Chapter 3 Novice Tasks

A burst of colorful light flashed past his eyes like a kaleidoscope, and Zhao Ming found himself in a luxury hotel.

This is a superior suite in the hotel. There is a large bed, a wardrobe and a bathroom in the inner room. The outer room is a small living room with a TV and a sofa. There are also a few suitcases scattered in one corner.

Zhao Ming heard the hotel's radio in the corridor outside repeating the emergency evacuation notice. It seemed that the virus had broken out.

"System, will I be infected with this virus?" Zhao Ming suddenly thought of his terrible physique and asked worriedly. Although his body is still outside, he doesn't know if the body in the mission will be infected.

If you are infected with the virus, you must ask questions first and don't capsize in the gutter.

"No, during the first mission, the system provides novice protection and is immune to all virus infections." The system replied.

"Oh? That's a good relationship. Even if I am accidentally scratched and bitten by a zombie, I won't turn into a zombie, right?"

"Yes."

Zhao Ming breathed a sigh of relief, and finally no longer had to worry. But he still had to be careful. Although being scratched and bitten by a zombie would not turn him into a zombie, it would definitely be very painful...

Zhao Ming lightly searched the cabinets and tables in the room, but found nothing useful, let alone weapons.

Come to think of it, who goes on vacation and carries a gun with them? If you want to find a gun, you probably have to try your luck in the hotel security room.

Zhao Ming walked to the door, put his eyes over the peephole and looked outside. He found no one and no zombies. He put his ear to the door and listened carefully. It was very quiet outside, and it seemed that the zombies were not here.

Zhao Ming gently opened the door, stepped out, and cautiously leaned forward. Now he was unarmed and had no superpowers. If he was blocked by zombies in the corridor... Zhao Ming didn't dare to think about it anymore.

The corridor was quiet, with many large and small suitcases scattered around. When playing games in the past, Zhao Ming controlled the character without changing his expression or heartbeat, going through the bags one by one, and found some change.

Now that he was immersed in the scene, Zhao Ming felt that his heart was beating very fast and his legs were a little weak. He had better forget about rummaging through his bag and quickly left this narrow space. Otherwise, he would be in trouble if he was blocked by zombies.

The floor Zhao Ming is on is not high. According to the plot, the stairwell is locked, the elevator is broken, and the protagonist will fall after getting through the vent.

Considering that this is a mission space simulated by the system and not a game, Zhao Ming decided to see if the stairs could be used. After all, the stairwell could be used under normal circumstances.

After searching for a while, Zhao Ming quickly discovered that the stairwell was indeed not locked.

There were no zombies in the stairwell, and Zhao Ming arrived at the first floor smoothly. The corridor on the first floor was more messy, with more suitcases of different sizes scattered around. After walking a short distance, he arrived at the hotel lobby.

I don’t know if he was paying attention to other survivors, but the American soldier in the game plot who was hiding from the surveillance camera ignored Zhao Ming.

Zhao Ming finally saw zombies in the lobby. They were basically the same as those seen in movies, but they were quite scary up close.

There are a few zombies scattered in the lobby. There are two between Zhao Ming and the gate. You can go around them. If you are careful, you can avoid disturbing them.

Zhao Ming had no intention of confronting the zombies before collecting weapons.

Zhao Ming tiptoed around the zombies, which looked a bit wretched. Fortunately, no one saw it, which did not damage Zhao Ming's "glorious image."

Seeing the open door right in front of him, Zhao Ming became a little careless. He was only observing the zombies nearby and didn't notice an empty can on the ground at his feet.

With one kick, the empty can flew far away, making a clanging sound.

Zhao Ming felt a twitch in his heart... it was broken.

Sure enough, all the zombies in the lobby turned their heads, and a deep roar of zombies could even be heard from nearby invisible places. Zhao Ming ran away and rushed out of the hotel door in an instant, with several zombies staggering behind him.

There is a beach not far from the hotel. The usually crowded beach is now empty.

The zombies chased out of the hotel have been easily thrown away by Zhao Ming. Now is the time to collect weapons.

If I remember correctly, there are only some low-level zombies on the beach nearby, the kind that move slowly.

Apart from being a bit scary, it poses little threat to Zhao Ming. As long as he is not under siege, even with a weak body like Zhao Ming, he can easily challenge him with the help of weapons.

Zhao Ming vigilantly searched for zombies everywhere while listening carefully to the surrounding movements. This area was where Zhao Ming planned to spawn monsters.

It didn't take long for Zhao Ming to collect a wooden paddle and a water pipe that was either iron or steel.

Zhao Ming came to a small dock. There were several wooden huts here, and there were a few zombies wandering in the middle. They were still a little far apart from each other.

Great, here it is, Zhao Ming is ready to start the task.

