Chapter 1 The ancient capital Chang'an(1/2)
I don’t know how many times I have heard of the name Chen Wanrong of Chang’an, and I have long admired him. I wish I could arrive in Chang’an as soon as possible to see the famous ancient capital in Chinese history.
Chen Zairong also wanted to arrive in Chang'an early and get very fast. Xiao Hei was born to like running, so he ran very lightly, not like four living people on the car, and it was no different from pulling an empty car. When he ran to the happy place, he yelled from time to time, and soon passed Ning County.
As soon as we passed Ning County, the number of cars and horses suddenly increased, and we were heading towards Chang'an. As the largest city in the world at that time, Chang'an had amazing absorption power and there must be many vehicles heading towards Chang'an. Chen Wanrong was not surprised at all. What surprised Chen Wanrong was that there were so many people, with the caps and caps facing each other, and they were endless. At first glance, there were all running vehicles, like a long dragon, rushing towards Chang'an.
This scene is so shocking. Although Chen Wanrong has seen a lot of traffic during the peak period of modern cities, he has to sigh: "There are so many cars!"
Chen and his wife rarely go out. They first encountered such a lively scene in their lives. They were stunned for a moment before echoing Chen Wanrong's words: "That's not it!" They were so shocked that they didn't even have any extra words, but only a pair of eyes slipped around the official road.
"Brother, what's this? Starting from Baqiao, there are more cars and horses there, much more than this." Chen Zairong glanced at Chen Houshi, who was a little disbelief: "Dad, I'll take you to Baqiao to have a look."
"Okay!" It's human nature to love excitement, and Chen Houshi agreed without thinking.
Chen Wang rolled his eyes: "Old man, you are not young anymore, you are still like a child. You are here to do serious business, not for you to play, don't yell around there."
It was a rare opportunity for the two elders to come out once, so it would be nice to let them see it. What's more, when Chen Wanrong heard Chen Zairong's words, he was curious and wanted to see what happened, and said, "Zairong, it won't take much time to go around, right?"
"No, with Xiao Hei's foot strength, it will be at most half an hour." Chen Zairong pondered for a moment.
It was still early, and even if you went to see it, it would not be a mistake. Chen Wanrong said excitedly: "Then let's go and have a look!"
Chen Wangshi reminded: "Wanrong, you can't mislead things."
"Mom, don't worry!" Before Chen Wanrong could speak, Chen Zairong took over the conversation: "It's a scene to say goodbye to Baqiao. If you come to Chang'an, you won't go to see him, just like not coming. The parting person broke up at Baqiao, broke up willows and bid farewell, and said goodbye. That scene is very touching. Mom, you have to prepare your tears, and you can cry when you get off."
The last sentence was joking. Chen Wangshi was very happy and reached out to wrinkle Chen Zairong's clothes: "How did this kid say?"
Chen Zairong pulled the rope and Xiao Hei broke from the fork road and ran eastward. Ning County was in the northwest of Chang'an. Chen Wanrong and the others should have entered the city from Kaiyuanmen to the west, while Ba Bridge was in the east of Chang'an, so they wanted to run eastward.
As Chen Zairong said, Xiao Heijiao was quick and he arrived at the Ba River shortly after. The Ba River has no idea for us modern people. For the Tang people, the Ba River is a household name, because you go to Chang'an after passing the Ba River.
A wooden beam stone pillar pier bridge spanning the Ba River is particularly conspicuous. Four round stone pillars are connected to form a stone pillar, and six stone pillars form a bridge pier. The Ba Bridge is about one mile long and more than two meters wide. There are countless pedestrians and vehicles on the bridge, and they pass through orderly.
There is a stone pier beside the bridge, with the word "Baqiao" written on it. It is written in official script, with vigorous and powerful handwriting and fresh handwriting, but the stone pier is seriously weathered and it should be a while ago.
Chen Zairong's knowledge was well developed, and he explained to Chen Wanrong and others: "The original name of Ba River was Zishui. Qin Mugong Ba Xirong changed his name to Ba River and built a bridge over the water, called "Ba Bridge". Now this bridge was built in the Han Dynasty and lasted for hundreds of years."
