Chapter 48 Chasing and Killing

Although Roger was not very many people, he was almost the same as Baldwin's 616 soldiers.

But he was not worried that he could not beat Baldwin.

He believed in the strength of the 500 Norman heavy cavalry under his command.

In addition, it was also because of the extra ring on his finger.

That was the token handed over to him by Lawrence, who had received the trust of Baldwin.

He thought that at that time, he could give Baldwin a "surprise".

Roger thought this "surprise" would appear soon, but he felt that he was all cavalry and should be able to catch up with Baldwin with infantry soon.

However, after walking along the avenue towards Arish for two days, Faisal, who led the way, told Roger:

"Sir, Baldwin made his infantry ride on the camels.

"Look, there are no footprints of people here, they are all from camels and horses.

"And here, this is the axle mark of the carriage. Judging from the depth, they brought a lot of supplies. It seems that they are preparing to go to Egypt in one breath."

Roger looked at the sand in front of him, and he could see the axle mark, but he couldn't understand the depth. As for other bumpy sand pits, he couldn't understand even more.

Faisal pointed to some pits confidently and said, "This is left by the female camel, which carries the goods."

He pointed to other pits and said, "This is left by a male camel, carrying people on it."

Odin said with a questioning look on his face: "You can tell that these are camel footprints, I believe it.

"But if you say you can see that the footprint was left by a male camel or a female camel, I don't believe it.

"As for you to tell whether the camel is carrying goods or people on his back, I don't believe it."

Faisal widened his eyes and said, "Isn't this obvious?"

"You can see any Bedouin person."

Roger didn't care whether the camel was male or female. He thought that if what Faisal said was true, both sides were cavalry and camels with a speed of almost the same, and it would not be that easy for him to catch up with Baldwin.

Just as Roger was thinking, Odin actually picked a few Bedouin people from Faisal and pointed at the pit to ask them.

As a result, the Bedouin words were exactly the same as those of Faisal.

Now everyone believed it, the Bedouin really had this ability.

So Roger ordered a speed up.

But he kept chasing Arish until he couldn't catch up with Baldwin and his party.

Along the way, I saw many Egyptian corpses. The scout captain looked through a few with ghost steps. He came back and reported, "They were all thirsty."

Roger thought that the defeated Egyptian jihadist army, except for the escaped caliph who was guarded by personal guards at the beginning, had no supplies or water in their hands. I wonder how many people could cross the Sinai Desert and run back to Egypt.

After Alish and walking for another day, Roger completely lost his understanding of the way after exceeding the farthest distance he had ever reached in the war.

Fortunately, Faisal and his men knew how to go.

It's going all the way again.

After leaving Arish 11 days, Roger and his gang arrived at a river.

Roger saw that the river was not wide and the amount of water was not large.

But Faisal swore, "This is the Nile."

Roger searched for his memories of his previous life with doubts.

Then he remembered that it seemed that on a forum on the Internet, he saw historians arguing about the time when the Nile Delta was formed.

He couldn't figure out who was true and who was fake, but judging from the pictures they posted, the estuary of the Nile River is completely different from the Yangtze River and the Yellow River in the east.

The Yangtze River and the Yellow River basin are like a big tree, and the branches are numerous tributaries in the upper reaches.

The river water of these tributaries gathers into the main river channel downstream like a tree trunk, and then flows into the sea from an outlet.

The Nile River is almost the opposite.

Its middle and upper reaches are a river channel like a tree trunk. After passing Cairo, the downstream separates like a tree branch, forming many tributaries, and then flowing into the sea.

This formed a triangular oasis with Cairo as its vertex and the Mediterranean coastline as its base.

Roger stopped recalling. He now understood that the river in front of him should be a tributary to the east of the lower Nile River.

Roger ordered a suitable place to camp and rest.

The scouts that dispersed, someone came back to report it soon:

"Sir, I discovered Baldwin and his party's camp."

So Roger cheered up and chased after him with his troops.

The sentry at Baldwin Camp seemed to know Roger, but after hesitating for a moment, he still sounded the horn of the alarm.

Just a moment, Baldwin, who was well-equipped, appeared at the camp gate with his personal guards.

Roger led the team to approach, and the troops of both sides stopped across the ground.

Roger and Baldwin each led their own guards to drive their horses forward.

In the middle of the positions of both sides, they stopped head-to-head.

Roger noticed Baldwin had iron gloves on both hands, but was not holding a weapon.

So he didn't draw his sword.

Both sides looked at each other.

As king, Baldwin did not have to salute Count Roger.

Roger had no intention of saluting the other party at all.

He said in a sarcastic tone: "Baodwin, I heard that you came out to hunt. I think you ran quite far, but there seemed to be no gains."

Baldwin said lightly: "I came here to 'fish', but unfortunately the 'fish' I wanted did not come.

"Roger, why are you here?"

Roger said: "Fishing? Are you referring to those nobles? They won't come.

“In fact, I was chasing you.

"Those nobles asked me to call you back for dinner, it was a boxed lunch."

Baldwin obviously didn't understand what "home box" means, but he didn't ask.

He said: "I won't go back. Even if I only have these people I brought out, I will take them to attack Cairo."

Roger laughed: "You asked them to die."

“Do you know how many people there are in Cairo?

"You are just a few hundred people, filling in the gaps between your teeth..."

"No," Baldwin interrupted Roger's mockery and said firmly, "I believe I can conquer Cairo."

He seemed to know Roger didn't believe it, and explained:

“Roger, this is the best time.

"The Caliph's prestige is ruined, and he can no longer organize people to resist.

"Go with me. As long as we can arrive in Cairo, those who oppose the Caliph in the city will definitely open the city gate and welcome us in."

Roger still shook his head and said, "I'm not interested in Cairo. I'll come here to take you back."

Baldwin raised his head and said, "I am the king, no one can order me."

Roger held the hilt of the sword and said, "I'm not here to ask for your advice."
