enlightens who

Chapter 2 Section 72

Who enlightens who

To shave, you have to shave your hair to save all living beings. In order to show that you have given up your worldly relationship and focus on the Buddha, Buddhists cut off their hair from the day they converted to Buddhism, and even sniffed scars on their heads. Of course, there are also those who have left their hair, but those are registered lay disciples, not personal teachings.[]

"Namo Amitabha." Speaking of Buddhism, Jingxuan quickly walked out of her previous shame. After proclaiming the Buddha's name, she said: "What fellow Taoist Li said was not bad, but Xiao Ni thought that we should not be bound by our body ceremonies, but only sincerity, right?"

After Jingxuan said that, she opened her bright eyes wide and looked at Li Yi, as if she was looking forward to Li Yi's recognition.

Li Yi was stunned. When did this little nun Jingxuan talk to him? He turned the Buddha's name over and over again, and was confident and calm in his conversation? How could he say so carefully today?

Thinking of Jingxuan's performance before and after, Li Yi quickly found the reason: the little nun must have loved her hair and was reluctant to cut it off, but the little nun could not find a reason in the Buddhist scriptures that he had always believed in, so the little nun could only comfort herself.

I really think that you dedicated your life to the Buddha Tathagata with a fearless and regretless spirit? It turns out that you still have some reservations. It is rare to see Jingxuan's childlike posture, Li Yi couldn't help but feel happy.

However, Li Yi did not reveal his face and pretended to be a serious scripture: "The Master said this is a bad thing. The Buddha did not say in the "Avatamsaka Sutra" that 'all Buddhas and all sentient beings are only one mind, and there is no other way.' From this we can see that the path to becoming a Buddha is still what we should do."

All Buddhas and all sentient beings have only one mind, and there is no difference between them. The meaning is that "Buddha" and "sentient beings" are the same in essence. This essence is "heart", which is what we often call "Buddha nature". In layman's terms, this sentence means "sentient beings are equal, and all sentient beings are Buddhas."

Since the "Buddha nature" is the same, why do some people become Buddhas and Bodhisattvas, while others are ordinary people? This is the role of practice.

The "Buddha nature" of Buddha Bodhisattva and ordinary people is like two pearls that are exactly the same, but the pearls of Buddha Bodhisattva are pure and dust-free, while the pearls of ordinary people are covered with dust. Only by practicing and removing the dust on the pearls can ordinary people become Buddhas.

Since the Buddha wrote the Buddhist verse of "Three Thousand Troubles" to enlighten the disciple who fell into the sea of suffering, Buddhists have believed that hair is also "the dust on the pearl" and must be removed. Becoming a Buddha is to go to the Western Paradise. Where can there be any troubles in the Western Paradise? It's just a joke.

After hearing Li Yi use Buddhist scriptures to refute him, Jingxuan's pretty face turned pale in an instant. Jingxuan has read Buddhist scriptures well since childhood. How could Li Yi not know what Jingxuan said?

This time, Jingxuan told Li Yi about the matter because she felt that Li Yi had a lot of wisdom in Buddhism and could always innovate, which was different from the records in Buddhist scriptures but was very convincing. It was beyond his own thoughts and thought-provoking. Perhaps Li Yi could find the true meaning of Buddhism and solve the "three thousand troubles" that has troubled him for more than ten years?

It turned out that fellow Daoist Li also thought I wanted to cut my hair off, otherwise how could fellow Daoist Li, who is a Taoist disciple, copy the Buddhist scriptures without changing a word? Sadly, I have always been weak in will and cannot make up my mind.

There was a voice in Jingxuan's heart that kept calling, thinking a little self-pity: I have always wanted to enlighten Fellow Daoist Li. Now it seems that what I really need to enlighten is myself.

Jingxuan pursed her lips, as if she wanted to say something, but she didn't know what to say. She was thinking quickly and her breathing seemed a little rapid, and her chest was rising and falling, as if there was some secret hidden inside.

……………………

Li Yi saw that the pear blossoms in Jingxuan's eyes were filled with rain, and she seemed to have suffered endless grievances. She was afraid that Jingxuan would cry out accidentally, and she secretly said that she would stop when she clicked, and don't play too much. If Jingxuan listened to her words, in order to strengthen her mind toward Buddha, she went back to find a scissor and made her bald with a "click" sound, which would be a big bald man.

