Chapter 127 What do you think
The wedding banquet for Lu Jiuyuan that night allowed Mao Geng to meet this famous master of "heart learning" in the Song Dynasty.
Lu Jiuyuan's "mind learning" is said to be the kindness of subjective idealism. Of course, this is the hat that later generations have been labeled. Lu Jiuyuan's "inventing the original mind" is nothing more than thinking that people have a kind heart when they are born. As long as you brush away the dust, you can make this kind heart no longer covered in dust. In other words, it is that "truth, goodness, beauty" is born in your heart. As long as you concentrate on discovering, one day you will suddenly realize that truth, goodness, beauty is in your heart. Congratulations, when you reach this state, you will have the potential to become a moral expert.
Lu Jiuyuan's "mind learning" and Zhu Xi's Neo-Confucianism had their own advantages, but there was a famous academic debate between Lu Jiuyuan and Zhu Xi, which was the famous Ehu Meeting.
In the second year of Chunxi (1175), at the invitation of Lu Zuqian, Lu Jiuyuan and Lu Jiuling came to the Ehu Temple in Qianshan, Xinzhou to meet Zhu Xi. Lu Zuqian's original intention was to bridge the differences between Zhu Xi and Lu Jiuyuan's brothers and "meet together". However, after the two sides entered the role, they refused to give in to each other academically, which triggered an academic debate that lasted more than ten days, known in history as the "Ehu Meeting".
Generally speaking, the dispute between Zhu and Lu included both ontological issues, epistemological issues, and methodological issues.
According to later generations, the focus of the two differences was whether the mind was the body of the universe. Zhu Xi used the mind and reason to be closely connected and different, reason was the body, the mind was not the body, but the mind was the subject of cognition; Lu Jiuyuan used the mind and reason as one, and the mind was the body of the universe, and the mind was the body of the universe.
Zhu Xi believed that reason is the root of all things, and the mind possesses all principles and responds to all things, so he advocates to explore the principles immediately. Through the accumulation of objects today and tomorrow, "studying things to achieve knowledge", and finally achieves sudden understanding and mastering the principles of heaven; Lu Jiuyuan believed that the mind contains all things, and the mind is the principles and becomes the universe, so he advocates first establishing the greatness, mastering the highest laws of the universe, advocating separation from things and self-understanding, and seeking from the heart inside.
Zhu Xi believed that principles are in things (qi), and one principle is scattered into many different things, and each thing has its own principles. He advocated that things are things, and he pursued their principles, focused on teaching and reading, and had extensive reading. Lu Jiuyuan believed that principles are in my heart, my heart is the principle, and my heart is the universe, and conscience is inherent in conscience, so he advocated inventing the original mind and focusing on "nourishing the mind" by looking for it in reverse, and opposed blindly speaking and reading, believing that teaching can only be separated. Only by caring about the inner self-realization of the heart can you see the mind and understand the truth and achieve the simplicity of the simple.
Regarding the dispute between Zhu and Lu, Mao Geng was that in terms of theory, Zhu Xi's Neo-Confucianism should be more tenable, but in terms of emotion, Mao Geng was more inclined to Lu Jiuyuan's side. It was nothing else, because the reflection of the Republic of China on "Neo-Confucianism harmed people", and the saying "preserving the principles of heaven and destroying human desires" made Mao Geng extremely disgusted with Zhu Xi. On the contrary, "The universe is my heart, and my heart is the universe" has the courage to suck the heaven and earth, and there is probably only Lu Jiuyuan dare to say the words "Six classics are me, and I am annotating the Six Classics". Among these two thinkers in the Song Dynasty, Mao Geng was of course more willing to cooperate with Lu Jiuyuan.
The next day, the whaling cannon could not be tested, so even the test cannon was pushed to the third day.
So, the next day, Mao Geng, as the owner, took Lu Jiuyuan for a visit.
As a military weapon supervisor, Lu Jiuyuan has been the direct supervisor of Kaohsiung City since then. Mao Geng is now careful in everything, so he will naturally have the awareness of actively handing over.
Gunpowder factories are already producing purified gunpowder.
The original use of the nitrate in the Song Dynasty contained too many impurities, and the ratio of sulfur and charcoal to be the best, so the power of the explosion was greatly reduced.
Today's nitrate is repeatedly purified by egg white and animal glue, and the ratio is more scientific. Therefore, the power of newly produced gunpowder is no longer comparable to that of the past.
After visiting the mine-making factory, Lu Jiuyuan began to feel excited.
"Mr. Xiangshan, what do you think?" Seeing Lu Jiuyuan's face showed joy, Mao Geng didn't forget to let him express his opinion.