Chen Wanrong suddenly realized that no wonder his handwriting was still new, and the stone pier was already very dilapidated. It should be that the Tang Dynasty took the same measures as our modern protection of antiques and re-entered the handwriting, which was so new. However, the stone pier could not be repaired, so it could only remain the same as before.
Looking at the traffic, Chen Wanrong was excited. Chen Wanrong was not a history student, nor did he even know the importance of Ba Bridge. Anyone with a little history knowledge knows that what we often say is "the heroic style of the Qin and Han Dynasties and the atmosphere of the prosperous Tang Dynasty" is closely related to Ba Bridge. It can be said that Ba Bridge is a gathering place for the glorious history of ancient China. I don't know how many historical celebrities passed here.
Qin Shi, Han, Han, Tang Taizong, all of them had passed here and moved towards the glory of their lives. Qin Shihuang's invincible army went east from here to Hangu Pass, went to the battlefield in Shandong, wiped out the six kingdoms, unified China, and opened a new era of Chinese history! Wei Qing, the favorite general of Emperor Wu of Han, rushed to the desert from here, commanded thousands of troops to defeat the Huns in the depths of the desert, and wrote the magnificent songs of "Shanyu Escape at Night" and "Feeding the Wolf Juxu". The amazing and stunning general Li Jing also set out from here and began his journey to attack Yinshan at night and wipe out the Turks.
Baqiao is a holy place for Chen Wanrong, and Chen Wanrong is so excited to come here.
Just when Chen Wanrong was excited, he heard Chen Wang's sob: "They are breaking willows there."
The willow and Liu are homophonic, and the willows are broken and sent to each other, which means to keep guests. The long willow branches sway in the breeze, as if waving to relatives traveling farewell. Therefore, the Tang people often fold willows to say goodbye, and Baqiao is the most famous place for the Tang Empire to send willows. Not only because Chang'an is the capital of the Tang Empire, there are many people coming and going to Chang'an, but also because there are many willow trees beside Baqiao, with green willows and tender buds being drawn.
There were countless vehicles parked on the road eastward. Those who bid farewell either drank, cooked tea, sipped in the pavilion, or wrote poems. No matter which method they took, they would eventually break down willow branches to say goodbye to their friends. At the time of parting, tears in their eyes, waved their hands to send them off, and their reluctance to leave them was broken.
Although Chen Wanrong did not say goodbye, the feeling of hurting her face came to her face, making her nose sour. Chen Wang's heart was the softest, and first of all, she couldn't stand it. The tears in her eyes rolled around and started urging her: "All Rong, hurry up, let's leave here. If you stay still, your mother can't help it."
Chen Laoshi's nose was also sore and he squeezed it hard: "All honor, hurry up."
Infected by this sincere pain, Chen Zairong's expression had become much dimmed, and he wanted to leave early, so he responded and drove the ox cart to Baqiao.
Chen Wanrong looked back at those who bid farewell, and couldn't help but feel emotion. He remembered that he and his relatives from another world were in two different worlds. He could not meet again in this life. He was particularly excited and could not help but recite Li Bai's famous work "Remembering Qin'e" "The sound of the flute is soaring, Qin'e's dream is broken by the moon of Qin'e. The moon of Qin'e is the willow color every year, and the farewell of Baling is sad. The Qing Autumn Festival on the land is on the Qing Dynasty, and the ancient road of Xianyang is gone. The sound is gone, the sound is gone, the sunset is gone, and the Han family's tombs are gone."
This article "Remembering Qin'e" is very sad and makes people choke when reading it, especially "The willows are so beautiful every year, and the farewell of Baling" is even more touching.
Those who bid farewell were already very excited. When they were excited by the poem, they could no longer control their emotions. Many people choked up and sang softly, "The willows are in pain every year, and Baling is sad for farewell."
Chen Wanrong was originally inspired and recited Li Bai's famous works, but unexpectedly he became an "emotional catalyst" and cried. The poems of the immortal are really infectious, and they deserve the title of the immortal! Although their separation is sad, they can meet each other. There is no possibility of meeting each other with their relatives in another world. They can no longer bear it, and tears burst out from their eyes.
