016 Wisdom Eyes Pearls

Lance walked out of the bathroom and wiped his wet hair with a bath towel. He was soaked all over his body just now. After coming back, the first thing he did was to take a shower first. He looked out the window and saw that the rainstorm had turned into a light rain, and the sky gradually began to brighten, from navy blue to light blue. I just didn't know when it would stop, and the thick clouds still did not dissipate. I thought it was just a thunderstorm, but I didn't expect it to stop.

The milky yellow light dyed the whole room a warm atmosphere. The extremely strange but familiar decoration radiated a sense of peace of mind everywhere. Originally, Lance thought that his memory of this place was blurred, but after he actually came in, every detail was so clear, as if it was always hidden in the depths of his mind and never disappeared.

In fact, after leaving Diorama, Lance could not be considered to have nothing. After all, he has achieved remarkable results in the past six years. Although most of the income has been recycled into the company and there is not much flexible funds that can be misappropriated at any time, Lance did not treat himself badly in his personal life.

This three-bedroom and two-living apartment is the property under the name of Reims, located in the star-studded Century City.

Century City is one of the prime locations in Los Angeles. Although the price is not as good as luxury houses such as Westwood District and Beverly Hills, it is located in the center of the city, very close to important places such as Beverly Hills, Hollywood Avenue, and Burbank. It can be said to be a unique location for the film industry. Therefore, the price is not cheap.

The innovative artist brokerage company, which ranks among the top five brokerage companies in the United States, is headquartered in Century City. In addition, many film production companies and entertainment-related industry companies are located here - Diorama Film is also one of them, which is why Lance bought an apartment here - it took only five minutes to drive from the apartment to the company.

Standing in this space again, Lance felt the smell of "home" again, relaxing all emotions.

Percy sat quietly at the dining table, his light golden hair covering his ears, soft and lightly depicting the angular facial features, revealing a handsome and cold temperament. His eyebrows, which were like a long sword, were hidden under the shadow of the milky yellow light, and he could only vaguely see a trace of concentration between the sparse eyebrows. Looking at the pile of scattered information on the table, he felt that his eyes were black and he didn't know where to start.

In Hollywood, for producers and agents, their most valuable assets are their connections and information - simply put, they are unknown inside stories and secrets, as well as a complete set of information and related precautions for key figures, which are their capital to gain a foothold in the fierce competition.

The messy pile of information in front of me was Lance's "property". When Lance left Diorama, Ryan completely formatted Lance's computer hard drive, and all the information was cleared, and it was not that easy to recover. Even most of these paper materials were taken away, and the rest were completely disrupted, and they could not clarify their ideas at all. They looked like a pile of waste paper.

Percy has been trying to sort the data again these days, but the difficulty of the task is far beyond imagination. At this moment, a sound of footsteps came over. He looked up and saw the oncoming Lance. Lance changed into a smoky gray shirt, and his temperament softened. He buttoned the shirt while sitting down opposite the dining table.

Percy was slightly stunned, then pointed to the coffee pot next to him, "What are your plans next? Do you plan to continue to fight for it? It is difficult to find out about Sofia Coppola's whereabouts, but it is not impossible..." After saying halfway, Percy couldn't help but stop. Lance poured a cup of coffee, then added two sugar cubes, and poured half a cup of milk. Percy felt quite surprised - Lance wouldn't have been so sweet when drinking coffee in the past.

"The 'Lost Tokyo' matter will be discussed later. You can show me the adaptation rights of those novels and the contract." Lance put the coffee aside, then picked up the bag of rainbow candies on the table, opened it and poured a few into his palms, and put them in his mouth. Only then did he see Percy staring at the candy in his hand intently. He put the candy in front of Percy and cast the inquiring eyes.

Percy then came to his senses, waved his hand in a panic, rejecting Lance's kindness, "Yes, the copyright of the novel adaptation." Percy began to search around, and finally found the target file in the corner of the table and handed it to Lance, "These information has been completely messed up, and many important contents have been lost. This is a big problem."

Looking at the chaos on the table, Lance waved indifferently, "At least you snatched a part of it. I originally thought that Ryan had destroyed these materials long ago." They all knew the importance of these materials, and could even be said to be priceless, so Ryan would not let him bring the materials out easily. However, materials are dead, people are alive, and wisdom and ability are truly priceless things. "You can sort them out and see how many there are, and if there isn't, don't care too much."