Having said that, I feel sorry for Jingxuan like this. Even if I don’t regret Yu Jingxuan’s hair, I can’t stand Jingxuan’s appearance like this. Even if I go through fire and water, I will do whatever I want.

Li Yi looked up at the sky, stroked his chin and looked meditating, uh... Unfortunately, he was too young and had not grown a beard yet, otherwise he would have been able to live with the long beard and floating fairy style.

Li Yi shook his head and sighed: "Actually, Xiaodao disagrees with the Buddha's view of the 'Three Thousand Troubles'. Why is beautiful hair so much? He has to bear the 3,000 Troubles?"

"Ah" Jingxuan was hesitating whether to cut off her hair. Things were turning around in Li Yi's mouth. Her eyes were lit up. Her words were filled with a bit of urgency to seek knowledge. She asked: "What are the great ideas of Fellow Daoist Li? Can you even see the Buddha's words? And teach Yu Xiaoni..."

While talking, Jingxuan looked at Li Yi's eyes and looked at him with a bright look. There was a smile on his lips, as if all his reactions were as if Li Yi was expecting.

Li Yi had long known what he was thinking and had a different view of the orphans than the Buddha. The reason why he told the story of the "Avatamsaka Sutra" was just to see his expression. What was hateful is that he was foolishly cooperating with Li Yi.

Thinking of this, Jingxuan was immediately shy and psyched, her face swelling like a ripe apple, and it was about to drip bleeding. In desperation, Jingxuan stomped her feet, glared at Li Yi fiercely, and said coquettishly: "You... you bully Xiao Ni, why don't you say it?" Even the name "Fellow Daoist Li" that he had been talking about was replaced by "you".

As soon as he said that Jingxuan, who has good qualities, soon regretted it. Didn’t this violate the “anti-anger precept”? Jingxuan quickly clasped her hands together and said piously: “Namo Amitabha, I have sinned, so please do not blame Xiao Ni.”

Li Yi doesn’t blame him for any Bodhisattva. I believe in the Three Pure Ones. Seeing that the three famous girls in the world of cultivation, Jingxuan, who is responsible for saving all living beings in the world, is the young girl in the Guanyin Zen Temple in Putuo Mountain. Li Yi feels happy and can’t help but hold back his smile and laugh.

Hearing Li Yi's laughter, Jingxuan felt that even the root of her neck was red, and she wanted to use something to block Li Yi's mouth. After all, the ancient Buddha of Qinglan for more than ten years had not been spent in vain, so Jingxuan held the cold jade whisk in her hand tightly, ignored Li Yi, and lowered her head and recited "Namo Amitabha" over and over again.

Well...well, I was so funny that I was just laughing alone that I was trying to recite scriptures again. Li Yi coughed and said, "The so-called 'man's obedience to the earth, the earth obedience to the sky, the heaven obedience to the Tao, the Tao obedience to nature'. Life, old age, sickness and death in the world have their own fixed numbers. Since the Buddha said 'the mind is Buddha', why not follow the conditions and the law?"

Li Yi was proficient in Taoism Confucianism and theory, but he seemed to understand Buddhism but was not aware of it. However, he combined the discussions of ancient and modern times, and knew that Buddhism and Taoism were both transcendental religions. Their principles were the same. The "inaction" that Taoism advocated was almost the same as the "Nirvana" that Buddhism advocated. It was just that their expressions were different. If you really wanted to explore the ultimate and thoroughness, it was nothing more than "let it go naturally."

Li Yi's words are like Tao but not Tao, like Buddha but not Buddha, which combines the thoughts of Buddha and Tao with "nature".

Human hair is not as good as clothes on their bodies. Everyone has hair as soon as they are born. As they grow older, their hair is gradually getting longer. No one is born in clothes, although everyone will wear clothes after they are born.

Therefore, the "external objects" that are often said in practice are not bound by external objects, but cannot include hair, because hair is born naturally, but clothes are not.

According to the Dharma theory of the Buddhas and sentient beings in the Avatamsaka Sutra, a newborn baby has a pure and flawless "heart", so he is naturally a "Buddha". So how can the baby's hair be explained? Could it be that the "Buddha" was born with "troubles"?

