192 A Modern City Under the Desert (5000 words~)(1/2)

Two minutes ago.

Uncle Punishment pulled open the still warm steel plate on the ground, revealing the dark passage behind it.

In this passage that could only accommodate one person going straight up and down, Uncle Punishment unexpectedly felt the long-lost moisture in the desert.

After walking down the stainless steel ladder to a distance of about ten meters, the world in front of Uncle Punishment suddenly opened up.

Through the fluorescent moss that was rare in the desert on the cave wall, he actually saw a surging underground stream here!

Although this is only a five-meter-wide underground stream, the dry riverbed next to it can prove that this was once a magnificent long river.

It's just possible that the water flow has decreased due to changes in the earth's crust or other reasons.

But that's not the point. The point is that there is a small boat on this five-meter-wide stream.

Obviously, it is possible to reach the elder's secret base by swimming down this stream.

Regarding this, Uncle Punishment hesitated a little.

He didn't know anything about what was downstream, so rushing in by boat was not a wise choice.

As a former sniper, he naturally understands the importance of intelligence.

And now that it was close to the time agreed upon with the plane to come back to pick them up, he didn't have any more time to waste here.

So Uncle Punishment finally chose to climb to the top of the cave wall with his bare hands, and looked into the distance with the help of his view from above.

On the horizon at the end of his field of vision, a group of silver buildings came into view. The continuous appearance looked like an underground city!

Uncle Xun hooked one hand on the top of the cave wall, used his legs to stabilize his body, and then took out a military telescope from his arms to look at the city.

I saw that the city in the telescope seemed no different from the city on the ground, full of life.

The only strange thing is that the people here seem to have a fixed behavioral logic.

Everyone was walking in a weird straight line.

Such behavior is more like a robot than a human being.

When Uncle Punishment was about to observe for a while, the alarm clock set on his watch suddenly vibrated.

This was to remind him that it was almost time for the plane to pick him up.

Uncle Punishment could only put a portable GPS signal device he was carrying in a secret place, and then followed the straight up and down passage back to the desert.

When returning from the humid and cool underground space to the dry and hot desert, Uncle Punishment always felt that what he had just seen was too unreal.

A modern city under the desert? ‘People’ behaving strangely? A sect of elders whose traces have never been found?

No matter how you think about it, that modern city down there has big problems.

But he didn't have more time to explore.

Uncle Punishment shook his head and put this problem behind him. Now they need to evacuate from here as soon as possible.

Uncle Punishment glanced at John, who was rummaging through the ashes of the tent, and then raised his wrist to look at the time.

Half an hour has passed since John arrived at the elders' tent.

John is still standing there fine, so the risk of John being infected can be eliminated.

Uncle Punishment couldn't help but breathed a sigh of relief after confirming this.

He had witnessed the tragedy in the tent with his own eyes, so if possible, he would rather die at the hands of the enemy than die cowardly under the attack of the virus.

Just when Uncle Punishment was recalling the tragic situation of the corpses in the tent, the loud noise of the helicopter propeller was heard above his head.

A helicopter spray-painted with the words "stay away from AI" and taking off from a luxury cruise ship in the Atlantic Ocean has arrived here according to the GPS guidance.

The helicopter at high altitude did not choose to land on the soft sand. It just lowered the rope ladder and motioned for the two of them to climb up.

After entering the helicopter cabin and putting on the headphones and sound-isolating earmuffs, the pilot in the "Stay Away from AI" uniform looked back at the two people who were dusty, and then a smiling voice came from the headphones.

"Hey, it must be tiring to conduct inspections in this inhospitable place.

Speaking of which, do we really want to build a resort without AI in a place like this?

No matter how you look at it, there is no development value here.”

Neither Uncle Punishment nor John liked to chat, so no one answered the driver's questions for a while.

The scene instantly turned cold.

Feeling embarrassed, the driver laughed and stopped talking. He muttered to himself that these two quiet guys didn't look like serious inspectors.

Speaking of which, this non-profit foundation has weird connotations.

If he hadn't been given enough money and few tasks, he wouldn't have joined here at all.

When the pilot returned his attention to flying the helicopter, Uncle Pun took out his cell phone and looked at the signal that had not yet been restored, and then started typing to communicate with John.

"What did you find in the ruins?"

John saw the words on the screen of the mobile phone handed over by Uncle Punishment. When he took the mobile phone, he took out a small interface-like object.

"This was found in the elder's bone meal. I don't know what it is now.

I think it should be something like a status token, do you know this thing?"

Uncle Punishment shook his head. He also didn't recognize what this thing that could withstand baking at temperatures of thousands of degrees was.

John then continued typing on Uncle Punishment’s cell phone:

"Did you find anything down there? I always feel like this is too easy."

Uncle Punishment nodded, feeling the same way.

Even if they want to kill a Wilson, they need to make sufficient preparations to disperse his power, so that they have a chance to encircle and kill him.

But the defense around the elder was almost like paper.

Although this is also related to the overbearing complex virus, in terms of numbers, the security guards with senior elders are indeed more stretched.

It's like the elder is not afraid that he will die at all.

Thinking back to the underground city he discovered, Uncle Punishment had a bad feeling in his heart.

"Under that passage is a waterway, and at the end of the waterway is a huge city.

That's most likely the elder base that Du Wei guessed.

Regarding the possibility of replacing the elders mentioned by Du Wei, I feel that the probability of failure is very high.

I left a beacon there so that if there is a chance, we can come back and explore again.

But now, we need to address your dehydration problem."

Seeing the words on the phone screen, John remembered that he had only drank a glass of water since he fell into coma.

This sudden rise in consciousness immediately made him feel extremely thirsty, so that the body's spontaneous protective mechanism was triggered again, causing John to tilt his head and pass out again.

And when he woke up again, he was already lying in the hospital room of the cruise ship owned by the "Away from AI" foundation.

The first thing John saw as his eyes gradually focused was the bright light above his head.

Feeling a little dazzled, John blinked his eyes and pushed himself up with the hand that was not receiving the infusion.

As a killer, it is a basic quality to observe the environment at all times.

Soon he realized that he was on a cruise ship.

It makes sense, but no helicopter has such a long endurance that it can fly directly from the beautiful country to the Sahara Desert.

This helicopter could only have taken off from a cruise ship in the Atlantic Ocean.

But where did Du Wei get so much money? A cruise ship that can take off and land helicopters is worth a lot of money.

John shook his somewhat groggy head, pulled out the needle on the back of his hand, neatly dressed the equipment on the side, opened the door and came to the front of the cruise ship.

Here, Uncle Fu, who was dressed casually, just opened his laptop and saw John waking up. He waved to John and asked him to join the video conference.

On the other side, in the secret base.

When Uncle Punishment and John had just left the desert area with signal shielding.

Du Wei had already seen the burned-out elders' tent through satellite remote sensing images.

What can be confirmed is that John and Uncle Punishment have completed their tasks.

We just lost contact briefly due to signal issues.

But he did not receive the successful reminder to assassinate the elder Wang Yuan.

Does this mean the elder is not dead?

Du Wei couldn't say he was too surprised by this result.

After all, he has too little intelligence information on the elders, so it is normal for there to be omissions in the plan.

Therefore, in Du Wei's original idea, he had considered the possibility that John killed a false elder.

It's just that things won't get worse anyway, so it's better to give it a try. If everything is fine, the most we will lose is one John.

From Du Wei's point of view, the assassination of the elder was successful.
