Chapter 386: Legendary Investigator (4K)(2/3)
Fingel doubted.
"Let's put it this way, UM has a special title, investigator."
Klein introduced.
Investigators are people who travel around the world to investigate mysterious events.
This is not an official position, but a conventional title.
Regardless of whether they are faculty, staff or students, as long as they are recognized by everyone, they can obtain the title of investigator.
Legendary investigators are the top of all investigators. Only the most knowledgeable investigators who have solved countless unimaginable mysterious incidents can receive this honor.
Since the establishment of the school, there have been only three legendary investigators.
Francis Thurston, Professor of Anthropology, William Dale, Professor of Geology, and Randolph Carter, Professor of Folklore.
Randolph Carter is the only legendary investigator still alive. Both of the previous two have had their obituaries published by the school, but the cause of death has been kept secret.
"It sounds similar to the work done by the execution department."
Fingel interjected.
Indeed, in addition to dealing with rampant hybrids and dragons, the daily work of the Enforcement Department is also to investigate and search for mysterious events and objects.
Most of those mysterious events are fictional, and the remaining few are related to dragons or alchemical items.
If you put it this way, investigators should often collide with the execution department.
"What are the most famous mysteries that you have investigated?"
he asked.
"More, the scary old man, Ursa's cat, the reanimated corpse, the strange house in the fog"
Klein is very knowledgeable and briefly describes the background of each incident.
"None of this is recorded in the files of the Enforcement Department."
Fingel's face didn't look good.
In order to investigate the Greenland incident, he almost searched through the files of the Executive Department, and he had an impression of any special incident.
Apart from anything else, the incidents involving dozens of people missing will definitely be reported to the enforcement department.
Even if it has been solved by someone, the enforcement department will investigate the whole story.
If not, it was either covered up by other mixed-race forces, or the place where it happened was too remote.
The above two points are not consistent with the events Klein mentioned.
So after excluding the possibility that he lied, there is only one answer left, and these incidents have been blocked.
The Executive Directorate and the investigators were separated into two worlds by some force.
When he thought of this possibility, Fingel felt a chill in his back.
"Don't be afraid, no matter how many enemies mankind has, we will win the final victory."
Lu Mingfei held his shoulders.
That heavy palm gave Fingel confidence.
"Humanity is really in trouble."
He laughed at himself.
Scientists and many ordinary people have always been keen to find and prove the existence of intelligent creatures other than humans.
But when those existences appear in front of humans one by one, what they bring is not surprise, but panic and disaster.
"The universe has always been like this. In the dark nebula where even the stars cannot shine, there is only malice and destruction hidden."
Lu Mingfei said calmly.
Fingel only knew about dragons and those unknown beings from the mythical age, and he had personally eliminated dozens of terrifying aliens.
And for those aliens, they also come from the darkness in the universe.
Under Klein's guidance, they arrived at Randolph Carter's office.
They were also lucky, and happened to meet Carter when he came back for repairs.
The office of this legendary investigator is very luxurious, it is directly a three-story villa, but it is also consistent with his status in the school.
Entering the living room, everyone was already sitting around the sofa waiting for them.
Seeing Lu Mingfei come in, the members of the battle group, including Connie Windsor, immediately stood up.
When the assistant principal and Randolph Carter saw this, they also stood up out of politeness.
"Hello, Professor Carter, I have learned about your deeds from Klein."
Lu Mingfei gave a one-handed salute to the legendary investigator.
Anyone who fights for the survival of mankind deserves his admiration.
"Hello, Chapter Commander Lu Mingfei, I already know your name from your subordinates."
Seeing his sincere attitude, Randolph Carter responded politely.
"Let's all sit down and talk, Randolph. I remember you have some good Ceylon black tea here."
When he is away, the principal's assistant is responsible for the daily maintenance of the villa, so he knows his inventory well.
"Then please be our maid, Ms. Pales."
Randolph Carter made a joke.
"Fuck you, Randolph, be careful I put laxatives in your milk tea."
The assistant principal laughed and cursed, then turned and entered the kitchen.
Soon, several cups of sweet milk tea were served.
"I heard from Pales that you wanted to consult me on some folklore issues."
Randolph Carter took a sip of tea and went straight to the topic.
His time is precious, not even the Windsor family will allow him to waste it.
"To be precise, it's a word, Innsmouth. Has Professor Carter heard of it?"
Lu Mingfei asked.
"Innsmouth."
Randolph Carter twirled his tea cup, lost in thought.
"I did hear about this place, decades ago."
He suddenly woke up and said.
Even as a young man, Randolph Carter had developed a passion for collecting anecdotes.
Once he heard that a sailor had traveled around the world and witnessed many mysterious events, so he came to visit him.
The crew member was seriously ill and could no longer go to sea, so he settled in a small town in the Australian outback.
When Randolph Carter saw him, he was already dying and all his previous savings had been squandered.
Randolph Carter gained his trust on the condition of helping to deal with the aftermath, and learned many secrets from the crew.
A week later, the crew member died in the best local hospital.
Before he died, he seemed to see something extremely terrifying, and his eyeballs almost bulged out of their sockets.
The crew member tightly grasped Randolph Carter's hand. If one had not experienced it personally, it would be difficult to believe that a dying man could have such great strength that even a young man who had been exercising all year round could not break free.
He opened his mouth and let out a shrill howl.
"Don't take me back to Innsmouth!"
Randolph Carter imitated the tone of the crew, and everyone present felt their hair stand up.
"You don't seem to doubt what I said."
He noticed the crowd's attitude and was surprised.
Except for those at U-M, his stories are usually just regarded as stories.
"Since I'm asking you for consultation, I naturally have to give you full trust."
Lu Mingfei replied.
"Thank you for your trust, Chapter Leader Lu Mingfei."
Randolph Carter's favorability towards him has improved a bit.
He often receives related inquiries, but those people are always skeptical of his words.
Or they suspect that he is exaggerating the seriousness of the matter in order to charge higher consulting fees.
Or they doubt that the solution he provided cannot solve the problem, and then list a bunch of hearsay examples.
To be continued...