Huineng, the Sixth Patriarch of Zen Buddhism, wrote a Buddhist verse: "There is no tree in Bodhi, and the mirror is not a platform. There is nothing in it, so where can dust be caused?" Since hair is born naturally, if you cut your hair to convert to Buddhism, isn't you troubled to get rid of "troubles"?

……………………

In fact, in Li Yi's opinion, the ornament of Buddhism is not only to remove the "three thousand worries", but also to identify the identity. Just like a Taoist priest who wants to tie a bun on his hair, this is a custom passed down from generation to generation, and there is no reason to be contained in it.

Jingxuan "does not know the true face of Mount Lu because she is in this mountain". She is entangled in finding an excuse for not cutting her hair, and she is just confused in the situation.

This time, Li Yi's debate was not too ambiguity, and there was no need to make Jingxuan go back and think about it like the previous few times. Jingxuan was well aware of Buddhist principles, and after a moment of thinking, she understood it and suddenly realized: "Friend Li's words were as straightforward as a wake-up call, which made Xiao Ni feel enlightened."

Don’t worry about cutting your hair. The problem that has troubled you for more than ten years has been solved. Jingxuan is of course happy and doesn’t care much about Li Yi’s teasing of him just now. She told Li Yi some anecdotes to his master: “Xiao Ni’s senior sisters and sisters are very envious of Xiao Ni’s hair for being able to keep her hair, especially Jing Yao’s junior sisters. Every time she cuts her hair, she has tears in her eyes and swallows speechlessly?”

After a pause, Jingxuan said with some joy: "Xiao Ni will definitely talk to her master about the Buddhist principles mentioned by fellow Taoist Li this time, so that we will not have to be ordained in the future."

This... The path will enlighten you today. Go back and enlighten your master. In the future, your master will enlighten the monks and nuns in the entire Jiuzhou. At that time, the monks and nuns in the entire world will recite Namo Amitabha with long hair...

Such a scene appeared in his mind, and Li Yi couldn't help but shivered. He also heard that Jingxuan's master, Master Dinghui, had a hot temper. If Master Dinghui knew about his "fooling" Jingxuan these days, would Master Dinghui borrow the purple gold bowl of Monk Huikong and ran all the way to Yunshan Sect to collect him?

Li Yi planned to strangle Jingxuan's thoughts to death in the cradle, and said seriously: "The teacher's words are wrong. Since everything goes with the flow and the teacher is not obsessed with his own hair, why should he be obsessed with the hair cut of his senior sisters? Whether to cut hair or not is the fate of his senior sisters and sisters, it is natural to be fine."

Generally speaking, plausible theories always sound very reasonable.

I was almost fainted by myself. Seeing that Jingxuan was indeed thinking, Li Yi was secretly happy, but he was unwilling to continue to get entangled in this issue. One day, Jingxuan felt that it was wrong and wanted to refute her. She had already run away from the sky. With Jingxuan's temperament, she would never say her words without convincing herself.

Li Yi quickly changed the topic and said, "It is rumored that Master Dinghui is meticulous, so how can he allow Master to retain his hair?"

When Li Yi talked about his master, Jingxuan couldn't help but answer, saying, "In fact, in order to cut off his hair, the master has punished Xiao Ni a lot. However, Xiao Ni was extremely stubborn when he was a child. He would rather kneel in front of the Bodhisattva for a few days and not eat. Later, Xiao Ni was so hungry that he was dying. The master was unable to cut Xiao Ni's hair after all."

Thinking of the love, pity and helplessness in the eyes when the master announced that he would not have to be slaughtered in the future and became an exception to the Guanyin Zen Temple in Putuo Mountain, Jingxuan couldn't help but smile on the corner of her mouth.

It was this smile, like a shyness blooming quietly in the water lotus, and it happened to be looked at by Li Yi standing opposite Jingxuan. In a trance, Li Yi felt the breeze blowing on his face and the spring flowers blooming.

"Master Dinghui can take it and put it down, and he did a great thing. Xiaodao admired it very much." Thinking of Jingxuan's stubborn appearance, Li Yi also found it funny and said, "Master's long hair is draped in her shoulders, so why should she wear that black hat to cover her beautiful black hair all over her head?"

It would be fine if Li Yi didn't say it, but when Jingxuan's face, which had finally become normalized, was red again. Jingxuan seemed to remember something, so she quickly picked up the black hat on the bed and put it on, and tied her hair between them.

