688 Challenge the Limit

"Mad Max 4" is considered an anti-genre film not only because of its anti-hero narrative, but also because of its clear visual style.

In the movie, the design of each chariot is unique and novel, and even the uses and principles of each chariot are different. The tires that have never been shot or blown up in the rain of bullets in the "Fast and Furious" series are completely solved under George's unique petal tire iron cover, and it also perfectly caters to the aesthetic standards of heavy metal rock throughout the movie.

This is George's advantage and the law of success in the film. It is no exaggeration to say that the whole film is filled with rock blood.

"I like it, but..." Lance had a little uncertainty for the first time.

"Is there any other problem?" George's rebellious question interrupted Lance's doubts and looked at Lance with a smile. His peaceful eyes had a powerful force. Unlike the top bosses such as Barry Mayer and Robert Eiger, this is a kind of wisdom accumulated over the years, gentle but thick.

The smile on the corner of Lance's mouth couldn't help but outline. He shouldn't hesitate, nor should he be worried. Just like different attempts during the "City of Sin" period, he was always breaking through himself and constantly challenging his limits. This time, he shouldn't be different, even if this is the jumping off the cliff.

Suddenly, Lance realized that "Mad Max 4" can actually be said to be an upgraded version of "City of Sin". Perhaps the picture style is completely different, but the spiritual core that implements it all has the same effect. "If I remember correctly, "City of Sin" is much bolder than my idea." George's words made Lance raise his head, stunned for a moment, and then realized that the two people's thoughts were actually connected together again. Lance shook his head with a smile, "I just thought you would want to pick up the guide and shoot this work in person."

"Oh, trust me, I won't miss it." George's hearty laughter buzzed, "But I'm more inclined to be an associate director, or..." George looked at Lance deeply, "co-producer." Lance tilted his head, seemed a little puzzled, and looked at George with concentration, "I'm working on another work, 'Happy Big Foot'. To be honest, this work took far more time than I imagined, and the technical problems are really fascinating, right? I originally planned to be released in the summer next year, but now it seems that it must be postponed until the end of next year. This is why I am now in New York. Our entire production team is here, and four teams gather together to produce it together, but there are still many problems to overcome."

Lance suddenly realized, and George continued, "I think you should hope to start shooting as soon as possible. Now is the best time, isn't it?"

Although it was not stated explicitly, George obviously meant something. It seems that before today's meeting, George had also inquired about the news and had a little hearing about Chaos Pictures' current situation.

"I thought everyone wanted to cooperate with a big film company." Lance's words also hid a deep meaning: Since George already knew Lance's current situation, shouldn't he avoid it?

George chuckled, "You know, sometimes it's very interesting to watch those big companies fall apart." Lance couldn't help but smile, and George continued, "So, have we reached a consensus? Your next work has already been settled? Can I start looking forward to it?"

"Screenwriter and director?" Lance raised his eyebrows. Today's negotiations went surprisingly smoothly, and he also gained a lot. The conversation with George was relaxed and interesting, which also inspired Lance's ambition. He not only wanted to break the deadlock, but also wanted to truly shoot a classic masterpiece that has been recorded in history. The pressure on his shoulders was extremely heavy, but Lance felt the powerful momentum rushing in his blood.

George looked at Lance's right hand, held it strongly, and gave a positive reply, "Screenwriter and director."

From "City of God" to "killing people with a knife" to "City of Sin", Lance showed enough ability, which was amazing; in today's conversation, Lance showed enough wisdom and depth, which was trustworthy. If possible, George certainly hoped that this work would be filmed by himself, but now, George couldn't help but start to look forward to "Mad Max 4" radiating an amazing and different vitality in Lance's hands.

"Co-producer?" When Lance was filming "City of Sin", he knew that George Miller, like Frank Miller, were all people who devoted themselves to their works. Their understanding of their works was beyond the reach of others. If he wanted to ensure the quality of "Crazy Max 4", it was very necessary to listen to their opinions.

George shook his right hand again, "Co-producer."

