Chapter 8 Fading away

Yarman couldn't wait to take the letter from Brian and read the above content:

dad:

I don't know if you can see this letter. Now there is a mess outside, with constant sound of gunfire and explosions. All the news is reporting that infected patients are rioting in the city. All of this makes me feel very uneasy.

But thankfully, I did not live in the city, so I decided to take Angelina to Dallas to find his father. If you see this letter, please come to Dallas to find me as soon as possible. Looking forward to meeting you again.

Your daughter, Juen.

Looking at the content above and learning where his daughter was going, Yarman breathed a sigh of relief, and he felt much more relaxed. He put the letter into his backpack and said to the two children in front of him: "Now Austin has fallen. When I came, the infected people on the bridge were moving towards this side. It will soon be no longer safe. I plan to go to Dallas. Do you want to be together?"

Brian fell into silence for a moment when he looked at Sarah who was also silent on the bed. He hesitated for a while, and shook his head and said, "I'm sorry, Sarah's father and uncle have not found it yet. We need to find them!"

"well!"

As for this answer, obviously Yarman expected, he just sighed softly, and didn't say anything more. He took out a pen from his arms, wrote an address on a piece of paper next to it, and stuffed it into Brian's hand.

"This is where I'm going, if...I mean if, you didn't find them. You can come here to find me."

After saying that, Yarman didn't stop here either. He lifted the hunting rifle beside him, rubbed Sarah's little head again, said goodbye, and then turned around and went downstairs to leave here.

Dingdengdeng...

Listening to the footsteps moving downstairs, Brian stared blankly at the note in his hand and said in a low voice:

"Thanks."

After Yarman left, Brian also had his own arrangements for today's plan. Sarah's legs are still in the state of recuperation and cannot exercise vigorously, which destined that he could not leave this area too far away.

Taking out two cans from the backpack and having breakfast, Brian thought for a while and thought of a way. Since he couldn't go out to find someone, he could ask Joel and the others to come to find him!

Near the house was a dense forest. He picked up a lot of dry firewood and piled it together, lighting them all with a lighter.

The fire burned dry firewood, and the thick darkness floated into the air. From a distance, it looked particularly eye-catching.

Looking at his masterpiece, Brian nodded with satisfaction. After doing all this, he was not idle and began to search for all the available supplies in the house.

Putting all the available supplies on the table in the living room, he carried Sarah down from the upper floor, gave her paper and pen, and asked her to count the items and quantity.

Then Brian walked to the utility room outside, and when he found the kerosene lamp last night, he saw the tool box and stacked wooden boards inside.

He remembered that Yarman said that the infected group of the bridge was moving in this direction, and he didn't know when Joel and Tommy would come, so it would be better to seal the windows and strengthen the house.

......

On the other side, the high-speed kilometer bridge.

The battle last night was extremely tragic. Hundreds of dead bodies were piled up on the bridge deck, and the blood stained the entire bridge red, emitting a strong smell of blood.

The isolation checkpoint was already empty. Obviously, the military soldiers could not resist the tide of the infected person's attack and chose to evacuate here.

On a high slope not far away, through the telescope, Joel saw hundreds of infected people moving forward along the bridge, and it seemed that they were moving towards the next city.

But he was not in the mood to pay attention to these things at this time. He kept moving his telescope and scanning the area near the bridge, feeling extremely anxious and exhausted.

Last night, after he and Tommy got rid of the infected people, they advanced all the way to the bridge. But just around there, there were violent gunfire and explosions. From a distance, they saw a large number of infected people attacking the checkpoint.

Although he knew it was dangerous, he discussed with Tommy and felt that if Brian saw the situation here, he would definitely not choose to keep approaching, but would find a place nearby to hide.

So, they looked around the bridge to find traces of the two children with the checkpoint as the center.

But the explosion sound from the direction of the bridge attracted the attention of all infected people around them. They were almost discovered by infected people several times, and they were almost hit by bullets swept by soldiers.