Uh... Li Yi was also a little embarrassed, but Jingxuan's reaction was too big.

Neither of them spoke, and the room became quiet and overflowed in an instant. The leaves of the banana trees planted in the yard swayed gently in the breeze, and were reflected on the window by the sunlight, filling the freshness of the banana trees, surrounding it into a faint ambiguity, which penetrated into Li Yijingxuan's heart...

Not knowing whether time was passing, Jingxuan seemed a little uneasy and habitually had to fold her hands together again. At this time, the shop owner was shouting loudly outside, and it turned out that it was lunch time.

Somehow, Jingxuan let out a long sigh and said to Li Yi: "Fellow Daoist Li, do you want to go out for food together?"

Is it time for dinner? Li Yi frowned. Why didn’t Su Mei and Xiaobai see you today? Where have they been? I thought Su Mei was bored and took Xiaobai out shopping, but I haven’t come back yet. Don’t encounter any situation.

It is a turbulent time now. Although Li Yi knew that Su Mei Xiaobai had the ability to protect himself, he was still worried, so he said, "Master, let's go first, Xiaodao also needs to find his junior sister."

"Oh" Jingxuan responded and said, "Since that's the case, Xiao Ni will leave first." After that, Jingxuan suddenly seemed to remember something and turned to Li Yi and said, "If you have free time, can Xiao Ni come and ask fellow Taoist for some of my true meanings?"

Jingxuan completely forgot that she wanted to save Li Yi from the "evil demon heretics" a few days ago.

Even though he knew very well that he was just a trick of water in Buddhism, looking at Jingxuan's gem-like eyes, how could Li Yi say no, and nodded.

Seeing Li Yi nodding, Jingxuan felt relieved, and even the steps to leave felt lighter.

……………………

When Li Yi found Su Mei, Su Mei was sitting on a huge rock by the Poyang Lake holding Xiaobai.

The sun hangs in the sky in the west, and the sunlight scatters on the shimmering lake surface, like broken brocade, spreading from light to dark, spreading out like this, connecting it with the blue sky in the distance. Dots of white float slowly between the water and the sky. I don’t know if it was a cloud or a gull.

Su Mei didn't care about Li Yi's arrival, as if the beautiful scenery in front of her had nothing to do with her. Her petite back seemed so small between the vast water and the sky. Su Mei seemed to be listening to the sad melody played by the lake water slapped the shore, and also seemed to be standing under the accumulation of huge rocks standing by the Poyang Lake for billions of years of loneliness.

However, when Xiaobai saw Li Yi coming, he jumped out of Su Mei's arms and walked quickly beside Li Yi, with a look of worry, and shouted at Li Yi "whimper" in his mouth, asking Li Yi to persuade Su Mei.

Li Yi approached Su Mei, and was about to ask what happened, Su Mei spoke first and said, "Little Taoist, do you know the story of King Wu's attack on Zhou?"

Although Su Mei's tone was calm, Li Yi heard the unwillingness and helplessness. Li Yi's heart skipped a beat and vaguely understood why Su Mei became like this.

Li Yi thought about it and replied: "There is a record in history books about King Wu's attack on Zhou, saying that King Zhou was unrighteous. King Wu and his military advisor Jiang Ziya led the 800 princes to attack..."

"Little Taoist priest, do you think it is the vixen Su Daji who was confused by the originally wise and powerful King Zhou of Shang, Huangyin, who was injustice?" Su Mei suddenly interrupted Li Yi's words, and his voice gradually became rapid and sharp.

History is an innocent little girl. You can dress her up in a bunch of flowers or strip her naked, provided that you have the strength to change history.

"Last time after saving Mei'er, you were in Bibotan, Yunshan, the master told Xiaodao about the story of the Nine-tailed Fox clan. Xiaodao had some understanding of the grand strategy of the gods that caused the collapse of the sky and the earth to break through thousands of years ago." Seeing that he was suspected by Su Mei, Li Yi shook his head with a wry smile and said, "If Xiaodao also thinks it was the fault of senior Su Daji, he will not go to Qingqiu Mountain in the East China Sea with Mei'er this time."

In this world, success, king, defeat, bandits, no right or wrong are there, only different positions.

……………………

Thank you all for watching the rewards from Xiao Wukong 12 fellow Taoists. They are all old friends.
