Chapter 6, Prodigy (2)
After hearing Hong Chengyan's words, Chen Hongshou couldn't help but raise his head and laughed, and said, "Brother Yanhao is so modest. If you don't say anything else, just the word Brother Yanhao can be passed down to future generations and immortal. Brother, do you think so?"
Zheng Sen naturally knew the reason why everyone carried the flower sedan chair, so he said, "Although the boy didn't know much and read a few books, he looked at Mr. Hong's calligraphy and did not recognize any of them, but he thought it was very beautiful."
When Hong Cheng-chan heard this, he couldn't help but smile. If it were an adult who didn't even recognize anything he wrote, Hong Cheng-chan would probably despise others' shameless face. But the children definitely didn't know these things, and the praise they said was naturally sincere, so Hong Cheng-chan was very happy when he heard this. But he smiled and said to Chen Hongshou: "Brother Zhang Hou's paintings are far more than my words. Brother Zhang Hou said this. Could it be that his own paintings will be passed down to future generations and immortal."
"My paintings can naturally be passed down to immortality in future generations. How could this be doubtful?" Chen Hongshou did not give in and directly admitted it. "If my paintings are not good, Brother Yanhao would not let me draw this painting that Cheng Lingtang, wouldn't that be unfilial?"
"My mother believed in Buddhism and always thought of going to Kaiyuan Temple to worship Buddha, but she was not in good health and could not go out. Now that she has this painting, she can also take this to see it and comfort her heart. I really want to thank Brother Zhang Hou." Hong Chengsheng bowed.
"You are so unhappy, you are just too polite." Chen Hongshou smiled, but suddenly turned his head and asked Zheng Sen: "Brother, your father believes in Buddhism, do you believe in Buddhism?"
Zheng Sen lowered his head and thought for a while, and replied, "I believe it, I don't believe it. Some believe it, some don't believe it."
This answer was obviously beyond the expectations of the two. The two looked at each other, and Chen Hongshou asked again: "But you tell me, what do you believe and what do you don't?"
"I believe in 'Do not do any evil, do all good', believe in the Buddha's heart to give to sentient beings, but do not believe in the spiritual mountain and the Avici Hell outside the world, and do not believe in the consequences of good and evil in this life and the next life." Zheng Sen replied, although his voice was immature, he had a sonorous aura.
"What's the reason here? You guy may tell me? Moreover, if you don't believe in cause and effect, then you can do everything?" Hong Chengqing asked.
If you don’t believe in cause and effect, you will not do anything. Hong Chengjun and Chen Hongshou naturally knew about this truth. Now that you ask this, you actually have the intention of taking the school exam.
Zheng Sen said solemnly: "I read the Analects of Confucius that 'benevolence is far from benevolence, I want benevolence to be the most benevolent', and I also say 'Be kind to benevolence is not by others'. I read the Three Character Classic and saw that 'At the beginning of a person, it is good in nature', and we can see that the heart of benevolence is originally owned by human beings, not from outside. Therefore, 'Don't do evil, and do good' is naturally good, and we must believe it. As for the cause and effect, the kind-hearted man who is kind and the kind of man who kills his body and sacrifices his body for righteousness, how is it for future blessings? If it is for future blessings, what is the difference between the kind-hearted man who is kind and the kind of businessmen who are kind-hearted?"
The two of them were shocked when they looked at Zheng Sen's face again and saw the sunlight passing through the branches and leaves of the tall soapberry tree beside them, illuminating his little face, with a slight halo.
Zheng Sen continued to preach: "Lu Fangweng's poem "Showing the Son" says: 'Die, I know that everything is empty, but I am sad that I will not see the same thing in the nine provinces. The king's army settles north on the Central Plains, and the family sacrifices are not forgotten to tell him.' From this point of view, Fangweng should not believe that there is a spirit after death, but his loyalty to the king and the country will not change even if he dies. This is a true loyal minister and righteous man. I read "Mencius" again, which says, "Whatever you want is more than living, and what you hate is more than dead." Therefore, the heart of kindness is originally higher than life and death. Cutting flesh and cutting off your head and giving to sentient beings. Why do you need any cause and effect retribution as you wish? And a gentleman is careful to be alone, in order not to deceive himself, but not because there are gods and Buddhas staring at him, he will go to hell. So, why do I need to believe in cause and effect retribution?"
"If it were according to my friend's words, why did the Buddha talk about these karma and retribution?" Chen Hongshou unknowingly changed his name to Zheng Sen, and seemed to really regard him as a friend who can cultivate moral studies.
"When I was in Japan, I heard a monk preach the Diamond Sutra, saying that Elder Subhuti asked the Buddha, "Good man, good woman, how should he stay in Abudala Samyaksambodhicitta, how should he stay in his heart? "The Buddha replied, "Good man, good woman, he is born in Abudala Samyaksambodhicitta, he should stay in this way, and subdue his heart." At that time, I didn't understand, so I asked the monk: "Isn't the Buddha said the same as he said?" The monk told me that when Elder Subhuti asked this, his heart was full of sentient beings, without a trace of selfish desire. Therefore, Elder Subhuti had already stayed in this way and had subdue his heart. So the Buddha told him, "You should stay in this way, and subdue his heart." This is the ultimate meaning.