This was the most smooth negotiation in Lance, except for "hard fruit candy", and it could almost be said to be a hit. Such a conversation was very simple, involving no interests or conspiracy, and it was just communication between film lovers. Even if the two sides were red in dispute, the pure happiness made the nirvana in it. This reminded Lance of the last time he was on Broadway and the days before the establishment of Diorama Film. It seemed that everything was so simple, with dreams and passion, he could survive every difficulty and obstacle with full power.

This feeling has been a long time since.

Looking at George in front of him, a gentle smile always hung on his honest and kind face, not shining, but warm and friendly. This... seems to be the feeling of trust. The sudden strangeness made Lance feel a little embarrassed. He let go of his right hand, chuckled and looked away, covering up his inner fluctuations, "So, do you have any suggestions?"

The cooperation has been achieved, but this is just the beginning of a new challenge. Lance clearly knows that "Mad Max 4" will be the most severe challenge since his rebirth. The slightest relaxation may lead to a loss. He does not like the feeling of failure, nor does he like to live up to George's trust.

"First of all, I would suggest that you start with the storyboard. It is definitely not easy to shoot those scenes without relying on computer effects." George said seriously, "Of course, I know you want to write the script first, but... this is just my suggestion." George opened his eyes wide and teased him like an old naughty boy.

Lance pursed his lips and pointed his chin slightly, "I did this too when I was in the City of Sin." There was a storyboard first, and then the script. Although it was to convince Frank Miller, he had to first describe the story version and intuitively explain his creative ideas to Frank, but it is undeniable that this is indeed a very effective method.

"This is interesting news." George touched his chin, "And, have you ever thought about who will play Max?"

"Ha, five minutes ago, I'm not sure this work will be handed over to Chaos Pictures for production." Lance must admit that this is also a difficult problem. In his previous life, "Mad Max 4" was filmed in 2012, and now it's seven years ahead of schedule. Many of the characters are bound to undergo earth-shaking changes, which also means that casting must start from scratch.

George turned his head and looked at Lance up and down. The meaningful vision made Lance inexplicable. "Actually, after watching 'Borrowing a Knife to Kill People', I kept thinking that if you were to play Max, it would be a very interesting thing."

Lance laughed in silence, "I thought Max should be stronger."

"Oh, no, it's definitely not like that. When Mel played Max, he was even thinner than you." George shook his head repeatedly. "If I follow my character setting, Brad Pitt or Eric Barner might be more suitable. You know, their muscles are dazzling." Looking at George's playful expression, Lance couldn't help but smile. "But if you want to show Max's role, then he needs an actor with deeper acting skills. After all, there is not much room for Max to play in the movie."

After saying that, George looked at Lance seriously, with an appreciation in his eyes. Lance did not comment. George seemed to understand what Lance meant and chuckled, "I know, this is not a challenging character in the traditional sense, but believe me, you will play Max, and this character will become an Indiana-Jones-like character."

"I thought we had reached a consensus that Max was not a hero." Lance changed the subject.

George shrugged, "But they are all charming characters, fascinating."

"Thank you for the compliment." Lanss accepted George's praise with ease.

George lightly tapped his jaw, as if saying "No thanks", "Then, you should accept my proposal. To be honest, I look forward to a taciturn but powerful Max, who still shines brightly even in front of Ferosa."

Undeniably, Lance also began to think about how he would perform if he played Max.

So far, Lance has only appeared in two works. Max in "Murder by Borrowing a Knife" seems very ordinary. Although he fights Vincent to the end with his persistent belief, he is just an ordinary taxi driver after all; Jeff in "Fruit Hard Candy" is a cunning beast in clothes, hidden under Sven's appearance is a greedy and ugly soul.

But "Mad Max 4" is completely different, with yellow sand all over the sky, iron-blooded and neat, courageous and wise, hidden under the cold appearance, but has a gentle and lonely heart. Such a character is undoubtedly a huge challenge for the actors. How to present the tenderness of the iron man, especially in the quiet situation, the delicate eyes and movements will be crucial; considering the type and style of the movie, it is absolutely not easy to distinguish Max from famous tough guy characters such as Jason Born, Ethan Hunter, James Bond, and T800.

"I thought I had won this cooperation with my own strength." Lance turned to look at George and said jokingly.
