449 Position reversal

"Jason?" Tucker knocked on the door, then pushed open the office door, but did not see Jason. He turned around and looked at the assistant's desk at the door. She pointed to Ryan's office. Tucker couldn't help but sigh, stood there, shook his head, then walked towards the target direction, knocked on the door, and shouted, "Ryan?" but he did not push the door, just stood at the door.

In the past, he always went in and out of Ryan's office freely, but recently... Ryan's temper became increasingly urgent, and he repeatedly asked him to knock on the door and enter, "This is the basic etiquette of the office, a kind of respect." This is Ryan's original words. Tucker didn't take it seriously at the beginning, but after Ryan actually got angry once last time, he realized that Ryan was not joking.

"Come in." Ryan's voice sounded, and Tucker pushed the door and walked in. Sure enough, he saw Jason sitting on the chair directly opposite Ryan. The two of them were talking, but they stopped for a while and turned to look at him. Tucker's heart skipped a little, and for some reason, he remembered what Lance said when he left the company. Should he be alert to Ryan? Because he believed that once he lost his power, it was only a matter of time before Ryan treated him as an abandoned child.

Ryan has always been close to him, but why did he discuss it with Jason today?

"Tuck, is there anything wrong?" Ryan said, which made Tucker feel very uncomfortable. Shouldn't he ask Jason about this sentence?

"No." Tucker waved the newspaper in his hand, "The Golden Globe nomination list is out." Before he finished speaking, Jason exchanged a glance with Ryan. Tucker paused and said hesitantly, "We have received three nominations for our work, and I think you should want to know."

Ryan took his eyes off Jason, "Jason and I were talking about this just now." When will Ryan listen to Jason's opinion? Tucker twisted his shoulder stiffly, and then sat down next to Jason, "We missed the two nominations for Best Director and Best Screenwriter. Jason believes that we should focus on the college's PR, mainly to impact the best director and best original script, and then to the best actor."

"Will you be too ambitious?" Tucker adjusted several times before finding a suitable position.

"Don't underestimate the 'killing with a knife'." Jason replied, but Tucker did not turn his head. Jason didn't mind. He continued, "This time is different from last year. Now everyone's praise for 'killing with a knife' can be heard everywhere in the circle. Because he was treated coldly at the Golden Globes, the next time when the Oscar votes, the sympathy votes will be seriously tilted in these praises. Maybe their nominations will not be counted at that time."

Tucker looked at Ryan's expression carefully and said anxiously, "Then are we going to deal with 'killing with a knife' now? Will we spread their negative news?"

Ryan shook his head but didn't say anything. Jason was still speaking. "We don't have the energy..." But Tucker interrupted him, "Ryan, we not only want to win, but we can't give Lance more room for development."

Ryan finally spoke, "Now our propaganda power is concentrated on the 'Saharan Cavalry'. The second wave of propaganda has begun. We cannot put all the public relations power on the 'Rwanda Hotel'." Ryan looked at Jason, which made Tucker turn his head and look over. "No surprise this year, it is probably the year of the 'Flyers'. The 'Rwanda Hotel' cannot compete, which also means that 'killing people with a knife' can't compete. Therefore, we don't need to deal with Lance, and the Weinstein brothers will not let it go easily."

"Flyer" was produced and distributed by Miramax Pictures and Warner Bros. It can be said to be a strong team.

Tucker opened his mouth and wanted to speak, but Ryan stopped him, "We should focus on ourselves in the awards season PR, hoping to achieve more results. Just like the 'Saharan Cavalry', we don't have time to discredit our opponents now, and we can only hope to do our job well first and then think about other things - I mean, if we have the extra effort."

In just one year, things were already earth-shaking. Last year they were thinking about how to suppress Lance, but this year they were already unable to protect themselves. Things changed too quickly, which caught people off guard.

Tucker said unwillingly, "Does we just let Lance grow stronger?"

Ryan and Jason were both silent. Chaos Pictures' upward momentum could no longer be suppressed. This is a certain fact. They felt extremely uncomfortable, but they had to accept it. Ryan took a deep breath, "Of course not. We don't have the strength to deal with Lance, but it does not mean that Miramax and Warner Brothers do not. We have no room for conservatism now, and we can only show all the cards."

Tucker frowned slightly, "It's not that bad, right?"