Zhao Ming quickly selected a lone zombie as his first target. He put down the wooden paddle, held the water pipe tightly with both hands, sneaked up on the zombie from behind, aimed at the back of the head, and smashed it down hard.

There was a muffled sound, and the zombie fell to the ground.

Zhao Ming didn't have time to think about why the imagined headshot didn't appear. Before the zombie next to him came over, he hit the zombie who fell on the ground a few more times.

Unlike the zombies in ordinary movies, the zombies in "Dead Island" can be killed without a headshot. As long as the cumulative damage reaches a certain level, of course, a headshot is still the fastest method.

Mission progress:1/100

An interface with green characters on a black background suddenly popped up, and Zhao Ming, who was highly nervous, was startled.

Zhao Ming ran a few steps away, threw down the water pipe, rubbed his hands that were a little painful from the shock, picked up the wooden paddle, panted to regain his strength, and waited for the zombies to come over.

The zombie approached, Zhao Ming used the wooden paddle as a spear, aimed at the zombie's chest and stabbed it hard, causing the zombie to stagger back.

Zhao Ming took a step forward and kicked the zombie in the stomach.

This last kick successfully knocked the zombie to the ground.

Taking advantage of your illness to kill you, Zhao Ming swung his wooden paddle and hit the fallen zombie several times harder.

Mission progress: 2/100

After a while, several zombies wandering around were attacked by Zhao Ming one after another, and the mission progress also became 5/100.

Although he only eliminated 5 zombies, Zhao Ming's physical exertion was really huge. He didn't feel tired when playing games. Now that he does it himself, he realizes that destroying zombies is also a physical job.

If only there were guns... Zhao Ming couldn't help but miss the various firearms he had played with in the virtual space.

There were no more zombies in sight, so Zhao Ming turned his attention to the wooden house next to him.

There may be zombies in the house, so don't rush in. Even if you go in, you must be careful not to be surrounded by zombies that suddenly appear in the small room. Otherwise, with Zhao Ming's current strength, he will only be eaten to death.

Zhao Ming looked around, confirmed again and again that there were no zombies, and tiptoed to the door of a wooden house.

The door was open, and there were some items scattered inside, which seemed to be of no use to him. There was no blood on the ground. Zhao Ming listened carefully, and there was no low and meaningless roar like that of zombies.

Zhao Ming bent down to pick up a cup and threw it forward on the floor in the room. The cup hit the floor and made a dull sound. The sound was not loud, but it was enough to alarm the zombies nearby if there were any.

Soon the cup stopped rolling, and a few seconds passed without anything happening.

Zhao Ming breathed a sigh of relief and began to search for useful things in the house.

Useful items include food and drink, weapons, valuable jewelry and high-denomination banknotes.

If you meet other survivors, you can use banknotes to buy some things, and jewelry can be sold for money, at least that's the setting in the game.

In the first room, Zhao Ming only found some snacks and a bottle of mineral water. He picked up a backpack on the ground and put the snacks and water in it. Carrying it on his back did not affect his movement at all.

In the second room, Zhao Ming found nothing useful and was a little disappointed.

When searching the third room, Zhao Ming found a padlocked drawer on the table, and a tool that looked like a manual reloading tool on the workbench next to it.

This is a bit interesting, maybe there may be weapons in the locked drawer, at least there should be some bullets or something.

Bang bang bang...

Zhao Ming took something and smashed it several times but failed to break it open. It turns out that the several times he smashed the lock open in the movie were all a lie.

Afraid of attracting zombies if he smashed it again, Zhao Ming ran to the door and observed for a while. He didn't see the zombies coming, so he went to smash it again.

After struggling for a long time, Zhao Ming finally broke the lock.

The contents of the drawer did not disappoint Zhao Ming. A Smith & Wesson military and police revolver (m10) and two boxes of ammunition (50 rounds per box) appeared in front of him.

Zhao Ming was extremely happy, because in the original plot, you couldn't find a gun near the beach, and in the entire first act, you had to complete a very long mission to get a pistol, which only had a few bullets.

With a gun in his hand and no panic in his heart, Zhao Ming continued to walk forward, hunting zombies near the beach.

When the number of zombies was small, Zhao Ming took a running start, kicked them down with a flying kick, or knocked them over with wood pulp, and then stepped forward and shot their heads at close range with a pistol to save ammunition.

If there are a large number of zombies, Zhao Ming will quietly step forward and get as close as possible to the zombies, first kill a few with headshots with his pistol, and then use melee weapons to kill the remaining zombies.

Because the virus broke out at night, there were not many people near the beach, and the terrain was open and easy to escape, so there were not many zombies. Zhao Ming quickly eliminated them all, and the mission progress was 28/100.
