424 Overseas Victory

"Borrowing a knife to kill people" can be said to have swept the eight deserts in North America, achieving a double harvest of box office and reputation as a dark horse; but in the overseas market, "Borrowing a knife to kill people" has no advantage.

"Borrowing a knife to kill" does not have the "acquired" visual effects to protect it. As a thriller crime movie that reflects the current situation of contemporary American society, it is difficult to find resonance in the overseas market. As for box office appeal, although Lance achieved an amazing triple jump in the United States, it is not a very recognized name in the overseas market. Even if some foundation was laid for Lance during the "acquired" promotion, it is far from being a climate.

In other words, in the overseas market, Tom is the only gimmick of "killing with a knife".

In contrast, the appeal of the "Twelve Arhats" is extraordinary. From George to Brad, from Julia to Catherine, from Matt to Bruce, and even director Steven Soderbergh enjoys the highest standards in Europe and Asia. Even Africa and Latin America cannot resist the charm of the star cast lineup.

Someone once discussed that the impact of media comprehensive reviews on the North American box office and overseas box office of movies refers specifically to the works that have very bad media comprehensive reviews and have very bad box office performances in North America, but many of them have good overseas box office performances, such as "Troy", "Alexander the Great", "The Legend of Narnia", "Ramonsnich's unfortunate adventures", etc., which also makes overseas box office a base for major film companies to achieve redemption.

For the "Twelve Arhats", there is no third point, but there is theoretical support from the first and second points, especially the second point. American audiences will enter the cinema because of a strong cast lineup, but if the work is not satisfactory, they do not need to continue to support it. There are many choices. For example, if they give up George Clooney's "Twelve Arhats" and choose Tom Cruise's "Borrowing a Knife"; if they give up Adam Sandler's "Spanish Maid", they can choose Ben Stiller to "Meet the Father-in-law 2". But in overseas markets, this is not the case.

The starting line of the "Twelve Arhats" is not on the same level as "Borrowing a Knife to Kill". Even so, the box office performance of the two works still reflects the profound impact of the quality of the movie.

The "Twelve Arhats" landed in 57 countries and regions around the world, more than doubled compared to the 23 countries and regions in the previous work. In the end, the markets of Japan, Britain, Germany and France gave warm responses. The cumulative box office of the four regions exceeded 20 million US dollars, of which Japan became the largest overseas ticket store for the "Twelve Arhats" with a good result of 30 million.

Three years ago, the "Eleven Arhats" achieved overseas box office of 267 million in 23 countries and regions, and the global cumulative box office was as high as 450 million. The investment of only 85 million yuan made a fortune for Warner Bros. and Diorama Pictures; three years later, the "Twelve Arhats" spent 110 million yuan, and in 58 countries and regions, the United States only achieved global box office of 290 million yuan. Not only did the performance regress a lot, but it was also almost at the risk of losses. The performance was indeed so bad that it made any excuses pale.

On the other hand, the overseas box office performance of "killing with a knife" is naturally far less amazing than that of North America. However, for a work with an investment of 60 million yuan, Paramount did not target the overseas market since the beginning. The excellent performance of North America's box office was enough to make Paramount overjoyed. Now more energy is to focus on the sprint of the awards season. As for overseas box office, this is an additional reward. If it can bring surprises, it would be better.

Obviously, "killing someone by borrowing a knife" did not disappoint Brad Gray.

Relying on Tom's unparalleled appeal around the world, "Borrowing a Knife to Kill People" was released in 54 countries and regions. This number is almost comparable to the "Twelve Arhats". It can be seen that in terms of overseas influence alone, Tom is still above George and Brad.

Unfortunately, these 54 countries and regions did not include mainland China. Paramount saw the excellent performance of "the day after tomorrow" in this market and tried to try it again, but unfortunately, it was not possible to pass the review, which made this work missed the mainland Chinese market.

Among these 54 countries and regions, Japan became the largest overseas ticket store to "kill people with a knife" coincided with the "Twelve Arhats", but the box office performance of 21 million US dollars is obviously not comparable to the "Twelve Arhats". Maybe the audience entered the cinema because of Tom, maybe the audience thought it was a "Mission Impossible" style work, maybe the audience was driven by the "Twelve Arhats" to buy movie tickets, but no matter what the reason, "killing with a knife" unexpectedly fought a beautiful battle in the overseas market with solid quality and excellent reputation, which made Paramount happy.

In the end, "Borrowing a Knife to Kill" won 130 million in the overseas market, which was far inferior to the "Twelve Arhats". The huge difference in the lineup of the star cast and entertainment effects led to this result, but no one would say that "Borrowing a Knife to Kill" lost. On the contrary, compared with the results of the "Twelve Arhats", it was possible to win such data. "Borrowing a Knife to Kill" once again ushered in a rare victory. This thrilling crime work created a miracle that was not big or small without anyone's favor.

After the North American box office, the global box office of "killing with a knife" reached 370 million in one fell swoop.