Chen Laoshi and Chen Zairong didn't know what Chen Wanrong was thinking, and thought he was moved by this sad parting. He wanted to comfort him, but before he could say it, he couldn't help it, and tears rushed and cried into tears.
People who bid farewell to Chang'an are often emotionally excited. There are countless people who cry like Chen Wanrong and others. They are very common on this official road leading to Chang'an. People don't think they are the farewell people.
Baqiao is more than 20 miles away from Chang'an, and it won't take much time for Xiao Hei. After running for a while, Chen Wanrong's mood stabilized, wiped away his tears and looked at the scene in Guanzhong.
Just as I saw it, Chen Zairong said excitedly: "Dad, mother, brother, Chang'an is here. Yanxingmen is ahead!"
Chen Wanrong looked forward and the majestic Chang'an city walls came into view. Chang'an, the famous ancient capital, was finally in front of him. Chen Wanrong couldn't help but feel excited, and wanted to get close to see it carefully, urging him: "Hurry up, hurry up."
Chen Zairong responded and retorted lightly. The little black hair roared and rushed towards Chang'an City quickly. When he got closer, Chen Wanrong looked at it for a moment and felt that he was as small as a mosquito in front of the majestic ancient city. He sighed: "What a majestic city!"
The earliest construction of Chang'an was after the establishment of the Western Han Dynasty. Prime Minister Xiao He was ordered to build a city, and it only became large-scale in the reign of Emperor Hui of Han Liu Ying. From then on, it has been added and expanded throughout the ages. Chang'an has a history of nearly a thousand years in the Tang Dynasty. For the Tang people, Chang'an was also an ancient city and capital.
Chang'an's development was not smooth. It had experienced catastrophes. At the end of the Western Han Dynasty, the Green Forest and Red Eyebrow Uprising caused great damage to Chang'an. Therefore, Emperor Guangwu of Han Liu Xiu had to set up his capital in Luoyang. At the end of the Eastern Han Dynasty, Dong Zhuo's entry into Chang'an was another catastrophe. When the Sui Dynasty was established, although Chang'an had a revival, it was far inferior to when the Han Dynasty was in its prime. Emperor Wen of Sui began to build Chang'an, which was called Daxing City at that time.
After the establishment of the Tang Dynasty, it was renamed Chang'an and expanded on a large scale based on the Sui Chang'an. By the Jingyun period, the Tang Dynasty had been established for nearly a hundred years. After the Zhenguan ruled the Tang Dynasty's national strength, Chang'an ushered in a golden period of development, which was much larger than Chang'an in the early Sui Dynasty.
The overall layout of Chang'an is a rectangular shape. The outermost city wall is called Guocheng, which is nearly ten kilometers wide from east to west and nearly nine kilometers long from north to south. Guocheng is built by ramming and about 12 meters thick. There are also city moats about four meters deep and ten meters wide outside Guocheng. Defensive facilities such as arrows are built on Guocheng.
Chang'an was carefully planned and built, with three gates open in the east, west, south and north, which refers to the city gate used by the civilians. There is Xuanwu Gate in the north, so of course it will not be used for the people, because when Xuanwu Gate enters, it is the imperial city for the emperor and court officials.
Each gate has three to five gates. Mingde Gate in the south has five gates, and the rest are three gates.
The three gates on the east side are Tonghua Gate, Jianchun Gate, and Yanxing Gate. Yanxing Gate is in the southmost direction. Chen Zairong chose to enter the city from Yanxing Gate because their destination Qujiang is in the southeast corner of the city, and it is closest to enter from Yanxing Gate.
The city wall at the city gate was thickened to 19 meters. On it, there was a city tower built, and a plaque "Yanxingmen" was written on it. It was neither seal script nor clerical script, with a style of regular script, full of strength and good characters. Chen Wanrong secretly praised it.
A group of soldiers stood on the city gate, with bright helmets and armors, shining in the sun, like a mirror reflecting. They were carrying horizontal knives, with bows and arrows, with feet apart and shoulders wide, and long spears on the ground. They stood straight, like wooden stakes that were unshakable.
The three doorways of Yanxingmen are 19 meters deep. Pedestrians and vehicles pass through the doorway. They are in order and are not at all disordered.
