183 Many opportunities

"Borrowing a Knife to Kill" is really a good work. The atmosphere of the movie and the sparks between the actors are impressive. In the last life, the two starring actors Tom Cruise and Jamie Foxx (Ja Fan E-Foxx) both contributed great performances. The former was praised as the best performance in his career, and the latter won the nomination for the Oscar for Best Supporting Actor.

It can be felt that the screenwriter tried to talk about the cruel social reality through such a story. The rampant and domineering forces in buying murderers is stifling the vitality of justice bit by bit. Professional killers even compared the topic of murder with the Rwandan Massacre. The contempt and randomness of life make people shudder; at the same time, under the background of the entire era, the indifference of society not only makes people constantly distance away from others, but also makes life fragility full of tragedy.

Among Michael Mann's three most successful works, the thinking of "killing people with a knife" is deeper than "stealing the fire line", and the rhythm of "killing people with a knife" is more powerful than "shocking inside story", but in total, "killing people with a knife" is not as good as "stealing the fire line" and "shocking inside story".

The reason is simple and complex.

The story of "killing with a knife" is very small, but the core idea is very huge. It can be said that it is a rare and profound theme, but the screenwriter's control is not satisfactory. On the one hand, the script dialogue seems vague and bloated, and it is not able to combine the tension of the dialogue within the small pattern and the depth of the dialogue content with the main line; on the other hand, the arrangement of the ending is a bit hasty and simple, allowing the promotion and exploration of emotions to come to an abrupt end.

Stuart-beattie is a good commercial screenwriter. His name can be seen on the list of screenwriters for the "Pirates of the Caribbean" series. In addition, "Australia's Troubled Times" is also his work. From these works, we can see that he has the heart to grasp the many clues under the overall situation but lacks the ability to deeply explore the connotation of the script, especially ignoring the importance of dialogue and lines.

In comparison, Eric Roth, the screenwriter who "Shocked the Insider", once wrote "Forrest Gump" and "Munich Tragedy", and the "Benjamin Button's Strange Incident" was also done by him. His exploration of the clues of the complicated story and the connotation of the small characters in the background is really commendable.

This also determines that the highest achievement of "killing with a knife" is not as good as the "shocking insider" - the latter won seven nominations at the Oscars, including Best Picture, Best Director, Best Actor, Best Adapted Screenplay.

On the other hand, the two protagonists, "Borrowing a Knife to Kill" are very hard-working, but in Lance's view, Tom Cruise still seems to have not grasped the essence of the role. The quality of the performance is sometimes high and sometimes low. Many explosive scenes can still see his performance style in other movies as usual - showing personal charm, which is the most undesirable for the movie. This is also Tom's "last time" to hit the Oscar. After failing, Tom completely gave up and completely returned to the arms of commercial movies.

Jamie Fox's performance is so detailed that it is impressive in its delicacy. However, his exploration of the role is really limited, especially his understanding of the role is only at the end. So much so that his character cannot further deepen the theme core of the story, and the pattern is still too limited. The reason why Jamie won the Oscar nomination is more because his competitors were too weak that year; of course, his interpretation of the small characters is also worthy of recognition.

Of course, the limited portrayal of the script for the role is also one of the reasons that restricts the performance of the two actors. However, the "stealing fire line" that is also more commercial than practical is impressive under the interpretation of two veteran actors, Robert-de-niro and Al-pacino.

The performance intensity and depth are immediately obvious, which also makes "killing with a knife" slightly inferior to "stealing the fire line" in terms of plot excitement.

Overall, there is a lot of room for digging out for "borrowing a knife to kill people". Whether it is a script or a performance, you only need to polish it a little. This work has the potential to exceed "shock insider", and is even comparable to classic works such as "Seven Deadly Sins" or "Los Angeles City Secret".

However, in Lance's view, whether it is a screenwriter or an actor, these issues can be modified slowly, and the key point is Paramount's idea. Judging from Brad's attitude just now, they actually wanted to make "killing someone with a knife" into a simple and clear thriller movie like "sniper phone booth", and are looking forward to a complete victory in the field. I have to say that this is a directional mistake.

"Borrowing a knife to kill" can make a difference in the box office. If Lance remembers correctly, the movie in his previous life achieved a box office of 100 million US dollars, and the global box office was as high as 220 million US dollars. This can be regarded as a victory for a work that invested 65 million US dollars. Importantly, the movie later won two Oscar nominations, which is even more rare for commercial films.

