Chapter 777(1/2)

The greatest building that Kadega has ever seen so far is the Violet Castle located on Cross Island outside Dalaran. Its magnificent spire covered with thick bluestone eaves and the magnificent Kenreto Hall made Kadega proud, and the castle was named after it. During the journey through Lordaeron to Azeroth, no building can be compared with this solemn Kenreto base camp.

Until he came to Stormwind.

The two flew over the night sky as before, and this time the young mage was sure that he fell asleep while driving the griffin in the cold night. The knowledge that Medivh stuffed into his brain was still effective. He was sure that he could use his knees to control this winged raptor and feel relaxed. Moreover, the part stored in his head this time was no longer painful, but it was a little muffled. The nerves had healed and scarred. He received this piece of knowledge information, but still realized that this was originally a foreign object outside his body.

When Kadega woke up, the sun arched out of the horizon behind him, which shocked him so much that the huge flying beasts deviated slightly, almost falling down Medivh for a while. In front of him, the magnificent Stormwind City was bathed in the morning light.

This is a city of gold and silver. The walls shine like the holy grail wiped by the city lord under the morning light. The roof is dazzling like silver. Kardag once thought they were inlaid with countless gems.

The young mage shook his head and blinked, and then he saw that the golden city wall was purely stone, but some places were polished very smoothly, while others were carved with complex and exquisite patterns. The silver roof was completely made of dark blue slate, and the gems he saw were actually dewdrops condensed from the roof reflecting the light of dawn.

However, Kardga was still shocked by the size of the city, even in Lordaeron. Looking down from a high altitude, it occupied his vision. He counted that there were three groups of walls surrounding the central fortress, and divided several areas by secondary barriers. No matter which direction he looked, he could not take a full view of the city.

Even at dawn, the city has begun to become active. Smoke is gradually rising, and people are already clustered in open-air markets and some public places. Large carriages are loaded with farmers rushing to the fields, and they are bulky out of the main city gate. The neat and orderly farmland spread along the city wall, and the hem of the city's skirt extends almost to the horizon.

Most buildings were unrecognizable by Kardga. In his opinion, the towers might be schools or barns; there were some giant water trucks on a rushing river, but he could not guess what they were for; a fire suddenly appeared in the distance to the right, from the casting ground? The captured dragon? Or what accident happened? It is unknown.

This is the most magnificent city Kadega has ever seen, the heart of the city is Ryan's castle.

There is no doubt that the walls of this building seem to be really made of gold and silver adorned around the windows. The roof of the royal family is covered with blue slate, luxurious and mysterious, like sapphire. On its countless spires, Kadega can see a slender pennant with the pattern of the Azeroth lion, which is the family emblem of King Ryan and a symbol of this land.

The castle has countless outbuildings, towers, halls, complex and complete, like a small city. The vaulted corridor spans between buildings and its length is amazing. Kardag believes that it is absolutely impossible without the help of magic.

Maybe such a structure was built entirely through magic, Kardgar thought. At the same time, he realized that this might be one of the reasons why Medivh is so cherished here.

The older wizard raised a hand and circled a flat tower on top. Medivh pointed down once, twice, three times. He wanted Kardag to land first.

Kadega pulled himself back from his casual thoughts and quickly descended the griffin. The huge eagle-headed beast slapped the giant wings like sails back, slowing down and landing accurately.

A group of servants had already been waiting, and they rushed forward to take the reins and put a strong hood on the griffin. The memory of the foreign land told Kardag that this thing was similar to the Falcon man's net, used to limit the vision of the bird of prey. A servant carefully placed a bucket of cow's internal organs with remaining heat in front of the griffin's sharp beak.

As soon as Kardga slid down from the griffin's back, Sir Lothar came in person and greeted him warmly. The tall man was dressed in a gorgeous robe and sleeveless jacket. He was covered with a carved breastplate and decorated with a cloak of gold and silver wire, and looked increasingly burly.

"Apprentice!" said the Sir, holding Kardga's hand in his thick big hand, "I'm glad to see you're still employed!"

"Your Excellency," responded Khadgar, trying not to retreat under the strong man's grip, "We flew all night to come here. I don't..."

Kardgar's next statement was swept away by a whirlwind of wings and the screams of the griffon. Medivh's mount turned around in the air, and the landing of the great mage was not elegant at all. The huge flying beast glided over, surpassing the width of the tower and almost fell to the other side. Medivh tightly held the reins. In fact, the griffon's large front paws grabbed the jagged guardrail and almost planted the older mage next to it.

Kardga rushed forward without waiting for Sir Lossa to speak, and the blue-clothed servants who were receiving the reception followed closely, and Lossa followed behind with rumbling steps.

When they reached Medivh, he had already gotten off his mount and handed the reins to a nearest attendant. "Damn the wind!" the older mage said angrily, "I told you that this was a wrong place to land, but no one listened to the mage. Beautiful landing, boy," the mage added as the servants hugged the mount and tried to calm it down.

"Med," Lothar extended his hand to greet him. "It's great that you can come."

Medivh frowned. "I rushed over at full speed," said the magician unhappily. "Sooner or later you will handle things yourself without me, you know."

