Chapter 588 Trouble in 1888
Three little pickpockets were circling in the crowd. If it weren't for the spiritual vision, Chen Ke might not have been able to follow them closely.
Unlike what they expected, the place where they hid was not the Big Ben Clock Tower, but around it and ran straight towards a secluded street.
The street is so cold that it is out of place with Longton, the residents on the street are slow, and the carriages on the outside street never drive here.
Chen Ke slowed down at the right time because he noticed that when he stepped into this mysterious community, many eyes were already staring at him.
The craftsmen who do handicrafts, hawkers, and women who wash clothes at their doorsteps all looked at Chen Ke secretly. They had no murderous aura, but the vigilant and suspicious look was also uncomfortable.
"Stop." A calm female voice came from a room.
Chen Ke stood on the street, and it seemed that the person here was about to appear.
"It seems my kids have come back with a tail. Who are you? What are you doing here?" asked the female voice.
Chen Ke looked up and saw a bunch of young people appearing on the roofs on both sides. They were holding crossbows in their hands and aiming at him.
"I have no malice." Chen Ke said with his hands open.
"A stranger answering the question." The female voice said again.
"You'd better show up and talk to me, not to talk..." As soon as Chen Ke spoke, three arrows shot into the mud in front of him, only half a step away from him.
"You are not qualified to bargain," said the female voice.
"Your children are pickpockets," said Chen Ke.
"So you are the sheriff? I've already done it, don't think of making another move." The female voice was a little impatient.
"No...No...I used to know a man who took in child labor and orphans in Longtown City. His children were also pickpockets. He should have some eye problems. I spent some money to ask someone to take care of him...I came to find him." Chen Ke said.
The female voice stopped for a while, as if something was brewing.
"How did you know him?" After a while, the female voice asked again.
"I haven't said his name yet." Chen Ke smiled.
Not far away, the balcony door on the second floor of a two-story building was pushed open. A white-haired old woman wearing a purple windbreaker and wearing a hair tied up, and a young woman was supporting her next to her.
"You are here to find Jacob, right?" asked the old lady.
"Yes! Then... who are you?" Chen Ke asked back.
"I am his sister, Evie." Evie said.
She looked at the roofs of buildings on both sides and the crossbowman stepped down.
"Come in." Evie said, turning around and walking into the door.
Chen Ke quickly walked into the two-story building, which was a clean apartment. Evie slowly went downstairs with the help of a young woman. After seeing Chen Ke, she signaled him to find a place to sit down.
"Cook coffee for our guests, Poloz." Evie looked at the woman.
The woman nodded and went to the kitchen to work hard.
"Yevie? Are you Jacob's sister?" Chen Ke confirmed again. The old woman had her hair tied and her face was as thin as a sharp knife. Although she was old, she must have been a beauty when she was young.
She sat opposite Chen Ke with a crutch and looked at Chen Ke cautiously.
"Yes, he didn't mention you to me?" Evie asked.
"You seem...not surprised at all? When I met Jacob, I met Jacob 29 years ago..." Chen Ke said. Since Evie knew Chen Ke, it must be what Jacob said.
"He told me that someone had paid to cure his eyes and said he knew someone from the future. So I was prepared for it," Evie said.
"He knew I would come to him again?" Chen Ke asked.
"I think this should be just his own idea. My brother is such a whimsical man." Evie smiled.
"Where is he?" Chen Ke got to the point.
"Tell me first, why are you looking for him? Why are you here for?" Evie asked.
"I... I have some things to do here and need a place to settle down. But there were some mistakes in the middle and it was 29 years late... I originally wanted to come when you were younger..." Chen Ke said.
"Well, the reason is reasonable, but you still didn't tell me what you're going to do." Evie asked.
"I don't think you'd better not know about this matter." Chen Ke said.
"I am different from my brother. Since you want to get our help, you must be open and honest." Evie did not give in.
"The more you know, the more trouble you may be, and maybe your small community will be affected. Is that okay?" Chen Ke asked.
Evie was silent for a moment, as if thinking.
Chen Ke didn't say anything, waiting for Evie to express her opinion.
"coffee."
Poloz placed two cups in front of Chen Ke and Evie, then carried a small iron kettle and poured coffee into the cup. The hot brown-black liquid hit the bottom of the cup and splashed on the blue plaid tablecloth, leaving some ink dots.
"You are so eloquent, little cutie." Evie smiled.
"I need Jacob... and your help, but I don't want to put you in danger either." Chen Ke said.
"I know, Jacob told me that you are such a person. Come and have some coffee." Evie said, stirring the coffee in the cup with a silver spoon, steaming hot.
"Then...where is Jacob? Upstairs? His eyes should be fine, right?" Chen Ke asked.
Evie didn't say anything and continued to stir the coffee.
Chen Ke noticed Evie's anxiety.
"Chen..." The door was pushed open, and a strong young man stood at the door.
Chen Ke looked at the young man, who was wearing a white long-sleeved cloth shirt and a brown jacket, with a crossbow on his back, a hunter's hat on his head, and a brown beard on his chin.
"Are you?" Chen Ke had no impression.
"I am the Grand Accord. I used a slingshot to aim at you when you climbed the window, but I didn't forget it?" Grand Accord said with a smile.
"Wait a minute... I think about it..." Chen Ke narrowed his eyes and recalled that the experience of 1859 was like a 6x speed movie and quickly passed it in his mind.
I remembered... They had just finished Baron Mox and Mrs. Kaserine that night, Jacob took himself to the unfinished workers' dormitory and said he wanted to compete for wall climbing...
"Oh my God, Da Accord, you can be my brother at your age..." Chen Ke sighed.
"You are still so young, Chen, it's so amazing, isn't it?" Da Accord also smiled.
"Where is Little Jack? Where is he?" Chen Ke asked with a smile.
The smile of the Dayaccord slowly disappeared from his face and turned into a little helplessness. He looked at Evie, not knowing whether he should say it.
"What's wrong?" Chen Ke looked at Evie and asked.
"Chen Ke, this is a bit hard to say, but Jacob may need your help again," said Evie.
Chen Ke sat down a little.
"Little Jack is gone, Jacob has been looking for him. He would have come back before, but a few months ago, Jacob disappeared..." said the Grand Accord.
"So, they disappeared? The streets are full of your spys, can't you find them?" Chen Ke asked.
"If Jacob and Jack don't want to be found by them, they won't be found. I would love to go find it myself, but I'm too old." Evie said.
"You mean, Jacob was hiding himself?" Chen Ke asked.
"This is my guess. If this is the case, it's better. But if it's not, it's bad." Evie said.
