Chapter 17 Service Area
On the highway.
Brian was driving a car full of bullet holes and was driving quickly on the road. The rearview mirrors on both sides of the left and right were completely broken in the shooting just now. He could only stare at the center rearview mirror in the car and observe the situation behind the car.
Until he had already driven a few hundred meters away, he did not see an army truck chasing him. Although he was very confused, his nervous mood gradually relaxed. He turned his head and said to Sarah who was hiding in his seat, "Get up, they didn't catch up."
Sarah trembled slightly, she stood up and looked around. Seeing that they were already on the highway, she patted her chest and breathed a sigh of relief. What happened just now was like the police and gangster movie she had watched, which really made her unable to bear it.
She looked at Brian who was driving anger. She was about to scold him, but found that his face and arms were covered with blood, and she immediately exclaimed in surprise.
"You're injured? Have you been shot?"
"What?" Brian felt an abnormality on his body when he heard Sarah's scream. After his nervous state dissipated, he felt a little weak all over his body. The severe pain on his body came. He felt very tired and his condition seemed extremely bad.
The splashed glass debris also left a lot of wounds on his body, especially a burning pain from his right face, which made him realize that a bullet had just rubbed his cheek.
This discovery made him feel lingeringly scared. He realized that he had made an extremely reckless decision because his brain was hot. If he hadn't been lucky, he would have been shot by a bullet that had just happened.
"It's okay, I wasn't shot, we drove forward first and waited to be safe to deal with the wound."
Looking at the blood that kept flowing out of the wound, Sarah could only temporarily suppress the anger in her heart, took out a few packs of tissues from her backpack, and wiped the wound on the other party's body.
Although the broken windshield blocked Brian's view, fortunately there were no other vehicles on the highway. He drove the car for half an hour before he stopped in the emergency lane next to him under Sarah's constant urging.
"You are really crazy, you dare to do such a dangerous thing."
Carefully took out the remaining glass debris from Brian's wound. Sarah's expressionless face dipped in alcohol with a cotton swab to clean the wounds on his face and hands. When she looked at the other person's face, which was a little distorted due to the pain, she scolded softly.
Brian smiled bitterly, knowing that he was a little impulsive today. He looked at Sarah and whispered: "I was impulsive today. I was about to leave here. I was a little anxious, sorry."
After hearing this, Sarah knew that the other party had already known that he was wrong, so she didn't say anything. She just picked up the bandage and wrapped it around his arm for a few simple circles, which was considered as bandaging the wound.
She didn't know what kind of feelings she had for Brian, and didn't know when she began to rely more and more on Brian and didn't want to see him suffer any harm, so when she saw that he almost killed herself due to impulse today, she felt very angry.
Seeing that his wound had been treated, Brian moved his muscles and bones, looked at the car that was already full of holes, and said to Sarah who was packing up tools next to him: "It seems we are going to change a car."
"Hmm? What is this?"
When he walked to the car, Brian suddenly found a plywood stuck under the wiper, and there were a few pieces of paper on it. Because the windshield was broken, he didn't notice this thing while driving.
After removing the plywood, he opened it and found that it turned out to be an army record sheet with the words:
6:10
Start from the main camp site in the south and head to the northern blockade point.
7:03
Arrived at the northern blockade point and began to deploy blockade measures.
.........
There is no other content except these two lines of record. Obviously, this battle table has just started recording. After seeing the words "Execution of Mission" at the bottom of the battle table, Brian's face changed slightly, knowing that his premonition was correct, because it was written there - block all entrances and exits and clear the infected area without any difference!
Although it seems a bit horrible, Brian had already guessed in his heart that this would be the result.
He started to go on the road again, and told Sarah about his discovery and asked her to read the contents of the record sheet. Both of them were very heavy in their hearts, thinking about their own affairs, and the car suddenly fell into silence.
There is basically no charge for expressways in the United States, so if vehicles want to refuel, eat or rest, they need to get off the expressway before they can proceed.
When the car drove for another half an hour, Brian saw the sign of the service area exit on the sign in front of him. Without any hesitation, he turned the steering wheel right and drove off the highway from the exit.
There is a service area not far from the exit of the expressway, which is basically no different from what he had seen in his previous life. Both are standard gas stations, restaurants and convenience stores. A motel opposite the service area is open. Looking towards the end of the road, they can even vaguely see the outline of the nearest town.
But at this moment, whether it is the service area or the motel, it is in a mess, and it is obviously raging by infected people.
"Go and go and take a look."
After parking the car on the side of the road, Brian opened the door of the cab and brought all the pistols and iron rods. He had handed the dagger to Sarah for use. After all, she was not strong enough, so it would be better to use sharp weapons. The assault rifle had already exhausted the bullets in the last cleaning of the infected person and became a decoration.
Instead of choosing a service area that seemed to have a lot of supplies, the two of them headed towards the motel across the road.
This chapter is not finished yet, please click on the next page to continue reading the exciting content below! Their top priority now is to quickly find a car that can continue driving. There is not a single car in the parking lot of the service area. Their demand for food is not very urgent now, so the motel with several cars parked across the road has of course become their primary choice.
But the two did not notice that in the service area behind them, two figures were hiding in the convenience store, peeping at the darkness of their every move.
"I didn't expect there was a RV here."
Scanning the cars in the parking lot, Brian found a white giant parked in the innermost corner, and his eyes suddenly lit up.
This is a good thing. They have a journey to go next, with their own beds and bathrooms. If they have this guy, the next journey should be much easier.
But when he thought about it, Brian shook his head and gave up this idea. This RV was too eye-catching and could easily cause unnecessary trouble. Moreover, due to the size, the speed of driving is very limited. So after thinking about it, he still gave up this choice.
“The driving doors are all locked.”
Next to him, seeing that there were no infected people in the parking lot, Sarah boldly walked inside, and moved back and forth the only few cars left, pulling the cab door, but found that the doors were all locked.
"There is an indirect reception room there, there should be a key inside. Go in and look for it."
Seeing this, Brian looked around, pointed to a small house near the road, and walked over with Sarah.
The two walked slowly to the glass door of the reception room. Because the window was blocked by blinds, they could only listen to the movement inside through the glass door. After listening for a while, they did not hear the unique strange sound of the infected person. Then they slowly pushed the door open and watched inside.
Unlike the messy scenes outside, the reception room seemed particularly tidy, as if someone was cleaning here often. Sarah said in a little puzzled manner: "Why is it so clean?"
"I don't know, maybe it's because the door is closed."
But when Brian saw the situation inside, he immediately thought of something, and gave Sarah a wink, answered her words, raised his pistol and slowly approached the closed room inside.
After Sarah noticed the abnormality of the other party, she immediately reacted, raised her pistol, and cooperated and said, "Don't worry about this, let's find the car keys as soon as possible."
While speaking, Brian had already arrived outside the door of the room. When Sarah finished speaking,
He pushed the door open and rushed into the room.
But what surprised him was that except for the messy sheets on the bed and a floor under the bed, the room was empty.
"How is it, is there anyone inside?"
Sarah, who was standing outside, asked with concern when she saw Brian coming in for a long time without any movement.
"It's okay, there's no one inside."
Squat down and put his hand into the bedding. Brian could still feel the remaining warmth inside. He stood up and said, "Someone has lived here, but it seems that he has left."
"Stop it, let's find the car keys."
Seeing that there was no threat inside, Sarah crawled into the reception counter and started rummaging through the cabinets. But after searching for a long time, she couldn't find anything, so she ran to the room and searched, and finally found the car key in a small iron box inside the bedside table.
