683 The Beginning of Miracles

Franklin Leonard felt that his breathing was a little rapid, and an indescribable sense of tension arose. This was a bit ridiculous. It was not the first time he had met Lance. In fact, it was the first time he had met with Lance. But... he still couldn't control the surging tension. This seemed to be the first time the two met in non-working places, reminding him of his first meeting at the Oscar luncheon. Who could imagine that the unexpected attendance became a turning point in his career?

Taking a deep breath, Franklin walked into the restaurant. What caught his sight was a reddish-brown wall, which was like a rock climbing pedal stone, and was arranged in marble trays. Each tray was placed with an exquisite chopstick box with various names written on it. After a rough look, Franklin saw Tom Cruise, James Cameron, Martin Scorses and other names.

"Welcome, do you have an appointment?" The waiter interrupted Franklin's polite questioning.

"…Straello." Franklin hesitated for a moment before he came to his senses.

The waiter immediately showed a polite smile, "Mr. Strello is waiting for your arrival." This made Franklin a little nervous. He was late, and he was late. But before he could react, the waiter was already ahead and started leading the way. Franklin could only walk forward quickly.

The dark black painted square table is arranged intertwined between the antique screens. Each picture of the hollow carved wooden screen is so exquisite that it makes people want to look carefully. These screens block the guests and keep everyone's safety as much as possible. However, because the hollow design is not too closed, it maintains enough ventilation. The charming Chinese/Chinese cuisine aroma in the air is filled with the cumbersome noise, and the steps are involuntarily cheerful.

Bypassing another screen, Franklin saw Reims sitting next to the table, a simple vertical striped navy shirt with simple sleeves rolled up, and a plate of peanuts and a cup of tea on the table, as if everything around had calmed down.

It is hard to imagine that facing Chaos Film's current bad situation, Lance is still as stable as Mount Tai.

"Sorry, I'm late." Franklin hurriedly walked forward, but his steps were a little bigger. He accidentally touched the screen next to him. He quickly held it with both hands and looked at it. In front of him was a carved flower of a lady playing butterfly. Even the fluttering of the skirt and the wings of the butterfly were clearly visible. This made Franklin stunned. Turning back, he saw the faint smile on the corner of Lance's mouth. Franklin cleared his throat with embarrassment, "This kind of place is not common in Los Angeles."

"You can stay in New York for a longer time if you want," Lance said with a smile.

It seems that in people's eyes, Los Angeles and New York are both world's top metropolises, and the difference should not be that exaggerated, but only those who have truly lived in the two cities know that in fact, these two cities have two completely different styles in their blood.

Franklin nodded. He came to New York this time to hold a meeting. Now the blacklist has spread in major film companies. He needs to unite more industry insiders to truly create this list, so he has been running around all the time. This is also related to the setting of the American Screenwriters Union. The union will also be divided into the Eastern Screenwriters Union and the Western Screenwriters Union. Many work is carried out separately, and in the two union branches, many groups in small areas will be distinguished, and he is intricately integrated. Therefore, his work cannot be completed in Los Angeles and must be on a business trip.

This is his first visit to New York since the blacklist was released. Before he could have a meeting, he was summoned by Reims, which led to the meeting today.

"So, are you asking me for something?" Franklin said impatiently after sitting down.

Lance chuckled, "There is no need to be so anxious. We can have lunch first. At least, you should have a cup of tea first." This is the authentic Chinese Tieguanyin. It was quite surprising that Lance could taste such a pure taste of his hometown in a foreign country.

Franklin picked up the teacup, Lance poured a cup of tea for him, and then saw Franklin pouring the tea into his mouth like a chewing peonies, and then his whole face wrinkled. The bitter taste could be clearly seen on his face, which made Lance laugh.

Hearing the waiter over, Lance ordered the dishes slowly, and then greeted Franklin for a while, but Franklin couldn't help but ask again, "So, is there something wrong today? Is it because of the blacklist?"

Franklin was still nervous after all, and this tension could hardly be concealed. Lance nodded with a smile, and did not "torture" him anymore. He said, "Indeed, there is a work in the blacklist. I want to ask in detail about it." Lance is more clear than anyone about the meaning of the blacklist. Even though "Hangover" can already be used as a guaranteed project to achieve Lance's goal, Lance still reads the blacklist in detail again.

