555 The Head Start
Rejecting Warner Bros. and rejecting "Superman Return" is not an easy decision.
For production companies like Chaos Pictures, cooperation with Warner Bros. is not just a work, but opening a door to usher in more opportunities through this work. It may be an opportunity to continue to cooperate with Warner Bros. or an opportunity to cooperate with other large film companies. Although Chaos Pictures has worked with 20th Century Fox and Paramount one after another, the more opportunities are better.
Even without the cosmic plan, "Return of Superman" is a large-scale project.
But Lance knew clearly that for Warner Bros., they would not care about the interests of Chaos Pictures now, and would not create a successful "Superman Return" in the future, opening up the cooperation between Chaos Pictures and Warner Bros., and even promoting the construction of the universe. This is the most perfect situation. But it is very likely that Lance fell off the ground in the first step, and the more likely situation is that Warner Bros. has found a more suitable partner and turned around and abandoned Chaos Pictures. For them, Lance is a director, but is just a director.
When he chose to set up Chaos Pictures instead of relying on a large film production company, it was because Lance wanted to maintain his own sex. Therefore, now he naturally could not change his original intention for a cooperative project.
Rejecting Barry Meyer was not easy, but Lance did not hesitate. Even though he had been pursuing comics for the past two months, even as he continued to conceive, overturn, and reimagine the character of Clark Kent, even if he had missed the Pirates of the Caribbean project before. But he still did not hesitate.
Likewise, he had no regrets.
When he received these two projects at the same time, even he couldn't help but feel a surge in his heart, as if the key to changing history was already in his hand. But now, he clearly understood that the wheel of history was too huge and too heavy, and it was obviously not an easy task to rely on his own efforts to push it. Instead of blindly trying to make changes, it is better to keep your feet on the ground and move forward step by step. Quantity changes accumulate enough, and qualitative changes will naturally occur.
"I'm sorry, I can only wait for the next time." Barry smiled politely and ended the brief conversation with the standards of social occasions.
Barry was surprised that Lance was straightforward, but even more surprised that Lance was calm and seemed to be not difficult to refuse himself. There was already a gap in his heart. This made Barry very uncomfortable. He didn't like Lance's peace, because what was hidden behind this calmness was self-confidence, self-pride and arrogant. Barry never liked such things in the bones of artists.
If Lance reaches the height of Woody Allen or Warren Beatty, then even if he doesn't like it, he can only accept it. But Lance? But the little guy who created four works obviously doesn't understand what kind of playground Hollywood is. Thinking of Lance's expression when he saw the dirty and ugly expression under Hollywood's glamorous outerwear, Barry's mood suddenly became clear.
Barry decided to enjoy his lunch, "The topics about you have been flying all over the past few days, and you will probably start to get busy in the next period of time." Barry started chatting easily and freely, and the topic content was "City of Sin".
Originally, this was just a normal conversation in social occasions, and Barry's words were very normal, but Lance vaguely smelled a hint of calmness of the superior. "There is no such plan for the time being." Lance also put on his own social mask and said calmly, "Promotion is the job of the actors. I can win a short break and relax."
The two of them seemed to have no barriers, and they exchanged topics without any nutrition, but the atmosphere was quickly broken again, "Hey, Lance, you are here." A brisk voice came over, "Barry, are you here too?" The voice was slightly puzzled and said worriedly, "Did I interrupt any important meeting? I can come back later."
The person who came was George Clooney. What a coincidence.
"No, no." Barry put down his knife and fork, slowly wiped the corner of his mouth with a napkin, "Why are you here? Are you here to eat?"
"No, I'm here to find Lance." George's outspokenness surprised Lance, and he cast a puzzled look. "Percy told me you're having a meal here, but he didn't say you had an appointment with Barry." So, is this indeed a coincidence?
"Urgent? You can call me directly." Lance also put down his knife and fork, raised his head to look at George. George stood next to his seat, not sitting down, as if he was still worried about the meeting between Lance and Barry.
"I tried, but I always leave voice messages." George looked helpless, and a hint of anxiety appeared between his eyebrows.
