Chapter 16 The Eyeballs in the Water Tomb
"Come and tell me!"
The fat man rubbed his hands excitedly, no less than the gossip group at the head of the village.
The boatman looked up at the sky and was stunned for a few seconds, as if he was thinking about something.
"It's a strange thing. We have a big pit there, which is quite strange."
"What big hole?"
The fat man hurriedly asked.
When I heard about the big pit, I instantly became interested. Maybe the big pit he mentioned was also a tomb.
"The weather there is very strange. There are droughts and floods. One day, it suddenly rained heavily.
The rain created a big hole in the mountain behind us. At first we thought it was just a pit, so we prepared to fill it up to prevent naughty children from falling in again.
But just when everyone was getting ready to fill in the pit with tools, as soon as they walked to the edge of the pit, our people fainted one after another, and in severe cases, they were sent directly to the county hospital."
The boatman was talking and gesticulating, getting more and more excited.
"Then why don't you use a machine to fill it in?"
In fact, at this time, I suspected that this big pit was a tomb, otherwise it would not be so evil.
The boatman continued:
"I used a machine, but it was useless. As soon as the machine reached the edge of the pit, it shut down instantly and couldn't start no matter how hard I tried."
"Is it possible that the machine is too old?"
the fat man asked.
"No, we later replaced the machine with a new one, but the result was still the same as before. It stalled as soon as we reached the edge of the pit.
It couldn't catch fire, and then we pushed the machine to another place, and guess what, it started to catch fire, what a weird thing!"
The boatman's description, which was full of words and gestures, instantly aroused my interest. I was basically sure that it was a tomb, so I hurriedly asked:
"Then what was done in the end? Did you just leave it alone?"
The boatman swallowed his saliva and continued:
"Later, we thought, since the man couldn't get close, let the dog go under the pit to have a look. This dog is spiritual and can see things that ordinary people can't.
It has the effect of warding off evil spirits, so letting the dog down might scare away those evil spirits."
"dog?"
The fat man looked confused, as if he was asking when will this dog be able to go to the front line? Call the barking team?
"Yes, dog!"
The boatman became more and more excited as he talked, spitting stars flying all over the sky:
"We tied up the dog and put it down along the edge of the pit. As soon as we put it down, the dog barked, as if it was frightened.
We quickly pulled the dog up, and as soon as we pulled it up, the dog was soaked all over."
Listening to the boatman's description, I thought to myself, could this be a water tomb? If what we wanted to rob today happened to be this water tomb, it would be troublesome.
This water tomb is different from ordinary tombs. In ordinary tombs, there are at most corpses of crickets and rice dumplings, and no matter how powerful they are, there are only bloody corpses.
But if this is a water tomb, it is very dangerous. Corpses, water monkeys, ghost rice dumplings, and corpse fireflies are all more poisonous than the last. If you touch any one of them, you may die.
So there is an old saying in our industry:
"I would rather rob ten tombs than wade into the water once!"
As long as it touches the water grave, you will lose your skin even if you don't die!
The boatman probably had a dry mouth as he spoke, so he took a sip of water and continued:
"As soon as we pulled the dog out, the dog suddenly opened its mouth, and with a 'snap' sound, something fell out of the dog's mouth."
"What?" I asked quickly.
"It's not a good thing. It's just a green ball, about the same size as an eyeball, with bumps on it like ghost symbols."
The boatman paused and added:
"As for the material, I heard from the young man in our village that it seems to be made of bronze!"
When I heard it, I felt that the round ball he was talking about seemed to have been seen somewhere before.
Suddenly an idea flashed in his mind, and Fatty seemed to realize something.
Isn’t this talking about the bronze eyeball that Da Jinya gave me?
Thinking of this, I quickly took out the bronze eyeball and held it in front of the boatman:
"Come on, brother, take a look, does the round ball you mentioned look like this?"
The boatman took a bronze eyeball and looked at it carefully, and suddenly shouted:
"Yes, it's exactly the same as this one! Even the bumps on it are the same!"
With that said, the boatman took out another bronze eyeball from the middle of his clothes.
I put the two together, one for the left eye and one for the right eye.
Da Jinya heard the movement and came over instantly:
"Ouch! I didn't expect these things to be a pair. When your father gave it to me, he didn't tell me that there was another one!"
I looked carefully and noticed that the eyes seemed to be looking in a certain direction. The more I looked at them, the weirder they became, as if the two eyes had just popped out of their sockets.
But then I felt something was wrong, thinking that this one was in a desert where birds didn't poop, while the other one was thousands of miles away in the Antarctic.
These two eyes are so far apart, so how did they happen to form a pair?
Another point, since there is a connection between these two eyeballs, does that mean that my father also visited this water tomb back then.
So how did he get to Antarctica again?
A bunch of questions kept popping up in my mind.
Just as I was deep in thought, a move by the boatman immediately pulled my thoughts back.
The boatman saw that I was so fascinated by the eyeball that he took the bronze eyeball back.
And put it in the middle of my clothes:
"I found this thing. I can only show it to you, but you can't take it away."
The boatman's operation made the fat man beside him very anxious:
"Hey, why did you, old man, change your attitude so quickly? Just now I wanted to praise you for being a good person. Why are you acting like this now?"
The boatman tightly covered the middle part of his clothes, fearing that we might snatch it away from him.
I smiled and thought to myself, this old man is probably learning to change his face, right? Seeing that I was interested in this thing, he just took it away.
You can't even look at it. It's true that a person cannot be judged by his appearance and the sea water cannot be measured.
I curled my lips, winked at the fat man, and then looked at the big golden tooth.
The fat man immediately understood the meaning, lowered his head and coughed lightly, then walked towards the big golden tooth in small steps.
Da Jinya was not stupid. When he saw this formation, he quickly retreated:
"Fat Master, stop taking it. If you take it any longer, there won't even be any bitter tea left. When it's over, can I treat you to hot pot? Let me go!"
After saying that, he retreated to the edge of the boat. The fat man saw the right opportunity and took off Big Jinya's coat.
Four gold bars were taken out from inside.
I immediately felt happy when I saw it. I thought to myself, this big gold tooth carries all kinds of gold bars on his body all day long, and he is not too heavy. He is really obsessed with money.
When Da Jinya saw that his coat had been snatched away and that nothing was left of his wife, he plopped himself on the boat and started to behave:
"You damn fat man, your mother is so shameless! Just leave me alone, just wait for me, and I will steal the ancestral graves for you!"
Big Gold Tooth was lying on the boat, crying and rolling around, just like a child.
The fat man ignored the big gold tooth and handed the four gold bars to the boatman.
When the boatman saw it, his eyes suddenly shone, but his hand was still protecting the bronze eyes, with no intention of changing them.
"not enough?"
The fat man looked shocked:
"You're too greedy! I've already exposed my old story, what else do you want!"
The boatman suddenly looked at the fat man, and then imitated me and winked at the big gold tooth.
The big gold tooth was so frightened that it trembled all over.
The fat man also glanced at the big golden tooth, and then gave a thumbs up to the boatman with a shocked look on his face:
"You are still cruel!"