Ryan sighed lightly, without saying a word, Jason whispered, “The Sahara Cavalry is our last chance to achieve self-salvation; and the Rwanda Hotel will be our struggle. If it succeeds, the next chance of 'good night, good luck' will be much easier.”

"Good night, good luck", Tucker almost forgot this work. George has completed all the preparations and will officially start in February 2005. They are indeed not at the end of their lives, but they need more breathing time so that future plans can be unfolded.

Thinking of this, Tucker withdrew his gaze and slowly leaned on the back of the chair, falling into deep thought.

Once upon a time, they were looking forward to the last push and watched Lance fall from the cliff, but now they have stood on the edge of the cliff, and Lance has escaped from the danger zone. This is Hollywood, hidden behind the fairy tale of overnight fame and wealth, and it is also an abyss of bankruptcy and disappearing overnight.

Unlike the high-profile internal watch of Diorama, Austin seemed a little out of focus, and even the reception of the news became slow. It took two days after the Golden Globe nomination list was announced that Lance remembered this - Cole mentioned on the phone, "So, how are we acting?" Lance asked curiously.

Cole was choked by this rebellious question. The nomination list could be seen in almost all newspapers. He took it for granted that Lance must have known it. Cole called today, mainly asking whether the next shooting plan of "Sin City" would conflict with the Golden Globe Awards ceremony, and how to make adjustments. Unexpectedly, Lance said this at the beginning...

"Two nominations." Cole explained helplessly, "Best Actor in the Drama category and Best Supporting Actor."

Lance raised his eyebrows, "Nothing else?" Lance was quite surprised. Not only did the movie not win the nomination for director or screenwriter, but he was also surprised that he actually won the nomination for Best Supporting Actor. So, his first reaction was that Cole reported the wrong report, which made this question come true.

"No." Cole said with regret, "I originally thought there would be more, especially the best movie in the drama category, with six seats, but we were still not there." What Cole didn't say was that he thought Lance won the best director nomination, but the result...

Lance curled his lips and said that he was not disappointed, it must be fake. The work "Killing with a Knife" has been spent a lot of energy since the conception and script of the preparation stage, and the finished product shot has also been recognized by public opinion, so he must have more expectations. This reminded Lance of "City of God" - it only had one nomination at the Golden Globe Awards. The difference is that Lance himself did not have too many expectations during the "City of God", but "Killing with a Knife" still vaguely hopes to achieve a breakthrough.

"It seems that the Hollywood Foreign Press Association has a bad impression of me." Lance teased half-jokingly.

"Then you should stay in Los Angeles and participate in a PR event with Tom." Cole actually complained about this. He mentioned Lance twice, but Lance was still unmoved.

Lance chuckled. If time permits, he actually hopes to participate in more public relations activities. Even if it is not for the awards season, it is crucial for future connections. Last year, when he was "City of God", he did not have this qualification and could not enter the threshold, but this year it was quite special. "City of Sin" was ready, and Frank Miller was always ready. After Lance made a choice, he still thought that it was more important to shoot this work well. After all, there were too many uncertainties in the awards ceremony.

"What's the situation with Tom now?" Lance did not continue to get entangled with Cole, and changed the topic. Now Lance's work on "Borrowing a Knife to Kill" has been completed, and what he can do for Tom is really limited, it depends on the efforts of Paramount and Tom's public relations team.

Cole shrugged, "The overall momentum is good, but it is very nervous to compete with Leonardo."

"Don't underestimate Jamie Fox." Lance reminded that in his previous life, Leonardo lost to Jamie, the "King of Souls". This time it was indeed considered to be the closest Leonardo was to the Little Golden Man, but it was not unfair to lose to Jamie.

"We are in a good situation now, but Paramount hopes to take a step closer next time, focusing more PR forces in Best Picture, Best Director, and Best Original Script departments, hoping to make a difference at the Oscars. Compared with other works, our current position is actually very good." Cole explained, "How about it, do you have any ideas about the Best Supporting Actor? There are quite a lot of calls in the circle about you going to win the Best Supporting Actor."

"Haha, are you kidding me?" Lance was not self-deprecating, but self-knowledge. The actors in film history who won the acting skills of Little Golden Man with their debut work did exist, but he did not think that his performance in "Borrowing a Knife to Kill" had reached such a height.

"Why not?" Cole asked back, "The competition in the supporting actor department is not fierce this year, and you still have some advantages. If you try it, there is still hope."