George is a smart man. If he wants to hide his true emotions in his heart, he can do it. Unless he doesn't want it, or he wants others to receive such emotional signals.
"Oh, I left my phone in the office." Lance slapped his forehead and only now remembered.
Barry received the signal from George and turned to look at Lance, "You are the same as me? I had a meeting at 2:30 pm, so I didn't bring my phone out." A step, a step without any flaws. Lance shook his head politely, responded to a few words, and Barry took the opportunity to stand up, "I decided to enjoy the leisure of a cup of coffee, and then go back to work."
Barry patted George on the shoulder, and then the three of them made another polite manner, so Barry turned around and left. If all this was a coincidence, then it was indeed too coincidental.
Lance watched Barry leave, and turned around and saw George's apologetic expression, "I hope I didn't disturb you and Barry's conversation."
Lance waved his hands repeatedly, as if he was a real friend, considerate and tolerant. He gestured to let George sit down, "Have you had a meal?" George shook his head, the impatience and boredom between his eyebrows were still turbulent, but Lance seemed to have not seen it, called the waiter and asked George to order food again, but George refused, so Lance took the initiative to help George make a decision and ordered a glass of white wine.
Lance could clearly feel that George could not hold it in his arms, and almost got suffocated. That impatient mood almost turned into real irritability. I guess George would not be able to help but vomit it out in a while, so Lance asked with caring face, "What's wrong? You look like something is wrong today."
The veins in George's temples jumped twice involuntarily. Didn't Lance ask clearly? But he can't explode now, and the scene must be performed.
So George opened his mouth and wanted to say something, but then shook his head and gave up, "I'm fine."
Lance thought this was very interesting. He didn't know what George was selling in his gourd, but he knew one thing that if George really had an urgent matter, he would definitely not be the one he would look for. So, George found himself and made such a gesture, obviously just to show himself. Then he asked George to perform well. It was not a good thing to waste such outstanding talent.
"It's fine." Lance did not follow the common sense and continued to ask George, but instead let out a long breath, "I saw that you were so anxious and thought something really happened. I guess you haven't had lunch, your blood sugar is too low and your mood is not good, right?"
George almost vomited blood with chest tightness, but looked up and saw Lance's look of fear. It was not like making a fake, even if it was a fake, he could not expose it now, so he could only swallow this breath and nodded, "It should be so. But I don't have any appetite and don't want to eat at all."
"Chocolate?" Lance answered quickly, and George's words strangled to death in his throat again. "At least you should have some chocolate." George almost thought Lance did it on purpose, but Lance's sincere eyes were still so clear and bright, and the deep worries in his eyes were not mixed with any moisture. "Or dessert? Their tiramisu is very good, a little sweeter than the Sunset Avenue house, and it's just what you need now."
George nodded randomly, and he had no intention of refusing now, because the focus was not on food at all. "Lance, I have something to say to you." George decided to attack directly.
But unexpectedly, Lance actually blocked him again, "If you have anything to say, your body is the most important thing. Your face is really not very good now." Lance directly recruited the waiter, "Please give us two tiramisus, thank you."
George just wanted the waiter to leave quickly, but Lance began to ask other dessert recommendations seriously, which made George's chest burn with a blazing fire. If it were normal, George would get angry, but today it was really too special, so he could only swallow this breath, almost internally injured.
After finally waiting for Lance to finish his busy schedule, George did not give Lance a third chance. "Lance, good night, good luck is on the shooting." Without breathing space, George threw the bombshell out directly. Lance was stunned and showed a bright smile, "This is a good thing!" It seemed that he was happier than George, "This is something worth celebrating."
George stared at Lance's eyes tightly and motionless, "The copyright of the script is registered in my name, and you don't have your name." George's face was obscure, struggling with pain, annoyed and upset, and looked like a friend who regretted his original love because he betrayed his friend.
So, this is George's calculation today: he takes the lead and uses Lance's guilt to occupy the moral high ground and eliminate future troubles. So, what role did Warner Bros. play in this? Is Diorama aware of it? To be continued.