This means that you can truly put down your butcher's knife and become a Buddha on your own. This is also the sudden enlightenment of Zen. However, not everyone in the world has such an understanding, and the Buddha can only teach you the second meaning to avoid evil. Therefore, the Buddha wants to talk about the Pure Land of Hell. Besides, the Buddha does not lie, and there is also the Pure Land of Hell. If a kind-hearted man, if Confucius "food and drink water, he will also be happy in it." Yan Hui, "people cannot bear the worries, and Hui will not change his happiness." On the contrary, Qin Hui dreamed that Wang was wearing shackles and locks and cried and said, "The incident has been revealed in the east window!" Although he was in a high position, he was dressed in brocade clothes and food, he was unable to calm his mind, his dreams were restless, he was not willing to eat, and he could not sleep at peace. Isn't this the body going to hell? Therefore, the Buddha said that cause and effect."
After saying this, Hong Cheng-chan and Chen Hongshou were both stunned. After a long time, Chen Hongshou asked, "How old is my friend this year? How many books have you read?"
"The boy is 8 years old this year and has been in Japan before he was seven years old." Zheng Sen lowered his head and replied. He knew that he seemed to have accidentally acted a little too much, and hurriedly thought about some things to make up for it. "There are few Japanese books, and the Four Books are rare to find all of them. My mother helps the boy borrow them everywhere. The Japanese cherish these books, and they are definitely not allowed to borrow them back and read them. The boy can only read them at other people's houses. From time to time, the owner goes out or else, and there is no need to read them. Therefore, the boy has only read some of the "Four Books" in fragments, which is very scattered. Recently, he was able to connect those things. It was just that the boy was stupid, but in his heart, these things still couldn't connect them."
After hearing this, Hong Chengyan couldn't help but smile bitterly: "If you are stupid like this, you ask us to buy a rope in the street market and hang it? You borrow the Four Books yourself and have such insights. This is really... Brother Zhang Hou, the ancients said that there were people who were born to know it, and I believed it today."
Zheng Sen was about to say a few words of modesty, but a servant ran over from a distance and said, "Master, the master is looking for you." Zheng Sen hurriedly said goodbye to the two of them, and both of them said, "Your father is calling me, go quickly." Zheng Sen followed the servant.
After Zheng Sen left, Hong Chengyan saw that the ink traces on the painting had been dried up, so he asked the book boy to put away the painting and then took Chen Hongshou to wander around the temple while talking about the sudden emergence of the child prodigy.
"I really didn't expect that there would be such a child in Brother Yanhao's hometown. This child is not a person in the pool, and his parents will not say that he will become famous in the future. I am afraid that the people of the Ming Dynasty will be able to receive his kindness." Chen Hongshou smiled. It was obvious that encountering Zheng Sen made him feel good.
"It's still a little too early to say that we should benefit all the people. However, this son is indeed extraordinary. If God does not die in the early days, I will be a great scholar in the Ming Dynasty, but it is true." Hong Cheng-chan also replied with a smile.
Chen Hongshou nodded, suddenly he didn't know what he remembered, and couldn't help laughing. Hong Chengsheng hurriedly asked, "Why did Brother Zhang Hou laugh at?"
"I...I..." Chen Hongshou actually laughed harder and finally stopped laughing and replied, "I just suddenly remembered something fun. To be honest, most of the friends' moral knowledge nowadays are not as good as those who wear a headscarf when they enter school. But I don't know what his teacher Meng looks like when he teaches him. I'm afraid I don't know who looks more like a teacher."
Speaking of this, Chen Hongshou couldn't help laughing again.
"I remembered this." Hong Chengzhen said, "A few days ago, I heard that a child prodigy in this county had appeared. In a few months, his father hired several Mengshi for him, including some students. But in a few days, these teachers all claimed that they were not talented and did not dare to be the teacher of this child prodigy, and they all quit the school by themselves. When I heard the news, I thought it was a child who was both naughty and a little clever and loved to pick teachers. Today, I think the child prodigy in this legend is probably Xiao Jun Zheng Sen. Xiao Jun Zheng would never be rude to Master Mengshi. However, as his Mengshi, he really can't be a scholar. Even if you and I are a little numb."
"My friend Zheng Sen doesn't need to be a teacher anymore. What he needs is a teacher who preaches and learns. It is a great pleasure for life to gain talents from all over the world and educate them. But this talent in the world is not easy to educate. If I don't have enough virtues and knowledge and teach them, I feel guilty. If I were to leave the school, I would have to leave. However, if I don't have a great scholar's guidance, relying on friends Zheng Sen to study by himself alone will probably delay him. Unfortunately, he is still a little too young. If he is a few years older and enters school, I would be willing to lead him to meet his mentor." Chen Hongshou stopped laughing at this time, but said seriously.
As the two of them said this, they walked through a yard gate, but saw that the cinnabar plums in the yard were blooming in full bloom, with a faint fragrance that made people feel refreshed.
"This monk Kongming hides such good plum blossoms! But he didn't ask me to see him earlier. He is really not a good monk!" Hong Chengyan cursed with a smile.
With this sentence, a monk suddenly appeared behind the plum blossom tree. The monk clasped his hands together and smiled slightly and bowed to the two: "The donor is talking about his shortcomings, but it is not the style of a gentleman." But it is Monk Kongming.
Hong Chengguan and Monk Kongming are old friends, so naturally they don’t take this to heart. The two laughed and Hong Chengguan introduced Chen Hongshou to Kongming, and the three of them started talking. After a few words, Hong Chengguan found that Monk Kongming seemed to have something to do in his heart, so he asked, “Monk, if you have something to do, why don’t you say it out and I’ll think about it for you.”
