Chapter 4 Escape on a rainy night
Back home,
Gu Hao still has the fear of zombies in his heart, but this does not affect his actions.
He dug out his travel backpack at home and filled it with food and water.
Clothes and the like are not within his scope of consideration.
Even in Kelly's small rainbow backpack, Gu Hao stuffed most of the backpack with dry food and did not put water in it because it was heavy.
If he hadn't considered the little girl's endurance, he might have stuffed more.
"Bang bang bang——!"
There was a violent knock on the iron door. It was said to be a knock, but it was more like someone hitting the door with his body.
The people outside the door are like monsters. They don’t know pain or fatigue. One impact is better than the other.
The iron door creaks, and I don’t know how long it can last.
"Dad..." Kelly hid behind Gu Hao. She had no idea what was going on outside.
"Don't worry, as long as dad is here, he will definitely protect Kelly."
Gu Hao took Kelly to the study, opened the drawer neatly, and found his gun and some bullets.
Oh, praise God!
Free America, shooting every day!
In real life, Gu Hao has never touched a gun, but for veteran detective Kyle, guns are an inseparable part.
When Kyle was in the army, he won many shooting championships and was a famous sharpshooter in the army.
After getting a gun, Gu Hao finally regained a sense of security.
Gu Hao felt Kelly pulling his clothes tightly and looked out the window at the yard in fear, too scared to say a word.
In rural towns, there are basically short bungalows, no more than three stories high.
Kyle's study is on the first floor, with a courtyard outside, separated by several pieces of floor-to-ceiling glass. You can also see the courtyard while standing in the study.
It was raining heavily outside, and a humanoid monster could be seen vaguely crawling in the yard, with its limbs distorted in ways that were not consistent with the human body.
The monster seemed to have discovered the father and daughter, changed its original crawling direction, and rushed directly to the study.
The monster's limbs are deformed and its movements are a bit stiff, but its charging speed is not slow at all.
The fragile glass couldn't stop the monster's collision at all, and it shattered to the ground with a harsh sound.
The monster rushed into the study and pounced on the two of them.
"Ah——!"
Amid Kelly's exclamations, Gu Hao calmly pulled the trigger.
One shot to the head!
The headless monster fell to the ground, twitched a few times and then became motionless.
Fortunately, they are just ordinary zombies and can be dealt with with guns.
If it is a mutant like an executioner or a tyrant, not to mention a pistol or a rocket launcher may not be effective.
Gu Hao no longer cared about so much, picked up the frightened Kelly and came to the garage.
He put Kelly and the backpack in the back seat, fastened the seat belt, then got in and shifted into gear to accelerate.
After the car ran off the road, Gu Hao stepped on the accelerator. However, the rain was too heavy, so he still retained some sense and did not really drive desperately.
In the heavy rain, visibility was very low, but the screams from all around were clearly audible, and screams of despair were everywhere.
Now, the town is completely plunged into riots.
In the car, Kelly was crying softly. Not to mention children, even adults were no better than Kelly when faced with deformed monsters.
"Kelly, everything will be fine..."
Gu Hao didn't know how to comfort Kelly. After all, he couldn't calm down now, but he just couldn't show it.
Because if he loses his cool, Kelly will only be more scared.
The car drove out of the town smoothly, but it didn't last long and was soon stuck on the highway.
"Damn it." Gu Hao cursed in a low voice.
The rain was so heavy that I couldn't see what was happening in the distance. All I could see was the dim light of the fire, and all the cars behind were blocked.
There was dense traffic ahead, and the horns kept beeping, but it was of no use. The traffic remained motionless.
Even if Gu Hao wanted to retreat to the original road to find other trails, it was a luxury. The road behind him had already been blocked by the vehicles coming from behind.
I can't go in, I can't go back, I'm stuck in the middle, it's very depressing.
Soon, a driver in front couldn't bear it anymore and ran out of the car, cursing loudly in the heavy rain.
The language is filthy, like a cry of despair.
Everyone knows that we cannot drag on like this, as the monsters behind us will catch up at some point.
During the downpour, no one noticed that the grass outside the highway was shaking like waves, and dark figures were flying through the grass.
The next moment, the deformed monster jumped out of the grass and pounced on those who ran out of the car.
Even if they don't leave the car, the zombies will break the glass, climb in through the window, and then the car will shake violently.
I couldn't see clearly what was going on inside the car, but I could hear the desperate screams coming from inside the car.
It is conceivable that most of the people in the car will not end well.
"Let's go!"
Gu Hao grabbed Kelly and chose to abandon the car and run away without hesitation.
He knew it was dangerous to get out of the car, but would he be safe if he stayed in the car? There was still a chance of survival if he got out of the car and escaped. If he stayed in the car and waited for death, he would surely die!
If you don’t run away, why don’t you stay and fight with the zombies?
In the chaos, Gu Hao shot several zombies that rushed towards them, and then took the opportunity to take Kelly away from the crowd.
He did not choose the high road, but fled to the wild paths.
Now that the zombies have caught up, the first target must be the group with the largest number of people. There are too many people stuck on the highway.
Those who are bitten will gradually join the zombie army, and there will only be more and more zombies on the highway.
When already exposed, the more people there are, the more dangerous it is.
……
The mountain road was rugged, it was raining heavily, and the ground was covered with wet mud, making it easy for your feet to slip.
"This damn weather."
The heavy rain had already wet the father and daughter's bodies. Wearing wet clothes, every step was extremely heavy, but who cares at this time?
In order not to reveal his whereabouts, Gu Hao didn't even dare to turn on the flashlight. He was walking in the dark and heavy rain, and he was taking Kelly with him, so he couldn't go fast at all.
Fortunately, there is no need for their father and daughter to run very fast now, as long as they run a little faster than others.
The vast majority of zombies are attracted by the crowds on the highway, and even if they notice a small number of people running into the mountains, they don't care.
When the people on the highway are eaten clean, it will probably be their turn to be caught.
On the way to escape,
Gu Hao met other people who were fleeing, and everyone just glanced at them from a distance.
Not to mention talking, not even a hello.
In this case, there is no trust between strangers at all.
Kelly slipped and fell to the ground, covered in mud. When she stood up again, she couldn't tell whether it was tears or rain on her face.
"Dad, my feet hurt..."
Kelly is a strong child. She held back her tears and did not cry out, but she could not hide the crying tone in her voice.
Gu Hao looked at Kelly's feet and saw that her ankle was swollen and she was probably sprained.
"It's okay."
Gu Hao rubbed Kelly's head, then hung the backpack on his chest, squatted down and picked up Kelly, and continued moving forward.
It's just that I'm walking slower.