I wonder if Lothar was surprised by Medivh's attitude, and he said nothing about it. "Anyway, I'm glad to see you. His Majesty the King..."

"I have to wait," Medivh continued. "Take me to the room where something went wrong. Now, no, I know the way myself. You say it's Hagra and Hagarin. Then that's the way." As the great master walked towards the spiral side ladder of the tower. "You have to go down five floors, cross a bridge, and then go up three floors! Awful landing point!"

Kardga looked at Lothar. The big man touched the sparse head with his strong hands. He shook his head. Then he followed, Kardga followed him.

As they walked down the spiral ladder, Medivh was no longer there, and although he could still hear his chatter and curses, these voices drifted away.

"He is in good condition," said Lothar. "I'll take you to the mage's room. We'll find him there."

"He was very excited last night," said Kadega with apologies. "He was out, and it seemed that your call had reached Karazan just after he came back."

"Have he told you what it is, apprentice?" Lothar asked. Kardag had to shake his head.

Warrior Anduin Lothar was frowning deeply. "The two amazing wizards of Azeroth died, their bodies were almost burnt beyond recognition, and their hearts were pulled out of their chests and died in their secret room." Sir Lothar hesitated for a while, as if choosing the right wording. "There are signs of demonic activity there. So I sent the fastest messenger to invite the great wizard. Maybe he can let us know what happened."

"Where is the body?" Medivh shouted as they caught up. Now the three of them are on another spire of the castle, looking down at the entire city through the large bay window opposite the door.

The room was in a mess, as if it had been searched by dirty orcs. All the books were pulled off the bookshelf, the scrolls were opened, and some were torn to pieces. The alchemy instruments were smashed to pieces, powder and ointment were sprinkled all over the floor, and even the furniture was destroyed.

There is a ring made of powder in the center of the room, and an inscription is engraved on the floor. The ring consists of two concentric circles, with mana-filled text embedded between the two circles. The inscription on the floor is engraved very deeply and filled with sticky dark liquid. There are two scorch marks of one person's size between the ring and the window.

As far as Khadgar knows, such a ring has only one purpose.

Book managers in Roland City often warn of such things.

"Where is the body?" Medivh repeated. Kardag was glad he didn't have to answer the question. "Where are the bodies of Hagra and Hagarin?"

"They were removed after they were found," said Losa calmly. "It is not very appropriate to leave them here. We don't know when you will arrive."

"You mean you don't know if I'll come," Medivh snapped. "Okay. OK. I can still save some clues. Who has entered this room?"

"The great wizard Hagra and Lord Hagarin," Lothar spoke.

"Uh, of course," Medivh said sarcastically. "Of course they have come. Since they die here, who else?"

"One of their servants found the body," Lothar continued. "I was called over and I brought a few guards to deal with the body. They were not buried yet, maybe you want to check them."

Medivh was already in deep thought. "Well? Check the body or the guards? It doesn't matter, I'll talk about it later. So, are you talking about a servant, yourself, and about four guards? Now there are me and my apprentice. Is there no one else?"

"I can't think of anyone else," Losa replied.

The great wizard closed his eyes and muttered some words. He didn't know whether he was cursing or casting spells. Then he suddenly opened his eyes: "Interesting. Young man."

Kardga took a deep breath, "Grand Master"

"I need your youth and lack of jingyàn. If you see too much, you will be limited by jingyàn. I need a brand new vision. Now, don't be afraid to ask questions. Come here and stand in the middle of the room. No, don't cross the ring. We don't know if there is still magic left on it. Standing here. Now, what do you feel?"

"I saw the destroyed room," Kardga spoke.

"I didn't say look," Medivh said sharply. "I asked what I felt."

Kardgar took a deep breath and cast a small spell. This simple divination spell he used hundreds of times in Violet Castle can make the caster's senses sharper and is often used to find lost things, especially for finding things that others want to hide. But from the beginning of singing Kardgar, I found something wrong. The magic energy in this room is quite sluggish. Usually the magic flow is light and active, but now it feels much more sticky, and in fact it is almost the same as ordinary liquid. Kardgar has never had this experience. He wondered whether it was the magic ring that caused this phenomenon or the energy left by the dead mages themselves.

This feeling of stagnation is like the corrupt air that has been sealed in the room for many years. Kadega tried hard to gather energy together, but they were resisting, and they were extremely reluctant to follow his will.

Kardgar tried hard to gather more magical energy in the room, and his expression became more and more serious. If it were elsewhere, the spell would be very simple.

Suddenly, the young mage was immersed in the strong sense of evil with magic energy. This feeling was oppressed and surrounded him. It was him who pulled out the bricks at the bottom of the wall, and the whole wall fell on him. The power of dark magic covered his head, crushing Kadega's spell and pressing him to kneel down. He couldn't help but scream.

Medivh immediately came to him and helped the young mage get up. "There, there," said the great mage, "I didn't expect you to do so well. Good job, good."

"What's going on?" Kardga tried hard to say something and suddenly recovered. "I've never tried this feeling. Heavy, stiff, and suffocating."