"Brother Tongfu praised it strongly in the letter, and Chief Executive Mao did not disappoint Lu! Lu was the right person. However, it seems that improving gunpowder and inventing landmines is not enough to reflect Chief Executive Mao's intelligence. After Lu sees the power of the cannon tomorrow, Lu will express his complete view."
OK! Lu Jiuyuan's words were actually quite impressive. Mao Geng felt that Lu Jiuyuan's words were already a great praise, and he was very helpful in his heart.
In the afternoon, Mao Geng took Lu Jiuyuan to see other factories except military equipment production. Lu Jiuyuan became happier the more he looked. In the end, Lu Jiuyuan felt that it was necessary to ask Mao Geng a question:
"Teacher Mao, what do you think about regaining his hometown and deciding on the Central Plains in the north?"
"If Mr. Xiangshan is willing to accompany me here in Kaohsiung for three years, I think that in three years, I can settle the Central Plains."
According to Lu Jiuyuan's pursuit, this question must be asked, and Mao Geng is not surprised at all. Mao Geng felt that if everything goes well, the Song Dynasty would be able to establish a military advantage in about a year. However, even in this era, war is a competition of comprehensive strength. Mao Geng felt that it was safe to have three years of industrial development to establish a comprehensive advantage of sweeping the Jin soldiers.
"Teacher Mao has promoted Lu, but in fact, it is not necessary to use Lu here. In three years, you can also decide the Central Plains in one battle. What kind of virtue does Lu have to let Chief Mao promote this!"
Mao Gen said solemnly:
"Mr. Xiangshan used to give lectures at the Imperial College. There is a passage I remember clearly below - 'The sage values China and is inferior to barbarians, not private China. China has the harmony between heaven and earth, so etiquette and righteousness lies. Those who value China do not value China, but also value etiquette and righteousness.' The teacher's speech is incisive and admires it very much."
This admiration is not a compliment, it is Mao Geng’s admiration from the bottom of his heart. Mao Geng felt that Lu Jiuyuan’s words could be translated into several versions.
Translated into the version of the American imperialist in later generations, that is, our China's "benevolence, righteousness, propriety, wisdom and trustworthiness" is the universal value of the world, so China is superior to others. Anyone who supports or yearns for China can be an allies or can cooperate. As for those who oppose China, it is deviating from universal values and belongs to the axis of terrorism and evil.
Translated into the 21st century version of the Celestial Empire, that is, China is a model of the "Three Represents": it represents the most advanced productivity, the most advanced culture, and the interests of the vast majority of the people. Therefore, only China has the supreme authority of "paying for the hunting on behalf of the emperor and urging the people to punish crimes".
Of course, at least compared with the primitive tribes in Taiwan, the Song Dynasty was indeed a representative of advanced civilization. The Song Dynasty led the primitive tribes toward advanced civilization, which is Lu Jiuyuan's logic and the supreme correct logic.
What Mao Geng admired even more was that Lu Jiuyuan was the most outstanding orator of this era, no doubt about it.
Lu Jiuyuan's speech was said to be so amazing that even the peddlers were happy to listen to his speeches on the spot. His lectures were often unprecedented, with hundreds of people counting. Because there were too many listeners, they could often only choose to teach in famous Buddhist temples in various places, because only the venues there could accommodate many listeners.
There is a record that describes Lu Jiuyuan’s lecture:
"Every day, the drums in the cemetery sounded, and then he came to the mountain sedan chair. He bowed and raised his face and sat down, with a pure and energetic look. Scholars also wrote a small card with a name and year-old man, and read it in order. There were no less than tens of hundred people, and they were all solemn and unmoved. They taught themselves to restrain their spirit, cultivate their virtues, and listened with humility. All the students listened to them. They did not only preach, but they always inspired people's original hearts. The sermons were used as evidence, and their voices were heard in the clear country, and all the listeners were moved and aroused."
Such a master is not only born a thinker, but also a educator. Sometimes, he can be called a sophist.
"Mr. Xiangshan, what do you think of Kaohsiung Special Administrative Region?"
"Very good, as Brother Fu said, this is where the hope of the Song Dynasty."
Of course, Mao Geng didn't just want to hear Lu Jiuyuan's words. Mao Geng shook his head and sighed:
"Mr. Xiangshan, I feel that there is a great flaw here."
"Oh, what's the shortcoming?"
"Don't Mr. Xiangshan think there is a missing academy here? I want to set up academy here, so it's best to catch up with the size of the Imperial College in the future. What do you think?"