Unfortunately, they had to evacuate temporarily. They chose to search for the troops at the checkpoint after they evacuated. Now they have been searching for nearly a night.

"Damn it, where did you go!"

At this moment, Joel heard the sound of walking behind him. He turned his head and found that it was his younger brother Tommy, and he was carrying a coma man on his body.

"Aren't you searching there? Who is this?"

"Hold on."

Tommy first stopped his brother from saying what he wanted to continue, then put the man on his shoulder to the ground, took out a rope from his waist and tied his hands behind him, then a document from his pocket and said to Joel: "When I was searching there, I accidentally noticed him. He was sneaking out of the checkpoint. He was a civilian. He probably didn't have time to evacuate last night. We searched for so long but couldn't find Brian and the others. Maybe they might have been found by these bastards."

Hearing his younger brother say this, Joel also felt that it was very likely that he grabbed the kettle next to him and took a sip, then squirted it on the man's face with a "pop".

The man woke up instantly after being sprayed with water. He suddenly opened his eyes and saw the two strange men standing in front of him. He felt his hands tied up and said in horror: "Who are you, why are you??"

Seeing the man awake, Joel took out his pistol, squatted down and looked straight into the man's eyes, and said, "Last night, did you catch two children, one man and one woman, both 13 years old. The girl was injured in her right leg. You'd better be honest with me, otherwise the bullet in my pistol would make a hole in your body."

Looking at the muzzle aimed at his head, the man's eyes were filled with fear. He didn't hear what the other party said clearly. He trembled all over and begged for mercy, "I...I don't know anything. I'm just a recorder. Please...ah!"

But before he could finish his words, Joel, who was unintentionally listening to him talking nonsense, stood up and stepped on the other party's knees.

Since the soldier shot at them last night, he has been extremely disgusted with these damn guys. If it weren't for these people, he and his daughter would not have been separated, so he naturally showed no mercy to the man.

He squatted down again and looked at the man's face with a red face due to pain. Joel took out a photo of himself and his daughter Sarah with a cold face, put it in front of the man and said, "I asked for the last time, have you ever seen this girl?"

The man was completely honest now. While enduring the pain from his knees, he said in pain: "I... I really haven't seen it. I kept recording data last night, and I really don't know."

But then the man seemed to remember something key, and quickly continued:

"No...but last night before the infected people attacked us, we did rescue dozens of surviving citizens near the bridge. We have escorted them to the quarantine camp in Houston as per regulations, and the people you are looking for should be there."

"Nonsense!" The man's answer hit Joel's sore spot, grabbed his collar, and roared: "If you are really searching for survivors, why were you going to shoot us last night!"

"What...what?" Joel's questioning obviously surprised the man. He said with an incredible look on his face: "Impossible. The task we received was to search and rescue uninfected survivors and escort them to the quarantine camp for centralized management."

Hearing this, Joel and Tommy were both stunned. At first they thought the military's order was to eliminate all survivors and infected people, but now it seems that things are not the same as they imagined.

They looked at each other and suddenly had a terrible guess in their hearts. They seemed to have accidentally broken through some terrible conspiracy.

The man obviously understood the key point. He kept struggling and twisting his body and said to Joel: "You must let me go. This matter must be reported immediately, otherwise more innocent people will die!"

"Shut up." Joel felt his mind be in a mess. He stood up and pulled Tommy aside, asking him what he thought.

"What should we do with him now?"

"Let it go!" And Tommy was extremely straightforward when he returned. He could tell that what the man said should be true.

"Joel, this matter has nothing to do with me. My first goal now is to find Sarah. As for this matter, let this person have a headache."

"good."

Joel lowered his head and pondered for a while, nodded in agreement. He turned around and walked to throw a dagger in front of the man, and said, "I won't kill you, you can find a way to leave yourself."

After saying that, he turned around and moved to Tommy towards the direction of the town, which is more than 200 kilometers away from Houston, and they have to find a car.

But just ten minutes after they turned around and left, a stream of black smoke slowly floated out of the woods not far from where they were just now.