There are 86 works on the blacklist. Lance first discovered it, but only scanned it roughly. After reading it in detail, he made new discoveries. "There is a project in it that is 'Mad Max', but there is not much content about this project. It is just described as: this is the new version of Max. After the end of the nuclear war, Max, the fearless man who lost all his relatives, tried to survive. Apart from that, there is nothing extra."

Lance only said the first half, and Franklin understood. After all, this blacklist poured all his efforts. He could not tell the works well, but he was definitely deeply remembered. "Yes, there is indeed such a project. If I remember correctly, more than fifteen people have recommended this script."

Lance nodded, "Seventeen." To be precise, this is not a script, just a concept, an idea, and an idea, but it is really incredible that it can be put on the blacklist.

"Are you curious about why a script without any framework or content can get so many recommendations?" Speaking of his profession, Franklin obviously relaxed a lot, as if it has been like this from the original Oscar nomination luncheon to the present. "In fact, there is a reason for this."

Franklin explained, but in fact, Lance didn't need to explain at all, because he knew the value of the project better than anyone else.

"Mad Max" is a series of works. The first filmed in 1979. It is a science fiction action film set against the desolate world of the future. It can be said to be the earliest pioneer of the doomsday genre. It made the male lead Mel Gibson famous that year and became the starting point for Mel to attract Hollywood attention.

However, "Mad Max" has always been considered a representative work of cult movies due to its subject matter and style. The first work was the debut work of director George Miller, who was filmed as an emergency room doctor, and the cost was only 350,000 US dollars. The movie achieved a good box office in Australia, but it did not cause discussion in the United States, and its reputation was not as good as the "elephant man", "ghost playman", "small restaurant" and so on of the same era, let alone the epoch-making "Star Wars".

The last film of the series was filmed in 1985. Later, the results of the two works were getting worse and worse, so they ended in a hurry. As a director, George successively devoted works that were popular with Oscars, such as "Rebirth Journey", "Baby Pig", and "Happy Big Foot". His personal style has undergone earth-shaking changes, and the "Crazy Max" series is filled with historical dust and no one cares about it.

It can be said that the "Mad Max" series was pioneering in the setting of the apocalypse and had a profound impact on many genres later. With the precipitation and fermentation of time, the series of works have been widely circulated among many professional film fans in the United States, such as Quentin Tarantino, who likes the series very much.

So, when George was preparing to restart the "Crazy Max" series, loyal fans like Franklin began to be excited, so they still received many recommendations without scripts, frameworks, and content. Judging from the number of recommended people on the blacklist, it is obvious that there are quite a lot of enthusiastic fans.

However, Lance did not interrupt Franklin's explanation. He needed to re-confirm whether the information he received in his previous life had changed. After the situation was confirmed one by one, Lance nodded slightly, "What about the current situation of this project?"

Franklin was stunned for a moment, and the words of inquiry had already flowed to his mouth, but he still swallowed it, "It was put on hold. In 2003, Warner Bros. actually intended to shoot it, but later they felt that the risk was too great and the style was too unique, so they gave up."

As the former film and television manager, Franklin knew all about these situations and revealed many things that Reims didn't know. "Later, George took the project and looked for several other companies, but he didn't gain much, and everyone was optimistic about this movie. You know, everyone hoped that this movie could make money, and so did George, but North America doesn't seem to like this style of apocalyptic cult movie, and now the doomsday theme movies are not very good at it."

Franklin shrugged and smiled self-deprecatingly. This is also the reason why the blacklist came out, the potential projects that were ignored by large film companies. "Later, because of the Iraq War, the United States strengthened travel and transportation restrictions between countries, and the shooting was even more difficult, so George was forced to give up. At the end of last year, George actually planned to shoot into a 3D cartoon, but this idea was around the six major film companies, and no one was willing to take risks. I also saw this project at that time, but I really didn't have much to do. You will know what the next thing is, and the blacklist was created."

After saying that, Franklin paused, but he couldn't help but curiosity, "Lance, are you planning to shoot this work?"