"Then this is good news for you," Medivh replied. "Fortunately, you can find it and get through it. The magical energy here is an extremely distorted effect left by previous events."

"You mean something like 'haunted'?" Kadega asked. "Even in Karazan, I didn't..."

"No, not that kind," said Medivh. "It's even worse. These two mages were summoning the demons at the time. What you felt was the aura of depravity. One demon had been here. It killed the poor Hagra and Hagarin, two stupid people with high magic power."

A moment of silence. Then Lothar said, "Devil? In the king's tower? I can't believe it..."

"Oh. Believe it," replied Medivh. "For any wizard, no matter how knowledgeable, wise, powerful, always more power, more knowledge, and more mystery are for them to ask for. I think those two people fell into this trap and summoned the power of the dark world, and paid the price. Fools. They are friends and colleagues. They are all fools."

"What should I do?" asked Lothar. "Protective measures must be needed. This is a mysterious energy ring."

"It's easy to destroy," said Medivh, leaning over to observe the blood stained by the two wizards, glittering rings. He reached down and showed a thin straw on the gradually cooled stone floor. "Ahhh! A small straw. If this thing was here when they began the summoning ceremony, then all the spells and amulets in the world could not protect them. The demon would only think that this ring was a passage into our world. It would run out with the fiery fire of hell and attack the fools who led him into this world. I've seen this before."

Kadega shook his head. The dark force that had just been oppressed from all sides seemed to dissipate a little, allowing him to restore his mind. He looked around the room and completely saw the scene after the disaster that the demon tore everything in the room. If a straw destroyed the circular magic circle, then after such a catastrophe, it must have changed wèizhi without staying in its original place.

"What was the condition when the body was found?" Khadga asked.

"What?" Medivh said, his tone of sternness almost shocked Kardag.

"Sorry," Kardga answered immediately. "You said I should ask questions."

"Yes, of course," Medivh's tone softened a little. He said to the King's Warriors: "So, Anduin Lothar, what was the condition when the body was found?"

"When I came in, they fell to the ground. The servant did not move them," said Lothar.

"Face up or face down, your lord?" Kadega asked, trying to remain calm. He could feel the cold eyes of the older wizard. "He is facing the magic circle or the window?"

Lothar began to recall: "Face toward the magic circle, face down. Yes, yes. Their bodies were burned, and we had to turn them over to confirm that they were Hagra and Hagarin."

"What is your intention, young man?" asked the great wizard, now sitting next to the open window, stroking his beard.

Kadega looked at the two scorched marks between the broken magic circle and the window, trying to treat the two of them as just two corpses instead of the mages who had been. "If you attack others from the front, they will fall backwards. If you attack from the back, they will fall forward. Is the window open when you come in?"

Lothar looked at the open bay window, of course he was unintentionally browsing the magnificent cityscape outside the window. "Yes. No, I remember it. But it might be opened by the servant. There was a terrible stench at that time, and first of all, this attracted attention. I can go and ask."

"No need," said Medivh. "When your servant came in, the window should be open." The great wizard stood up and approached the scorch mark. "So you think, young people," he said, "Hagra and Hagarin were standing here, watching the magic circle, and something came in from behind the window and attacked them from behind." He slapped the back of his head with his palm. "They fell forward and were burned here."

"Yes, sir," said Kardga. "I mean, that's a speculation."

"Good speculation," said Medivh. "But I'm afraid it's wrong. First of all, these two wizards stood in this wèizhi, and there was nothing else except looking at the magic circle. It means that they were summoning demons. Such a magic circle had no other purpose."

"But..." Kadega spoke. But the great wizard's cold eyes frozen his words in his throat.

"Secondly," continued Medivh, "although an attacker with a short stick can solve the two mages from behind, the damage caused by the dark energy of the demon is different. If the beast spews out flames, it will burn the two standing people and take their lives. Just after being burned, their bodies fall forward. Didn't you say that the front and back of the corpse are burnt?" he asked Lothar.

"Yes," replied the King's Warrior.

Medivh raised his palm in front of him. "The demon was burning the front. Hagra (Hagalin) turned forward and the flame spread to his back. Unless the demon attacked Hagra from behind. Turn them over to make sure the front was burning, and then turn them over. It is impossible that the demons were not so organized in their work."

Kardga felt his face heat up from embarrassment. “I’m sorry. I just speculate.”

"Good speculation," Medivh said quickly. "It's just wrong. What you said makes sense, the window should be open, because the demon is the tower that left there, and it should be out of the city now."

Losa resisted a curse and then asked, "Can you be sure?"

Medivh nodded. "Totally sure. But it may be knocked down now. Even if you want to kill fools like Hagra and Haglin while you are not careful, you should use the most powerful ones even if you don't use up all your skills."

"I can organize a search team right away," said Losa.

"No need," said Medivh. "I want to deal with it myself. There is no need to sacrifice good people for unworthy lives. Of course, I want to look at the bodies so I can know what kind of things we are going to deal with."

"We moved the body to a colder room in the wine cellar," said Lothar, "I can take you there."
To be continued...