But the potential of "killing with a knife" is obviously more than that. Although the box office of "Los Angeles City Secret" in North America was only 64 million US dollars, it almost knocked down the "Titanic" above the Oscars. More than a decade later, film critics believed that the importance of "Titanic" to the film industry is understandable, and the best film of the Oscar is well deserved; but from an artistic point of view, "Los Angeles City Secret" is the work that is truly worthy of the best film. This has made the popularity of "Los Angeles City Secret" in the video tape rental market always high, and time has proved that this is a classic.

A work that can become a classic, but stops at excellence. This is the biggest regret.

Paramount hopes that Lance will take over "killing with a knife", but it can actually be seen that their positioning for the movie is still a commercial movie, which is probably the core reason for their conflict with Spike Lee, Steven Spielberg, and Martin Scorsese. Paramount is too conservative to explore the potential of the script, which makes Stewart's script lose more value, leading to the director's letting go. Whether it is Michael Mann, who was finally negotiated in Paramount in the last life, or this time Brad comes to find Lance first, they can see that they attach importance to the commercial elements of the movie.

Of course, all this is just Lance's personal speculation, and he has no evidence to prove his guess. But is it really appropriate to use this work as Chaos Pictures' next work?

If it is a simple commercial film like "the day after tomorrow", Lance will nod and agree without saying a word. The huge commercial potential will become a weapon for Chaos Pictures to further open up the market; but the commercial potential and artistic potential of "killing with a knife" are worth further exploration. After Lance takes over, he will never be willing to stop there - thinking about the restraint during the filming of "the day after tomorrow" and thinking about the result of the conflict between several directors and Paramount, Lance felt a faint pain in his temples.

Fortunately, Lance didn't have to make a decision immediately. After Brad promised to send an email to Lance the script of "killing with a knife" immediately, he turned around and said goodbye - the director candidate for "killing with a knife" must be more than the only one.

Moreover, "killing with a knife" is not the only project that Lance encountered tonight. In fact, after winning three little gold men, Lance naturally became the focus of the night. He almost didn't need to spend too much effort and quickly entered various social circles. Each opportunity was like gold everywhere, placed in front of him openly.

First, I met Russell Crow, Hugh Jackman and Nicole Kidman-led Australian gang, and then Katherine Zeta Jones and Michael Douglas had a great time talking. After congratulating Charlize Theron, I turned around and met Michael Leiden, the current chairman of Sony Columbia Pictures,...

When George Clooney called Lance away with a smile, Michael Leighton smiled politely at Lance, and then turned around and left, "Wow, it seems that you are having a very good conversation." George teased with a smile, "I heard that Sony now has a project worth about 130 million and is looking for a director."

"He didn't have any special statement just now." Lance shrugged. In fact, Michael mentioned a work called "Top Secret Flight", but the two did not discuss in detail, and Michael did not take the initiative to say that he would show Lance the script. It is estimated that Michael just came here to inquire about Lance's situation today.

George didn't believe it, and shook his head with a smile, "Someone's career is about to take off." Then, George introduced Lance to Brad Pitt and Jennifer Aniston, "I've wanted to introduce you to you for a long time, and I finally have a chance today."

Lance didn't catch a cold about Brad, but he admired Jennifer very much, not only because of that "Friends", but also because of her autonomy after facing her husband's cheating, she made a fortune in Hollywood with her own abilities. "Miss Aniston, I hope that I will not seem too rude to mention Rachel Green's actions."

Jennifer was amused by Lance's pun, looked back at her husband, and then smiled brightly, "I hope I haven't seen the fact that 'City of God' will not be known to you."

Lance put his right finger on his lips, "Shh, secret." One move made everyone chuckled. Looking up, Lance saw Angelina Jolie leaning against the corner, holding a glass of whiskey in her hand and a cigarette in her mouth. Her eyes were blurred and distant in the smoke, looking at Lance - or the person opposite Lance.

Lance raised his eyebrows and said with a chuckling, "Although I know this is offensive, I must admit that your wife is a very attractive woman." This sentence was said to Brad.

This sentence made Jennifer shyly laugh, and Brad raised his chin provocatively, glanced at Lance, and sneered softly, "I know, this is the truth."