After saying that, Lance did not disturb Percy's work anymore, but focused on the information in his hand.

Percy looked speechlessly at the man in front of him, and then at the long watermark left on the ground where Lance passed by barefoot just now... He tried to ignore the obvious watermark, calm down and devote himself to work, but he could always see it in his eyes. He felt that his whole attention was distracted. He was entangled for a while, glanced at Lance, who was concentrating, and finally stood up, found a rag from the kitchen, and started to get busy.

After a brief look, Lance found that there were six novel adaptations in his hand, which was really unexpected. You should know that these novel copyrights were bought before Li Jin came over. No matter the quality of the novel, this vision is worthy of praise. No wonder Lance could see the value of "Harry Potter" from the beginning.

Lance opened all three of the top novels and read the story summary carefully to avoid making the last mistake again and missing valuable works. However, he was disappointed.

First of all, it must be admitted that Reims is indeed unique. He first studied English Language, Literature and Philosophy at the University of Southern California, then studied Spanish and French at the University of Cambridge, and then studied at the Royal College of Drama Arts in the UK. He has a higher sensitivity to language and literature and art.

The three novels that Lance just read all have one thing in common, both literary and social. One of them is called "The Chaotic World", which tells the life of a young Tanzanian generation in a period of drastic social changes. It not only tells the protagonist's short and sensational life, but also describes the local life in Tanzania in detail. It has some Jane-Austen style, but it has a distinct African style.

But these three novels have one thing in common: adaptation is too difficult and filming is even more difficult - the current regime problem in East Africa is still turbulent. At least in Lance's memory, no one was able to successfully move it to the big screen until 2015.

Immediately after reading the fourth book, I was disappointed. Maybe because of the high expectations before, I was disappointed more clearly now. Lance felt that his head began to swollen, so he poured himself a cup of coffee, lit a cigarette, and prepared to continue reading the fifth novel. But after thinking about it, Lance put the fifth novel back, searched for it, and took out the contract.

This contract was drafted by Diorama Pictures, and the legal provisions are still a heavenly book for Lance, but it can be seen that the main content is that Lance transferred the adaptation rights of the six novels he had to Diorama Pictures for $150,000. The 150,000 US dollars, roughly speaking, this is really a low price.

However, if considering the situation of Lance and Diorama - adapting novels from Africa and South America in Hollywood in 2002, it is indeed an impossible task; not to mention that Lance is single, while Diorama is a second-tier production company, these adaptations can be more valued in the hands of Diorama. Then, $150,000 is a generous deal.

To make a horizontal comparison, Lance successfully won the film adaptation rights of the "Harry Potter" series for $250,000; then Ryan and Tucker sold the adaptation rights to Warner Bros. for $750,000; then Warner Bros. later, the commercialization rights and patent use rights of the series were purchased from J-K-Rowling for $300,000.

In this way, the transaction amount of this contract can be considered generous. It can be seen that Ryan has indeed spent a lot of effort to make Lance take action willingly.

Lance has begun to seriously think about whether he should have signed this contract - at least, so that he can have $150,000 in activity funds - anyway, these six novels do not have the value of adaptation in a short period of time, so it is better to use them to cash out. However, for filming a movie, $150,000 is simply a drop in the bucket, not to mention that he has to pay taxes on this income.

After skipping those tedious legal provisions, Lance found the detailed terms about the six novels and read them one by one. Then Lance's gaze suddenly stopped, and a name came into view, "City of Gods", which made Lance suddenly sit up straight, and the cells in his body were mobilized.

Lance carefully confirmed the relevant terms of "City of Gods", but did not find the content he needed to confirm. So he threw the contract over, searched the side, and found the novel at the bottom. Lance quickly opened it and read it carefully.

"City of Gods", author Paulo Lins, Brazilian novel!

In an instant, the lights of the whole world lit up, and a burst of ecstasy in my mind surged. This is what he had been looking for. This is what he needed most at this moment. This is what he longed for in his heart! He discovered a treasure! "City of God", the novel later became famous all over the world and was adapted into a famous movie - "City of God"!