The green stone on the door is based on the blue stone, which is particularly conspicuous. There is a team of soldiers standing on each side of the doorway, each with ten people. Their equipment and standing posture are the same as those of the soldiers on the head of the city tower. They look ahead without turning their eyes, as if the traffic is full of traffic does not exist to them.
Chen Wanrong had seen the city gate army in Ning County and shouted and shouted, as if modern traffic police were directing the flow of people in and out. The soldiers here stood there like statues, and they did not pay attention to the passing pedestrians at all, but the pedestrians were in order. The difference between the two places was already very obvious.
We are still praising the martial arts of the Tang Dynasty thousands of years later. They went from Lake Baikal to the north to the Middle East to the west, and they were invincible in the battle. They destroyed dozens of countries and were fascinated by great achievements. Facing the great army that created such great achievements, Chen Wanrong felt respect in his heart. He straightened his chest and gave them a scrutiny to show his respect.
The ox cart was walking into the middle of the doorway, and a carriage came towards me, with a tall and big horse, which was very majestic. Although Chen Wanrong knew that there were many such horses in Chang'an, he still couldn't help but praise him.
I don’t know where the little black hair is crazy, so I roared at the horse, very angry, my eyes were blood red, as if I saw an enemy. The horse was running very smoothly, but when I heard Xiao Hei’s roar, I couldn’t help but neigh, and I was immediately frightened and rushed out of my hooves.
If the horse rushes randomly, it will inevitably cause chaos and lead to traffic congestion. The two soldiers on both sides of the doorway each took a step forward, one with their left and the other with the right hand, holding the horse's bridle. The two of them had a uniform movement, as if they had been trained for a long time.
The horse's head was shaking, trying to get rid of the two soldiers, but the soldiers stood in the local area, as if their feet were rooted, and they didn't move at all. However, the blue veins on their faces proved that they were competing with the shocked horse. The coachman kept scolding him. The three of them cooperated. After a while, the horse stopped tossing and quieted down.
Let go of the horse's head, the soldiers returned to the team, standing in the local area like wooden stakes, as if nothing had happened just now.
Chen Zairong nodded and praised, "Good strength!" He was extremely strong, and it was not easy to get him to praise him. He smiled at the two soldiers, and Chen Zairong drove the ox cart out of the way.
The doorway was nineteen meters deep, and it seemed like drilling a culvert while walking through it, giving people a sense of depression. As soon as he left the doorway, Chen Wanrong felt relaxed and was about to breathe, but his mouth opened his head and exclaimed in his heart, "Oh my God, this is Chang'an!"
"What a wide street." Chen Laoshi was surprised to see the wide street, and his mouth unnaturally turned into a round shape.
On the other hand, Chen Wangshi valued: "The streets are so neat. People on the streets dress so beautifully."
After all, Chang'an is a metropolis. The prosperous atmosphere of the city comes to the face, making people unexpectedly think that they are already in a metropolis. The streets are wide and tidy, and there are many shops. It is worthy of being a prosperous city. Pedestrians are dressed in bright clothes, and Chen Wanrong and the others are all wearing new clothes. Chen Wanrong thinks it is not fashionable, and it should not be bad in Luojiadian, but it is incomparable in Chang'an. It can only be said to be a rustic local bun.
The school museum organizes spring festivals every year. Chen Zairong has been to Chang'an and is very familiar with Chang'an. After listening to Chen's husband and wife, he smiled and said, "Dad, mother, don't be surprised. This street leads to Yanpingmen, which is the narrowest of Chang'an Street, and the other streets are two of this streets so wide. The Zhuque Street, which leads to Mingdemen, is the widest street in Chang'an, and three of this streets are so wide."
"Really? No matter how lucky you are, you didn't lie to your mother?" Chen Wangshi looked surprised and didn't believe it was true.
This street is fifty meters wide. Not to mention in the Tang Dynasty, it is no longer small in modern cities. There are three such wide streets in Zhuque Street, which is really difficult to accept the fact that Chen and his wife have just accepted it for a while.
Chen Wanrong believed that what Chen Zairong said was true. With the grandeur of the Tang Dynasty, not to mention one hundred and fifty meters, even the widest street was not a problem. He said: "Mom, what Zairong said should be true." (Note: The exact width of Zhuque Street is 155 meters.)
Even the capable Chen Wanrong thought so. Chen and his wife couldn't refuse to believe it. They swallowed their saliva and said, "That's right, that's right, Wanrong said it's right!"
Chen Wanrong was a little funny after hearing this. It was not up to me to say it, but it was up to the court. However, Chen Wanrong was very warm to me, because the two elders trusted him so much.
Chen Zairong was very excited: "Mom, I didn't tell you that the prosperity of Zhuque Street was not something I saw with my own eyes, but it was boring to hear it. I'll take you to have a look."
Although Chen Laoshi wanted to go and watch the fun, he did not forget the main business and hurriedly said, "No matter how Rong, don't go, it's important to be busy with the main business. Wanrong, what do you think we should do?"
In a metropolis like Chang'an, Chen Hushi had no idea at all. Chen Wangshi was not much better than him. He looked at Chen Wanrong and waited for him to make an idea.
It is not impossible to go shopping, but it is more important to do the important business first. Chen Wanrong pondered for a moment and said, "Zairong, you are familiar with Chang'an. Go to find a store next to Qujiang to stay in first."
No one in the family would not refuse Chen Wanrong's decision. Chen Zairong responded and drove the ox cart and walked south.
In addition to the imperial city, there are a total of 108 square meters in Chang'an. The so-called squares are divided into crisscrossing streets. These areas are rectangular, but the size is somewhat different. Each square is built with a wall ranging from three to five meters, with doors on the walls for easy access.
If Chang'an is made into a model, Chang'an is composed of pieces of tofu blocks, and these tofu blocks are fangs. Passing through Shengdaofang, Lizhengfang, Dunhuafang, and coming to Qinglongfang, Chen Zairong drove the ox cart directly into the door and ran towards the "Grand-Happy Hotel".
There are many names for hotels in the Tang Dynasty, including restaurants, hotels, shops and houses.
(Note: When we mention the word Fang, we think of Lefang. What is Lefang? A place where men are ecstatic. The Tang Dynasty Fang did not refer to this unclean place, but to a regional unit.)
"Customer, are you staying in a hotel or playing the top spot?" The owner of the shop is a man in his forties, a little fat, and hurriedly came out of the shop to greet him, with a smile on his face and a kind attitude.
"Shopkeeper, we stay in the hotel." Chen Zairong pulled the rope and stopped the ox cart.
Chen Wanrong and the other old man got out of the car, and the owner shouted at the store: "Come on, get off the customer's car, and give the cow some fodder."
Xiao Hei's temperament will not let strangers approach, Chen Wanrong smiled and stopped him, "Shopkeeper, I am a little arrogant and have a strong temperament, so I'd better do it myself."
When he saw Xiao Hei's appearance, although he did not show his power, he was still quite intimidating. The owner stopped insisting and nodded, "Since that's the case, there will be a customer."
Chen Wanrong was talking to the shop owner, and Chen Zairong had already moved down a few boxes of soap. The boxes were actually not heavy, but the soap was packed in boxes, which took up a lot of space, so it was not difficult for Chen Zairong to move them up.
After getting out of the car, Chen Wanrong, led by his friend, drove Xiao Hei to the stable to tie it up, put some grass on it, and then turned around. When Chen Wanrong returned to the store, Chen Zairong had already put the car into the warehouse of the guest house.
"Customer, what room do you want? Do you want it?" The owner did not forget to start a business when he asked: "The shop's room is clean and refreshing, and has complete equipment, which is especially suitable for families like you who travel together."
Chen Wanrong had to make the decision on this matter. Chen Laoshi and his wife couldn't help but look at Chen Wanrong. Chen Laoshi winked at Chen Wanrong. Chen Wang gently pulled Chen Wanrong's sleeve, meaning that Chen Wanrong wanted a cheap room.
"What is the price for a housekeeper?" You have to ask the price for a room to live in, so you can decide what kind of room you want to live in.
"Customer, the price of the shop is fair and the price is not deceptive. Living in it will make you feel comfortable." The owner first made a boastful word and then got to the topic: "A room is three hundred and a night, two beds."
To be continued...
